Networking :: Linksys WRT320N - Use Hostname To Connect To Machines On LAN TG585v7

Jul 27, 2011

I have just had my broadband upgraded to FTTC which means my router has had to change. Previously I was using a Thomson TG585v7 ADSL thingy provided by my ISP. One nice thing about that router was that it would act as a local DNS and allow me to find my other machines on the network by using <hostname>.lan instead of IP addresses.

I've now switched to a Linksys WRT320N ethernet router which connects to my fibre modem, and which I've updated to the latest firmware (1.0.04). I have 2 machines on the network which I regularly want to connect to each other; one is running Windows 7 and the other is running OS X Lion.

The problem I'm having is that I'm unable to connect to my Win7 machine from the OS X machine using the Win7 machine's name. However, I'm able to ping the OS X machine from my Win7 machine using the hostname.

Networking XP Machines - Can't Log In?

Feb 22, 2011

Running Windows XP Im a bit Dizzy as i can't seem to workout what's going wrong or what im doing wrong lol!!!8 Pc's on the network, all can view files etc.apart from one Pc Lets just call this "Bob1"It keeps asking for user name and password, now there's no user name or password on the giving pc, file and sharing is open and all the right ports giving. what i can't understand is that the reaming 7 pc's on the network has the same setup and files permissions, on the same subnet and can ping each other to my knowledge.So just to prove myself wrong i made a password for the pc that was asking for one on the network and this still did not work.so to cut the story short 7 pc's can search each other fine but on "Bob1" keeping asking for user name and password.

Can't Connect Wirelessly To Thomson TG585v7?

Oct 25, 2011

Ok I know you have had this question asked before but I think mine is slightly different. So, I have my Thomson wireless router for 2 years now and I've been using it with no problems at all. Suddenly I got dissconnected two weeks ago and it would not let me connect with anything. I could SOMETIMES see my home network in the list but I couldn't connect to it, although I could easily connect to other wireless networks. I tried reseting the router, changing the encryption to WEP and all that few days ago and after several tries I managed to access it (I don't know what happened) but after less than a day the same problem occured and since then I've been trying to reconnect. Yesterday I took it to the local ISP representative and he "fixed" it although I'm sure he just reseted it and changed the ancryption type and the WPA-PSK encryption key(something which I did MANY times before). When I came home I had the same problem with a slight improvement, now I could see my network in the list of wireless networks at all time. When I try to connect, the window "Windows can not connect to .....Diagnose the problem..." pops up.

It automaticly connected few times but once I tried opening the router access IP or any other webpage it just disconnected me. I tried accessing the network with my mobile(wifi) phone and I still couldnt, which made me think in the beggining that the problem is not in my computer. The router is close to my laptop and my laptop is working just fine and can connect to other networks. I've never had such problem before and I'm using the router for 2 years.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Laptop Cannot Connect To Wrt320n

Jul 27, 2012

Just installed linksys wrt320n.  Desktop and one laptop (wireless) connect.  Both windows 7.  A second laptop (Vista) errors out with message "the selected data rate is not correct".  This laptop sees the router (since I see the router name and it validates the passphrase) but I cannot ping the router.  I saw two messages on this site suggesting to enable WMM and use security WPA2.  I have verified that both of these are so set.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT320N - IPad Can't Connect To It

Jul 24, 2011

I have a WRT320N router with firmware version 1.0.01 build 008.  I just got an iPad and while it can find my router, I can't access the WiFi when I enter my password.  I can use the router with my laptop so I know the connection and password are ok.I've seen two administrators on here suggest the same thing.  And one person responded that it worked.  The identical directions were:

Try changing some advanced wireless settings on the router.Connect the computer to the router with the Ethernet cable. Open the setup page of the router.Click on wireless tab and set the configuration view to manual. Change the wireless channel to 11. Save the settings.Go to wireless tab and click on Advanced wireless settings.Change Beacon interval to 75, RTS threshold to 2307 and fragmentation threshold to 2306. Save the settings.Try to connect to the wireless network again and see if that works.

1 - I think my computer already is connected to the router with the Ethernet cable - I mean there is an Ethernet cable attached to both my computer and my router - in slot 1 on the router

2 - the only thing I know how to access is the Linksys EasyLink Advisor.  What and where is the setup page of the router?

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT320N - Devices Only Connect At 54mbps?

Feb 24, 2012

I just installed a WRT320N for someone's home network, with the intent of providing better speed for network printing.

Unfortunately, all four of his n-capable Windows computers will only connect at 54mbps. Four different computers (Win7, Vista, XP), each with a different brand/model of n-capable network adapter.

I suppose I could try setting the wireless to n-only instead of "mixed". However, he's got a couple g-only devices as well, so that wouldn't work.

I tried updating the firmware to latest/greatest - no effect.

Connect Windows XP Machines Together Without Domain

Oct 26, 2011

I have 3 machines running windows XP, they all belong to my company's domain. These machines have to leave our office but still have to be able to connect to each other and share a few folders on each. I used to do this all the time. I would make sure to turn on the "Server" service, set the windows firewall to allow File and Printer sharing, set the File and Printer sharing setting in the Local Area Connection properties, and set the proper sharing/security of the specific folder. Then as long as each machine used a specific local logon name that was the same on each machine, they would all connect to the shares and work perfectly.However now, I seem to not be able to get any of this to work on machines that have service pack 3. Is there something in sp3 that breaks this?Isn't there a way to still share files on these sp3 machines even though I'm not on the domain? (without changing the domain membership)

Linksys Wireless Router :: Cisco EA6500 - Hostname And IP Are Not Reachable?

Feb 22, 2013

I have a big problem with my Cisco EA6500 router. I have a domain that is pointing to my public IP address of the home network. I have various computers and applications that listen on different ports for various reasons on this network. Everything worked fine until a week or so ago when I had to restart the router. The reason was that while I did a routine change (add a Mac filter for wireless) the router stopped responding. After restarting it, I could not access the home computers through the domain name (public IP) while being inside the network. If I try from outside my LAN it works fine but when trying from within the LAN the hostname and IP are not reachable. Also, everything works from inside the LAN if I'm using LAN IPs.

I am hooked up wirelessly to the internet as there is no phone jack in my bedroom, and I experience massive and prolonged lag while playing call of duty 4 multiplayer, which I never had before with my old Thomson modem. My ping also shoots up to about 400 and then 999 while I teleport around the map.

When I try to use the advanced NAT definition wizard, I can't complete the task because the only inside pool (?) or LAN (?) is "designated" and not available to select.  I can't free it up without deleting the one working NAT entry which is the one that enables all computers to reach the internet.

Linksys Wireless Router :: How To Setup WRT320N As Bridge

Aug 16, 2011

I want to setup the following:

Internet through DSL-Thompson TG 789 VN router ---> several yards --> Linksys WRT320N --> wired computer netwerk                                           |             |with   printer
|                                                                                             |
---> Wireless Netwerk -->   laptops / phones       <---     (WAN depending on strongest signal)
|
---> several servers

The Thompson does the DHCP and routing. It is the gateway through the internet, IP 192.168.2.254 (mask 255.255.255.0).I can't replace the thompson since it is delivered by my provider. SSID = BertB I want to achieve that all the compuers / laptops / phone and printer are in one network and can communicate with each other So the only possibility, as far as I can see, is to set up the Linksys as a bridge.

I have to do the following at the Linksys but have some questions as mentioned below:

SSID = BertB (the same)
channel = different from the channel used by Thompson
DHCP = off
IP = fixed (192.168.2.253)
gateway = 192.168.2.254

[code]....

how the thompson and the Linksys will build a connection with each other, or will this happen automatically through the above setup?Do I have to put the mac address of the thompson in the Linksys and/or vice versa?

Generally I get download speeds of 10+ Mbps, but then it slows to about 1 Mbps or less. One time I was only getting 300 Kbps.I'm using a wired connection when this happens, so wireless is not the issue. Also, there is no firmware update available for my router; 1.0.01 was already on it. The only settings that I've changed besides the password are related to the wireless.As soon as I unplug the router and plug it back in, it's fine again for a few days. At first I thought it might be my cable Internet connection, but because I'm not having to reset the cable modem?
