I'm trying to do a Master reset on my Catalyst Express 500 (WS-CE500-24TT v01) and I'm having troubles with this. url...I do everything as it says, but when I plug the cable and I pull up the Web browser nothings appear, just the message that I don't have a Internet connection. The LED port on switch don't stop blinking as LED setup either. Is there another way to do the master reset?
We have inherited a Catalyst Express 500 (model WS-CE500-24PC) from a company we aquired, and are having issues configuring the switch.
The switch must have been configured previously, but we don't know its IP address. It is no longer on the network, so we can restart it as much as we need to.
We followed the factory reset process:
1) Disconnect the switch from the power supply 2) Reconnect the switch while holding the "SETUP" button 3) Release the "SETUP" button when the status LEDs all turn Amber 4) Wait for POST to complete 5) Connect one PC to the port whose LED starts flashing
However, the PC is never given an IP address, and when we open a web browser, anything we try to browse to gives us "Page cannot be displayed", rather than the setup page for the switch.
Are there any known issues or browser/OS incompatibilities with this model of switch? We're using Vista and Windows 7 with IE7, IE8 and Firefox 3.
I am trying to factory reset CE500 switch, as described in the factory rest section of the documentation. I do not get an IP address via DHCP from the switch.
On boot up I hold the setup button down, wait till the lights go solid amber release setup. wait for a port on the switch to start blinking green port 1 starts blinking green, plug my pc into port and wait for IP..and keep waiting !!!!
I have tried this on 3 switches now all with the same result.... NO IP offered.
GE1-2 Switch ports - MAC filtering is NOT enabled.
8 Port G Switch = SBS2008 / Win2003 with Citrix / Win2K8 Management Server - plus a couple of desktops for Gig to server access.
I connected on the 8 port Gig SW a new Server running Windows 2012 Hyper-V and am not able to ping the PIX - I disabled the firewall and made sure the network location of the HV server is set properly. From the PIX if I try to ping the HV server it fails but I can do a sh arp and the MAC address of the HV server is there. I can ping the HV server from any other device connected to the Gig SW. I can not ping the CE500 from the HV server but I do see the HV server MAC address in the MAC table of the CE500 SW. I tried plugging the HV server into G1 on the CE500 and same thing - the MAC shows up on the correct port but no traffic seems to pass. I have had issues with this switch in the past where a printer would not communicate between the Gig ports and the FE ports - I moved the printer to the Gig switch and made all the users print via print server and forgot about it.
Is there a way to prevent resetting catalyst config by pressing and holding in the MODE button after powerup? I had entered in a basic config into my switch including passwords, etc. and was checking out different uses of the MODE button including setting the switch into express mode and I somehow managed to wipe the config and send the switch back into a default state by holding the mode button in for too long.
I want to prevent this from happening once the switch it is in production.
Not sure if it matters, but this is the 24 S model using the LAN lite image..
I have one out of three Catalyst Express 520's I cannot connect to with Cisco Configuration Assistant or with a browser. I've used Wireshark to capture the problem, and it sends a TCP RST packet immediately upon any such connection attempt.
As these devices do not have a console port, how can I gain access to the device? We'd like to upgrade them but cannot pull the existing config.
Since these 520's don't support or are not configured for telnet/ssh and the only connection I can make is with a broswer and CCA, I'm wondering if there is a way to get the config into a text file as normally done.
I am struggling with a CE520 and its smartports stuff.I have configured the following vlans :
1- data 100 - phones
I need to bring those vlans (both of them) to a Cisco 800 router. The port of the 800 router is already configured as trunk and accepts vlan 1 and 100.The cisco 800 has both vlan 1 and 100 configured with 2 ips on different subnets, and ip routing is enable (to route between two vlans). Also, no access lists are configured.I have configured one port in the switch as role "router" and connected to the router. The other ports are all configured as phone-desktop (phone vlan 100 desktop vlan 1).If I connect a phone and manually configure an ip (the phone gets automatically vlan 100), and try to ping the phone from the router, it doesnt respond. Alse vlan 100 is protocol down.I am guessing what s the right configuration as the link between the switch and the router should be a trunk link for 1 and 100 vlans, but it looks like is transporting only vlan 1.Also changing the port role to "other" when you can specify the native vlan and another vlan, the switch doesnt accept vlan 100 as additional vlan on that link.
I was trying to configure my Catalyst Express 500 switch (PID VID: WS-CE500-24LC V01) and i followed the step i found in a document on Cisco website but still it showed an error "Page not found" and address displayed on bar was"169.254.0.1/catalyst-express.htm).
i've got a stack of 3750's configured, everything is working fine, but the web interface for the stack will only present the web based express configuration page. I can't get it to go away. what needs to be done to clear whatever flag or register that causes this behavior. the cli is fine, it's not trying to force epxress setup there, only in the web interface. will reloading the software image fix this?
I am not able to successfully accomplish the password reset function. This 2950 does not respond to the mode button held down at power up or to sending a briak. I have tried both several times and the switch continues to fully boot. [URL]

have a Switch I bought off a guy at work. Just to get into the Switching world of Cisco. He doesnt know the password on it and i cant reset the switch. I would like to mess around with it more but it doesnt load the flash or helper. It just sits there and holds. I have tried the password recovery and everything. Trust me, everything is correct, but it wont work for me. I cant load a new image to it because I dont have access to a server to get it from.

Im trying to access the switch to reset the password to factory defaults (please see switch output Astrix has removed customer identifying information for security purposes.) Each time I reboot the switch and try and access the password recover mode this same output below starts and im still not able to access the recovery area of the switch

For any still having trouble with the intial config of a CE500 Switch using Windows 7 / Vista...
Sure all of you have heard of the setup button and how to use it, its obvious Windows 7 / Vista do not properly recieve the DHCP, maybe an issue with the some new Microsoft legislation, the install address of the device in its setup phase, which you can read by the setup led burning steadily is 169.254.0.1
You wont be able to connect to this address in Windows 7 / Vista if you configure it statically, you will be able to view the Gratituous ARP from the Device using Wireshark, in the Windows 7 / Vista network adapter tci/ip v4 settings click on the advanced tab, there enter 169.254.0.1 as the default gateway, press the Setup button on the switch, wait for it to blink, connect your utp cable to port 1 check that the Setup LED is burning stable, type 169.254.0.1 into your web browser and enter a management IP address for the switch, alternatively use Cisco Network Assistant.
I try change the configuration the port in the switch catalyst express 500, i need disable switch port port-security, a try with http://10.1.1.1/exec and save configuration with wr command, if a check the configuration de port is correct but i reboot the switch and check the configuration the port appear the switch port port-security configuration again.
I am not sure why the CRC and input errors are increasing in fastethernet port...This port is used as Intradomain cross connect to Data Center service provider for LAN extension between two Data Centers in different locations... The link is 100 MB. The switch port is directly connected to patch panel of DC provider and I believe they have some L3 switch or some other device that is providing LAN extension...

After not seeming to be able to save any configurations in 12.2(25)FX, I thought an upgrade would work since it said it didn't recognize my browser or OS but let me continue. I was able to see everything just couldn't save changes.
I updated to 15.0(1)SE3 and everything seemed to be going well. Tried to log back in HTTP (have not set n IP yet since it is still at my house... DHCP seems to be working) and I get a user/password screen that says level_15_access and it won't let me in.
Attempts to log in terminal have been unsuccessful. I can log in my dell switch which I am replacing and my APC units terminal just fine using USB to serial and Ubuntu.
I tried cisco as a password, user and password, admin, administrator no luck.
What is the best way to resolve this, is there a sure fire windows serial program or settings I should use in linux (currently 9600,8,N,1) to connect? I have looked through manuals till I am blue in the face.
I am experiecing issues with HSRP.I have two 7200 core routers connected via one portchannel layer 2 and i set up the HSRP.The switch 01 is the master and 02 is the bkp.the problem is, the bkp router can´t see the master and there are a lot of loggs with active-speak and can´t see the master. the configuration are ok, i just check and recheck but there are no mistakes. [code] the configurations are ok, but the router can´t see each other, just in the vlan 500 the other vlans are ok.
Don't know if this is right section of NetPro forum to bring up my problem. I have 871 router configured as NTP master. It works as a gateway for a small windows network with a domain controller. I want DC to pull the time from the router and configured the router as follows:
I would like to know if it's possible to change a master in a 3750 stack without rebooting it?I searched in Cisco documentation, in the forum, and I googled it but I didn't find anything.
We have a stack of a 3750E with a 3750X, when we turn off the master, a disconnection occurs for around one minute while only one request timeout is seen when the slave is turned off. Is this normal? Details: in other words, when the slave switch is elected as the new master all the port-channels and some physical ports become in 'down' state before reobtaining the up state again, this results in a one minute outage. The question is: is it normal to have a layer2 control traffic interruption when the master fails and re-election occurs and if yes, what is the normal downtime in seconds. the layer2 control information such as port-channels LACP protocol are not synchronised to all slave switches by the master?
About an hour ago I had the master switch on one of my 3750x (WS-C3750X-48PF-S) stacks crash. The only two items we've found that could have caused this issue are the roughly 1.3 million big buffer misses and several of the following in the syslog
SLT:WARN:No exporter configured for smartlog! I do not have smartlogging turned on, nor is there a netflow exporter configured
sh logging smartlogsmartlog is disabledsmartlog exporter:smartlog pkt length: 64 Total pkts processed: 0Total DHCP Snooping pkts processed: 0Total DAI pkts processed: 0Total IPSG pkts processed: 0Total ACL pkts processed: 0
I did not see any traffic spikes prior to the crash.
This stack has been stable since it's last IOS upgrade from 12.2(58)SE1 to 12.2(58)SE2 back in October 2011 so this has me a little worried.
Setting up NTP. Currently the source for NTP within our network is our core 6500.Currently the NTP source for the 6500 are internet based NTP Servers. I would like to configure the 6500 to respond to NTP messages as the NTP Master. However will the 6500's source remain as the internet based NTP Servers?? In other words if the 6500is configured to be NTP Master, where would it get it's time from?
I have two like switches in a stack (WS-C3750G-48PS 15.0(1)SE2 C3750-IPBASEK9-M). Switch#1 is the master and is the one that needs to be replaced. Can I force Switch #2 to be the master, then power down switch#1, remove switch#1, insert the replacement, and then power on the newly added switch without shutting down or rebooting switch#2?
We have 2 3750 24 port fiber switches in a stack and we would like to change the member to become the master. Both are running the same IOS and they are alive on the network. I read that you can change the who becomes the master by setting the priority number higher on the member, which we did. However this requires a reboot of the member to take effect. Is there a way to force this without having to reboot? One other note, both switches in stack have a single gig connection that goes to the core (6500). One gig link is blocked due to spanning-tree and this is on the member that we want to become the master.
I have a stack of 2960S (c2960s-universalk9-mz.122-55.SE2.bin) and the master has failed (used to have a priority of 14). The second switch has become master (priority 1) as can be seen below: [code]
If I connect a new blank 2960S (same IOS) through the stack ports, will the master sync its config to the new one without causing problems? As I understand the new blank switch will also have a priority of 1 and will by default be numbered as 1. So if the config is correctly synced and I later on want to make switch 1 the master, I need to set the priority: [code]
