Cisco Firewall :: ASA5510 Clients With Tunnel Can No Longer FTP
Sep 21, 2011
I have an ASA5510 running in production. I have about 28 site-to-site vpn tunnels that have been working perfectly for the last year or so. I was running 8.0.4 and recently upgraded to 8.2.4. Since the upgrade, I have an issue that I haven't figured out. One of my clients with a tunnel can no longer FTP us. When I do a packet tracer on the ASA, all phases are "ALLOW" but at the very end, the action is "drop" due to "IPSEC spoof detected." None of my crypto config for the tunnel including the crypto ACL has not been changed. This same tunnel had NO issues prior to the 8.2.4 upgrade.
I thought about trying to disable "inspect FTP,. I am running FTP passive mode on the ASA so I don't believe "inspect FTP" is required.

We got an ASA5510 (8.2x) with an inside, guest and outside interface. On the guest interface, we have DHCP function on the ASA.On the outside, there is web-ssl vpn (dns hostname on a public isp-dns server) configured.
When an user on the guest net tries to get connected with the web-ssl dns-name, it resolves the public, outside interface-ip , the ASA dropps it.
I know, with static NAT it can be resolved url...but on this scenario, we are trying to build a connection from a guest inside IP to the public-ip form the outside ASA interface. If the guest users try an web-ssl connection on the guest-ASA IP, it works with a certificate error ( because there is no internal DNS on the guest net to resolve the dns name to the guest-interface IP).
So how can this be achieved? Can the ASA provide DNS server function? Can a NAT static entry (outside ip to interface guest) solve it? It's the only solution an inhouse DNS server in the guest-net?

We have a setup where clients on the internal network send/receive their emails through Microsoft Outlook client, while the Exchange server is hosted on the internet, outside the organization. The clients are connected to a Cisco switch, behind an ASA5510 Firewall. The Firewall is connected to an internet router, with double NAT (On the ASA and Router).
the outlook clients disconnect from the Exchange server, sometimes for hours, and then reconnect again. During these disconnections, the same client PCs are able to browse the internet normally. There are no restrictions for the traffic going from the inside to the outside. During the disconnections, if we try to connect using a public IP bypassing the ASA & router,.

For years now we've had an ASA5510 running an old version of ASA/ASDM (7.0/5.0) and couldn't access ASDM through a modern system with a recent JRE, so we didn't bother with this.
However, we've recently upgraded ASA/ASDM for purposes of adding failover and want to be able to access ASDM through our site to site tunnel. The site to site tunnel gives us access to the VLAN that the firewall is the gateway for, but not access to the firewall itself.
This side of the network is the 10.1.55.0 subnet, and that side of the network is the 192.168.1.0 subnet. I can ping devices on the 192.168.1.0 subnet, but not the firewall, (not that I really need to) and devices can ping me back. I can access ASDM through RDP or ssh into a server on the 192.168.1.0 subnet, but not directly from the 10.1.55.0 subnet.
This is the current config relative to the 10.1.55.0 subnet:
access-list trust_nat0_outbound extended permit ip 192.168.0.0 255.255.0.0 10.1.55.0 255.255.255.0
access-list untrust_cryptomap_600 extended permit ip 192.168.0.0 255.255.0.0
[Code]....
As far as I'm aware, the tunnel comes into the firewall through the untrust (public) interface, because that is the destination of the tunnel on the 10.1.55.0 subnet side.
What am I missing here that would allow asdm access through the untrust interface for the 10.1.55.0 subnet?

I have two routers on my internal network.
10.10.199.106 is a Cisco ASA5510.
10.10.199.108 is a Sonicwall NSA 3500
The sonicwall handles our site to site VPN tunnels. The Cisco handles our client to site VPN connections.
I have a unit that points to 10.10.199.106 (Cisco) for internet access. All other clients on the network point to 10.10.199.108 (Sonicwall) for internet access. The device in question, a Synology NAS, is using 10.10.199.68 as it's IP address.
I'm trying to hit the web interface on the NAS from a remote site across our VPN tunnel. The IP scheme on the remote end of the VPN tunnel is 192.168.72.0/24.
Going through the VPN, I can hit every object on the network that uses .108 (Sonicwalll) as it's gateway. However, I cannot hit the unit that uses .106 (Cisco) as it's gateway.
I added a route statement (using ASDM) that routes all traffic destined to 192.168.72.0/24 to the Sonicwall so it can send it back down the VPN tunnel. If I'm understanding routing correctly, this should allow responses from NAS destined for 192.168.72.0/24 to go back down the VPN tunnel.

I have 2 RV042 routers. As of yesterday, for over 2 months, quick vpn has not been functioning. I had a 2008 server installed; the tech could not get the quickvpn clients to the server, so his solution to give clients access was to map the server to the internet. As you can imagine, it has been attacked consistently and we have since removed the server. Clients have not been able to use Linksys quickvpn client to connect. I have had 3 different network technicians, and have been charged way too much for nothing, and the best i got was it being restored to its broken state. We thought it was a flakey router, but both do the same thing.

I had a simple PPTP VPN server running behind my old DLink router. When I installed the E3000 the VPN clients could no longer connect. The port forwarding for PPTP is turned on and VPN passthrough is enabled. The PPTP server reported GRE47 checksum failed. The linksys chat tech was not beneficial. How to get a PPTP route to work?

Region : Others
Model : TL-WR941ND
Hardware Version : V3
Firmware Version : 3.13.9 Build 120201 Rel.54965n
We are trying to use a TL-WR941ND purchased about a month ago, but it keeps hanging, usually within a day or so of operation. To be clear: by "hanging" I mean the device stops providing wireless services (its SSID is no longer visible in WiFi clients) and becomes nonresponsive to pings or control access attempts (via settings web page) from the internal network connections. The device is used in a very simple scenario, where it's being employed as a simple access point, not as a router. As such, the device's configuration is as follows:
* WAN interface is configured with a dummy static IP (10.10.10.10/24) with gateway and DNS set to the internal IP address of the actual routing device connected to the external world.
* LAN interface is configured with an IP address inside the actual internal IP subnet (192.168.1.0/24).
* DHCP is also disabled as this service is already provided.
* Wireless settings: radio enabled, SSID broadcast enabled, WDS disabled, 11bgn mixed mode, auto channel width, max TX rate, channel 7 (manually set). Using WPA-PSK security.
Rest of the settings are unchanged from their default values, as the device isn't being used as an IP router by any client - just as a WiFi/Ethernet layer 2 bridge. We're using what appears to be TP-Link's latest stock firmware for the device. The settings described above appear to provide the connectivity required by the WiFi clients. However, the device continuously hangs within a day or so of operation, requiring someone to physically attend to the device and cold-restarting it (disconnecting it from power and reconnecting it) to regain an operational state.
After performing a cold restart, the system log shows nothing beyond the startup entries: "System started" entry followed by security info entries regarding enabled protocols. Then the device appears to work well for a while, until it hangs again, forcing again someone to attend to the device, etc.

Is this kind of configuration possible? Can the VPN tunnel go thru the Firewall to another interface (DMZ) on it? And not to end “outside” interface.I have DMZ network in ASA5510 interface and I like to end the L2L IPsec VPN tunnel on it. The tunnel mas go thru the ASA from Internet via outside to the end point DMZ interface. The traffic is decrypted to that interface. So the VPN L2L peer interface is the DMZ interface IP address, not the Outside interface IP address.

I have an ASA5510 configuration that I'd like to add to.In this configuration there is a site to site IPSEC VPN tunnel to a remote location. It is tunneling a particular subnet for me and everything is working. In the remote subnet, there is an ASA 5525-x connected on the outside interface. Let's say for argument's sake, the outside IP is 210.0.0.1.On the Inside interface, i've configured 10.240.32.0/24 network. The only static route I have configured on the 5510 is the default gateway that goes to the ISP.I assumed that I have to add: route Outside 10.240.32.0 255.255.255.0 210.0.0.1 1.I did this, but i'm not able to reach the destination 10.240.32.0/24 network. I can't see anything hitting the 5525-x and the only thing I see on the 5510 is the building outbound ICMP and the teardown for the ICMP.

We've created an ipsec VPN tunnel between our ASA5510 (8.3) and a Pix firewall (not sure of the specific version, etc).
The tunnel works fine, except for timing at times (traffic only goes through a few times a day), and a wierd problem with all traffic being allowed even though I'm only allowing specific ports (SFTP, SQL Server 1433) from a network at the client site to a specific server in our Data center.
I was surprised that I could RDP into the server, as well as telnet any other port exposed on this server from the client site. Now as I write this i realize that I did not check whether any of our other data center servers can be reached via the tunnel.....
Not having set up many VPN tunnels before using ASA (only Checkpoint - Checkpoint before this), I'm wondering whether i need to include another rule in the VPN tunnel cryptomap to deny all other traffic from their network to our network, or whether there's a global config I need to add a rule to.
I am moderately conversant in the command line, but because of my lack of Cisco VPN tunnel experience I did use the ASDM site-to-site VPN tunnel wizard to set the tunnel up. Not sure if there were any defaults i would have to override using that method.

I have an asa 5510 that has many(17)ipsec vpn site tunnels on it. One of the tunnels, one running to a c1900isr at the other end, is experiencing 400 to 500ms latency through it. It does appear to be the tunnel only because there is no latency to the internet. I cleared the tunnel group out and readded it to no effect. isp says everything fine. any other known causes for this

I have successfully setup the AnyConnect VPN (connecting to our ASA5510) and have split tunneling configured. My remote users can access inside LAN servers as well as the Internet from their remote location. What I would like to know is is it possible to change the split tunnel and not allow access to the Internet from the remote location but force the remote client to go through the VPN and out our internal edge firewall to the Internet? Basically I need my remote clients to access the Internet but I would like for their Internet traffic to go through the VPN and out our edge firewall. This will allow the same security as if they were sitting in the office.

the old command was static(inside, outside) 10.x.x.x 10.x.x.x netmask 255.255.255.x i'm having a little difficulty decyphering the pdf about the static nat...the command itself is no longer used, nat-control is no longer used, but i'm not quite sure what the equivalent nat command is that equates to the old static inside, outside command.

We were having a discussion of ios firewall vs. asa for smaller clients(less than 50). On using ios firewall(zbf or cbac)and an asa 5505/5510. One of the arguments brought up on using ios firewall on the router is that a router will do an ip sla failover. I have configured a number of isr's for this and i know it works good.

I have two ASA5510's set up in failover, and the secondary keeps crashing after doing the interface checks when bringing failover up. This only happens if I try to upgrade the image on the secondary to anything newer than 8.4.1 (I've tried with 8.4.1-11 and 8.4.2). The primary one run just fine with new images.
I don't have the exact error right now, as I need to do a screen capture from console. It's just a huge crash dump. Are there anything I might have missed during the upgrade? Should I cold-boot both the firewalls in the correct order?

I have a ASA5510 and I have a question about the speed the ports can handle, here is one port:
-interface Ethernet0/2
- speed 100
-shutdown
- no nameif
-no security-level
-no ip address
it's ethernet and not fastethernet so I figure it will only go to 10Mbps, but at the same time I can hard code the speed to 100.

I was having major issues with a 5505 (too long a discussion to go into here) so I formatted the disk and uploaded fresh binaries and recreated my configuration. I noticed the licenses were preserved. I also noticed there were several fsck records after the format that were reclaiming lost chains. I suspect the flash on this ASA is going bad, since everytime it boots it says "reading from flash ..!!" like it cannot even read flash successfully. When I purchased this one new, it also had several fsck records being brand new. I'm going to open a case on these flash issues/questions.
Anyway, after all of the above, the only thing that is not working is the botnet filter. [code]

We have to use scp on all of our network devices. It worked quite well on our routers and switches but I can't seem to get it to work for the firewalls and IPS. I enabled scp on my ASA5510 using the command "ssh scopy enable". I also ensured that a rsa key was generated and that ssh ver 2 was enabled. But I can't seem to locate the commands to actually have my firewall either copy it's configuration to a server or reach out to a server to pull down a file. We are using IOS 8.2(1).
