Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5505 - Can't Login From Public And Local IP Anymore

Dec 15, 2011

We've a Cisco ASA 5505 connected directly to Verizon FiOS Circuit (ONT) box using Ethernet cable. As per the existing documention that I have, the previous configured this as a dedicated router to establish a seperate VPN connection our software provider. They assigned both Public Static and Local Static IP address. When I try to ping the public IP address, it says request time out; so the public IP address is no longer working.

When I ping the local IP address of 192.168.100.11, it responds. The SolarWind tool also shows Always UP signal. How can I login into this router either from remotely or locally to check the configuration, backup and do the fimrware upgrade?

I also tried to connect my laptop directly to the ASA 5505 router LAN port. After 3 minutes, I'm able to connect to Internet without any issues. However I don't know the IP address to use to login.

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5505 / Site To Site VPN Using Public Addresses On Local Network

Jul 28, 2011

I have a request to establish a site to site VPN with a customer. While collecting the information I give them our local network subnet which is a private subnet (192.168.5.0). They asked me if I could give them a public address instead. They can not work with the 192.168.5 subnet. Is this possible?

My side of the VPN is an ASA 5505 running 8.2(2). The other side i believe is a Checkpoint.

Cisco Firewall :: 5505 PAT With Single Public IP And Several Servers Behind Firewall

Nov 21, 2012

New to the ASA 5505 8.4 software version, but here is what I'm trying to do:

-Single static public IP:  16.2.3.4
-Need to PAT several ports to three separate servers behind firewall
-One server houses email, pptp server, ftp server and web services: 10.1.20.91
-One server houses drac management (port 445): 10.1.20.92
-One server is the IP phone server using a range of ports: 10.1.20.156

Basically, need to PAT the ports associated with each server to the respective servers behind the ASA 5505.  Is anything missing from this config? Do I need to include a global policy for PPTP and SMTP? [code]

D-Link DIR-600 :: Cannot Login To Router Anymore Even After Reset

I have been using d link routers for a very long time. However, recently I have a problem with one of my dlink router..

Basically I have a Wireless N 150 Home Router (DIR-600 B2). I managed to reset and login to the router at http://192.168.0.1. I tried to made some configuration (disabling DHCP, some stuff, basically I was trying to configure this router as Wireless Repeater to connect to another room downstairs).

So it didn't connect so I do a reset (hold a pen for 20+ seconds at the reset button) and now I cant login to the router at http://192.168.0.1..

Cisco Firewall :: Two Public IP Blocks On ASA 5505?

Jan 16, 2013

We have 2 IP blocks from my ISP.  We have been using just one a /30 block with one IP address used on the outside interface of the device.  The new block is a /29 range and I would need to use just two of those IP addresses.  Here is the situation I am facing.A company we partnered with wants to set up a VPN, they will send us 2 Cisco 861s to put behind our ASA.  Is it possible to assign these 861's with public IPs from the block that we are not currently using? (the /29 range)?  I know that it might require an upgrade to the Security Plus.

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5505 Grabbing More Public IPs From ISP

May 2, 2013

The client I am doing work for as ASA 5505 at a remote location that is using Cox Communications for the ISP.  The ISP assigned 5 static IP addresses, but we only need 1 for this location.  However, that is the minimum you get no matter what.  The issue is that the subnet mask is a /25 and what they are telling me is that the ASA is grabbing all the IP addresses in that range.  They asked if there is anyway to keep the ASA from grabbing those IP addresses.  Now, I have never run into this issue before with a provider.  The gateway is in the /25 subnet, so going to a /30 isn't an option.

The laptop is windows, the other two are servers with two NICs.  The interface cards are Intel Pro/1000s.   I've been through everything including Vlan protocol conflicts and actually enabled the servers for 802.1(Q).

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5505 - Public Static IP Address And DMZ

Feb 3, 2013

I have ASA 5505 with basic licence, v9.1, ASDM 7.1. I want to create the DMZ for a web server.

The interface 0 is for the outside network The interface 6 is for the DMZ All other interfaces are for the inside network

My ISP provided me with one public static IP address, one gateway address and a subnet mask 255.255.255.252

1/ I would like to ask which interface I should assign the public static IP address to. Should it be assigned to the outside interface 0, or should it be assigned to the DMZ interface 6, while outside interface would be configured to use DHCP?

I tried to assign the static IP address to the outside interface first, but then when I used ASDM the “Public Servers” feature to configure NAT, I get error message that the outside interface and the public address cannot have the same IP address.

2/ For the sake of peace of mind, I am thinking about using the second firewall, which would be used only for the inside network. Can I connect this second firewall to one of the inside interfaces of the 1st firewall,

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5505 8.4(1) - Map Multiple Inside Hosts Ports To One Public IP?

Jun 22, 2011

I'm stuck at asa 5505 nat, port forwarding configuration Here is what i need:

host1: 192.168.1.1 service tcp/100 >>>>> public ip 1.1.1.1 service tcp/100
host2: 192.168.1.2 service tcp/200 >>>>> public ip 1.1.1.1 service tcp/200
host3: 192.168.1.3 service tcp/300 >>>>> public ip 1.1.1.1 service tcp/300

So people from remote just need to use 1.1.1.1 public ip to access all the ports on three different inside server.I can do this on my old ASA 5505 with 8.0(4). Looks like there're lots of change from 8.0 to 8.4.

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5505 - Local Host Names To DNS Server At Main Site

Mar 3, 2013

I ran into a very interesting problem that occurred today and I'm trying to figure out why it happened. If it was one ASA 5505 that just required the reboot, then I'd have just chalked it up to a glitch, but when we built a new AD/ DNS server on the main network at the main site and changed the 3 Remote site ASAs to point to the new DNS server in the DHCPD options, none of them could ping any local host names to the DNS server at the main site they were now pointing too, but external host names { URL} all translated and pinged fine.

From a laptop on one of the remote sites, we could ping the new AD/DNS server(192.168.0.3) and the old AD/DNS server(192.168.0.2) and everything else at the main site, and telnet to port 53 showed successful across the Easy VPN from the Remote site to the new server at the main site. When wire shark was added to the new DNS server at the main site, the DNS request and replies for {URL}, for example, came and worked fine, but any requests for local resources never made it to the server from the remote sites.

A reboot of one of the Remote Site ASA's corrected the issue. Then I rebooted the other two remote site ASAs, and now DNS was working fine for everybody. I had also tried clearing the ARP cache on the ASAs before resorting to rebooting them. I also tried rebooting the laptop thinking the local DNS cache needed cleared before resorting to rebooting the ASAs. I'm struggling to understand why external, public host names made it through and resolved from the remote sites to the new server at the main site, but anything local failed before even reaching the new server(The new DNS server could resolve requests made by computers at the main site, but the remote sites that traverse the Easy VPN from the ASAs failed).  The new AD/DNS server is the only server configured for DNS for all remote site computers.

Is any of this making sense? I'm wondering if clearing the x late or local host tables would have corrected it without having to reboot. I'm just trying to grasp the understanding here and figure out what happened.

Cisco AAA/Identity/Nac :: 881 SSH Login Using Only Public / Private Key Levels

Mar 10, 2013

I'm trying to make a setup on my Cisco 881 router, but I'm having some trouble.I've managed to configure logging in with a Public-Private key pair over SSH, but it's also still possible to log in over SSH with just a username and password. I'd like to prevent this, if possible. I imagine I might have manually configured this to be allowed at some point, but I can't quite figure out how I did this, as no matter what I've tried to remove, it keeps allowing this option. I still need to be able to log in with a username, because I want users to have different privileges.

Once I've logged in using the Public-Private key, I don't automatically go into privilege mode, even though the user is configured with a privilege level. I'd like to configure that users that I've configured to use a certain privilege mode, automatically go into privilege mode without a password prompt. I know it did this before I started using the Public-Private key (or before I used AAA, which was configured around the same time), so I wondered if it's possible to do this still.

Difference Between Local Login And RDP

Oct 11, 2011

I have a weird issue I have never seen before and am trying to get some answers. I setup a laptop for one of our employees who works out in the field. We typically login to the machine while on the network with a domain account. This is so the password gets cached and they can login to the machine once they receive it. I sent a laptop to this one guy (who is rather tech savvy-so I know it is not user error) and he could not login to the laptop using his network credentials. I was able to get him on his home network using his router, and I RDP'ed into the machine. When I was remotely connected, I was able to login to the PC with no problem. However, after I disconnected, he tried to login also and it kept telling him that the domain was not available? It wasn't even an "invalid password or login" error.I ended up creating another local account on the machine so he could work, but I am stumped as to why he could not login locally, but I could using RDP.

Cisco VPN :: ASA 5510 - Using A Public IP For Local Network

Jul 30, 2012

I am setting up a site to site IPsec connection with a company, something which I have done many times before without trouble. I use ASDM to configure this as it is quick and painless, usually.

We have a number of other site to site connections currently configured and working fine on this ASA, these are configured with the 'Protected network - Local network' configured with the private IP's of the hosts within our network we want to make available through the seperate tunnels. This includes the configuration setting on our ASA for each connection to 'Exempt ASA side hosts from NAT'.

With this new connection however, the company has asked us to use a public IP for the host we want them to reach through the tunnel. I am not sure why  but they demand it. So I added a NAT rule for the inside host, and configured the connection with the public IP under 'Local Network'. When testing to try reach a host on their side, the tunnel does not even attempt to initiate.

I cant see where I am going wrong. I am guessing the 'Exempt ASA side host from NAT' does not require to be set for this, as how else would the ASA know which internal host the public IP relates to.

Cisco VPN :: 5520 - Use Public IP As Local Encryption Network

Mar 5, 2012

We have a Cisco ASA 5520, and we're creating an IPSec VPN to another Cisco ASA.  We have multiple VPNs on this firewall.

The issue with the latest one is they require a Public IP as the Local Encryption Network.  I've seen this question a couple times while searching but never really a definitive answer.

Would using the "Outside-Network" as the local encryption network, then natting the appropriate IPs be sufficient?  Or would this not work at all?

Our Public block is X1.X1.X1.64 - X1.X1.X1.79, our Peer IP X1.X1.X1.66.  Would using X1.X1.X1.64/28 as the local encryption network make the connection?  Then NAT the needed IPs from our DMZ X2.X2.X2.71 as X1.X1.X1.71 to the client?

Would this work or am I way off the mark (I'm by no means an ASA expert, and an ASDM explanation would work over command line).

Edit:  Or would I have to create a new Global Pool made up of Public IPs on a different subnet mask than our actual Public IP address pool.  And make that our Local Encrypted Network?  I think this might be it, but could it cause IP overlapping?  Our webserver is part of this and I'm worried about causing connection issues.

We where expecting the commands to be the same as other iOS devices example C3750 we would add.

Line vty 0 4  login local

And this would allow us to use the local user database to authenticate our ssh sessions.

The login local commands are not availbe on the 6500s and we have not found any documentation on how to impliment a local database for this purpose except in a CatOS 6500.

Cisco AAA/Identity/Nac :: Can't Establish Local Login / Authorization On 6500

Feb 26, 2013

I have a need to allow a small group of users temporary level-15 access to several 6500 switches (running 12.2-33 SXJ2 code), but do not want to provide them with the enable secret password which is used on the rest of the network (over 1200 devices).  I tried to eliminate AAA using the "no aaa new-model" command, but was told I could not remove aaa while there were active sessions, and "login local" no longer appeared as an option for vty lines.  So, I created a local user database called "support" which I used to replace the "group" entry in the authentication and authorization sections of our AAA config and for login on vty 0 4. [The username is given a privilege level of 15 along with an individual password for authentication.  (ex. user name jsmith privilege 15 password 0 xxxxx)] I modified our AAA configuration to support local login, but was unable to establish "enable mode" (i.e. # prompt) with any account.  I can login locally, but only to a normal "user mode" (i.e. > prompt). Here is the current, unmodified and sanitized config for our AAA and line vty 0 4 sections. [code]
