I recently installed a new 220W with the sole intention of setting up the PPTP server. I got the router installed and working but cannot get the PPTP server working. Also when i configure a block of IP address from my lan for the server it tells me i cannot use that subnet? i have set it up this way with other routers ( RV042 ) with no issues.

I possess a RV220W (firmware 1.0.3.5) but I can't seem to work with the PPTP server on one VLAN only.
My default VLAN is in 192.168.1.1/24. I created a VLAN ID 10 in 192.168.50.1/24 inter-vlan routing : disabled and Device Management : disabled. (Menu Networking > LAN > VLAN Membership and Multiple VLAN Subnets).
Then I configured a PPTP server on the IP range 192.168.50.200 to 192.168.50.210.
To finish I created my user. (Menu VPN > IPSEC > VPN Users).
The PPTP tunnel is working, but on all my local network and not only the VLAN ID 10.
I set up a PPTP VPN with an RV220W recently. It was working flawlessly until a recent power outage and now users are getting the 807 error when attempting to connect. I have PPTP passthrough enabled and TCP/UDP 1723 open. As far as I can tell GRE 47 is open as well. Why it was working and is not working after a power outage?

When I go to add a tenth account the interface just hangs and stops responding. I can delete a user and then add another user and this works fine. I can also add other types of VPN users.

I want to connect with an RV042 with a fixed IP Address.The connection is working, but I always have to add a static route to the remote IP-Adress that I can transmit data.Since my own IP Adress is a dynamic one that changes every day I have to enter every day in the static route as gateway adress the new WAN IP Address.
View 4 Replies View Relatedi'm having problems connecting to my RV220W using PPTP. The first time I set up PPTP on the box, everything worked just fine. Now, however, PPTP just won't work. No matter how I try to tweak various settings on the router, the connection fails. I have tried connecting with Windows 7, Android and OSX with no success.The router came with version 1.0.1.0, and I have tried downgrading to 1.0.0.26 and upgrading to 1.0.3.5, but alas, I can't seem to make PPTP work again.

The Tunnel works fine for local users between the two sites(Site 1:10.0.0.x; site 2 is 10.0.2.x). I have also set up PPTP users for remote access. PPTP users that connect to site 1 cannot access site 2 and vice versa. The PPTP users have no trouble accessing the resources on the site that they connect to. I have tried activating RIP and adding various static routes with no success. If I PPTP connect to site 1 and I tracert to an IP address on site 2 the route goes to the site 1 router and then goes to the internet(connected to the site 1 router) where it stops.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy RV220w has a problem with DNS. I have configured the device for my network, but it seems as though DNS is not working correctly. For a background, I have a primarily Windows environment in my network, W7 PCs. I use homegroup to share files/printers amongst them. I like that I can type "\<server-name> in the Windows search box, and up comes the other computer's files. This functionality is still there with the RV220w, so that's not my issue. My problem arises when attempting to type "<server-name>" into the Remote Desktop Connection dialog box. I can no longer RDP to my other computers by name. Attempting by IP does get me there.

So far we have been unsuccessful in getting this to work.On both sides, we are getting a successful connection established, but netiher site is recieving any packets. Both sides are transmitting packets though. We have exhausted our resources trying to figure out why.

I have been trying to configure a local DMZ on our network with the Cisco Small Business RV220W router, running the latest 1.0.3.5 firmware but it doesn't seem to be fully functional? Does the DMZ feature actually do anything at the current state of this router? Because when I tried to DMZ host a computer on our local network I still had to manually port forward different applications in order for people to reach it from WAN.
For instance when trying to host a game session, utilizing TCP port 7777 it didn't matter whether I had enabled DMZ or not, I was still required to manually port forward the port to the DMZ IP-address.
Doesn't this defeat and eliminate the whole purpose of the DMZ feature in the first place?
I have a Cisco 877 router and I configured it to act as a VPN server, supporting both PPTP and L2TP VPNs. I can succesfully connect to it from Windows computers using the built-in VPN software.There is only one problem: when using a PPTP VPN, encryption doesn't work. If I configure the client to require encryption (default setting), the connection fails with an error about the remote endpoint not supporting it. If I remove the encryption requirement, the connection succeeds. I've also tried tweaking the encryption settings (40/128 bits), but this didn't work either. [code]
The router's IOS version is 15, and it fully supports encryption. The strangest thing is, encryption is actually required in the router config; but not only the router doesn't seem to offer it... it also accepts unencrypted connections, which it shouldn't. It's like the ppp encrypt mppe auto required command is completely ignored.

Rules on the M0n0wall are set correctly. It seems that the Linksys has problems with GRE 47 protocol routing. Does a newer model (WAG120N or WAG320N) work with PPTP passthrough?

There are no intermediary routers between this device and the internet - only a DSL modem. A secondary WAN connection is not present.
I am able to dial into this VPN using the Windows XP and Windows 7 dialers from any of my local free-wifi locations(e.g. Starbucks). I WAS able to connect to this VPN connection from my house when my home router was a Buffalo brand router.
I have replaced the Buffalo router with a 2620(non-XM) that is connected in ROaS fashion to a 2950 switch. I need some guidance on what in my config is not allowing me to connect to this remote site.
Home network info: Local subnets : 192.168.x.x
Remote network info: Local subnet : 10.214.x.x
The Windows XP dialer client indicates that the username and password challenge is where the connection fails. It ultimately gives me the error code 619. I have performed a Wireshark packet capture of an attempt to connect from ip 192.168.10.11. This packet capture shows multiple "Configuration Request" packets being exchanged between the two endpoints, but does not ever show an exchange of authentication.
My nat translation table shows an entry for both a GRE tunnel as well as port 1723 between 192.168.10.11 and the WAN port of the RV042 when attempting to establish this VPN.

Even I have upgraded to the newest firmware for WDR-4300, it still not allowed me to connect to a windows PPTP VPN. It worked when I changed to use my old router. On the other hand, when I turned the hardware NAT, I found that the Cisco VPN connection would be dropped after I used for a few minutes. Similarly, it worked when I changed to use my previous old router.
I have a pptp server on my network and am trying to configure my new RV110W so that I can tunnel through to it from outside.
I believe I must do port forwarding for TCP on port 1723 to get those packets going to my PPTP server. PPTP also uses GRE and I don't see that as an option anyware in port forwarding... Does that just work... as a matter of the VPN pass through checkbox being enabled ?
My netgear router would lock up every few days but it under the firewall configuration it had list of services that included PPTP and I just selected that, entered the IP addresses on the outside that I would accept, and the IP address on the inside that the PPTP clients would connect to, and it worked....
I'm thinking it is harder on this device because this device supports actually logging into it.. I am interested in learning more about that technique especially if it is more secure but the way I see it the firewall device can see all of my network and the pptp server I am using is on a file server and limited to those files shared on that server.
My network to use a RV042 router. It is connected to my cable modem and working well. I may add a DSL connection later in the month as a backup. All I really want to do now is setup my PPTP VPN connection. I have not been able to find a guide so I will assume it isn't that bad. I set up 2 accounts in the VPN-PPTP Server screen. Built my connection on my android phone and voila nothing works. So I tried to disable the "Block WAN requests". I tried port forwarding the VPN to 192.168.1.1 (address of the router) and no luck. I am not using pre-configured tunnels, I just connect to the office VPN using the built-in Windows PPTP client when necessary. I have a small network at home using the router in a NAT configuration on my static IP fibre DSL connection.
I had previously been able to connect using PPTP from either XP or Windows 7. Now I get "Error 732: Your computer and the remote computer could not agree on PPP control protocols". Unfortunately I don't know what hardware or PPTP server is used at the office.(I don't know if it is relevant but I have also configured the RV180 PPTP server to allow incoming VPN connections - this works fine. It doesn't make any difference to my issue whether it is enabled or not.)Are there any known problems using Windows PPTP client through the router in a NAT configuration. Is there anything I need to configure apart from enabling PPTP passthrough?
Edit: Just to clarify, the problem is making PPTP VPN connections from XP/Win7 on my home network over the internet to my office VPN/PPTP server, via the RV180W as my home router (using NAT/PAT).
Edit: More info. Looks like the office VPN is a Microsoft RAS server on Windows 2008 behind a cisco PIX firewall.
Edit: Just to be sure, I swapped out the cisco RV180W for my old netgear router and I was immediately able to VPN again with no issue from both XP and Win7. When I swapped the RV180W back in again, I was able to VPN from XP but not Win 7 so it looks as though the PPTP passthrough works occasionally but is intermittent. Just to be clear, the VPN is only intermittent using the RV180, it has always worked flawlessly on the other router so I don't think there is a problem with the internet connection or client/server configuration.
I am having problem when try to connect through VPN from MacOS to my RV016 router.The situation is like this. I can connect to the router,the connection is succesfull, but when I try access resources inside the network it disconnects me.The message is "You are dissconnected by the PPTP Server". I encountered this problem on MacOS Snow Leopard and Lion. I tried to connect from 3 different Apple machines, but the problem is the same.
View 1 Replies View RelatedFor the past week, I have tried to setup the PPTP VPN server on the RV180. The setup was straight forward, but I could not log-on no matter what I tried. I decided to call Cisco small business support, and as I was talking to the engineer, it mysteriously started to work. I was puzzled and somewhat embarrassed because I'd hate to admit it was an id10t problem on my part. As I tried a few different configurations, I began to realize there might be a limitation in the RV180 PPTP VPN server with the current firmware (1.0.1.9).
In short, the RV180 PPTP only works with 192.168.xxx.xxx/24 subnet. My setup has 3 vlans: vlan1 in 172.xxx.xxx.xxx/24 subnet, vlan2 192.168.0.xxx/24, and vlan3 10.xxx.xxx.xxx/24. My originally plan was to keep vlan3 isolated by disabling inter-vlan routing, but I needed a way to manage a couple of devices on vlan3 remotely, thus I wanted to setup a VPN in the 10.xxx.xxx.xxx/24 subnet. This turned out to be the reason why it never worked before. Today when I called Cisco support, I assigned the PPTP VPN server a 192.168.0.xxx ip range, and it worked. Later, I tried assigning 172.xxx or 10.xxx ip addresses to the PPTP VPN server, and they both failed to work. I created another test vlan4 with 192.168.2.xxx/24 subnet, and assigned the PPTP VPN server to that vlan, and it worked again.
I'd like to mention that I already configured the 10.xxx.xxx.xxx/24 subnet with a few devices before I replaced my router with RV180, and I don't want to have to change and test the setup of all the devices. Another reason I want to have my VPN server outside the 192.168.xxx.xxx range is that it's way too commonly used by wifi hotspots that it increases the chance of wifi and vpn in the same subnet.
I can test a few more configurations, but I think the results will be the same. Perhaps Cisco should test the RV180 in the lab to confirm what I found.
I have a VoIP application that I'm trying to run over the PPTP VPN tunnel on a RV120W router.
The system is a NEC SV8100 PBX communicating with the NEC soft phone (SP310). The system uses SIP to set up the call and for other signaling information. It uses RTP to transmit/receive the audio stream.
The problem I'm having is that there is no audio stream from the soft phone. The SIP communication and the audio stream to the soft phone works fine. The symptom is: from the soft phone, the remote party cannot hear you, but you can hear them.
I did a packet trace on the RV120W and found the following:

As you can see, the Source IP address is being changed from its original 192.168.1.52 to 192.168.1.1. The NEC PBX is expecting the packet to be coming from the softphone, (192.168.1.52) not the RV120W (192.168.1.1). As a result it ignores the RTP packet from the soft phone and does not relay it to the remote party.
Is there any reason why the RV120W is performing NAT on PPTP packets? Can this be disabled somehow?
I am working with a RV180w and need to map drives from the internal network to the VPN client but whenever I try to connect to a shared drive I continue to get authentication messages from the DC. Any useful guide for configuration in this scenario. Internal subnet is on Windows 2008 domain.

I've encountered a problem when using PPTP VPN to access my network. I can connect in and able to ping the hosts connected to the RV110W. [code] On the local network, I am able to ping the hosts in 192.168.250.x from 192.168.251.x and vice versa.Static routes are configured to ensure that all networks are reachable.The problem comes when I tried to VPN (PPTP) in from a remote location using the Windows XP's built in default VPN dialer.When connected, I can ping all the hosts on 192.168.254.xxx segments, but when I tried to ping the hosts in 192.168.250.xxx and 192.168.251.xxx segments, I get a request timeout.
The routing table on the RV110W shows the gateway for 192.168.254.240 (the VPN IP address) as 0.0.0.0 and interface is WAN.What am I missing and how should I configure the RV110W so that I can access the other subnets through VPN?
My network consists of the following:
Office-RV042 with static IP ->SBS2003 (10.10.10.5/ 255.255.255.0)
Remote: BEFSR41 with Dynamic -> XP sp3 VPN client (192.168.3.x/ 255.255.255.248)
Within the RV042 I have enabled the PPtP server and assigned a user. No port forwarding enabled. All VPN passthroughs and firewall is enabled. DHCP server is disabled.I can establish a connection to the rv042 and ping PCs including the sbs domain server on the office side but am unable to browse any folders. When I attempt to access a network folder located on the office server I am prompted for a username/ password. Upon entering my domain credentials I get an error stating: "the user name you typed is the same user name you logged in with. That user name has already been tried. A domain controller cannot be found to verify that user name"
