One Server Can Only Access LAN Machines?
Feb 14, 2011
One of our servers has lost the ability to access WAN side computers. For example, it can't ping google.com. It can, however, interact with LAN computers. One thing of note -- it is set up with a static IP and one-to-one NAT on the firewall (sonicwall)When we disable the one-to-one nat on the firewall the server is able to ping out. We do need to keep the one-to-one nat up though -- as it provides access to the site the server hosts

I'm having problems in a mixed XP Pro (SP3)/Win 7 Pro (64 bit) network getting the XP machines to access data on the Win7 box. The XP machines are connected wirelessly to a D-Link DSL-2640R router modem and the Win7 machine is connected via an Ethernet cable.
Internet access from all machines works perfectly. The two XP machines can see each other either via mapped drives or My Network Places and can access files. The Win7 PC can access data on both the 2 XP machines. All machines are part of the same Workgroup and the network is set up as 'Office' on the Win7 machine. The XP machines can see the Workgroup, including the Win7 machine after I changed the network type from Home to Office, but can not access the data on it.I assume this is a permissions problem on the Win7 machine. I've made the root directory of the HD in the Win7 machine shareable as \Hppro3125hd via Advanced Sharing/Properties and in the Advanced Sharing tab I have set the permissions for Everyone to Full Control.
There is only one user (Garry) explicitly set up on the Win7 machine. I've tried connecting to the Win7HD via a mapped drive on each of the XP machines by logging on as a different user i.e. matching the user name from the Win7 machine but still no joy.Is there an easy to follow step-by-step guide to lead me through the necessary steps to allow the XP machines to access data on the Win7 box?

We have a Windows 7 machine and two Windows XP machines. We use windows sharing of resources over a cisco wireless network. Sharing works fine on all computers for files and printers, however the DVD/CD Rom drives are not accessible.Sharing is enabled on all of these devices. When we try to access these DVD/CD Rom drives we get the following error message:Windows cannot access //computer name/resource name. You do not have permission to access //computer name/resource name. Contact your network administrator to request access.

Running Windows XP Im a bit Dizzy as i can't seem to workout what's going wrong or what im doing wrong lol!!!8 Pc's on the network, all can view files etc.apart from one Pc Lets just call this "Bob1"It keeps asking for user name and password, now there's no user name or password on the giving pc, file and sharing is open and all the right ports giving. what i can't understand is that the reaming 7 pc's on the network has the same setup and files permissions, on the same subnet and can ping each other to my knowledge. So just to prove myself wrong i made a password for the pc that was asking for one on the network and this still did not work.so to cut the story short 7 pc's can search each other fine but on "Bob1" keeping asking for user name and password.

I am using a linksys router that is generating IP addresses to about 20 machines. The boss wants to block FACEBOOK on all the machines except for two machines? Is this possible? I was thinking even if we block all the machines and get a work around password (only given to the owners of 2 out of the 20 computers).

On my home network, I have several shares on my PC. But I dont seem to be able to even view the shares from other machines. If I put the IP address into an explorer window (\192.168.0.4) on another machine I get the message: "\192.168.0.4 is not accessible. You may not have permission to use this network resouces. contact your network administrator etc etc". So I cannot even bring up a directory list. There are no problems for me connecting to network shares on other machines from this machine that is refusing connections. That has all happened since I reinstalled windows. I reformatted the system partition and since then I cannot get the shares working again (they used to work fine). The shares are in a data partition that was not reformatted. This is really winding me up, as there never used to be a problem, and I cant think of anything else to look into, short of delving into the registry, and I wouldnt know where to look.

I am using Nokia Siemens router. Recently there is an hack on the network. So I changed the security by enabling WPA2-PSK and AES and mac filter enabled. After that two of my roommate machines are not getting connected to WiFi. Even I cant see ssid being detected in thier machines.
how to connect to the machines. I have tried by removing security also but those two machines cant even detect the network being broadcasted by us. But it is detecting other networks(neighbors wifi).

I need to create a network bubble..means..Let say I have 4 machines having IP address 10.1.1.1,10.1.1.2, 10.1.1.3 and 10.1.1.4 (these are not actual IP's, using them just for explaining). These machines are connected to public network. At a given point in time, I need to isolate these machines from the public network in a way where - All these 4 machines can talk to each other using the assigned IP's. - These 4 machines cannot talk to any other nodes in the public network. no other machines outside these 4, will be able to ping these machines.

I have a 9 PC LAN running in my office, it's only a small business and I maintain it myself.Current setup is Windows Advanced Server 2003 setup as the Domain Controller with Active Directory, logging into that are up to eight Windows XP machines. What I am after doing is having all 8 XP clients take their time from the Server (regardless of the user that logs on) rather than running their own times, to ensure they all stay in sync.

I have 3 machines running windows XP, they all belong to my company's domain. These machines have to leave our office but still have to be able to connect to each other and share a few folders on each. I used to do this all the time. I would make sure to turn on the "Server" service, set the windows firewall to allow File and Printer sharing, set the File and Printer sharing setting in the Local Area Connection properties, and set the proper sharing/security of the specific folder. Then as long as each machine used a specific local logon name that was the same on each machine, they would all connect to the shares and work perfectly. However now, I seem to not be able to get any of this to work on machines that have service pack 3. Is there something in sp3 that breaks this?Isn't there a way to still share files on these sp3 machines even though I'm not on the domain? (without changing the domain membership)

I have three machines that run dos5 and are unable to be networked (for various reasons). I am able to print the screen of each system but I want to share a printer amongst all of them. As it turns out they are on completely seperate sides of the room and a way to setup a seperate computer to act as a print server allowing me to do the following:
DOSBOX-->parallel port-->printserver(computer)-->ethernet port-->networked printe.
My goal is to move the printer to a different room too.

I am wondering if I can log all activity on my network. Right now I can log activity with MAC addresses, but if I add a device I have to keep adding MAC address. I also have to have several policies because I can only put about 7 MAC address in per policy.
I noticed the option to add 'other machines' and I am not sure how this works. I have tried it and can't get it to work.

The outside server is a MAC mini. Any machine outside the server can see the file shares (regardless if they are a Mac or a Windows PC - So I know that SMB is set-up properly). How can I get the inside servers to see the file shares on the outside machine?

Implement the procedures required so that machine 1 and machine 2 can communicate statically with one another. Outline the TCP/IP settings to be used on each of the machines and set this machine up accordingly.
I followed this guide [TUT] Setting a static internal IP (Windows and Linux)but what has happened is that now the two machines can't connect to the internet.

Once again the sun sinks into its nightly reprieve; for the third time since I first set out on this mission. Before me, only the piercing glows of monitors that sting my eyes. Yet, I cannot look away. The clacking of keys, once triumphant battle drums of purpose, has grown sharp. They pierce my ears and my mind. It would be madness to continue. My body is weak. My resolve is waning. My sanity ...... tenuous. But if seeing this through means madness.....bring on the madness.
I'm trying to find a way to network my desktop (wired) and my laptop (wifi) so that I can swap files between the two easily. I've mostly been attempting this through Windows Homegroup, although I've also downloaded and installed TeamViewer. The thing is, the two just will not connect. After much poking around I found the specific symptom to be that wired connections and wireless connections refuse to speak. My laptop sees my roomie's laptop easily enough, though. And if I hardline my laptop to the router suddenly their best friends! - joining each others' Homegroup, swapping files, trading recipes!
Points of interest: I've noticed that, while both are enabled, only IPv4 connectivity indicates internet access; IPv6 says No Internet Access. Pings from one machine to the other result in "Request timed out" or "Destination Host Unreachable." I've disabled firewalls - Windows and the one on the router. Disabled and then uninstalled anti-virus. I've updated the router firmware and net adapter drivers I tried restoring router to factory settings, in case I changed something I shouldn't have along the way. I've alternated static and dynamic ip addresses - no difference there. I've just spotted a couple of errors in the Event Viewer that look like they could be leads;(!)ErrorDhcp-Client The IP address lease 192.168.2.2 for the Network Card with network address 0x6CF049E337F0 has been denied by the DHCP server 192.168.2.1 (The DHCP Server sent a DHCPNACK message).

I have a Windows 7 machine sending shares across the network. Other Windows 7 machines have no problems connecting, but XP machines cannot connect. (Win7 can connect to XP shares).
I have adjust every setting that I have seen to no avail. This includes turning off HomeGroups, turning off password. Removing my password from my user account. Adding "Everyone" to each of the shares. I have even messed with the Local Group Policy Editor to send unencrypted passwords to third party SMB's.

I recently added two Win7 computers to my ethernet network (one replaced an older computer, the other has brought the total to 4 machines). The original 2 workstations (XPpro) are fine, but the 2 new Win7 computers intermittently lose internet connection. They remain on the network, just lose internet. The 2 that are having the problem are wired directly to the first router, Linksys WRT160N. The 2 XP computers, that work perfectly, are wired 150 feet away, attached to a Linksys WRT54G used as an access point. The problem is much more severe on one of the new machines, with Win7 Home Deluxe - it stays offline about half of the time. The other, Win7 Pro, is occasionally waxed for 5 or ten minutes. Both use the Win7 default firewall & settings, I've added Avast free anti-virus but no additional firewall software. I have not noted any error messages other than the red X on the networking diagram, and the browser can't find page

Is there a script that can take my file that has the server name and the new IP address and modify the existing servers' network from the list? I want to place the script on the servers before I am ready to change subnets for preparation.
