I've just moved my desktop computer back to my parents house. there is an Internet connection in the house already. if I plug the cable into my laptop it works instantly. when I plug into the desktop there is nothing the green light turns on at the back of the tower but otherwise the computer doesn't register anything at all.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've just been working with an SMCWUSBS-N2 network card.[URL]as you can see in the URL, it states that the card can connect with the data rate up to 300 Mbps provided that the access point it is connected to can communicate in 300 Mbps as well.my access point is a linksys WAG160N ADSL modem.but I haven't been able to connect to the access point with more than 150Mbps speed.I almost tried anything that comes into mind at the first place.the wireless bandwidth is 40 MHZ,I downloaded the latest drivers for the card,i tried both in xp and 7,i upgraded the modem firmware to the latest version.i also tried the card with another 300 Mbps access point.but the results are the same.the only speed i'm able to got at maximum is 150Mbps.

The machine only stays off off for 5-10 seconds at a time. I think this is because instead of waking from only a magic packet, it is waking from ANY packet.
Computer keeps saying that the I need to plug in a ethernet cable but I already did. This is happening on my Windows 7 Ultimate partition. I also have have a Mac OSX partition and the internet is working fine on that partition.Here is what I get for ipconfig/all command:[CODE]

I have used various torrent clients and problem remains.I have the latest drivers Realtek 8168 v 7065 . Some suggested to turn Checksumms off from the property menu , but that would increase my CPU load. Some other suggested to turn off Task Offload , but I cant find anything similar in Properties.

I just brought this belkin wireless usb adapter N150 and it is giving me slow download speed. I checked on Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test and it gives me 0.20 mbps it is not going to the max my max is 3.00 mbps it is not the wireless usb adapter because i checked on another computer and it went to the max 3.00 mbps and i putted it in the same location as my computer so than i realised that it was my computer that is giving slow download speed and it can't find much connections.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWe currently have about 50 Cisco 1252 wireless access points running from a 4404 Wireless LAN controller. We need to order more APs, but of course the 1252s have been discontinued.Was assured by Cisco that the 1262 would work just fine with our WLC. I'm messing around with a trial 1262 and am running into problems.We hard-code the IP address, hostname, default gateway, and controller IP address in each of our access points. I did that with the new 1262 the same way I did with the 1252s:lwapp ap ip address lwapp ap ip default-gateway etc., etc.That didn't work. Then I tried doing the same thing using (not sure if this is the correct terminology...) the capwap commands.
The AP still doesn't show up on the WLC's GUI, though I can ping the AP from the WLC and I can ping the WLC from the AP.I also can't use a web browser to get into the access point's configuration tool. Do I understand correctly that the lightweight APs don't have the GUI?
I have a home network consisting of a Linux machine running dhcpd server, connected to the X3000 router wireless, connected -in turn- to the RE1000 repeater, and -finally- a DHCP client machine.Since I run my own DHCP server, I have configured X3000 to be a Relay.I am getting very strange behaviour. Specifically, the DHCP client sents a DISCOVER packet, which arrives to the server (through the relay/router), the server then replies with an OFFER packet to the Relay, and then - bizarelly! - the relay/router forwards the OFFER reply NOT to the client, but back to the server!Needless to say, when this happens the client does not register with the network.I have captured the packets with wireshark running on the server machine, and you may find them here:url...Does not Linksys have professional online technical support?

On my desktop I clicked on the Network icon and it said "3WIRE***" is in range but requires a Network Key (also called a WEP Key or WPA Key)? Could this be the problem? I've never had to enter a password to access my internet before. Do you know how I can find (or reset) my password? It's a D-Link router.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have network: 20 PC's conected to a switch (ordinary switch), from switch to a router (for DHCP and internet conection), Router is connected to a cable modem.
Lately an issue arised. One PC started having problem witch connection (PC is windows 7, up to date). PC instead of 192 addres is getting 169 (i need to highlight it is a problem with only one PC). That means the PC is connected to the Router but it is not getting proper IP addres. After changig the addres to static the connection ws fine for few days and then in networc connection icon (botom right) it came up with 'unidentified network' message. I changed the patchleeds, even changed the connection with known working line (from outlet to patchpanel) and the connection was coming and going. Then I changed network card with the same resoult. I noticed strange thing: While the IP is 169 or when 'unid net' when I unplug the cable from outlet then plug back and do so couple times in one moment the connection is back and stable but only for some period of time. Cables had been re terminated with new jacks and at the patch panel. Drivers for network card are up to date.
Why is the connection coming and going?
I'm currently volunteering at a children's group near me. They've just moved offices and are wanting a computer network in place. I have quite a bit of experience with hardware and software troubleshooting, but anything past the server is beyond me.They have a telecommunications box, as many places do, and the box has a set of patch boxes that are, according to the telecommunications people, plugged in and good to go. Each office has tunnelling on the wall with network sockets, again the norm.

View 6 Replies View RelatedA few weeks ago, i noticed that my desktop was unable to access the internet, even though it shows that it is connected. i eventually decided taht it must have been a hardware issue, so i bought a new motherboard. after installing the motherboard, an a fresh installation on Windows, i saw after the drivers were installed that the same thing was happening. I pinged sites, and i got no losses on data. i also did a tracer, and it showed me that it is in fact connecting.
I noticed that when I connect the pc to the network(it is always via cable) it recognizes the network as "network", whereas if i use the same connection for my laptop, it brings up the network as "NETGEAR", which is, in fact, my network's name.
I just need to add new connectors and I'm good to go. I can open files, play videos, run programs, etc. Windows installed without a problem.However, I can't connect to the Internet. At all. I can't even register my version of Windows because I can't contact Microsoft for verification, because the connection won't get through. No Internet devices can be detected.That was with a long cable wired directly to our router, which is next to our modem.So, today, I bought a D-Link Xtreme N Desktop PCI adapter to connect. Still no connection... I don't think the PC even detects the adapter, because the drivers coming with the adapter can't detect it, and the light on the adapter doesn't turn on.That shouldn't happen. Both the cable and adapter go directly into the motherboard. My operating system is Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit, and my motherboard is an Asus P8Z68-V PRO.My ISP is Cogeco.
