Cisco :: ASR 1001 - Adding Routers To NCS Prime?
Jan 20, 2013
This would be the first time I will be working on NCS for a client. There is completely a new install and I was just doing my reading to get my head around the overall working of the product. I had a small Q in mind which I wanted to ask here, while going the config guide, i could not find the way to add a router to the NCS prime. W have ASR 1001 in use along with switches. I read in some forum that NCS supported routers but couldnt find the way in the config guide unless i am missing somewhere. The NCS version is 1.0

I recently upgraded from WCS 7 to Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.3 (1.3.0.20). I've successfully added my 5508 WLC, 7204 router, 4506 Switch and several other devices. The one problem I have not figured out is how to add my 50 + AIR-LAP1142N-A-K9 to Prime. I can see under Home > General > Overview that I have AP availability of: 53 but when I go to Device Group > ... > Unified AP > Cisco 1140 Series Unified Access Points there are no devices listed. I've tried to manually add them but they fail.

Not a lot of clear documentation about this and I'm not sure what to try next.

When I add this as a device in Prime, it seems to handle this as some sort of generic device, at least it doesn't know that it's a WAAS.
This is what Prime shows when I've added WAAS to the device list:
No Device Info for the selected device IP Address10.y.x.7Product FamilyOwning Entity ID16249245_10.y.x.7NE ID16250325

I just got PI1.3, I'm new with it, and I don't know how to add devices. I have an 4500-X, an 3850 and 12 pcs. 2960S.
I see that are some out-of-the-box templates, but when i try to deploy, for example "medianet perfom" in Devices box I got "no data available"
What I have to configure on switches?

My company has purchased a second ASA for fail over reasons and I'm needing to attach it to my core router (ASR 1001). Currently I'm running the connection between my ASA and my Core as a /19 ie. ASA-10.10.10.2/19 -- ASR-10.10.10.1/19. I know the 2nd interface on the ASR will need to be on a different network segment then the first connection (10.10.10.1/19). What would be the best way to segment this out with out breaking up my /19?
Run /30 segments for each interface? Use a VLan ?
I don't want to use up my Internet rout able IP's on /30 segments. Attached diagram.

I'm currently running CiscoWorks LMS 4.0.1 on Windows 2003 under VMware and just got upgrade licensing for Prime Infrastructure 1.2. I am assuming that I will need to upgrade the current server to Prime LMS 4.2 in order to ensure that data migration to Prime Infrastructure goes well. I am planning to follow Cisco's recommendation to run Prime LMS and Prime Infrastructure in parallel for a time and migrate individual functions.
My real question is about Syslog handling. All of the managed devices are currently sending Syslog data to LMS. As a last step in the migration, is it possible to change the IP address of the Prime Infrastructure server to replace the Prime LMS server so that the Prime Infrastructure server will just start getting all the Syslog data, or do I need to go change hundreds of managed devices to point to a new address?

I am pretty new to Cisco networking and setting up a test router to use from home to connect into our network. My organization would like for us to provide upper management with home office setups to give them the ability to work from home. We will provide all of the equipment of course (router, phone and workstation). my boss wants me to use some of our old decommissioned equipment to set up a test home office to see how efficient and feasible it would be. I have a Cisco 1700 router, Altigen IP720 phone, and Dell Optiplex 380 workstation.

I currently have 1 cat 5 jack at my tv/entertainment area and will be needing additional jacks to add gaming consoles, streaming video player and internet ready tv at the same location. The current jack installed at that location is coming from a D-Link 8 port Gigabit switch installed in a different room. The switch is at capacity, all ports are full,so no additional availability there. My question is how to expand port availability at the entertainment area.Is it possible to put another switch or hub at that connection?Would there be a conflict with cascading a switch from one to another? I have a 25 meg fiber optic incoming service,so there is plenty of speed and bandwith available to handle these componets.

Today I had to reset the router completely to factory default, if I was adding services to the forwarding or UpNp service management, suddenly it stopped adding the new ones. Now after starting all over it's having the same behaviour, see below my services, normally you can have 30 rules in this list but I cannot add new ones now.
Now I want to insert a new service IMAPS for port 993 so I go to service management. Then press "add to list" see below for result. It is there, then press OK and the screen closes, now if I choose a service from the list, it is not there !!

I am somewhat of a neophyte at networking and I have a question. I have a small business network using a secure wireless router connected to my cable modem. We have a DVR security system which we would like to monitor remotely. I would like to keep the DVR separate from my secure wireless router for security reasons. My thought is to connect the DVR through a cable or wired modem into my cable modem. Do you folks think this will cause an issue with the wireless router which uses DHCP to determine the IP address?

I just would like to confirm if the ASR 1001 with IP Base license can support the normal BGP features such as remote-peering IPV4, Local-AS.
I am not looking for advanced features such as Route Reflectors, VPLS, L2 VPN, etc.

I am replacing my 2900 Internet router with a ASR 1001. I am really not doing anything to fancy on the configuration just routing traffic from the internal LAN to our ISP connection. With the new ASR 1001 there is a configuration for VRF Definition Mgmt-Intf do I do anything with this? There is also a interface for vrf forwarding. At this point we are just running IPv4. The plan was just to configure the GigabitEthernet interfaces but I wanted to make sure if I should try and configure VRF.

We have an existing WAN connection from a Cisco 2821 router to Time Warner with a single mode fiber connection using the following SFP:We have a ASR 1001 router configured to replace the 2821 router. When I connect the fiber into the ASR 1001 router the link does not come up. I have used the above SFP without success and the following SFP.I have seen Cisco documentation that only certain SFP modules are compatible with ASR router, but I believe the second SFP I listed is compatible. As a test, I connected my ASR router to a 3750 switch using long haul SFP modules on each end so I know the SFP module works. The only downside to this test is I only had a multi mode patch cable. Are there specific settings on the ASR interface that need to be set to allow this connection?

I have an issue with an ASR 1001. The problem occurs with MQC shaping applied to a gigabit interface in the outbound direction. The CIR of the provider we are using is 100Mb/sec, so we are shaping to that value. However when reported traffic levels are about 60Mb/sec, we see a steady increase in output drops. [code]
I have also tried increasing the hold queue, however this does not work with the drops. Increasing the shaping rate to 200Mb/sec gets rid of almost all the drops (not quite all!) but is not what we need. I think that we should see some drops when rates spike above 100mb, however the amount we are seeing seems excessive?

A customer recently purchased an ASR 1001 under the impression it could replace their old 3662 router and ASA 5505. The ASA is configured for their SmartFilter proxy server (N2H2), and I am having a heck of a time finding any documention on how to configure this. I found the following: To use SmartFilter with Cisco IOS firewall, install the SmartFilter componentsand use the IFP plugin (off-box). To configure the Cisco IOS for SmartFilter, use the Cisco document Firewall N2H2 Support located on the Cisco Web site,[URL]Well, I found the Firewall N2H2 Support document [URL], but the ip inspect command doesn't seem to work on the ASR. Is there any way to make this work or does the ASA have to stay in line?...
