Cisco :: 3750 / Unable To SSH To Switches
Oct 12, 2012
We are running CISCOWorks 4.0 (LMS).I can connect to and update the majority of my 3750's but I have about 20 that result in failure when attempting to update the image on those devices. The return error is "SWIM50001: Cannot connect to the device "IPAddress" using SSH and TELNET." When running "sho ssh" you see connection for the current ssh tectia login but nothing pointing to the ciscoworks device. When I run "sho ssh" from a different device I see both connections, 1 from my desktop ssh connection and the other showing username of ciscoworks.I ran the Discovery tool, again, but no joy.I was looking for a manual way to add that connection but again nothing. How to make the ssh connection between ciscoworks and the edge device? As I said I can ssh from my desktop and manage the box that way but ciscoworks simply won't allow it.

If I have two stackable switches one switch uplinks to one 6509 core switch and the other connection uplinks to another 6509 core switch, and also the other stackable switch does not connect to the core switches. Because I am using hsrp and also we are not using vss then one uplink to the core is not in used only ones is so then how does creating an etherchannel between does two uplinks to both core switches benefit me in anyway such as more bandwith and using both uplinks at the same time or I'm I wrong?

If I have two stackable switches were only one stackable switch has two uplinks one uplink goes to one core 6509 switch and the other uplink goes to the other 6509 core switch can a Layer 3 etherchannel be used if each uplink go to a different core switch, by the way hsrp is running between both switches and also can you give an example how data will be routed from the stackable switch through the ethernetchannel to one of the core switch accross the WAN to another core switch?

I'm the administrator of a system composed of seven SGE2010P switches in stack configuration.I developed a script to update the ACL at regular time intervals.
ACLs work well unless one or more switches in the stack is turned off. In this case it would seem that once, which switches off will restart, they do not synchronize ACLs assigned to interfaces.
Currently the only solution I've found to restore functionality, it is cold restart of the entire stack.I was wondering if there is a command to propagate the acl switches that I can recall in the event of a restart of any of these.

We have PC's that connect through the Siemens IP phones and back to the cisco 3750 which is connected to our core 6500 via L3. The phones use a voice VLAN and the PC's use another VLAN. The whole setup seems to work ok but I was just wondering if the QOS was configured correctly. Our current config on our 3750 switches are mls qos trust dscp on the port that connects to the phone and PC and mls qos trust dscp on the L3 links. The phones are configured for "QOS L2/L3"From the reading I've done so far it seems that any ports connected to a L2 device should be set to cos and not dscp?

We have 2x Cisco 3750 WS-C3750-48PS-S and 1x WS-C3750-48PS-E in stack mode. They all work well. Currently they have c3750- ipservicesk9-mz.122- 25.SEE2.bin on them which is deffered by Cisco. What would be a good alternate, stable version for my switches? Switches have 16MB flash and 128mb Ram.

I have a 3750 stack of 4 switches that was installed about 2 years ago. Recently I was doing some work on the switch and realized that I am unable to save the config. I amobviously concerned that if the power fails or the switch reboots I will be reconfiguring it and that is not something I am interested in doing!

I have the following set up, at one of our sites:What I would like to do is take non 10.x.x.x web traffic, and pipe it through the ISP2 link, and keep all other 10.x.x.x traffic over the main ISP1 link. I would like to set this up on the L3 3750's that we have. Here is my configuration for the 3750's (IP's have been changed for security):
track 222 ip sla 222 reachability
track 223 ip sla 223 reachability
ip access-list extended INTERNETTRAFFIC
permit tcp 10.1.1.0 0.0.1.255 any eq www - Internet LAN subnet
permit tcp any 10.1.1.0 0.0.1.255 eq www
permit tcp any eq www 10.1.1.0 0.0.1.255
[code]....
I'm applying the policy route-map to the VLAN interface, but do not see any traffic, once I apply the interface. I'm not that experienced, with route-maps?

I have been asked to do a network survey at a client. They are using the Cisco SGE2000 switch, which is new to me (used to working with 3750 switches). They seem to have lost the username/pasword for one the switches. Is there an way to recover from this, without reseting the whol config (not sure they even have a backup) ..

I have a 4 member stack of 3750's. We would like to take advantage of wccp and we understand that we will need to upgrade our switch licensing from IPBase to IPServices. My question is do we need to pay for a license for each member in the stack or does one IPServices license upgrade cover the whole stack?

I have a question in regards to configuration I'm planning to implement. I currently have 2 x 3750 running in a stack. I would like to add 1 x 870 router connected to both switches. It's important for me that 870 is always available (it will only be used as a backdoor for our management network through WAN) but I don't want it to participate in any switching (including switching for management network unless it's going through this backdoor WAN). Do I need to configure spanning tree on all switches or stack is automaticly working as a 1 logical unit?As router is only using 100MB/s connection, how I can prevent this router from switching packets with other switches?

I have a pair of ACE 4710 and I think I have all the failover configured correctly and it all appears to be working. My question is regarding setting QOS on the physical interfaces that are part of my port channel. I have qos trust cos enabled on all the interfaces in my port channel. These interfaces are connected to a 3750 swith. Do I need to configure QOS on the 3750 to allow the COS bit to pass through my 3750 to my peer?

switch A is server farm , switch B and C are core 01 and 02 . and all are 3750 switches.
1. what will be the impact on the network in terms of spanning tree recalculation
2. what duration are we talking about until the spanning tree convergence happens?
3.I plan to shut down the link from CLI to bring down the links

I am running LMS 4.1 and have an issue with Inventory: I have a stack of four 3750 switches, but only two of them are showing up in CiscoView. If I right-click - Topology - Device Report ; I see all four switches. The switches are standard 3750 switches and should be included in the Device Packages for CiscoView
Also if I go Reports - Detailed Device ; I see the same two devices show up under Module Information. However when I go to Reports - Device Attributes ; I see all four devices correctly displayed.
I have tried and deleted and added the stack in CiscoPrime, but with same result.

I would like to deploy this kind of configuration (See attached network plan). My questions are:
1) is possible to enable etherchannel links between different switches, without stacking links?
2) how is the expected bandwith consumption when I enable etherchannel PAgP or LACP protocol?

I have to realize a connection between an 5508 WLC and 3750 switch using one SFP cable. I found on Cisco documentation some reference about two different SFP cables. The first one is CAB-SFP-50CM, but this is used to interconnect two 3560 switches. The second is SFP-H10GB-CU1M. This one has SFP+ transceivers on both ends which I don’t know if are compatible with the standard SFP ports that can be found both on WLC and switch.
My question is if I can use one of these cables in order to connect my devices, or if you know other one piece SFP cables.

A customer is expanding their network into another wing, and they have a good number of existing Small Business switches (specifically the SGE-2010P - [URL] that they're interested in possibly deploying. They have a full-blown Cisco infrastructure and voice deployment (Cat 6500 core switches, 3750 switch stacks, Communications Manager w/ over 1,000 phones, etc.).
The general concern is whether there is ANY known issues or concerns with trying to mix/integrate the Small Business equipment with non-SMB infrastructure. Looking at the datasheet for this switch, it's clearly PoE, supports QoS, although it doesn't specifically indicate it can provide a voice/auxiliary VLAN for a phone detected by CDP - that would be a big deal. So basically, "a switch is a switch", and I'm just posing this question to make sure there's no reason (technically or from a support standpoint) that we would not recommend integrating these.

I have been experiencing a strange problem i have a switch stack of 3750 in which 4 switches are cascaded. there is one one switch shows PROVISIONED status when I run "show switch". i have verified the stack cable connectivity its OK.
now when i try to console that particular switch i am unable to access it as well. I tried to reboot that switch and on reboot it only shows one LED syst blink once and after that remains constant and nothing happens to other LEDS. from the back of the switch FAN is working fine.

I need to move the client machines off of the 3750 (and their DHCP dependency on it) to the SGE2010 and absolutely route their internet traffic out through the outside interface on the 5505. They must also be able to communicate back into the internal environment in order to communicate with the production servers.
The clients currently use .254 addressing through a dumb dell switch to the 3750 but I am trying to migrate them over slowly to the .253. I know that the 2010 will not do DHCP, so I am putting a DHCP server on that switch right now. The 5505 won't let me add an additional nameif statement onto one of the other eth0/x interfaces and I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it's capabilities to act as a DHCP server (it's not an option in the ASDM) or it's ability to serve as the internet gateway for the 2010 clients. (Side notes: The 5505 has a base license and is currently also connecting 1 site to site VPN. As is the 5520, so all of it's interfaces are used as well).
I statically assigned a moved client with a .253 address and plugged it into the 2010. I have tried giving the 2010 both a .4 address and a .253 address but neither will allow me to ping any of the addresses on the 5505. The 2010 shows automatic routes to the two subnets and I set it's default route to 253.1. The link between the 2010 and the 3750 works - clients receive a .254 address from the 3750 and can get out to the internet via the 5505 and reach the production servers as well.
Why won't the 2010 see the 5505 as a gateway and allow clients to get to the internet and also traverse the 3750 when they need access to the production network?
The reason why I dont' just connect the two swtiches and call it a day is because I also need the production servers to ALWAYS go out/receive web requests via the 5520 outbound/outside interface. I'm having such a hard time wrapping my head around why i can't get my clients moved over to the new switch, I haven't even grasped how I'm going to do that yet.

I have two 3750 layer3 switches and I need to connect them via stack cable.so if I connect them with the stack they will be act as an one switch, but for the configuration if I create a VLANs on the master switch (applied all the configuration on the master one) this configuration will be transfered to the slave one or I have to repeat the configuration that I did on the master.

Looking for feedback from other organizations that have large 3750 stacks. I've got one stack of (8) 3750's composed of (6) 3750G's and (2) plain 3750's. This particular stack is usually unresponsive to SNMP queries and often fails to write config when we make changes. After a couple tries it will finally go. Part of my probably here is likely the plain 3750's that always boot faster and come up as the master. I should manually set the master to one of the G's. What I'm wondering is who else has 7-9 3750's stacked and are they performing well for SNMP, telnet, etc? I've got another newer stack of 7 3750E's that I need to add one more switch to. Need to decide if I want extended downtime to break the stack up or just add the 3750X to make member 8 and hope it performs well. I have 50+ 3750 stacks working great on our campus.

We currently have a site with a very simple topology that uses a 3750X switch stack for a collapsed core. Everyday, the users have a conference call and experience poor voice quality. Its not bad when users call from several conference phones, but when everyone calls in on individual phones, there is choppy and almost inaudible voice quality experienced. The voice traffic flow would be as follows: Phone <-> 3750 switch <-> Voice GW We have packet captures showing that RTP packet loss is occuring from the phone to the voice gateway, but none from the voice gateway to the phones. We also have drops in the output queues that match drops on the asics. I can reset the counters and they will be clear until the call, and then they increment significantly during the call. The voice gateway and phones are non-Cisco. The switch stack has 6 switches. We are trusting the DSCP settings on the phones. All the queue drops from the phones are usually in queues 0-3, but all drops on the voice gateway is in queue 0. Below are the QoS settings; they are mostly default and we have not changed any queuing, thresholds, or buffers. Should we specify larger buffers and threshold for a designated queue and send EF traffic to that queue?
MySwitch#sh mls qos
QoS is enabled
QoS ip packet dscp rewrite is disabled
Typical Port
GigabitEthernet1/0/4
trust state: trust dscp
