We just purchased (3) WS-C2960-24CT-S and (1) 3750G, what's the proper way to cascade this switches? Do I need to use crossover cables from port to port? Do I need to change the mode for the ports to use?

We have 12 Catalyst Blade Switches 3020 for HP running IOS Version 12.2(55)SE. In the configuration of these switches I see the statement shown below.
no spanning-tree vlan 34,45-55,70,600,643,840,843-850
The 12 blade switches are configured as VTP clients and running VTP V2. I did not configure the statement shown above. It appered by itself. And even if I delete it, it will reapper. (The blade switches are interconnected to two 6509s. The two 6509s are the STP root and VTP bridges. I configure Vlans and STP on the 6509s).
why the statement above appers on the blade switches 3020s?
I mean I use other Cisco switches such as 3750s and 3560s and I have never seen the statement above appear by itself.
have setup a small lab as per CBTNuggets. Everything was going well until I introduced a second switch to create a trunk. Now I cannot ping between my two switches. Both show operational mode as down:

I have tried to allow all vlans or vlan 1 specifically and the output of the above doesn't seem to change. I am wondering if there is something in the config-register that is preventing trunking, but I don't really know enough yet!
The output of my second switch is identical to this one, the only difference is that I have it configured as a vtp client.

why the AutoQoS macro does not implement "priority-queue out" when configured on the 3750 platform running certain versions of software. The only other platform I have experience with AutoQos is on the 4500 and it enables priority queuing as expected. So what's up with autoqos on the 3750 on version 12.2(35)SE5?
When it comes to configuring QoS on campus user/phone access ports there are some important settings that can and should be considered but one can argue that enabling the priority queue is the single most impactful or important command. So I was very surprised and concerned when I didn't see priority-queue out. Cisco describes AutoQoS as a simple, quick way of deploying QoS on the LAN and it precludes you from having to learn all of the differences between hardware platforms. But is it true that this tool produces an incomplete config solution? Let me know if I am missing something.
Here is an example of what AutoQoS produces when applied to a 4507 with WS-X4648-RJ45V+E:(other interface commands are left out for simplicity)

I have a customer with Cisco 7940 and 7960 IP phones that they do not plan to replace. They do want a new LAN and are looking at the Catalyst WS-C2960S-48FPD-L and WS-C2960S-24PD-L as access layer devices.
these switches support the Cisco pre-standard PoE required by the 7940 and 7960 IP phones.
Any one who knows where I can find a documentation where it says the maximum switches per stack for the Catalyst 2960 family?
View 2 Replies View RelatedWe have a couple of Cisco switches and connected a (Windows 7) laptop to one of them and it gets its IP address from a DHCP server.I can now ping the IP from all of the switches, no problem, also not when I log on to the core switch in the same VLAN as both notebooks. But from my (Windows 7) laptop, which is in the same VLAN as the target laptop, I cannot ping it.
I checked, default gateway is good on both sides, as are DNS servers.

I've been conducting research on configuring 3 distribution switches in my network which are Cisco Catalyst 4507's to communicate with our core over layer 3. Our core switch which is already configured at Layer 3 for intervlan routing is a Cisco Catalyst 6509.
I've got the configuration portion complete and all devices are able to communicate my only question is about QoS. Do I have to configure QoS at the layer 3 interfaces for voice, if so how is that completed. We have several vlans and separate the vlans for each building by voice and data. We only configure ports on the access switches with voice vlans for QoS and we use the auto qos option on these interfaces.
Are there any best practices for preventative maintenance on Catalyst Chassis switches. Looking to build a PMI schedule for a customer. Or is there evidence not to perform it at all. Things like re-seating line cards, cleaning fan exhausts, etc.

View 1 Replies View RelatedDoes a portable RPS device either from Cisco or another manufacturer exists, that would allow you to move primary power for a switch without causing an outage? I realize that for the Catalyst 3560 for example, you can get an RPS 2300 or 675, but my understanding is that these are made for a more permanent installation, not to mention rather costly.
It looks like the RPS 675 is rather inexpensive after all, especially in the secondary market, but still rather large for toting around.
SG 300-10 user manual states to not mount the switch on either side (I'm assuming this means the right or left ends as you face the front) and that they can be mounted either face-up or face down or flat). The specs further say that a 5" space must be "around all sides" of the unit. Silly question is what does "all sides of the unit' really mean? (of course given you must mount is somewhere). Also, given the little feet supplied with the unit, it is implicit to me the bottom needs to be only about 1/32" from the horizontal surface it is placed on. If this is true, can this unit be mounted face down on a shelf such as the Leviton 47612-UBK (it's allowing the mounted units to have airflow between the unit and the cabinet back) and have a second SG 300-10 mounted in front of the first that is seperated from the first by either the dual feet or use separation spacers that will fill the available shelf space and maximize the distance between the units - all without degrading the inherent reliability of either?
Lastly, The two SG 300-10's are reaching the internet through a LINKSYS E4200 router. Is it better to have each SG 300-10 occupying its own dedicated port on the router OR to cascade one SG 300-10 to the other SG 300-10 then one of the LINKSYS E4200 router? If the answer is each occupying their own dedicated LINKSYS port, then would it be prudent to load one SG 300-10 with the most active ethernet lines to allow the other SG 300's port power management to shut it down?
We have a customer who uses about 20 x c2960's switches for access layer and 2 x c3560e for distribution layer. C2960's uses C2960-LANLITEK9-M , Version 12.2(58)SE1. Everything was working fine. Now we got information, that sometimes there are problems with connectivity. Customer tries to reach internet.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to configure RSPAN for one of my client. They have Server-Client VTP architecture. Voice Recording Server is connected to C4507. Agents are connected to C2960 and C3750. I got 2 sessions configured and the connectivity is a as follows:
1. Voice Recording Server-----C4507-----C2960-----C2960-----Agent IP Phones (Session 1)
2. Voice Recording Server-----C4507-----C3750-----Agent IP Phones (Session 2)
Recording works with Session-2 but not with Session-1. I understand the problem could be due to multiple reasons: 1.1. C2960 is working in client VTP mode so i cannot add remote span command under the vlan configuration. 1.2. C2960 has LANLITE IOS image which i am not sure if it supports Remote Span.
I have a C2960-24TT-L Switch with the following problem:When the Power Cord is plugged in the Switch, all switch indicator LEDs go on very briefly. Then SYST LED blinks very briefly, goes on steady and remains at this state without any indication at the console.Tried the reset by holding the MODE button while plugging in power but I still get no indication at the console. All is fine with console, meaning that if I take out the cable and plug it in another switch, then I see all that there is there to be seen.My question: Is the switch beyond repair or is there something that can be done to get the switch to run POST and boot at rommon so that I can reload SW and configs?

I've got a C2960 (sw01) and a C2948. (sw02) The sw02 switch is trunked with sw01, and is meant to serve as an extension to the VLANs (1-4) that exist on sw01. It is trunking properly, however, how would I go about giving the sw02 an IP so that I can access it via SSH? Would I have to create a VLAN specifically on sw02 with an ip and switchport an interface to use it? I know that a VLAN can only have a single IP, but I'd like sw02 to have an IP on VLAN1 (192.168.1.0 subnet), is that possible?

View 1 Replies View RelatedYesterday I tried to install c2960-lanbasek9.mz.12.55.SE4.bin onto my router. When I changed the boot commands, I did not leave the 2nd option in there and the old firmware has an .ex3 extension. After trying to boot to this new image, we receive a looping error message that continues to reboot and go through the same process.Basically the error is "ERROR: firmware not supported by hardware"I have power cycled it a few times but durning bootup, I never see the ################## which would allow me to BREAK sequence and get into rommon. The device simply waits about 30-40 seconds after boot and goes right back to the looping reboot sequence and the error message. Is there any hyper term or putty settings to change on this?

Unfortunately, there is no option to configure this neither is the speed of that interface. But these options are present in FastEthernet ports. First config:

The MAC shown here is from a voip Phone. After the phone boot up, the p, because it must boot first in vlan 250 (access vlan). On the port you can only see the MAC from vlan 201. With the second config the phone can boot without problems:

is there a reason, why it is the problem with the first config on cat2960 ? The same first config works with an Cat2950 without problems.
