Cisco Firewall :: ASA5505 Using Outside Interface To Connect To Multiple Machines Inside
Oct 28, 2011
I have been working on a configuration for single IP address (on outside ) of ASA5505.I am trying to utilize the outside address 192.168.0.249 to PAT/NAPT to 10 inside machines [code]
What I am not sure of (actually that could be considered all encompassing) is the mapped services/real services.Any constructive comments assistance?

I've recently upgraded my old firewall from a PIX to an ASA5505 and have been trying to match up the configuration settings to no avail. I have is that I can't ping the new firewall on it's inside interface, despite having "icmp permit any inside" in the running config. Secondly, the server I have on there ("Sar") can't connect out to the internet.I've included the ASA's running config incase anybody can see if something stands out. I have a feeling it's either not letting anything onto the inside interface, or there is no nat going on. Lastly (and possibly relevant), the firewall is actually going at the end of a vlan, which is different to the firewall's inside vlan number. I don't know if this is actually the problem because the server can't connect out even if connected directly into the firewall.

I have ASA5505 configured with internal network as 192.168.15.0 and default gateway 192.168.15.1 From the inside network, i'm able to access internet and able to ping all website (enabled ping). and all internel network devices can ping each other. Except i cannot ping my gateway (ASA5505) 192.168.15.1. I'm continously seeing this message on the log, when i tried to ping.. How to fix this?
Denied ICMP type=8, code=0 from 192.168.15.xxx on interface inside
replace xxx with my network devices that try to ping the gateway..I dont want outsiders ping my gateway, i need ping for inside internal network only.

I am trying to access and ping the inside interface of a ASA5505 from a remote network. From the remote network, I am able to access anything on the local network, but the ASA5505 inside interface. The 2 networks linked by a fiber link which have a transport network on another interface. From the remote network, I am able to ping the transport network interface IP, but I would like to be able to ping the inside interface IP. When I do a packet tracer, I get a deny from an implicit rule. How can I achieve that?
Here are the subnets involved and the ASA5505 config.
Remote network : 10.10.2.0/24
Local network : 10.10.1.0/24
Transport network : 10.10.99.0/24

The ASA device is going to be the gateway for multiple distinct inside IP subnets. We can have have a unique outside IP address to correspond to each inside IP subnet if needed, but we need some means for a VPN client or a site-to-site VPN to have acess to a pre-definied IP subnet (i.e. if customer A establishes a VPN connection, they have connectivity to IP subnet X; customer B establishes a VPN connection, they have connectivity to IP subnet Y, etc.).Currently, the two inside IP subnets are 10.10.0.0/16 and 10.20.0.0/16. We will be adding more. The problem we are facing is that we cannot reach the VLAN 201 from the ASA we believe this is because. I have setup two addresses on port 0/1 Vlan1, 10.10.20.2 and 10.20.20.1 as an alias. How can we make traffic for the 10.10.0.0/16 subnet untagged and traffic for the 10.20.0.0/16 subnet tagged for VLAN 201.

I currently have an out of the box ASA5505 and need to change the internal interfact from 192.168.1.1 to 10.20.3.1 so it fits in with the rest of the network.Tried using the ASDM Startup wizard (via 192.168.1.1) and it just seems to hang on "delivering the commands to the device".

I have Pix 501 firewall and I'm just configuring the device for "Email Server" to allowing POP/SMTP.
Inside Interface Address: 132.147.162.14/255.255.0.0
Outside Interface Address: ISP provided IP address
My question is can my traffic goes from inside interface to outside interface? (because the inside interface address not from 10.0/172./192.168 private address)Also I'm allowing internet from this email server (132.147.162.14) so what my access list to be configured? and what my subnet mask shoud be there?
Pix(config)#access-list outbound permit tcp 132.147.162.14 255.255.0.0 any eq 80
Pix(config)#access-list outbound permit udp 132.147.162.14 255.255.0.0 any eq 53
Pix(config)#access-group outbound in interface inside

I am very new to Cisco ASA and I am trying many days to implement the design below but still cannot get it done. The situation I am facing is
- a host (e.g. 192.168.5.10) under Inside interface can contact to outside without any problem.
- however a host outside (e.g. in VLAN1 or outside this network) cannot contact host under Inside interface. I am using PING test and always get Request Time Out. [code]

Let me start by saying that I'm just starting to study for CCNA, so the ASA seems to be a bit above me yet. The ASA's we are using is for VPN to our corporate office and only allowing access to our Citrix environment, so no direct internet allowed. We have a person who works in the remote office who has need for a caption telephone that requires direct access to the internet. The phone only supports DHCP, and getting the ASA to do an ARP reservations is proving difficult. For now I wrote an access list to allow it's DHCP address out but it still isn't working. The access list I wrote is:
access-list 101 extended permit ip host xxx.xxx.xxx.124 any log
access-list 101 extended permit ip any any
access-group 101 out interface outside
When I do a show access-list I'm seeing that traffic is hitting the access list as the hit counter has increased. When I do a show conn I'm seeing one of the IP's that the phone should have access to, however the flags are: saA, so I'm assuming they are not getting a response. According to the manufacturer, only outbound connections are needed, no incoming ports required. All traffic is TCP.

The ASA5505 I am working with has this from the show version:
Licensed features for this platform:Maximum Physical Interfaces : 8VLANs : 3, DMZ Restricted Inside Hosts : 10Failover : Disabled VPN -DES : EnabledVPN-3DES-AES : Enabled VPN Peers : 10WebVPN Peers : 2Dual ISPs : Disabled VLAN Trunk Ports : 0
This platform has a Base license.
Does the Insides Hosts :10 line mean that only 10 devices can be connected to the firewall at one time? I would like to connect an AP to one of the PoE ports and have possibly more than 10 connected. Is this possible with this ASA5505?

Laptop<===>ASA5505
Connected is the Laptop at Ethernet 0/2 Inside
My running-config is a clear config, only VLAN 1 has a IP and Ethernet 0/2 is up.
But If I try to ping to the Laptop I get the followed:
asa5505# ping 192.168.1.100
Type escape sequence to abort.
Sending 5, 100-byte ICMP Echos to 192.168.1.100, timeout is 2 seconds:

Success rate is 0 percent (0/5)
asa5505#
From the Laptop to the ASA5505 I can Ping successfully.

I'm trying to make a very plain and simple network with the ASA 5505, I've strated from scratch over a dozen times triyng to find where I'm going wrong. My main goal is to simply create an IPSec VPN connection to my ASA 5505 and simply ping and connect to devices with the "inside network", so far I can easily create and establish a IPSec VPN Connection, but up to this point, I cannot successfully ping or access a single device on the ASA 5505 inside network.I've taken, create the IPSec profile with the ASDM wizard, add exemption for the VPN IP Pool, add access-list from this Cisco link, url...All this and I can't make a single connection to the inside network. Using an ASA5505, have 1 static outside address, want to access an inside SBS-Server on SMTP, RDP (3389), HTTPS and port 987
Have configured network object nat rules using the asdm, SMTP works (I can telnet to the server on port 25 from outside), however for some reason I can not telnet inside and out on port 25, so outgoing mail does not work. RDP does not seem to work from outside, 987 I havent tested from outside. When I try to create a network object nat rule for https I get this message from the ASA:
[OK] object network SBS-HTTPS
object network SBS-HTTPS
[ERROR] nat (inside, outside) static interface service tcp https https
NAT unable to reserve ports.

All internal users are configured to use Outlook for their webmail. Here the problem is with outlook they are unable to send and receive the mails.
If they directly connected their system using public ip( Directly from ISP) they able to send and receive mails from outlook.

NAT command on 8.4? I am trying to PAT multipule Inside subnets to an IP address. With the example I found I can only PAT one subnet. If I do it the way I have below, it will end up with the last subnet (3.3.3.0) stay in the config. What is the best way of doing it? I have about 20 inside subnets I need to PAT.
object network obj-Inside-sub1
subnet 1.1.1.0 255.255.255.0subnet 2.2.2.0 255.255.0.0subnet 3.3.3.0 255.255.0.0nat (inside,outside) dynamic 199.246.5.2

I'm trying to get my ASA 5505 (IOS 8.4) to work, but got stuck on NAT because I would like to allow 3389 access for just a couple of WAN IP's. This is what I found so far:
(config)# object network Internal_RDS(config-network-object)# host 192.168.1.10
(config-network-object)# nat (inside, outside) static interface service tcp 3389 3389(config-network-object)# exit
(config)# access-list inbound permit tcp any object Internal_RDS eq 3389
(config)# access-group inbound in interface outside
But this will allow all WAN IPs to access 192.168.1.10 over port 3389 I guess? I would like to allow only some WAN IP's

I have a Cisco ASA 5505 in our office. We are currently using Interface 0 for outside and 1 for inside. We only have 1 Vlan in our environment. We have two three switches behind the firewall. Today the uplink to Interface 1, to the firewall, on the switch went bad. I want to setup a second inside interface on the firewall and configure it as failover incase this happens again. I want to attach it to the other switch. Can I do this? If so, what do I need to do? would it only be a passive/standby interface?

I have an ASA 5505 running 8.2(1), that is configured with three interfaces as follows:
Inside (security 100) 10.0.0.0 /24
Inside 2 (security 100) 192.168.0.0 /24
Outside (security 0) internet
Inside is connected to my internal network, inside 2 is connected to the network of a sister organization, outside is outside.
I'd like to be able to route between from inside to inside 2, and have NAT translate me to inside2's address.
I have inter-interface traffic configured, and when I use a NAT exemption, I can route fine. But the resources on network 2 must see my request as coming from the inside2 interface IP.

Subnet is 255.255.255.248. If we assign 10.10.10.46 to the outside interface how do we accept inbound traffic from the other addresses?

I am trying to get two external addresses to PAT to different ports on the same address in the dmz.
Object NAT is configured as follows:
object network Obj-192.168.1.20-1
nat (dmz, outside) static Obj-External-1 service tcp https https
object network Onj-192.168.1.20-2
nat (dmz, outside) static Obj-External-2 service tcp 2000 https
Obj-192.168.1.20-1 and Obj-192.168.1.20-2 contain the same host address.
The idea being that traffic destined for Obj-External-1 on port 443 will be forwarded to Obj-192.168.1.20-1 on port 443. Traffic for Obj-External-2 on port 443 will be forwarded to Obj-192.168.20-2 on port 2000.
Traffic for the first object, Obj-192.168.1.20-1, works but traffic for the second does not.

I have not been able to get any traffic between the interfaces. With the current setup it was not a major problem. With the new setup it will be a major problem.
Below is a sanitized version of the config.

I have three public IP:s from /24 network like 83.x.x.10, 83.x.x.25 and 83.x.x.41 all using netmask 255.255.255.0.
I'm using 83.x.x.10 on ASA outside interface and trying to do static nat for inside servers with those other IP:s, but not yet solved it.
Using Cisco ASA 5505 software v9.02
Config:
object network obj_guest
nat (guest,outside) dynamic interface
object network obj_any
nat (inside,outside) dynamic interface
object network w2008
host 192.168.1.10
[code]....
This works other networks that are like whole network with /29 mask and have router in front of ASA using bridge. But in my case i just have DSL modem bridged in front of ASA. This static nat works like should if i use like Zywall USG series fw and this same configuration works in my customers, but they have those scenarios i said having mask /29 and router in front...
It seems that the problem is in ASA, like i won't show those public IP:s to public router from my operator. Because if i roll those other public IP:s on my ASA:s outside interface: i will use 83.x.x.25 and 83.x.x.41 on outside interface and after that put back my original 83.x.x.10 then my static nat is working just fine, atleast few hours, but not in next morning because ISP router flushes ARP cache.

I am trying to upgrade a Cisco ASA over an IPSEC VPN tunnel. My FTP server is on the remote side of the VPN tunnel but I am initiating connections from the inside interface of the firewall. I am currently managing the Firewall over the VPN via it's inside interface (using the management-access inside) command. When I try and update via FTP, the connection is going straight out the outside interface (and not across the VPN tunnel) I have tried upgrading via TFTP but it keeps stopping randomly with (unspecified error) I normally upgrade via FTP though but it's not working in this instance. Essentially what I am asking, is is there an equivalent command for FTP that there is for TFTP: tftp-server interface ip anyconnect I need the connections to originate from the inside interface so they traverse the VPN. I am running 7.2.3?

I'm stuck at asa 5505 nat, port forwarding configuration Here is what i need:
host1: 192.168.1.1 service tcp/100 >>>>> public ip 1.1.1.1 service tcp/100
host2: 192.168.1.2 service tcp/200 >>>>> public ip 1.1.1.1 service tcp/200
host3: 192.168.1.3 service tcp/300 >>>>> public ip 1.1.1.1 service tcp/300
So people from remote just need to use 1.1.1.1 public ip to access all the ports on three different inside server.I can do this on my old ASA 5505 with 8.0(4). Looks like there're lots of change from 8.0 to 8.4.

the inside interface on our primary ASA seemed to "hang". It dropped all the packets it received. Because the interface didnt go down, failover didn't happen. Device's info;
-Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance Software Version 8.2(3)
-Device Manager Version 6.3(3)
-Hardware: ASA5550, 4096 MB RAM, CPU Pentium 4 3000 MHz
-Internal ATA Compact Flash, 256MB
-BIOS Flash Firmware Hub @ 0xffe00000, 1024KB
I attached a capture picture shows that traffic didnt go to the roof when the issue happened. Why the interface would "freeze" randomly?
