Cisco Routers :: RV220W - Restrict Access To One Web Address Only?
Oct 12, 2011
We will be opening a shop with a number of computers available to the public connected to the Web via one ISP with fixed IP using a RV220W router.
We wish to restrict web access to our company's web site only, say 'OurCompany.com'; how can we code this in the router?

I just received my rv220w and perhaps I haven't got enough experience with cisco routers. How can I restrict traffic between different VLANs?
For example: Hosts in one VLAN shall only be allowed to access a web server in another VLAN. All other traffic should be blocked. I've created two VLAN with Inter VLAN Routing enabled. But it seems there's no way to install a firewall rule between VLANs.

We have a wifi router RV220W and we need to filter the mac address. The problem is that the number of the "allowed" devices is around 50 (not all connected at the same time), but the maximum number of mac address which can be listed in this router for each VLAN is 20, so for the moment we set 3 VLAN, each one with a different mac adderss list. This is very awkward because the area to be covered by the wifi network is large and we need repeaters, but having 3 VLAN we should put 3 repeaters for each point. Is there any way to configure this router in order to have a single VLAN but with a mac address filter list of 3 x 20 mac address?

We have purchased an RV110W and I need to restrict internet access to the entire internet with the exception of 4 websites that are required for employees to do their jobs. I need to do this on 3 specific machines, not the entire network. I have looked at the internet access and schedule management pages of the router and just can seem to figure out how to do this.

I think I'm missing a basic step here. In setting up a RV220W device behind either a cable modem or a DSL modem, the address that is being returned is not the public IP address of the modem, but rather the private IP address assigned by the modem to the RV220W. Doesn't matter for normal web access but trying to set up a VPN tunnel fails due to the inaccurate IP address.
If I do the same thing but use the dyndns.com application on a computer behind all of this (connected on the private LAN of the RV220W via cable), it reports the external IP address correctly. That works in some locations if I have an always on computer to load the application to. In some cases, however, there isn't such a computer to leave dedicated to running the separate program.
Since this works, and the RV220W doesn't, there is some difference between the Cisco implementation and the dyndns.com implementation.
So, is there a way to get the RV220W to return the true external IP address, or is it stuck returning a private address?

For some strange reason I'm getting the error "WAN IP should not be a network address" when I type in an IP address under the Static IP Settings section in the "IP Address" field. My client has a static IP from his ISP and I'm trying to set it up on the router. I've updated to the latest firmware 1.0.4.17 but still the same error.
I'm not copying and pasting the address, I'm typing it in. There is no extra spaces or anything. What is this glitch? I could save the router settings and reset it and try that but I'm doing this all remotely and would rather not have to make another trip to do this onsite.

I was trying to set a DHCP pool with 127.16.0.0/16 with RV220W, however, RV220W UI can't save it. It displays "IP Address Range -"Step to reproduce: (it is 100% reproducible)
1. login into RV220W admin web
2. Create a VLAN, id 201
3. Go to "Multiple VLAN subnets", select the VLAN, click edit
4. Enter following info:
IP Address: 172.16.0.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0
DHCP Mode: DHCP Server
Domain Name: Cisco
Starting IP Address: 172.16.2.100
Ending IP Address: 172.16.10.254
Primary DNS Server: 172.16.0.1
Leave rest of settings with default value.
DNS proxy is enabled
5. Press Save button. The UI shows text "IP Address Range -".
Expected result: RV220W shall save the setting and make use of 172.16.0.0 subnet in IP pool. By the way, the error message "IP Address Range -" seems incompleteI tried same setting on netgear FVS318N (very similar settings to RV220W), it accepts 172.16.0.0/16 as DHCP IP pool and works.RV220W has great feature set meets my needs. Its UI is slow and sometime dashboard freezes, which I can live with comparing to features. But DHCP server IP pool can't be class B is huge limitation to me.

We have 2 sites connected thru 2 RV220W routers via VPN and most things are working fine. I have noticed however, that any device that has a web interface, i.e. our Sharp Copier and our Freenas server, is inaccessible. The page tries to come up but then I get the Cisco "server is down" page generated by the RV220W.
I can pull up the web interface pages if I use a machine on the local LAN but not on any machine across the VPN. The only commonality I can think of is the RV220W blocking that traffic for some reason..

I have created 7 QuickVPN users on router and on QuickVPN client. They all work except two. Have deleted and reinstalled on router and in QuickVPN to no avail. Changing the user name by one letter works (eg user NameVPN doesn't work, but NameVP does). Somehow router (I think) is not releasing user credentials/policies (which seems to agree with log). I have rebooted router.

Using QuickVPN from one RV220W to another RV220W I cannot access the Webpage of the remote router. Goes to "CERTIFICATE NOT VALID" then click through that, and the the login page will not come up. Sceen flashes a hint of blue background, then turns white, then just sits there saying "Waiting for response from ???.???.QuickVPN will sucessfully connect and I can use all computers behind the router. Just cannot access the Webpage of the remote router. I can access the Webpage of the local router. Also, when I hookup using QuickVPN from an "Internet Cafe" that is using a Netgear router. I can then access the webpage on both remote routers (of course, depending on whom I QuickVPN'd into at the time).

I have called Cisco on this with no luck. They said to update my JAVA. I am currently JRE 6 Release 30 and still no luck. The Log files reveal nothing and are darn near unreadable since there is no line breaks in the log file. Have to manually edit the log to pick stuff out.

I need to add some rules to block some attacks. I can add them fine but they get added to the end of the list. I try to re-order the rules to put them at the top and can not. I am using Internet Exploder 8 and I put a checkmark on the rule I want to move then click the reorder button. It takes me to a screen that shows 0 rules. I click the Back button and am back at the list of rules on that page. I am running the latest firmware which is from a year ago.

I have a Cisco rv220w. I just tried updating the firmware. I used RV220W-Firmware-1.0.3.5.img. It rebooted, and now there is no DHCP and no access to anything. I tried the reset button for 10 seconds. That didn't do anything. The WAN and all the LAN lights light up. Power is on and solid. The light blinks alternating between the DMZ and the blank space to the right of wireless. How can I get this back to factory defaults?

I am trying to configure my network so that VPN traffic is only routed to a single physical port on the RV180 or to a certain subset of devices on a network.
I have a site-to-site vpn setup in a home office and am connecting to the corporate network. The user has a couple of devices running on the home network that need access to the corporate network.
We are hoping to leave his PC accessible to his home network as well as the corporate network, but restrict other devices from accessing the vpn.
I beleive I could do it by playing with the subnet but I can't get my head around it.

I have two offices connected with an IPSEC VPN tunnel using RV220W routers. The Tunnel works fine for local users between the two sites(Site 1:10.0.0.x; site 2 is 10.0.2.x). I have also set up PPTP users for remote access. PPTP users that connect to site 1 cannot access site 2 and vice versa. The PPTP users have no trouble accessing the resources on the site that they connect to. I have tried activating RIP and adding various static routes with no success. If I PPTP connect to site 1 and I tracert to an IP address on site 2 the route goes to the site 1 router and then goes to the internet(connected to the site 1 router) where it stops.

I was wondering how to tighten the security of my email delivery to a range of ip addresses (I know how on my old firewall but the cisco is quite a bit different). Right now anyone sending email to a particular ip address on my firewall can do so. I want to restrict that to two ip address ranges it will accept deliver from. I'm thinking I need two network objects for the two ranges then add to a network object group. Configuring the ACL for delivery using that group if I'm correct about that ?

In our neighborhood we have about 10 residents on a LAN controlled by 1 resident. For connection I have a LAN modem which connects wirelessly to an aerial at resident 1. I have 2 computers one with Win 7 Ultimate and one with XP SP3. Thinking incorrectly that I was setting up a home network, in trying to get my 2 PC's to talk to one another I have permissions set up for everyone on both machines. However I have discovered that now all 10 residents can see my 2 PC's. While I can see both PC's from either machine, in trying to change the "Everyone" to restrict access to the names of each of the 2 pcs only, I can only see users and Administrator on that particular machine only and cannot add a user/name of the other PC. How can I stop the other residents from seeing my machine but allow me to see either of my machines from one another?

I have joined my ACS box to the domain and can auth users in active directory groups. I thought about this somewhat and would prefer to only use AD users in ACS groups. Is this possible, I can only seem to do local users in local groups and AD users in AD groups. Many people have access to AD so I don't want anyone to be able to move users in and out of AD groups and get access to equipment.

I want to get away from configuring split tunneling for security reasons. With Split tunneling and I am able to specify to which subnets the clients have access to. I do it defining "Network Lists"
When I modify the group and select "tunnel everything" under "client config" tab, the users then can access all subnets in the LAN. When I select this option the "Split tunneling network list" is grayed out
End goal is to make all traffic go thru the tunnel but be able to resctrict access to speficic subnets.

got myself the Netgear internal PCI wifi adapter today & it works just fine on my Windows XP SP3 desktop.
The only problem I have is the question of restricting access to kids @ home. If it was an external USB adapter, I could have just taken it away but the concern is the device being an internal & always available one. The user configuration on the PC is such that there is 1 main administrator (The actual windows "administrator" account) that no one uses. Apart from that,
- 1 user with admin privileges (me)
- 1 limited account for the kid
- 1 admin privilege account for the kid again (for purposes like installation of games which require an admin account as mandatory)
I would like for the wifi PCI card to work only when I login to my account. There must be someway by which I could disable the device or make the internet inaccesible in the other accounts,, (but pls bear that 1 of the account that the kid uses also has admin privilege)
I tried disabling the device from control panel but in vain.. (tried something like the sys admins do in corporates ..) disabling the usb ports on the PC's in my office..!

I would like to restrict Internet traffic (HTTP & HTTPS) for Inside Users with an ASA 5505. I would like to setup a proxy-like system where a User/Password must be entered before the User can actually browse the web.
I know that this can be done with an additional RADIUS/TACACS+ Server. Is this also possible without any external AAA Server, so with User/PW stored on the ASA locally only?
