Cisco WAN :: Nexus 5000 - Viewing MAC Table In NX-os?
Feb 12, 2012I am looking how to see the mac table on a Nexus 5000 switch running NX-OS and confirm the mac address on a certain port. Similar to the Sh mac-address-table in IOS and sh cam in Cat-os.
I am sure this is simple I just cannot find the command.

Sep 14, 2010I've configured ip dhcp snooping on several vlans I want to monitor and the binding table doesn't seem to be building.eature DHCP is on, global ip dhcp snooping is enabled, VLAN snooping is enabled on the vlan's I want to monitor and my trusted interfaces are also configured. Alas no binding entries in the table! 7K is running 4.2(6).

Aug 30, 2012I have run into a very strange problem while doing pre-deployment vPC/STP testing in the lab with a pair of Nexus 7000s.
The basic configuration is as follows:
2x Nexus 7000 VDCs (ver 6.0(4)) are configured as vPC peers and connected with a vPC peer-link (redundant on different 10G blades) and a vPC peer-keepalive link. The switches also act as HSRP and EIGRP routers. The N7K-A switch is nominally configured as STP root and HSRP prime for all VLANs, N7K-B switch is STP backup root and HSRP secondary. STP version is PV-RSTP+. As it stands now STP root and vPC prime are on different switches, STP root is on N7K-A and vPC prime is on N7K-B.
3x Layer-2 access switches (3750-1, 3750-2, 3560-1) are configured as access switches and connected to the Nexus 7Ks with a 1G uplinks in V-pattern.
3750-1 and 3560-1 are configured for vPC as Port-Channel10 and Port-Channel12 respectively. 3750-2 is configured for STP. Vlan 35 is shared between all three switches and is enabled on the vPC peer-link (overlapping vPC and STP domains). The downlink port to the STP-only 3750-2 on N7Ks is configured as "vpc orphan suspend".
Everything seems to work fine and pings on VLAN 35 between access switches (that have mgmt interfaces in VLAN35) recover rapidly after failures. However, if I break the vpc peer-link the ping between the two vPC switches 3750-1 and 3560-1 stops. Moreover, this appears to be sporadic in nature with some vpc peer-link failure attempts recreating the problem and some not. Sometimes the problem manifests itself when the peer-link is brought back up rather than taken down.
After doing a bit of troubleshooting, I have isolated the problem to MAC address blackholing. Basically when the peer link is taken down, MAC Address table on the vPC primary switch, N7K-B, (I believe during vPC convergence) forces the traffic destined from 3750-1 to 3560-1 through the STP only switch 3750-2, which apparently goes through the RSTP convergence and enables its alternate link to N7K-B before vPC has finished its convergence. After vPC convergence is finished the path through the STP-only access layer switch 3750-2 no longer exists, as vPC will take down all vPC ports and suspend orphan ports on the vPC secondary switch (N7K-A). However the MAC Address table on N7K-B still points through the 3750-2 access layer switch instead of directly through Port-Channel 12 on N7K-B and thus creates a traffic blackhole. Issuing a ping or bouncing SVI interfaces on N7K-B fixes the problem.
Cisco :: Getting Mac-address-table Through SNMP On 1811
Jan 26, 2010trying to fetch the equivalent of the mac-address-table on a 1811 with SNMP. I want a mapping between active MACs to a port ifIndex (not a VLAN interface ifIndex).
- I've snmpwalked every MIBs on this device (including all the proprietary MIBs supported by the IOS)
- I've upgraded to latest IOS from the 12.4(24)T series and also tried latest from 12.4(15)T series
- I am aware of the community index (@ sign in read-only community to split per vlan)
- I've exhausted all my google skills
On 29xx, 35xx, we obtain that information using the BRIDGE-MIB, community indexing and the following OID:

Dec 6, 2011I have 3750E swiches with IOS v. 12.2(55)SE3. Couple servers connect to ths switch, after ping of IP this servers I can see mac addresses in mac address table.
For instance:

When ip generate traffic to this server this mac address appear in table again on shot time (less than 10 seconds).

Feb 27, 2013We are running LMS Prime 4.2.3 on a Softappliance. We have a Cisco Switch behind a Non Cisco Layer-3 Device. In the end host tabe we see only the MAC-Addresses of the host connected to this switch. No IP-Address. The corresponding IP-Addresses are in the ARP-Table of this non Cisco Layer-3 Device. The arp table can also be read by snmp. Is it possible to get the ip address in the UT End Host Table in such an environment?

As u see above , the inetrface Gi0/6 , Gi0/7 are connected directly to linux server by two redundent links .
I mean that Gi0/6 is connected to interface0 in linux server
and Gi0/7 is connect to interface interface1 in linux server

Gi0/7===>vlan 2
each interface of linux server has a different ip and different gateway .
Now from switch, I make ping to interface 0 of linux server and i have a reply , every thing is ok but when i type the command :
#sh mac address-table | i Gi0/6
There is no Mac addresses and seems no Mac address relative to Gi0/6, I mean that doesn't it mandatorty to learn the mac address of linux server and write in mac table relative beside interface Gi0/6 ? How I could ping the server but no mac beside Gi0/6 ?

What is a routed mac entry? Are there any issues with running that mac aging-time command?
We also plan to run this command "mac-address-table aging-time 14400" to keep our ARP and CAM tables on the same aging time to reduce unicast flooding on our network. Can we run this command with the "routed-mac" command above?

Jul 31, 2011I volunteer at a school who just purchased two 48 port SGE2010 managed switches. I am not a big fan of the web gui and was hoping to see the standard Cisco command prompt instead of the menu-type interface.
Is there a way to view the MAC table showing which MAC address is plugged into which port on the switch? I have been fighting with the menu and the gui for a while now and do not see this anywhere.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Nexus 7000 Not Generating Log For Duplicate IP Address?
Sep 19, 2011Recently I had came across 1 issue where one of the server IP had conflicted with VIP of Nexus core switch. The blade server was physically connected to Nexus Distribution switch which in turn connects to Nexus core. Neither Nexus core nor distribution had generate any logs in regards to IP conflict which ideally happens on Cisco catalyst switches. I haven't find any document on cisco as well as on internet for this issue . I dont know what logging need to enable on Nexus for this specific case . There are different logging levels define for every feature like hsrp, ip,monitor etc...

Jan 22, 2013I have a strange behavior between a WLC 5508 (version 7.0.116.0) and NEXUS7010.
WLC
The WLC is configured in DHCP Bridging Mode (it sends DHCP requests without change)
Nexus
The VLAN interface is configured as follows
interface Vlan501

no ip redirects
ip address 10.12.56.4/21
ip ospf network broadcast
ip router ospf 100 area 10.23.0.0
hsrp 51
Clients can not obtain an IP address intermittently. If I deactivates the ACL when the problem appears(when the client can not obtain an IP@) the probleme is resolved
Note: Before the WLC was connected to Catalyst 6500 and worked properly for 2 years (with same configuration)
I saw this note about differences between DHCP relay on the NEXUS7000/NXOS an Ip helper one the 6500/IOS URL. Do you think the problem may come from the DHCP relay or ACL on the NEXUS.
Cisco Switching/Routing :: Nexus 7010 New Users Were Not Getting Ip Address From Dhcp Server
Jun 8, 2013We have 2 nexus 7010 switches configured with HSRP in the network. For all the vlans core1 is Master and Core2 is standby. In the current setup we have external dhcp server and dhcp relay is configured for all the vlans on Master and standby switch. The setup is running the IOS 5.2
Activity Done: During the Maintainacne activity, we isolated core1 switch in the network by disabling the vpc/keepalive and all the uplinks from access switch. The core2 switch was master for all the vlans.
Issue observed: It has been observed that new users were not getting ip address from the dhcp server. The ethereal capture showed that dhcp server was not getting the dhcp requests from the core2 switch. We disabled the dhcp feature in core2 and enabled again with dhcp relay again configured on vlan interfaces .even after doing this no change was observed in behaviour. Finally we got core1 back in network by enabling all the links.
Observation: The moment VPC link came up between the core switches, users started getting ip's from dhcp. Then we started enabling all the uplinks on core1.Core1 again become master for all the vlans and users continued getting ip’s. Network running fine.
Further Testing
1. For one of the vlan, core 2 switch has been made primary and for new users checked the dhcp functionality and it was working fine. The aim was to identify if anything wrong on core 2 related to dhcp relay
2.Again we changed the priority for this vlan and made core1 master for the same. This time we disabled this vlan on core1 and tried new user with core 2 became master and dhcp functionality worked fine for new user. Actually in this case we have simulated the same behaviour when we observed the issue with only difference of VPC was not available during the issue time as core 1 was isolated form network
Inputs needed.
Is there any known behaviour for dhcp functionality when VPC is unavailable? If we see the test scenario2 (wherein core1 was master for the vlan and we disable this vlan on core 1 and core 2 was able to relay dhcp requests for new users in this vlan.) it was actually same as scenario we observed during issue time..

Dec 9, 2012We have recently upgraded oor LAN and we are using couple of Nexus5548UP switches in the core with 2960 stacks as access switches. Each access switches stack is connnected to both core switches with link being port-chanels and VPCs. All is working fine, but our SolarWinds management platform (NPM) is being flooded with "Physical Address changed" events. Here is an example of messages:
NSW_Core_2 - Ethernet1/7 Physical Address changed from 000000003811 to 73616D653811
NSW_Core_2 - Ethernet1/7 Physical Address changed from 200B82B43811 to 000000003811
For each interface I have messages like these repeating.I am not sure what those messages means or if there is actually anything wrong. Performance of the network is good, there are no errors on any interfaces and I do not see anything related in the switch loggs.

Feb 4, 2013We have a BGP / OSPF configuration as shown in the topology picture. When the connection towards Internet is taken down, we expect the traffic to be forwarded toward WAN 2 (preferred) or WAN 1. The problem is that the BGP learned routes disappears when the Internet connection is taken down. The IP routing table on R2 only shows internal networks and the networks between R2 and WAN 1 and 2. No routes to internet is shown. We run "show ip bgp neighbors <ip-to-wan-1-router> received-routes" it contain internet routes. And when we run "show ip bgp neighbors <ip-to-wan-1-router> routes" it contains no routes at all.
