Cisco Infrastructure :: 2509 - Create The Virtual Com Ports On Windows And Linux Machines?

Sep 5, 2011

I recently acquired a 2509 router that I plan to use as a serial device router.  My question is, how do you create the virtual com ports on Windows and Linux machines to point to the TCP address:ports in the 2509 router?  Is there software or drivers that do this?  Or something third-party?

Lost Internet Connection With My Virtual Machines

Implement the procedures required so that machine 1 and machine 2 can communicate statically with one another. Outline the TCP/IP settings to be used on each of the machines and set this machine up accordingly.

I followed this guide [TUT] Setting a static internal IP (Windows and Linux)but what has happened is that now the two machines can't connect to the internet.

Connect Windows XP Machines Together Without Domain

Oct 26, 2011

I have 3 machines running windows XP, they all belong to my company's domain. These machines have to leave our office but still have to be able to connect to each other and share a few folders on each. I used to do this all the time. I would make sure to turn on the "Server" service, set the windows firewall to allow File and Printer sharing, set the File and Printer sharing setting in the Local Area Connection properties, and set the proper sharing/security of the specific folder. Then as long as each machine used a specific local logon name that was the same on each machine, they would all connect to the shares and work perfectly. However now, I seem to not be able to get any of this to work on machines that have service pack 3. Is there something in sp3 that breaks this?Isn't there a way to still share files on these sp3 machines even though I'm not on the domain? (without changing the domain membership)

Cisco :: 5508 Virtual Machines With Bridged Connection / No IP From DHCP?

May 31, 2011

We are experimenting with virtual machines running on some laptops here as part of a future deployment.Equipment in use:

-5508 WLC
-1262 LWAP

The actual operating system has no issues connecting to the wireless. When you start the virtual machine on any client machine (OSX, Win 7, Win XP, anything) it is unable to get an IP through an external DHCP server when the VM is set up to use a bridged connection. This works fine with Autonomous access points and over cable all mapped to the same VLAN. Helper addresses are configured on the VLAN.Is this a limitation of the WLC where it cannot provide more than one IP address per MAC? Is it a limitation of CAPWAP? Or is there an option to turn of DHCP snooping (which I suspect to be the cause of the issue)?

XP Machines Unable To Connect To Windows 7 Shares

Jan 26, 2011

I have a Windows 7 machine sending shares across the network. Other Windows 7 machines have no problems connecting, but XP machines cannot connect. (Win7 can connect to XP shares).

I have adjust every setting that I have seen to no avail. This includes turning off HomeGroups, turning off password. Removing my password from my user account. Adding "Everyone" to each of the shares. I have even messed with the Local Group Policy Editor to send unencrypted passwords to third party SMB's.

Windows 7 - Connect Virtual Machine To Host Via IEEE1394 / USB Or Serial Port

May 15, 2013

I have a host machine (Laptop, Win 7 Home Premium x64) running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on VMWare Workstation 9. I've got this system set up for UMDF driver development, because I need a target machine to debug drivers on. However, because I'm developing drivers for Win 7 (x86 and x64), I cannot connect to the virtual machine on via a simple network connection. Connection methods are outlined here.

I have tried a few different pieces of software (mostly Eltima software), and have Google'd every combination of phrases that I can think of. I can't find any information on this anywhere. I don't just need to share data between the machines, I need a more "physical" connection.

Does any know how to do this, or if there's another (preferably more simple) way of doing it?

XP Pro Machines Can't Access Data On Windows 7 PC

Jan 18, 2011

I'm having problems in a mixed XP Pro (SP3)/Win 7 Pro (64 bit) network getting the XP machines to access data on the Win7 box. The XP machines are connected wirelessly to a D-Link DSL-2640R router modem and the Win7 machine is connected via an Ethernet cable.

Internet access from all machines works perfectly. The two XP machines can see each other either via mapped drives or My Network Places and can access files. The Win7 PC can access data on both the 2 XP machines. All machines are part of the same Workgroup and the network is set up as 'Office' on the Win7 machine. The XP machines can see the Workgroup, including the Win7 machine after I changed the network type from Home to Office, but can not access the data on it.I assume this is a permissions problem on the Win7 machine. I've made the root directory of the HD in the Win7 machine shareable as \Hppro3125hd via Advanced Sharing/Properties and in the Advanced Sharing tab I have set the permissions for Everyone to Full Control.

There is only one user (Garry) explicitly set up on the Win7 machine. I've tried connecting to the Win7HD via a mapped drive on each of the XP machines by logging on as a different user i.e. matching the user name from the Win7 machine but still no joy.Is there an easy to follow step-by-step guide to lead me through the necessary steps to allow the XP machines to access data on the Win7 box?

Internet Connection Dropping By Windows 7 Machines Only?

Feb 4, 2011

I recently added two Win7 computers to my ethernet network (one replaced an older computer, the other has brought the total to 4 machines). The original 2 workstations (XPpro) are fine, but the 2 new Win7 computers intermittently lose internet connection. They remain on the network, just lose internet. The 2 that are having the problem are wired directly to the first router, Linksys WRT160N. The 2 XP computers, that work perfectly, are wired 150 feet away, attached to a Linksys WRT54G used as an access point. The problem is much more severe on one of the new machines, with Win7 Home Deluxe - it stays offline about half of the time. The other, Win7 Pro, is occasionally waxed for 5 or ten minutes. Both use the Win7 default firewall & settings, I've added Avast free anti-virus but no additional firewall software. I have not noted any error messages other than the red X on the networking diagram, and the browser can't find page

Networking :: Linksys WRT320N - Use Hostname To Connect To Machines On LAN TG585v7

Jul 27, 2011

I have just had my broadband upgraded to FTTC which means my router has had to change. Previously I was using a Thomson TG585v7 ADSL thingy provided by my ISP. One nice thing about that router was that it would act as a local DNS and allow me to find my other machines on the network by using <hostname>.lan instead of IP addresses.

I've now switched to a Linksys WRT320N ethernet router which connects to my fibre modem, and which I've updated to the latest firmware (1.0.04). I have 2 machines on the network which I regularly want to connect to each other; one is running Windows 7 and the other is running OS X Lion.

The problem I'm having is that I'm unable to connect to my Win7 machine from the OS X machine using the Win7 machine's name. However, I'm able to ping the OS X machine from my Win7 machine using the hostname.

I have and 880 W router.  The LAN members can get out t o the internet.  Now I want to configure NAT such that outside computers can access a couple of the machines using Remote Desktop (RDP).  I am using Configuration Professional.

When I configure inside to outside, the remote computers can't connect to the target machines. When I configure outside to inside, the target machines acn't get to the internet.

When I try to use the advanced NAT definition wizard, I can't complete the task because the only inside pool (?) or LAN (?) is "designated" and not available to select.  I can't free it up without deleting the one working NAT entry which is the one that enables all computers to reach the internet.

Multiple NIC Segregation In Windows?

I'm in a shop that requires our workstations to have two NICs. One attaches to a router and through to a DCHP internet connection. The other is a static IP via crossover to our instrumentation system. The issue is that these systems can be extremely remote and rely on satellite or 3G Network connections and are not overly reliable. Every time our net connection drops, BOTH NICs reset, causing us data loss from our instrumentation. Any way to separate the connections so that if one drops, the other is left unmolested?

Can't See Multiple Work-groups In Windows 7

Oct 24, 2011

As we all know, MS has changed the default workgroup names in different versions of windows. Additionally, you can rename your workgroup anything you like. I have XP, Vista, and Win7 computers, a television, BluRay player, a Wii, two printers, and a NAS with two USB drives attached. All of these -except the Win7- are wired to one of two switches. I have wireless: iPad, the Win7 notebook, Nintendo DSs. I have friend, and non-friend machines (computers, tablets, and phones) that come and go that are wired or wireless. The 3 windows computers all have the same workgroup name. All of my other units do not use workgroup names. I have a router, and two unmanaged switches, and have, on occasion, a second router. The main router, which has wired, and dual band wireless (each with two named wireless networks) nets, sees everything, by name and/or MAC address. Win7 is blind, deaf, and dumb.: it shows its own workgroup name, but no other workgroup name(s) , and, consequently, no unit on these other workgroups. It will show some wired units not in a workgroups - the television, and the printers (not the Wii or NAS). It will not show the wired XP computer! No wireless units either in workgroups or not in workgroups appear. Additionally, Win7 only shows units on its wireless network, not on the other three. The wired units it does show are not on any of the wireless networks, though it lists them on its wireless network.I have left the Homegroup, and terminated the Homegroup services. I have allowed discovery, and unlimited sharing of everything on every computer on the router, and yet the Win7 unit does not share or see well at all. Why?
