Windows 7 And XP Machines - Network Resource Access?

Jun 20, 2011

We have a Windows 7 machine and two Windows XP machines. We use windows sharing of resources over a cisco wireless network. Sharing works fine on all computers for files and printers, however the DVD/CD Rom drives are not accessible.Sharing is enabled on all of these devices. When we try to access these DVD/CD Rom drives we get the following error message:Windows cannot access //computer name/resource name. You do not have permission to access //computer name/resource name. Contact your network administrator to request access.

XP Pro Machines Can't Access Data On Windows 7 PC

Jan 18, 2011

I'm having problems in a mixed XP Pro (SP3)/Win 7 Pro (64 bit) network getting the XP machines to access data on the Win7 box. The XP machines are connected wirelessly to a D-Link DSL-2640R router modem and the Win7 machine is connected via an Ethernet cable.

Internet access from all machines works perfectly. The two XP machines can see each other either via mapped drives or My Network Places and can access files. The Win7 PC can access data on both the 2 XP machines. All machines are part of the same Workgroup and the network is set up as 'Office' on the Win7 machine. The XP machines can see the Workgroup, including the Win7 machine after I changed the network type from Home to Office, but can not access the data on it.I assume this is a permissions problem on the Win7 machine. I've made the root directory of the HD in the Win7 machine shareable as \Hppro3125hd via Advanced Sharing/Properties and in the Advanced Sharing tab I have set the permissions for Everyone to Full Control.

There is only one user (Garry) explicitly set up on the Win7 machine. I've tried connecting to the Win7HD via a mapped drive on each of the XP machines by logging on as a different user i.e. matching the user name from the Win7 machine but still no joy.Is there an easy to follow step-by-step guide to lead me through the necessary steps to allow the XP machines to access data on the Win7 box?

Windows Cannot Communicate With Device Or Resource?

Aug 7, 2012

I have had clearwire for a few years, about 2 months ago the internet started being weird. It would go slow, only load part of a page or disconnect completely. Now I cant get on at all. Not with my HP laptop, not with my daughters iPad, my husbands HP, ipod and not even if I hook up directly to the router. I have gone through 3 modems and 2 routers trying to fix this, but nothing has changed. When I run a trouble shooter, under "Problems Found", it says, "Windows cannot communicate with the device or resource. (primary DNS server)" I am currently on my computer at another location, every device we have, can get on the internet at other locations.

Windows Can't Communicate With Device Or Resource

Jan 3, 2012

I am trying to set up my computer with my old connection. I use my laptop (acer aspire 5742ZG) and before I moved out it worked like it should have. Then while in the other town I needed to set up my connection, this time by myself (through some sort of interface in 192.168.1.1). Now that I'm back next thing happens: I appear to be online, I am online on skype (can chat, and people chat back) but when it comes to connecting to the internet through the browser or an online game I play it's not responding, as if there is a problem.I use windows 7, so the troubleshooting software reports what's in the title. The problem is not with the connection - 3 computers are connected to it, 2 with cable, 1 wireless. I would use wireless too, but I am too far away from the modem (it's in another house, and I have a long cable which works, posting from the desktop computer connected to it). [Code]

D-Link DIR-655 :: Windows Can't Communicate With Device Or Resource

Oct 9, 2011

Problems have arisen since purchasing a new laptop with Windows 7.  The problem seems erratic.  The laptop connects to file servers on the network, but often cannot connect to the network.  If it connects, often connection is lost when clicking to a new page.Usual error message:  "Windows can't communicate with the device or resource (primary DNS server)"Network  map shows communication lost between ADSL and network.Direct Hard wire connection to internet through ADSL works without issue.  Hardwire connection through DIR-655 same as wireless: erratic, error messages.  This message posted from another wireless router, specifics not known, connected without issue, on-line for 3 hours without problems.

-IP address: no difference between using automatically obtained or assigned IP address

-DNS server: no difference between using automatically obtained or assigned IP address

Router setup numerous times using CD ROM set up program.Firmware updated to the most recent version.Gone to tech support several times; can get the PC to connect and once done, tech support says its working only to disconnect within a few minutes. What must I do to get this DIR-655 router working on a regular basis?

2003 / 2008R2 - Alternatives To Windows System Resource Manager?

i am looking for alternatives to Windows System Resource Manager, as we do not have Datacenter or Enterprise editions of 2003, or 2008/R2 terminal servers. The main problem we have is when a user tanks the entire server with Excel in a workbook that would be more appropriate as an Access SQL database rather than being in Excel.

Access Multiple Local Resource From Web

Sep 20, 2012

I have a few servers and resources on my local network. A Web server,a game server, a ventrilo server, a few ip cameras with web interface, an IR to IP bridge (web interface),a VPN, a few routers throughout the house, etc. I've been wondering how to get access to those devices from the web, in particular to be able to access the web interface of those devices. VPN access is excluded,I want to do it from a browser.Right now my setup is pretty simple: I have a domain name, and my router is set to forward a :80 request to my web server.Same for the VPN and game serves,at their respective ports. However, I need to be able to access the other web interface, and since I cannot assign an external port to each device in the router table and add the port number at the end of my domain name (not possible of course), I need to find a way to access these other web interfaces.I was thinking of setting a webpage on the web server which lists all resources and their links, but I am not sure if it is possible. For example,I create an admin page on my server asking for a login.Once logged in,a webpage appears displaying IPCam1 for example.Clicking on this link would forward to the local ressource,in this case 192.168.x.x:99 (the address of the cam web server)however,I do not know HTML and I am not even sure it is possible.

Connect Windows XP Machines Together Without Domain

Oct 26, 2011

I have 3 machines running windows XP, they all belong to my company's domain. These machines have to leave our office but still have to be able to connect to each other and share a few folders on each. I used to do this all the time. I would make sure to turn on the "Server" service, set the windows firewall to allow File and Printer sharing, set the File and Printer sharing setting in the Local Area Connection properties, and set the proper sharing/security of the specific folder. Then as long as each machine used a specific local logon name that was the same on each machine, they would all connect to the shares and work perfectly. However now, I seem to not be able to get any of this to work on machines that have service pack 3. Is there something in sp3 that breaks this?Isn't there a way to still share files on these sp3 machines even though I'm not on the domain? (without changing the domain membership)

Internet Connection Dropping By Windows 7 Machines Only?

Feb 4, 2011

I recently added two Win7 computers to my ethernet network (one replaced an older computer, the other has brought the total to 4 machines). The original 2 workstations (XPpro) are fine, but the 2 new Win7 computers intermittently lose internet connection. They remain on the network, just lose internet. The 2 that are having the problem are wired directly to the first router, Linksys WRT160N. The 2 XP computers, that work perfectly, are wired 150 feet away, attached to a Linksys WRT54G used as an access point. The problem is much more severe on one of the new machines, with Win7 Home Deluxe - it stays offline about half of the time. The other, Win7 Pro, is occasionally waxed for 5 or ten minutes. Both use the Win7 default firewall & settings, I've added Avast free anti-virus but no additional firewall software. I have not noted any error messages other than the red X on the networking diagram, and the browser can't find page

One thing of note -- it is set up with a static IP and one-to-one NAT on the firewall (sonicwall)When we disable the one-to-one nat on the firewall the server is able to ping out. We do need to keep the one-to-one nat up though -- as it provides access to the site the server hosts

Cisco Wireless :: SG200-8 When Connected To Network / Cannot See Some Machines

I'm pretty sure there is a very simple fix.  When I am connected to my wireless network, I cannot see SOME connected machines.  I feel like I have a domain named incorrectly.  All of the items on my network are new...

Router - Cisco RV180
WLC - Cisco AIR-CT2504-K9
AP - Cisco AIR-LAP1041N-A-K9  <- 2 of these

The AP's are connected to Cisco SG200-8P, as is the 2504.The SG200-8P is connected to a Cisco SF302-8P, which is connected to the RV180 router.i don't have any separate VLANs setup (at least not on purpose)

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5505 / DNS Not Resolving To New Machines On Network After Increasing DHCP?

Aug 14, 2012

I am having a very strange issue with connecting new machines to reach the internet. We have a ASA 5505 which the previous tech configured the DHCP pool to 192.168.1.60 - 192.168.1.110

We ended up reaching our limit which I changed it to: 192.168.1.60 - 192.168.187

Then next day when I arrived to work, our DC was hung from windows updates. Once we got everything back up, every computer currently on the network can reach the internet/VPN tunnels etc. So (continuing with my day) I created a new server in a VM (Hyper-V)I can ping everything internally (even the router) 192.168.1.1, but I cannot resolve DNS. I have configured a static IP, tried Dynamic IP.I have looked for any ACL indicating to block outside the range of the old DHCP pool but no luck.On my local maching I can ping the DNS addresses, but just not on the new server.

Windows 7 No Internet Access On Wireless Network

Feb 29, 2012

my primary source of internet at my house for the passed year is an at&t 3g usb modem (sierra wireless lightning), becuase i live in the middle of nowhere (only other option is satellite). Up until now i've been using a wireless ad hoc network to share the connection with multiple computers. I just purchased a cradlepoint router that is compatible with my usb modem so I can have a "real" wireless network in my house. I set it up yesterday and so far its working great, I have a wii streaming netflix, an android tablet, an iphone and two laptops (running vista, and win7 respectively) currently connected. The problem is my 3rd laptop, also win7. It is my primary computer that I use for business and absolutely essential that its connected to the internet. It (seems) to connect to the wireless network just fine, but gives me a "no internet access" error.

This laptop will connect to other wireless networks: it always connected to the ad-hoc, it will connect to my wifi at work and the network at my boyfriends house, also i just tried it with the verizon 3g mobile hotspot app on my droid and it connected right away. It also works just fine with a wired connection to this router (ethernet). I'm not sure where to start since every other device in my house is working with this network and this laptop will connect to other wireless networks.

ps/ Going through the windows onscreen troubleshooter it will either tell me "there is a problem with your broadband modem" or "There is a problem communicating with DNS server" (but it wont fix it)... and after going through endless google searches, i've done everything thats been suggested so far (making sure dhcp is enabled, powercycling the router/modem, updating drivers, ipconfig release/renew, disabling the firewall).
