View 2 RepliesI recently changed internet provider and rented a D-Link N 300 Router. On most days everything works well. However on some days the internet connection on my new laptop that has Intel Centrino Wireless-N 130 network adapter get really terrible (usually on Friday and Saturday). At first I thought that the problem was with provider, but now I find out that my old laptop that does not support 802.11n (only 802.11g) has excellent internet connection (at the same time when the new laptop struggles).
How can I troubleshoot what is causing this problem - the laptop network adapter or the router? Is there some setting for network adapter to force using 802.11g?
My laptop is running Windows 7, if that matters.
I just set up my new e1200 wireless router. The wireless connection works great but on my desktop (which is plugged in through the ethernet), has a painfully slow connection. Half the time it times out while loading a website!
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a laptop (let me call it A) with Intel Centrino 1030-N wireless (iwlwifi module), running Arch Linux, and another laptop (I will call it B) with Atheros AR928X wireless (ath9k module), running Ubuntu 11.10. They connect to a wireless network provided by a D-Link DI-524 router (802.11g), which in turn connects to a DSL modem (10Mbps/1Mbps link)
Copying files between those machines, either through scp or mounting a share via NFS or Samba, is very slow (at most 200 KB/s) and sometimes fails (times out), even when both machines are inches away from the router. However, downloading files on either machine works correctly at the expected speeds (~1.2 MB/s).
I ran iperf, as recommended in a comment, and it gave me this: [code] The bandwidth is very low, as can be seen from those results.
I have a shared laptop that allow some to connect to the wireless network while it will not let one person to.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm running Windows Vista on a Dell Laptop. Normally I just use wireless wherever I am but now I need to hard wire to the computer. It was initially working for a few minutes but then the connection dropped. Now whenever I plug the cable in, it shows it as being connected but comes up as local only so I can't browse or do anything.
I have tried:
-Restarting the machine
-Ensuring that windows was picking up the IP addresses automatically
-Checking the connection on another computer, works fine.
-Disabling the IpV6
-Disabling/Enabling the LAN connection in the Manage network connections setup
-Uninstalling, re installing the driver for the ethernet adapter
-System Restore
I've also tried in safe mode with networking and have disabled any firewalls that were running.Again, most of the time I never use the hard wired connection, but whenever I have, it hasn't had any problems until now.It always comes up as being connected, but says local only.
Here's the results from the Ipconfig:

View 5 Replies View RelatedI can only connect to the development server when I am logged into the VPN (Cisco VPN)I do most of my work on my desktop, which is running XP sp3. While logged into the vpn there, I can reach the SVN and FTP servers fine, but I cannot connect to the development website to view anything.I also have a laptop that is running windows 7. When I connect to VPN on that, I can connect to the website just fine. It is all from within my house so using the same router / cable modem / internet service. Both have installed the latest Cisco VPN softare, and use the same profile to connect. The differences are, windows 7 vs Windows XP. Windows 7 is running Microsoft Security Essentials and XP is running Comodo.
However, even when I turn off Comodo on XP I still can't connect to the website. (Just FYI, I also have XP as dual boot on the laptop and tried connecting from it but no go). I am getting absolutely no assistance from the company I am working on, so really can't ask them anything, I guess it is something I have to figure out myself. But it is frustrating me. I prefer to work on my desktop and it is set up in with all my development tools etc in a nice environment, where the laptop is noisy and slow and not a preferred work place.
Using Windows 7 Pro. I get a yellow triangle with ! on the LAN icon. The message is : 'no internet access' but the internet works. On Network and sharing center, using work network, everything is ok.It doesn't happen all the time.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to connect my desktop to my laptop over the WLAN. Both computers are connected to the router, as well as I've got no problems sharing files to my PS3 via media servers. But connecting the two computers is impossible. I've tried everything I can think of. I've tried connecting the two both using Homegroup services, and in the old fashion way, without the Homegroup service, using only IPv4.It seems like firewall settings and sharing in general works ok, but making it work over WLAN is very troublesome.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm visiting my mom for the holidays and so of course I got roped into her tech problems. She has an emachine with windows 7 that won't browse the internet even though it appears to be connected. The internet works fine in safe mode. She didn't have any antivirus software (in fact, she doesn't have that many programs at all) so I downloaded malware bytes and the scan came back clean. She has Hughesnet (the satellite people) as her ISP and she says that the problem started after they upgraded her modem.I'm a bit stumped as to what the problem could be, since all the google searches I did on the topic seemed to be some kind of problem with antivirus software (having two conflicting, or some kind of wonky settings) or a virus, neither of which seems to be the case.

View 2 Replies View Relatedmy machine is set up to dual boot Windows XP Professional Edition and Windows 7 Home edition. I had Windows XP installed on this machine first because it is 10 years old and I wasn't sure how well it would work with Windows 7. I decided to test out Windows 7 a few months after using Windows XP on here and noticed the wireless network was started right when Windows 7 loaded, where as in Windows XP it can take anywhere from 1-3 minutes for the wireless network to load. In this 1-3 minute time frame on Windows XP any browser or attempted connection to the internet 'hangs' and does not display a time out, it just continues to try and connect until the wireless icon finally shows in the taskbar
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just recently purchased a dell latitude E6400 laptop and I did a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit on it, not an upgrade. I also installed service pack 1 right after the OS install. My problem is I cannot find a single driver that allows my WiFi card/connection to show up in Windows. I have been browsing the internet like a fiend and cannot find a single driver or solution anywhere for this. Every install or driver I try either shows an error saying "incompatable" or just does not fix the issue. All I want is my WiFi card to work, and dell did not have any drivers that worked off of its support site even when I put in my service tag number. compatable driver for the WiFi card for windows 7 64bit? Or steer me in the right direction to get the WiFi working on my laptop?
View 4 Replies View RelatedIt's a Windows 7 Pro 64bit machine with a (newly installed) Asus P8H67 pro motherboard and an Edimax ew-7612pln pci-e card, the router is a thompson 585v8 router with the latest firmware on (upgraded as part of troubleshooting). I upgraded the wireless card drivers one time whilst it was disconnected, it appeared to work for a few hours but then dropped again it also went through a phase of connecting to the router as an 'unidentified network' with no internet access although I don't believe it was attaining an IP address. When it was connected the internet was pretty slow and anything like a file down load would knock it off completely. There were no errors at the time of disconnection in the event log (bar a DNS error or two saying it could not locate the website I was trying to get to before it failed), however the only information type events I noted were a few services stopping and starting and an odd one regarding the host not being able to find the 'master browser' which was identified as another laptop on the wireless network.
The machines are not in the same work group or in a domain, all other laptops and devices on the network work fine and are very stable - as was this one up until a couple of weeks ago. I've uninstalled a couple of pieces of software that were recently installed ; VMware player (which added virtual NICs upon installation and funnily enough made the wireless reconnect after a few hours of downtime upon installation...but the effect was shortlived) and some asus mobo utilities.
this computer was working on this router no problem. computer crashed and noiw computer is fine i connected it to my cable from ny desk top comutyer and works fine. It just cannot hook up to the wireless connection?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI decided to upgrade my OS from Win 7 Pro 32 bit to Ultimate 64 bit because i needed more RAM ( I have 4 GB RAM but only 3.5 of it was usable. I want all of the 4 GB because I am getting BF3 soon) and for my new graphics card (GTX 550ti) so i formatted my Hard Drive after backing everything up on an external Hard Drive. Everything went smoothly until I had to browse the internet. Internet works, but it is very slow. It was working as normal when I had the 32 bit OS. Download Speeds are 8 kbps. I tried using the netsh int tcp set global autotuning=disabled in command prompt but no result. I tried removing and Re-inserting my Wi-fi adapter, no result. I don't want to be forced to downgrade to a 32 bit OS again . I am at a loss here and really want my fast internet back. [code] My Internet Connection is 4MB. My router is a Linksys Wireless-N Router and the Modem is provided by my ISP. The signal strength from the position of my PC is decent but internet is VERY SLOW!

View 4 Replies View RelatedFirst this is my setup, i have a 100x100 mb fiber pipe at a location i am working at. i am comming out of a cisco fiber router to ethernet. i am coming straight from the fiber switch to the computer at a 1gb connection. So my problem is when i try to upload to my ftp server via windows explorer i can never get about 1.5mb, but if i upload via command prompt it goes at about 60mb upload, so the pipe is good. So you say why dont you just use the command prompt, well i have specialized gear here that run xp emmbedded and it does this via the windows explorer. I have tried 4 other computers and they all do the same thing. I tried a UDP video stream and worked at over 10mb stream. but all the ftp uploads cap out at 1.5mb.
