View 3 Replieswe have a scenario that consists of a Cisco 4507 series core switch with more than 20 vlans which is connected to a C2960G switch( in a nearby building) using a trunk by a fiber connection. Up to this point everyhting is fine . VTP domain is configured on the core switch and we have all of the 20 vlans present correctly on the edge 2960G wich is part of course of this same VTP domain.the fiber connection goes from core switch to a "in the middle location" where we have a fiber patch panel that is connected in a jumper style to another fiber patch panel going to the destination building where the C2960G sits.
Now imagine that Fiber connection from this middle location to the destination C2960 edge switch is down for any possible reason meanwhile the fiber connection from Core switch 4507 to the middle location is still intact.In the same time, in this middle location , we do have a wireless connection which links 1 Cisco 3750G switche ( a different infrastructure and different VTP domain) to another C3560G switch which sits on the same Room in the nearby destination building where we have the edge C2960G, An idea came to me is to connect one of the fiber port (core) in the intact fiber patch panel coming from Core switch 4507 TO an access vlan configured switchport in the 3750G switch ( this switchport will belong to a vlan designed only to trasmit the vlans on the trunk coming from 4507 core switch say VLAN 10) then connect one VLAN 10 access switchport to the destination C2960 edge switch ( the switchport on the c2960G is still a trunk)Will this solution work and all of the 20- 4507 core switch vlans arrive to the destination C2960G ? Or we do need something that tags the 2 VLAN 10 switchports like switchport dot1q tunnel like QinQ
I have an issue with my firewall,each time i configured a trunk port in the firewall and connect a sw 2960S with a trunk port also, all the interfaces in the Firewall go down ( virutal intertaces, inside, outside , dmz) , also another switch 3750 that is connected to another port in the firewall( access port only) it start to a new negotiation of spanning tree.What could be causing this problem? the firewall didnt sedn bdpdu i think the IOS of the firewall its a 8.2

View 7 Replies View RelatedI am trying to configure a 3500XL switch (and I know its old). I get to the int fa 0/1 line and thats where it all stops working.

It will show the configuration for port fa 0/1 as if I hadn't entered the "switch port mode access" command. Or any other command for that matter. Why the switch is not holding configuration and seemingly loses it as soon as you exit out of each interface?
I am having difficulty following the logic of the port-translation. Here is the configuration on a 5505 with 8.3,So I would have thought the outside access-list should reference the 'mapped' port but even with 3398 open I cannot remote desktop to the host. If I open 3389 then I can connect successfully.

This won't work for me because there will be NO management access on the data network being bridged through the firewall. Is there any option outside of going to routed mode or moving to the 5510?

I have a 3750g connected to a "core" switch stack of 7 other 3750g's via 2 GigE ports in a trunk. This is currently in a switchport mode access port- channel so only the default vlan data is sent over. Now we have a need due to physical location of these switches, to allow vlan20 (DMZ) from this 3750g to the switch stack. I will configure a few ports on the switch stack for vlan20 and they need to be able to talk to the stand alone 3750g.To do this I will change the port channel on both endpoints to

also making the appropriate change on the interfaces belonging to this trunk.My question is, now that its a trunk port that carries multiple VLANs, how much is the bandwidth reduced on that 2gbps link?I have a very active VLAN (10) on the stand alone switch, but on the core I'm not going to be assigning VLAN 10 to any ports. So does traffic from VLAN10 even come across the trunk (wasting bandwidth) if no ports on the core side are assigned to it? I really just need vlan 1 and 20 (for now).
We have a 5580 that we want to connect to each of our 7K's as an internal firewall. To minimize hassle, we will setup the ASA in transparent mode.I have been working on this all day today and have run into a stopping point. If I put vlan 20 on a subinterface on Te7/0 which will connect to N7K_1 it works great. When I try to put that same vlan on Te7/1 which connects to N7K_2, I get an error that says the vlan is already assigned to another interface.Our local Cisco SE told us that this would work.
My problem is that not all of our servers/systems are dual homed to both 7K's so I have to be able to get this to work because of potential asymmetric routing issues that we will be dealing with.How to get the 5580 to work in this configuration and can you share your config with me ?Using the redundant interface command isnt an option because I need for both interfaces to be able to route over both 7K's at all times.
Currently I have a 4510-48g HP3COM switch as a core switch for my 4 VLAN network (which I hope to send back cause it doesn't do what I wanted it to do... PBR, which is what I need to route specific VLAN's to specific interfaces on the sonicwall,.. cause sonicwall dont understand trunk or spanning tree,. meh!) This may not happen so I've dug out an old CISCO 1800 sdsl router that has 1 FE0 port and 8 other ports, FE 1-8.
The first thing I need to do is get everything to talk to each other. So I plugged the switch into it via its configured trunk port, and configured 4 sub interfaces on the router 1800 and all seemed happy as larry and working. The problem I have is I dont seem to be able to create sub interfaces on the other ports!?

ASA 5505, I got a security plus license which allows multiple VLANs.I want to be able to configure the ASA to allow only RDP session (One way) to another Switch where all the VLANs are. I've attached a pic of what I want but I'm struggling.
I looked at documentation saying you should have inside and outside interface but I'm not sure on this scenario.I've configured inside interface on ASA e0/1 and interface VLANs but not sure what to do between ASA and Switch?
Is there really any reason why you wouldn't use spanning-tree portfast on a trunk port other than a trunk between two switches? We have it enabled on all ports except for the fiber trunk between two non-stacked switches and the trunk ports connected to our Astaro firewall.I'd like to enable it on the ports to the firewall unless that would cause issues.

Then I like to connect a host to my switch, and have it communicate with other devices in VLAN 11 or other vlans that reside on the ASA. Below is the config that I currently have.

I am using 802.1x authentication with multi-domain ports; Phone and PC connected to phone. The phones are Nortel (Avaya) and the PCs are Dell/HP Laptops. All are configured for Certificate authentication and this works well. However we sometimes get some ports stuck in Guest mode. when a non certificated laptop connects to a phone port and fails authentication, the data port is placed in the Guest VLAN. However when the laptop disconnects the port isn't reset and remains in the guest state. When a subsequent good laptop connects and attempts to authenticate the switch ignores this and leaves the data port in the Guest VLAN. he switch is a 2960S with Version 12.2(58)SE2 IOS.

I would have expected the auth function to have reacted to the EAP packets sent by the good client when it connected and performed eap authentication but it didn't, all it did was say the ports in Guest mode and left the laptop in this VLAN.
I do have the below setup,,
1. I have 6509 switch
2. I have 2 WLC configured in Active/Active mode connected in Trunk mode (L2 Port-Channel) connected with 6509 switch
3. On switch side i have configured the port as Trunk
4. L3 SVI for wireless users are created in 6509 switch (attached the diagram).
I would like to introduce a Cisco ASA 5520 firewall with AIp-SSM module so that all wirelees traffic can be inspected.
The issue is: Without changing any configuration in the network (switch & WLC) is it possible to introduce the firewall?

and here is my dilemma.
I can SSH from the internet to my ASA on default port 22, directly to my public IP. I can SSH from the internet to my Cisco 1841 on port 2001. I can not however, SSH to my Cat 2960. From what i can tell, on the Cat2960 i can't change the default port 22 for SSH to different port, just like i did on the Cisco 1841. I looked to see if I can change the default port for SSH on he ASA, it does not look like this is an option.
The bottom line is that i want to be able to SSH to all three devices from the internet. I only have one public IP. As of now, what i can do is only SSH to the ASA on default port 22 directly to the public IP and Cisco 1841 on port 2001. It appears that changing the default SSH port on Cat 2960 is not an option. It also appears that I can't change the default SSH port on the ASA, if i could, i would and then i should be able to SSH to the Cat 2960 on port 22. No matter what i did on the ASA, it always listens on port 22 for SSH connections.

Is it possible for an 5505 ASA to be in transparent mode such as ethernet0/0 outside, ethernet 0/1 inside, and use ethernet 0/2 for syslog only on a seperate network other than the one that 0/0 and 0/1 is using. The tranparent part being on a 192.168.168.X/24 and the syslog server being on say a 10.2.1.X/24 network?

The modem I am going to be getting is the 3800HGV-B. Over on the ATT forum users are stating that the modem needs every MAC of every potential IP. I thought about using it's DMZ Plus mode but I am getting a block of 8 IP's and it doesn't seem to play nice unless it see's 5 different MAC's. Right now I have my 5505 in routed mode so I don't believe it passes the MAC of the client's through. Will the ASA pass the MAC of the client's through to the modem with the appropriate ACL's applied?

I've setup my Cisco ASA 5505 in transparent mode. I have a Cisco 1841 connecting to the ISP (DHCP client) and F0/0 for inside. The 1841 is the DHCP server. I have my ASA 5505 behind the 1841 in transparent mode (Vlan 1 for Outside and Vlan 1 for inside). The router config is good as when you connect a computer straight to the inside interface I get DHCP and can go to internet, no problems what so ever. But When you're trying to go through ASA isn't not working. if I add a ip any any statement to the access list it will work but having an "ip any any" in a access list is like having no firewall at all.

View 2 Replies View Relatedrecently i do some lab about trunking protocol using Layer 3 switch C3560 and layer 2 switch C2960, but i face a problem that i cannot configure trunk port on my C3560 using "switchport mode trunk" command, and after looking for the answer from google i found that i have to "remove" the "auto" mode of C3560 using "switchport mode dynamic desirable" and after that we can enter the "switcport mode trunk" command successfully.
and my question are, whether the "auto" trunk mode in switch layer 3 is a default mode or not? and why i should enter "sw mode dynamic desirable" command before "sw mo trunk" command ?
I am experiencing a problem on a Catalyst 4510 (cat4500-ipbasek9-mz.122-53.SG.bin) with 802.1x configured. Client PCs are connected via a mini desktop switch to a Cat 4510 switched port in multi-auth mode. The configuration of the port follows:

It happens from time to time that the Cat 4510 port stops passing traffic. Reconnecting the mini switch recovers the communication. Client PCs connected to the mini switch seem to be authorized at the moment when the problem occures. The RADIUS Termination-Action attribute is set to RADIUS-Request. The problem is not present if "authentication periodic" is disabled.
I've previously used trunkports and vlans between my ASA and accesspoints, connected directly. Now I want to put a 2960S-24PS-L bewteen. Where should i define the vlans (in the switch or in th ASA?) and what ports to put in trunk mode? (the ones on the switch or the one between the switch and the ASA?)
