The link is 100 MB. The switch port is directly connected to patch panel of DC provider and I believe they have some L3 switch or some other device that is providing LAN extension...

Aug 14, 2012Yesterday I tried to install c2960-lanbasek9.mz.12.55.SE4.bin onto my router. When I changed the boot commands, I did not leave the 2nd option in there and the old firmware has an .ex3 extension. After trying to boot to this new image, we receive a looping error message that continues to reboot and go through the same process.Basically the error is "ERROR: firmware not supported by hardware"I have power cycled it a few times but durning bootup, I never see the ################## which would allow me to BREAK sequence and get into rommon. The device simply waits about 30-40 seconds after boot and goes right back to the looping reboot sequence and the error message. Is there any hyper term or putty settings to change on this?

Mar 1, 2013After not seeming to be able to save any configurations in 12.2(25)FX, I thought an upgrade would work since it said it didn't recognize my browser or OS but let me continue. I was able to see everything just couldn't save changes.
I updated to 15.0(1)SE3 and everything seemed to be going well. Tried to log back in HTTP (have not set n IP yet since it is still at my house... DHCP seems to be working) and I get a user/password screen that says level_15_access and it won't let me in.
Attempts to log in terminal have been unsuccessful. I can log in my dell switch which I am replacing and my APC units terminal just fine using USB to serial and Ubuntu.
I tried cisco as a password, user and password, admin, administrator no luck.
What is the best way to resolve this, is there a sure fire windows serial program or settings I should use in linux (currently 9600,8,N,1) to connect? I have looked through manuals till I am blue in the face.

The LED port on switch don't stop blinking as LED setup either. Is there another way to do the master reset?

Mar 12, 2013I am trying to configure RSPAN for one of my client. They have Server-Client VTP architecture. Voice Recording Server is connected to C4507. Agents are connected to C2960 and C3750. I got 2 sessions configured and the connectivity is a as follows:
1. Voice Recording Server-----C4507-----C2960-----C2960-----Agent IP Phones (Session 1)
2. Voice Recording Server-----C4507-----C3750-----Agent IP Phones (Session 2)
Recording works with Session-2 but not with Session-1. I understand the problem could be due to multiple reasons: 1.1. C2960 is working in client VTP mode so i cannot add remote span command under the vlan configuration. 1.2. C2960 has LANLITE IOS image which i am not sure if it supports Remote Span.

Apr 23, 2013I have a C2960-24TT-L Switch with the following problem:When the Power Cord is plugged in the Switch, all switch indicator LEDs go on very briefly. Then SYST LED blinks very briefly, goes on steady and remains at this state without any indication at the console.Tried the reset by holding the MODE button while plugging in power but I still get no indication at the console. All is fine with console, meaning that if I take out the cable and plug it in another switch, then I see all that there is there to be seen.My question: Is the switch beyond repair or is there something that can be done to get the switch to run POST and boot at rommon so that I can reload SW and configs?

Feb 7, 2012I've got a C2960 (sw01) and a C2948. (sw02) The sw02 switch is trunked with sw01, and is meant to serve as an extension to the VLANs (1-4) that exist on sw01. It is trunking properly, however, how would I go about giving the sw02 an IP so that I can access it via SSH? Would I have to create a VLAN specifically on sw02 with an ip and switchport an interface to use it? I know that a VLAN can only have a single IP, but I'd like sw02 to have an IP on VLAN1 (192.168.1.0 subnet), is that possible?

Apr 4, 2013Customer has a Catalyst WS-C2960-48PST-L. and in some ports we have VoIP phones with PoE company Aastra. If I use first config we have problem when phone boot up.
First config:

The MAC shown here is from a voip Phone. After the phone boot up, the p, because it must boot first in vlan 250 (access vlan). On the port you can only see the MAC from vlan 201. With the second config the phone can boot without problems:

is there a reason, why it is the problem with the first config on cat2960 ? The same first config works with an Cat2950 without problems.

Switch B is: SG 300-10MP
Neither switch supports a similiar transceiver module. We are looking at transceiver GLC-SX-MM for Switch A, and MGBSX1 for Switch B all the Layer-1 information (SX / wavelength, Multi Mode, etc.) I am able to find out about the two transceivers seems to match, so would there be any issue by having these 2 "different" transceivers at either end?

Jul 18, 2012A quick one because I'm scratching my head trying to figure the difference between the 2960 LAN Base and LAN Lite IOS installs. I want to put a 2960 into a site which has as layer 2 link on dark fiber taking it elsewhere. This part I'm not concerned about - the WS-C2960--24TC will do what I need without issue - but I don't know if I can get away with LAN Lite, or if I need LAN Base.
I basically need V LAN's with associated SVI's, and a routed link on the up link port (I don't care if it's a switch port with an associated SVI or a no switch port and IP address), but it's got to be able to run OSPF. Can I do this with LAN base on this series switch? Or do I need to go for a higher series (3560?). I *could* get away with static routes, but my boss is walking death on them unless I can 100% prove they're necessary, so I'd rather not right that fight!

Dec 20, 2011I have a cisco2960 with c2960-lanbasek9-mz.122-50.SE4 imagebase.This switch is connected with 3 unmanaged switches.Though 2960 is managed and only a single vlan is given accessed to connected other unmanaged switches.Problem is this, if at user end, a laptop is connected ( Microsoft Vista OS) and its IPv6 is checked in the LAN properties settings then the laptop's IP address changed from our VLAN to 192.168.100.x series and due to this other connected user's DNS addresses become changed.Hence I want to block this IP or its MAC on Cisco 2960.

Feb 9, 2012I enabled the "no service password-recovery" command on my C2960 switch. All seems to work as discribed. Only issue I have is --- which show command is used to reveal if the password-recovery feature is enabled of disabled as the command doesn't show up in the running config after you enable it ?
NOTE: The command does show up in the C2960 switch in config t mode (unlike the IOS router 2800 series), but doesn't show up in the running-config after you enable or disable it.
On the 2800 series routers (latest IOS) in config t mode the command does not show up but if you type "no service passowrd-recovery" the command function correctly and it does list it in the running configuration.

I indeed want to apply Qos for ToIP, Video, perhaps create a scavenger class, ans in all cases, I classify my packets with TCP/UDPB port and mark them with DSCP. So is it really necessary to study all the DSCP/CoS mapping problematics ? Is it not possible to make the configurations only on the base of the DSCP field?
