Cisco VPN :: PPTP Between Windows Clients And 2921 Router
Oct 23, 2011I have a trouble with PPTP VPN between Windows clients and Cisco 2921 router with RADIUS (IAS) authorization. When I try to connect to Cisco 2921 from Windows 7 using MS-CHAP v2 I receive error 778: it was not possible to verify the identity of server . Then I use PAP - everythig is OK. On Windows XP the same situation.

Even I have upgraded to the newest firmware for WDR-4300, it still not allowed me to connect to a windows PPTP VPN. It worked when I changed to use my old router. On the other hand, when I turned the hardware NAT, I found that the Cisco VPN connection would be dropped after I used for a few minutes. Similarly, it worked when I changed to use my previous old router.

(i'm aware it can provide function of VPN PPTP server but could not find if it can act as client).To explain further: I'm based in Europe and use US VPN to access some US services like Netflix, Pandora, etc.. (i'm paying for US VPN account as service so I have no other choice than PPTP). I would like to establish permanent PPTP VPN tunnel with remote server so all computers in the house can go through tunnel when i browse for Pandora or Netflix for example (is this router capable of routing policy too so not all the traffic would be routed through tunnel?)

Mar 6, 2011We have a Cisco 891 with this configuration belowI got several computer on my lan that needs to connect to an external Windows server with pptp. The windows server is not mine but it works. The clients are using the windows connection manager. We can connect to the windows pptp server for hours sometimes.But, sometimes we can just connect about 3-4-5 minutes, and it auto-disconnects. Is there something wrong in my configuration ? I heard the cisco router is messing with the keepalive or the connection state.It seems to happens when i have more than 5-6 clients connected at the same time on the same server. I got theses mesages : Link to VPN failed. OR ERROR 619 OR ERROR 651Before, I had a RV042 and it worked like a charm. We were 10 on the vpn server and it was working. I dont see why Its not working now.

Sep 11, 2011I have a RV082 in the corporate office, and several remote people connecting to it using QuickVPN through a variety of clients (XP and Windows 7). As of today, they are all now seeing the "Remote Gateway is not responding - disconnect or wait" message. Checking through the logs on some of the remote clients, I see the "Failed to ping the remote router" message several times, followed by the "Ping was blocked, which can be caused by an unexpected disconnect." message.
The odd thing is that everyone has been running very well over the past 2-3 weeks - most people with 8+ hours of solid connectivity. We made no changes to the clients, nor to the remote router in the corporate office.

Mar 15, 2012I have 2 RV042 routers. As of yesterday, for over 2 months, quick vpn has not been functioning. I had a 2008 server installed; the tech could not get the quickvpn clients to the server, so his solution to give clients access was to map the server to the internet. As you can imagine, it has been attacked consistently and we have since removed the server. Clients have not been able to use Linksys quickvpn client to connect. I have had 3 different network technicians, and have been charged way too much for nothing, and the best i got was it being restored to its broken state. We thought it was a flakey router, but both do the same thing.

Sep 21, 2011I have an ASA5510 running in production. I have about 28 site-to-site vpn tunnels that have been working perfectly for the last year or so. I was running 8.0.4 and recently upgraded to 8.2.4. Since the upgrade, I have an issue that I haven't figured out. One of my clients with a tunnel can no longer FTP us. When I do a packet tracer on the ASA, all phases are "ALLOW" but at the very end, the action is "drop" due to "IPSEC spoof detected." None of my crypto config for the tunnel including the crypto ACL has not been changed. This same tunnel had NO issues prior to the 8.2.4 upgrade.
I thought about trying to disable "inspect FTP,. I am running FTP passive mode on the ASA so I don't believe "inspect FTP" is required.
Cisco Routers :: RV082 ARP Booting Clients Off Internet?
Jul 17, 2012I have a network of 50+ users with half running XP and half running Windows 7. Soon we will be upgrading all users to Windows 7. During the past month a number of the Windows 7 users have reported intermittent Internet connectivity. I would go to their computer and see that they are getting all the correct IP information from the DHCP server and reboot their network adapter. Usually one reset of the adapter would do, but sometimes had to reset it twice or three times before connectivity would occur.
After a few weeks of this more users would report consistent intermittent connectivity. Just to the Internet, as they were able to reach their folders on our file server and were able to receive e-mails from our e-mail server. I decided to monitor the network traffic on one of the adapters having the issue using Wireshark, and found an ARP request and reply for the gateway IP. I logged into the router and found that the reply given to the Windows 7 machine was incorrect, as the MAC address given to the Windows 7 machine was the WAN1 port of the RV082. The LAN port on the router is 192.168.0.1 and has a MAC of xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-x0. The WAN1 port on the router has a public IP and has a MAC of xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-x1. I checked the arp cache on the Windows 7 computers and confirmed that when they have no internet connectivity the ARP cache reads like this: 192.168.0.1 xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-x1 dynamic
The machine is able to ping every machine on the internal network except for the gateway IP. Also, after updating the cache to map the gateway IP with the LAN port MAC address, using: netsh interface ipv4 add neighbors "connection name" 192.168.0.1 xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-x0
the issue was resolved for that Windows 7 machine. However, the issue is ongoing for every Windows 7/Vista machine added to the network. I do not want to update the ARP cache on every Vista/7 machine introduced to the network.We are running firmware 2.0.2.01-tm which was updated from 2.0.0.19-tm just 2 weeks ago.

Jul 25, 2011I have a RV082 and several of my remote laptops cannot access my server using its domain name. It can be accessed using its internal ip address. The issue is that you can log onto the server using remote access and the ip however you cannot use any shortcuts using the domain name. You can see the server with the domin name however no access path is available. This is only on a few remote user laptops. Others work perfectly.

We are trying to use a TL-WR941ND purchased about a month ago, but it keeps hanging, usually within a day or so of operation.To be clear: by "hanging" I mean the device stops providing wireless services (its SSID is no longer visible in WiFi clients) and becomes nonresponsive to pings or control access attempts (via settings web page) from the internal network connections.The device is used in a very simple scenario, where it's being employed as a simple access point, not as a router. As such, the device's configuration is as follows:
* WAN interface is configured with a dummy static IP (10.10.10.10/24) with gateway and DNS set to the internal IP address of the actual routing device connected to the external world.
* LAN interface is configured with an IP address inside the actual internal IP subnet (192.168.1.0/24).
* DHCP is also disabled as this service is already provided.
* Wireless settings: radio enabled, SSID broadcast enabled, WDS disabled, 11bgn mixed mode, auto channel width, max TX rate, channel 7 (manually set). Using WPA-PSK security.
Rest of the settings are unchanged from their default values, as the device isn't being used as an IP router by any client - just as a WiFi/Ethernet layer 2 bridge. We're using what appears to be TP-Link's latest stock firmware for the device.The settings described above appear to provide the connectivity required by the WiFi clients. However, the device continuously hangs within a day or so of operation, requiring someone to physically attend to the device and cold-restarting it (disconnecting it from power and reconnecting it) to regain an operational state.
After performing a cold restart, the system log shows nothing beyond the startup entries: "System started" entry followed by security info entries regarding enabled protocols. Then the device appears to work well for a while, until it hangs again, forcing again someone to attend to the device, etc.
Cisco VPN :: 877 Encryption Not Working On PPTP VPN
Jul 2, 2011I have a Cisco 877 router and I configured it to act as a VPN server, supporting both PPTP and L2TP VPNs. I can succesfully connect to it from Windows computers using the built-in VPN software.There is only one problem: when using a PPTP VPN, encryption doesn't work. If I configure the client to require encryption (default setting), the connection fails with an error about the remote endpoint not supporting it. If I remove the encryption requirement, the connection succeeds. I've also tried tweaking the encryption settings (40/128 bits), but this didn't work either. [code]
The router's IOS version is 15, and it fully supports encryption. The strangest thing is, encryption is actually required in the router config; but not only the router doesn't seem to offer it... it also accepts unencrypted connections, which it shouldn't. It's like the ppp encrypt mppe auto required command is completely ignored.

May 5, 2012I possess a RV220W (firmware 1.0.3.5) but I can't seem to work with the PPTP server on one VLAN only.
My default VLAN is in 192.168.1.1/24. I created a VLAN ID 10 in 192.168.50.1/24 inter-vlan routing : disabled and Device Management : disabled. (Menu Networking > LAN > VLAN Membership and Multiple VLAN Subnets).
Then I configured a PPTP server on the IP range 192.168.50.200 to 192.168.50.210.
To finish I created my user. (Menu VPN > IPSEC > VPN Users).
The PPTP tunnel is working, but on all my local network and not only the VLAN ID 10.

Jan 9, 2012I have a remote location that has a Linksys/Cisco RV042 router [URL] that allows PPTP connections based on username and password combinations. There are no intermediary routers between this device and the internet - only a DSL modem. A secondary WAN connection is not present.
I am able to dial into this VPN using the Windows XP and Windows 7 dialers from any of my local free-wifi locations(e.g. Starbucks). I WAS able to connect to this VPN connection from my house when my home router was a Buffalo brand router.
I have replaced the Buffalo router with a 2620(non-XM) that is connected in ROaS fashion to a 2950 switch. I need some guidance on what in my config is not allowing me to connect to this remote site.
Home network info: Local subnets : 192.168.x.x
Remote network info: Local subnet : 10.214.x.x
The Windows XP dialer client indicates that the username and password challenge is where the connection fails. It ultimately gives me the error code 619. I have performed a Wireshark packet capture of an attempt to connect from ip 192.168.10.11. This packet capture shows multiple "Configuration Request" packets being exchanged between the two endpoints, but does not ever show an exchange of authentication.
My nat translation table shows an entry for both a GRE tunnel as well as port 1723 between 192.168.10.11 and the WAN port of the RV042 when attempting to establish this VPN.
I have attached my 2620 configuration for your review.

Feb 5, 2011I was using desktop computer and got infamous blue screen of death Rebooted and everything was fine except could no longer could see LAN connection or connect to internet The desktop computer also has a wireless card that allows me to connect to router wirelessly but only get "connect with limited access" I have a cable connection through a router and tried connection dsl directly to ethernet and bypassing router but no change Router works for other laptops to connect wirelessly I can see both network adapters in the device manager and both say devices are working properly Here are the results of ipconfig /all:

Jun 2, 2011Last night on the xbox 360 i was suddenly experiencing alot of lag on other peoples voices. i took no notice of it and the next day i went on my laptop and alot of websites wouldn't load properly.i can go on google,obviously this and my hotmail(after having to wait a long time for the hotmail to load), but others such as ebay will not load. I cannot even access my router settings by typing in my ip address, instead i get a message saying the page cannot be found. also i was disconnected from xbox live with the internet to xbox live part not working. Obviously the first thing i done was turn the router off and back on but it hasn't made any difference.

Cisco Routers :: VPN Not Working With RV082
Jan 24, 2012I have a VPN tunnel from one RV082 to another, first router has IP range of 192.168.1.0 and the second one has range of 18.18.18.0, the connection works fine, here is where the issue starts, I am at a PC in the 18.18.18.0 network and I ping an IP in the other one e.g. 192.168.1.50 and it pings fine, but when I try to RDP into it or do anything to it I get no response, is it a firewall issue? Is it a NAT issue? I am at a loss, now that IP i mentioned does have RDP enabled and working because it is being port fowarded in the 192.168.1.0 router and I can access it through the public IP.
Also a workstation with a static IP 192.168.1.18 I can ping it if im in the local network but if I am in the remote one I cannot at all.

Jun 13, 2012I have a Cisco ASA 5510 (with an AnyConnect Mobile License enabled) I used to be able to connect to the VPN using the AnyConnect app for Android form the Google App store (the phone is a Samsung Galaxy S II LTE, if that matters). Like I said everything used to work fine until a few weeks ago, the only change I made to the router was giving it a different external IP address (I changed ISP), I'm pretty sure it worked after that. But now when I try to connect with my Android I get this error: "Clientless (browser) SSL VPN access is not allowed".

Mar 27, 2011I use the Windows7 Virutal WIFI when traveling abroad to give my Iphone an internet connection in my hotel.I've had zero issues until this week. The WIFI connection is still showing up on my iphone, but I no longer get internet access (I only get an IP and subnet on the iphone now, no router or DNS info). The issue began (coincidence or not) as my MagicJack downloaded and installed a software update. MagicJack support says they aren't the issue. I experimented with created an Ad-Hoc network...no change. I've removed and reinstalled the wireless card and driver. No change. I suspect some corruption with ICS, but haven't found any solutions online to fix it.

Aug 10, 2011There is one guest interface, one guest WLAN. The WLAN is set with a DHCP override address of the guest interface. But it no longer allows this as I found out. Anyway, I can get the client to now receive an address from the internal pool on the WLC, but it will not route to the authentication page. I noticed that the WLC excludes the clients attempting to connect on the guest WLAN due to failed 802.1x authentication! the WLC never even gave me the chance to authenticate using an account created either through the lobby ambassador or creating one directly on the controller.

May 24, 2011I've been using my AE1000 for about a month now with absolutely no problems. Yesterday it just stopped working, I removed it from the USB port and just about burned my fingers on the metal part that plugs into the USB port. BTW I am on Windows 7 64-bit.
Now it won't work. I've tried reinstalling the driver and the device just blinks in the "Devices and Printers" control panel. I removed it again and it was very hot to the touch after only being in the port for about a minute.
