Cisco Catalyst Interoperability With Brocade ICX Switches

Feb 12, 2013

At the moment our whole company is equipped with Catalyst switches ranging from 2950, 2960 to some 3560G and 3750X (Cores). Now I'm thinking of replacing some of the old 2950s (which are only fast ethernet) with some Brocade 6430 or 6450s, since they're so much less in pricing. My concerns though are: will spanning tree work problem free, access lists still work and any other problems I could encounter with interoperability.According to Brocade most of these things should work fine, but I'm searching for some facts from people who are running a heterogenic Network with these two brands (even the same product lines).

Cisco Vs Brocade VLAN Trunks

Oct 25, 2012

Let's say I have a Brocade switch, and a Cisco switch, and I've formed a VLAN trunk between the two.On the Cisco switch, I configure the trunk to utilize VLAN 3 for its native VLAN.On the Brocade switch, I utilized the command 'default-vlan-id 2'. I have configured the port going to the Cisco switch in dual mode. From my understanding, when a port is placed in dual mode, it sends frames that are untagged as the default vlan. Does this cause a native VLAN mismatch?

Cisco Firewall :: Interoperability ASA5540 Routing And Nat With The Same Zones?

May 18, 2011

I am migrating firewall fortinet to ASA5540 with inside (192.0.0.0/24), dmz (192.168.0.0/24), and outside (x.x.x.x), but the users of inside network gain access to the aplication for two ways: the first way is trough routing between inside and dmz, for example 192.0.0.200 to 192.168.0.20, and the another way is trough static nat between inside and dmz for example 192.0.0.200 to 192.0.0.20 (192.168.0.20 static nat). Is posible in Cisco configure that? because when i configure only firewall route the first way is OK, but when i add the second way only nat is work!

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750-X Allied Telesis Switch Interoperability

Sep 22, 2012

Does the Catalyst 3750-X (WS-C3750X-24T-L) and Allied Telesis AT-9924T url... switches work together without any issue? The two switches will be connected using the following modules: [code] The Allied Telesis switch is the core L3 switch currently being used, and the new Cisco switch to be purchased will be used for servers (single VLAN 100). It is planned to configure link aggregation between the switches. Because the Cisco switch is to connect only servers all ports except connected to Allied Telesis switch will be on a VLAN 100. I have checked the Cisco switch software configuration manual and could not find any word about GVRP protocol support. Does that mean the 3750-X will not be able to do VLAN trunking with Allied Telesis switch?

Cisco Switches :: ESW-520-24p Not Able To Connect To Catalyst 3560G

Sep 27, 2010

a customer purchased a ESW-520-24p to be used in a VoIP project. Today we had difficulties connecting it to a Catalyst 3650G switch; We've tried setting the port to trunk, general, customer and access and changed all sorts of VLAN settings on the 3560G switch to no avail: the switches just wont interconnect. While sniffing we saw that ARP requests are even not answered, so something is wrong on a low level, probably with VLAN-ing.if these switches should be able to be interconnected and if yes, what needs to be done to do so?

Secondly; voice will be on seperate VLAN and the client will use SPA942 phones, which have an internal switch that allows to connect a PC to it. I've used this phoned successfully with Catalyst Express switches and I didn't have to do anything for VLAN-ing, this worked "out of the box". Can these phones work with the Small Business switches as well?

Motherboard1:When connected to the 3550T the LED is amber for maybe a minute then goes off

Motherboard2:When connected to the 3550T the LED is Green but Motherboard Nic is amber. In windows under adapter settings, Local Area Connection Both Show red X

Motherboard2:

Os: Win7 Sp1 x64 w/latest updates

No other filters or access list? I have tried on multiple Cisco Switches 2950T, 3500 and 3550T with same result. what odd is these pc's can plug into a Netgear or ActionTec(Verizon) type of switch and work fine. Is there some command I need to apply to those ports to make it work with these GBE controllers. Or How do I get these Gigabyte Mobo(NiC) to work on Cisco Switches?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Catalyst Blade Switches 3020 For HP

Feb 10, 2013

We have 12 Catalyst Blade Switches 3020 for HP running IOS Version 12.2(55)SE.  In the configuration of these switches I see the statement shown below.

no spanning-tree vlan 34,45-55,70,600,643,840,843-850

The 12 blade switches are configured as VTP clients and running VTP V2.  I did not configure the statement shown above.  It appered by itself.  And even if I delete it, it will reapper.  (The blade switches are interconnected to two 6509s.  The two 6509s are the STP root and VTP bridges. I configure Vlans and STP on the 6509s).

why the statement above appers on the blade switches 3020s?

I mean I use other Cisco switches such as 3750s and 3560s and I have never seen the statement above appear by itself.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Trunking Between Catalyst 2950 Switches?

May 14, 2012

have setup a small lab as per CBTNuggets. Everything was going well until I introduced a second switch to create a trunk. Now I cannot ping between my two switches. Both show operational mode as down:

SWITCH1#show interfaces f0/12 switchport
Name: Fa0/12
Switchport: Enabled
Administrative Mode: trunk
Operational Mode: down
Administrative Trunking Encapsulation: dot1q

[code]....

I have tried to allow all vlans or vlan 1 specifically and the output of the above doesn't seem to change. I am wondering if there is something in the config-register that is preventing trunking, but I don't really know enough yet!

The output of my second switch is identical to this one, the only difference is that I have it configured as a vtp client.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Auto-QoS On Catalyst 3750 LAN Switches?

Aug 12, 2012

why the AutoQoS macro does not implement "priority-queue out" when configured on the 3750 platform running certain versions of software. The only other platform I have experience with AutoQos is on the 4500 and it enables priority queuing as expected. So what's up with autoqos on the 3750 on version 12.2(35)SE5?

When it comes to configuring QoS on campus user/phone access ports there are some important settings that can and should be considered but one can argue that enabling the priority queue is the single most impactful or important command. So I was very surprised and concerned when I didn't see priority-queue out. Cisco describes AutoQoS as a simple, quick way of deploying QoS on the LAN and it precludes you from having to learn all of the differences between hardware platforms. But is it true that this tool produces an incomplete config solution? Let me know if I am missing something.

Here is an example of what AutoQoS produces when applied to a 4507 with WS-X4648-RJ45V+E:(other interface commands are left out for simplicity)

interface GigabitEthernet5/25description XYZ
switchport mode accessauto qos voip cisco-phoneqos trust device cisco-phoneservice-policy input AutoQos-VoIP-Input-Cos-Policyservice-policy output AutoQos-VoIP-Output-Policy
 policy-map AutoQos-VoIP-Output-Policy
class AutoQos-VoIP-Bearer-QosGroup
set dscp ef

[code]......

Here is an example of what AutoQoS produces when applied to a 3750 running version 12.2.(35)SE5: (no priority-queue out)

interface GigabitEthernet1/0/36
switchport access vlan 8
switchport mode access
srr-queue bandwidth share 10 10 60 20
srr-queue bandwidth shape 10 0 0 0

Cisco WAN :: WS-C3560G-48TS-E / Cold Startup Time For Catalyst Switches?

Apr 23, 2013

My customer uses WS-C3560G-48TS-E switches in air traffic control systems. A requirement for one project is that the entire system be up and running in under five minutes. The WS-C3560G-48TS-E and its replacement - WS-C3560X-48T-E with C3KX-NM-1G - take about four minutes to start up. With other devices added in they exceed their required startup time. They also use WS-C3560V2-48TS-E switches which take about two minutes to start up but they want they GE.

1) Is there way to improve the start up time in the WS-C3560G-48TS-E and WS-C3560X-48T-E switches?

2) Is there another Catalyst switch with similar specifications to WS-C3560G-48TS-E and WS-C3560X-48T-E that has a quicker start up time.

Cisco Switches :: Linksys SRW 224G4 / Catalyst 3650G And Management Via Trunk?

Dec 15, 2009

I have couple of Linksys SRW 224G4 and SRW 2024 connected together with Cisco C3650 switches. For my part of network VLAN100 is used as administrative vlan and VLAN1 as defult (on trunks or unused ports).Altrough most of switches work fine, on all older models of SRW224G4 (hw 1.0, various firmware versions) there is no connectivity to management utilities (also ping won't work) via trunk (where of course VLAN100 is present). At the same time there is no problem with access from "local" ports (assigned to VLAN100) and there are no problems with traffic on VLAN 100 along the network.

For example:Two computers (A and B), two switches (sw1 - old SRW224G4 and sw2 - Cisco switch), are connected as follow:
A--VLAN100--sw1--TRUNK--sw2--VLAN100--B

Swicthes have VLAN100 as management VLAN, computers are connected to access ports (untagged).A has access to management on sw1 and sw2 and connectivity with B?B has access to management on sw2 and connectivity with B but has no access to management on sw1...If sw1 and sw2 are same, old SRW224G4 - everything works fine.Newer versions of SRW224G4, SRW2024 and SLM2024 works OK.Why it doesn't work?

Cisco Switches :: Catalyst 4510 - Integrating SG200 Into Existing Network

This is a legacy network which I didn't setup so my Cisco skills are somewhat limited (another reason for the SG200's hopefully), anyway have been looking at the configs on the existing switches and trying to match settings in the SG200 setup however not getting anywhere! I have the config from the dead switch so I can show what needs to be achieved, any experience in downgrading environment in a similar way?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Catalyst 4507 - Configuring Layer 3 Switches?

Sep 5, 2012

I've got the configuration portion complete and all devices are able to communicate my only question is about QoS. Do I have to configure QoS at the layer 3 interfaces for voice, if so how is that completed. We have several vlans and separate the vlans for each building by voice and data. We only configure ports on the access switches with voice vlans for QoS and we use the auto qos option on these interfaces.
