Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5520 - Static Route To Inside Interface
Mar 29, 2011
I have inherited an ASA 5520. In doing some auditing of the setup, I have noticed a Static Route that has the inside interface of the ASA as the Gateway IP. I am trying to understand the purpose of this route or why a route would be setup this way.
Example Static Route:
Inside 10.xx.31.0 255.255.255.0 10.xx.xx.10 (10.xx.xx.10 is the inside interface of ASA)

I have a asa 5520 with an outside and backup interface. I am trying to configure two static nat statements from the inside to the outside and backup interface. Here is what I have configured so far.
object network obj-10.1.1.254
host 10.1.1.254
object network obj-10.1.1.254
nat (inside,outside) static 172.25.10.3
I want to also use nat (inside, backup) static 172.25.10.3

Is it possible to assign a static route to an interface and not globally on a ASA 5510 ver 8.3.
I have two links between my offices one for Data via a VPN and one for video traffic which is a secure connection with QOS end to end.
All interfaces are on the same security level of 100 except Outside which is 0.
Office 1 Interfaces ASA 5510
VLAN 1 vOffice1Data 10.40.1.0/24
VLAN 3 vOffice1Video 10.40.2.0/24
VLAN 5 vInterOffice 10.40.5.0/24 (QOS connection Between Offices)
[Code]....
At the moment if I try and access data from VLAN 1 to VLAN 4 it gets to the destination ok going through the static route and over the vInterOffice connection but the problem is VLAN 4 returning the traffic. This fails because there is no static route back to VLAN 1. If I create a static route from Office 2 to VLAN 1 then it will route all my data traffic over it as well.

We already have a subnet defined to inside interface and is in produciton. the default gateway is this interface ip. In that setup now I have to add one more subnet and as the first subnet is been defined in ASA indside interface, I have to assign secondary Ip to the inside interface so that new subnet users can easily reach here and go outside.

I'm trying to attach tacacs server (ACS Version 5.2) in server group on ASA 5520 (Version 8.4). When I test connection in ASDM (Version 6.4) between ASA and ACS it fails. The log message on ASA is:

What access-list or implicit rule may be the reason of denying these packets?

I recently upgraded my 5520 to 9.0.1 IOS. Today I tried to apply a capture to my inside interface referencing a simple ACL and I get this error.
ERROR: Capture doesn't support access-list <capin> containing mixed policies
I also created a capture for the outside interface with a similar ACL and it worked just fine. I can't seem to find anything on the web that gives me a clue to resolving the error above.

We have two sites: 192.168.100.x and 192.168.101.x currently connected via IPsec VPN. On each end we have a Cisco ASA 5505. However, each site also has an MPLS VPN with intentions to move all traffic to this link. Will this work on the ASA? We need to make sure traffic can hit the ASA @ site A on the inside interface and trafiic will forward to the MPLS VPN router which then handles the traffic. Too, will it cause any problems in bi-directional flow between the two sites?

We currently have a setup where users connect to the inside of a firewall using the ipsec client. We are moving them to the anyconnect client but are unable to get it to work, we cannot even get a webvpn page on the inside.
When trying to connect with anyconnect the ASA reports an IKE initiator fail on the inside. and no tcp connection flag. We cannot get any response with Webvpn either I have tried using a different tcp port on webvpn but then the asa denies the traffic even though there are no rules denying.

I have Pix 501 firewall and I'm just configuring the device for "Email Server" to allowing POP/SMTP.
Inside Interface Address: 132.147.162.14/255.255.0.0
Outside Interface Address: ISP provided IP address
My question is can my traffic goes from inside interface to outside interface? (because the inside interface address not from 10.0/172./192.168 private address)Also I'm allowing internet from this email server (132.147.162.14) so what my access list to be configured? and what my subnet mask shoud be there?
Pix(config)#access-list outbound permit tcp 132.147.162.14 255.255.0.0 any eq 80
Pix(config)#access-list outbound permit udp 132.147.162.14 255.255.0.0 any eq 53

I recently added a business cable modem to relieve some of the congestion I was getting on my T1 for our MPLS network. There was an ASA 5510 collecting dust in a closet here and I thought it would be the perfect device for firewalling the traffic coming in from the Cable modem, and handling the routing of our internal MPLS traffic as well. Internet setup was cake. The test laptop I have using the ASA as it's gateway has great internet service but it cannot ping across either of our MPLS networks. I have one MPLS with AT&T and one MPLS with EarthLink. My hope was to use the cable modem as the Default route for all unspecified internet traffic and route our internal MPLS traffic to the cisco 2800 routers that are currently in place for the MPLS. I can ping across the MPLS when I telnet to the ASA, but I cannot ping across the MPLS from the client that is connected to the ASA.
Here's the topology I'm working with

Recently upgraded to an Asa 5512x from a pix 515e. I have an Ipswitch secure MoveIT server on the dmz1 interface that needs to be accessed from both the inside and outside interfaces. I have setup a static nat from the outside to the dmz1 and it works, I can also connect from the inside interface. Now I need the MoveIT server to access the DNS server and email server on the inside interface so it can send notifications. On the pix I just created a static from the inside to the dmz1 using its own IP address - static (inside,dmz1) 192.168.1.7 192.168.1.7 net mask 255.255.255.255. I would then add the access-list to allow. How would I set this up with the Asa 8.6 commands?

I have a Cisco ASA 5505 in our office. We are currently using Interface 0 for outside and 1 for inside. We only have 1 Vlan in our environment. We have two three switches behind the firewall. Today the uplink to Interface 1, to the firewall, on the switch went bad. I want to setup a second inside interface on the firewall and configure it as failover incase this happens again. I want to attach it to the other switch. Can I do this? If so, what do I need to do? would it only be a passive/standby interface?

We use ASDM 6.2 to manage our Cisco ASA 5520 running ASA Software Version 8.2 (1). I just noticed that some static routes have "A-" when you view the static routes with ASDM e.g. A-172.24.0.0 or A-192.168.176.0 (pls see attached print screen). I haven't seen this before and dont know what it means.

I've recently upgraded my old firewall from a PIX to an ASA5505 and have been trying to match up the configuration settings to no avail. I have is that I can't ping the new firewall on it's inside interface, despite having "icmp permit any inside" in the running config. Secondly, the server I have on there ("Sar") can't connect out to the internet.I've included the ASA's running config incase anybody can see if something stands out. I have a feeling it's either not letting anything onto the inside interface, or there is no nat going on. Lastly (and possibly relevant), the firewall is actually going at the end of a vlan, which is different to the firewall's inside vlan number. I don't know if this is actually the problem because the server can't connect out even if connected directly into the firewall.

I am trying to set up my ASA5510 the fail over of ISP when it can't ping three different IP. I create three different tracking to three different IP using sla monitor & track rtr. But when I do
route isp2 0 0 yy.yy.yy.yy 50
route isp1 0 0 xx.xx.xx.xx 31 track 1
route isp1 0 0 xx.xx.xx.xx 32 track 2
route isp1 0 0 xx.xx.xx.xx 33 track 3
the last route will replace the previous two and only the last route command takes effect. Is there anyway I can set up the fail over to ISP2 only when it can't ping three different IP from ISP1?

I am trying to configure a server(192.168.5.50) in DMZ(192.168.5.0/24) to be able to communicate with a domain controller(10.5.44.220) in the inside network(10.5.44.0/24). I made some configuration using ASDM(not familiar with the CLI) but not working and it caused existing NAT not to work, for example RDP(TCP 3389) connection to 38.96.179.220
The things I am trying to achieve are
1. two way commucation between 192.168.5.50 in DMZ and 10.5.44.220 in Inside for SecureAuthPorts and SecureAuthOutbound service groups
2. NAT for 192.168.5.50 mapping 38.96.179.50 for the service groups mentioned above
3. NAT for other hosts already existing

I am trying to upgrade a Cisco ASA over an IPSEC VPN tunnel. My FTP server is on the remote side of the VPN tunnel but I am initiating connections from the inside interface of the firewall. I am currently managing the Firewall over the VPN via it's inside interface (using the management-access inside) command. When I try and update via FTP, the connection is going straight out the outside interface (and not across the VPN tunnel) I have tried upgrading via TFTP but it keeps stopping randomly with (unspecified error) I normally upgrade via FTP though but it's not working in this instance. Essentially what I am asking, is is there an equivalent command for FTP that there is for TFTP: tftp-server interface ip anyconnect I need the connections to originate from the inside interface so they traverse the VPN. I am running 7.2.3?

I have a handheld device that will be used for inventory outside of our office. It has 3g capabilities. Is there anyway I can permit traffic from this device from the outside world coming into my network? I need to open a couple of ports so it can hit the server. But I have no intention to open these ports up to the entire world. I use an ASA 5520 with a managed router from our provider. I looked around on the Cisco site and the only information I found was for permitting and denying traffic from devices that are within the network.

I will also use this to manage the ASA. I am having a problem with the network configuration of the inside interface as I can't ping the gateway and/or the in IP of the inside interface.Do I need to add any routes?
