Cisco Firewall :: ASA5520 Configured NAT / ACL With Real IP In Existing Configuration After Upgrade

Mar 7, 2011

I am forced to upgrade my ASA 5520 software from 7.1 - 8.2 or higher, as I am not familiar with ASA I need expert opinions.I have following concerns regarding the upgrade.

1-Do I need to worry about the software licensing when I download 8.2

2-I read about the few difference in commands (ACL and NAT) in 8.2 what exactly I have to do here should I change the configured NAT and ACL with real IP in the existing configuration after the upgrade ?

Cisco Firewall :: Upgrade 8.2.2 On ASA5520?

Oct 3, 2011

We have 2 x ASA5520 and I upgraded this to 8.2.2 last year, I see 8.2.5 and now 8.4 is out.  If we are having no issues, is it best just to leave it as it is?  I can see a couple of features I may find useful in 8.2.5, but 8.4 seems like a huge jump and a risky one too.

Cisco Firewall :: Upgrade ASA 5520 In Active / Standby Configured From 7.2(4) To 8.3(1)

Oct 9, 2011

I have been asked to look at upgrading two 5520 ASA configured in a HA pair Active/Standby, from version 7.2(4) to version 8.3(1) to bring it in line with some other ASA firewalls in the organisation.

My question is can I simply upgrade straight from 7.2(4) to 8.3(1) or will I have to step the upgrade from 7.2(4) => 8.2(x) => 8.3(1)

Having read a few articles on the forums and the release notes I think I should be able to go from 7.2(4) => 8.3(1) .

The second part of my query is around the upgrade itself, having researched this a little there seems to be various views on how to go about upgrading a HA pair and I cannot find anything specific on the website.

The approach I am thinking of is simply as follows;

- upload images onto both firewalls in the HA pair
- On the standby from the CLI
clear configure boot

Cisco Firewall :: Zero Downtime IOS Upgrade On ASA5520

Jun 5, 2011

We are planning to upgrade IOS on a 5520 pair, from 7.2.4 to 8.2.4, and cause minimum outage. And according to the documentation, we can do the zero downtime IOS upgrade by failing over to the standby ASA and back.

So, can during this process, can we go from 7.2.5 to 8.0.5 (last maintenance release), or do we have to move to 8.0.2 first ?

Cisco Firewall :: Flash Upgrade ASA5520

I am needing to upgrade the Flash card on our current ASA from 64mb to a 1GB card to make way from upgrading from 8.0 to 8.4.  When i copy all the contents from the 64MB card through a card reader i am not getting the startup-config file copied over.  I checked to make sure that all hidden files are shown, but i am not seeing it.  I backed up the startup-config from the old 64mb card to a tftp server before switching the cards out.    Is their something that i am missing?

Cisco Firewall :: ASA5520 Basic Configuration

May 21, 2012

This is my 1st time trying to configure an ASA.

I'm trying to establish a very basic connection (ping) between 2 laptops, one sat on the outside interface, and one on the inside as per the diagram below:

I can ping back and forth from the ASA to 192.168.1.4, and to 10.1.1.1. However, what I'm trying to achieve is to be able to ping from 10.1.1.1 to 192.168.1.4 and vice versa.

I have attached the configuration file with this post as well.

Cisco Firewall :: Getting ASA5520 Total Configuration Dump?

Oct 9, 2011

We have a pair of ASA5520 firewalls setup in a very inefficient fashion, and I wish to convert them to an active/passive cluster. Trouble is, there are a number of configuration option I will need to re-implement (VPN tunnels, remote users etc), and trying to capture the configuation with a simple "show running-config" or "show running-config all" or even "show startup-config" doesn't get me things like the pre-shared-key from the VPN configurations - and I don't know them all, so I can't simply re-enter them.Is there any way to get a dump of the running (or startup) config which shows the hidden settings like pre-shared keys and OSPF message digest keys?

Cisco Firewall :: ASA5520 Unit Not Accessible On Network For Initial Configuration

Dec 15, 2011

We received an ASA5520-K8 through Cisco's Loan program so we could demo it as a replacement for our aging Cisco 3005 VPN appliances.  Given that we are a non Cisco shop (except for specific appliances like concentrators and wireless access points), I don't have a great deal of experience with Cisco gear.I started to set to setup the appliance this morning but immediately ran into issues.  The 5520 doesnt seem to be acting as a DHCP server, and worse yet, I can't access the unit even if I hard code the IP on the PC being used for configuration.  I have to say that I feel kinda stupid having to post this, since I actually followed the documentation avaiable for this menial task and I fully expect the problem to be a simple one.  Namely, I am using two specific sources of info for connections.

Cisco Firewall :: 8.0 To 8.2 Upgrade Would It Affect Configuration 5550

Apr 29, 2012

I am planning the upgrade of an ASA 5550 Active/Passive cluster from 8.0 to 8.2 according to the "zero downtime upgrade" documentation available in the web.

I do not have another cluster for comprehensive testing, but I executed a simple migration procedure on a tiny 5505 and neither licensing features nor the configuration (the command sintax) were affected by this process. I know this is something to care about if you go to 8.3, but this is not my case.I browsed the release notes of 8.2(5) and no special disclaimer was found by me with respect to this release. So everything should work just fine, but I would like to double check for input with respect to these two subjects:

1.Will the licensed features (vpn, concurrent connections, etc) be preserved?
2. Will the configuration be preserved ?

Cisco Firewall :: ACL Hit Count Not Real In Asa 8.2

Mar 6, 2011

ASA v 8.2What does the ACL hit count count ? I always thought that the acl hitcount counted the numbers of packets hitting that line in the ACL, however that is not the case. if I setup a icmp permit rule then that will only increment 1 even if I send 4 packets that hits the line. udp and tcp seems to do the same. is there some way I can make the ACL actually count the packets that hits ? where can I learn more about this ?

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 9.1 Access-list / Real IP Addresses?

Feb 26, 2013

So in the past from 8.2 down I had one to one NATs like so

static (inside,outside) A.A.A.A B.B.B.B netmask 255.255.255.255

but for 9.1 im running now I need to do this

object network obj-B.B.B.B
host B.B.B.B
nat (inside,outside) static A.A.A.A

So if I make an ACL to permit outside public access to the public IP (A.A.A.A) in 9.1 do I use real B.B.B.B ip address or the object itself obj-B.B.B.B?

Cisco Firewall :: 5540 - NAT / PAT Two Private IP's To One Real On Same Port

Nov 25, 2012

I have the following situation. A colleagues installed a spam block (Norton something) and he put two ip's on itsinterfaces. 192.168.2.20 and 192.68.2.21. One will be used to receive and one to send mail but both on port 25. They use a sinlge real IP 175.75.67.32. I am using a 5540 ASA with 8.2 IOS.

I am pretty sure this cannot happen but i got some advice to NAT the outgoing IP/Port and then PAT the incoming port to both IP's and it will work. I tried to do it with no success. I know that  ASA 8.4 changes everything in NAT/PAT but is there any way with the newer OS my setup can work or not?

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5510 Real Time Logs Showing Incorrect Ports

Oct 17, 2012

I have an issue on an ASA 5510 that I have noticed today, when I am using the log viewer all of the information recorded only shows the high end source and destination ports.  For example

Source IP 10.10.4.69
Source Port 59886

Destination IP 8.8.8.8
Destination Port 59866

So what seems to be happening is that I am seeing only half of the connection in the log viewer, I see the side with the high end ports and not the side with the ports the application uses, this example was done with a ping. All my services are working correctly and the client sending the ping gets the response expected, it just seems I have lost the logging display?
