Cisco Switches :: SLM2008 - Filters Out DHCP Discover
Sep 16, 2012
I'm new on this site and having SLM2008 switches. I've been trying to solve the problem for quite a while, but so far I was unable to solve it. So here it is:
I'm trying to send IP TV from ADSL box (aka Free box) located in a small annexe of the house where the telephone line enters. Whole house is wired with 1Gb CAT6 cable. I'm using this wiring to get internet connectivity in different parts of the house and this works great. Now the idea was to create a separate VLAN on my 3 SLM2008 switches to get IP TV stream from ADSL box to the media box (also provided by ISP, aka Freebox HD). Different V LAN configs did not work for me: Free box HD would stuck on boot claiming it doesn't "see" the network. So then I've decided to go from simple things to more complex and removed the V LAN (came back to default config) and connected ADSL box with Free box HD with just one SLM2008 in between. Surprisingly it did not work! Same error on Free box HD! So I plugged the hub and started my Wire Shark to see what is going on.
First tried without the switch (just with a hub in the middle) and I saw successful connection:
1) Freebox HD send DHCP Discover
2) ADSL box responds with DHCP Offer
3) HD sends DHCP Request
4) ADSL issues a DHCP lease
Free box HD is ready to show any channel from ISP.
Secondly I plugged SLM2008 back and looked at traffic right after ADSL box: No DHCP packets seen at all! Then I moved hub next to Free Box HD and I saw it keep sending DHCP Discover every 30 seconds or so.... And it was not getting reply back.
So my conclusion is that SLM2008 for yet unknown reason would not let DHCP discover pass.... I've tried un managed Net Gear switch and *boom* Free box HD booted without a problem. I looked through SLM2008 settings and I have not found something relevant.
How to make my switch pass DHCP discover? If yes my next question would be how to configure V LAN on 3 switches to make it deliver IP TV to my TV set.

I have just attempted to load the latest firmware on an SLM2008, everything appeared to work as expected BUT, the switch is no longer pingable on its static IP doesn't appear to have attempted get an address via DHCP. I have attempted power cycling the switch but it has made no difference. The switch is still switching but I have no management any more. What to do next ?

I had a SG200-8/SLM2008TNA switch that I was using on my lab network (192.168.9.x)One of my clients had an emergency so I moved the switch to their network (10.1.2.x)I can't see the switch at all! Cisco FindIt toolbar won't discover it (other switches on the client network are discovering OK)I changed my computer's IP to the range where the switch used to live...still can't find it I also don't see any new devices in DHCP with cisco-looking MAC addresses.Of course, the SG200-8 doesn't have its MAC address printed anywhere on it, and doesn't have a factory reset button. It's passing traffic OK but I was hoping to get it configured via web console and set for SNMP monitoring. how to discover/reset IP/factory reset this thing?

Which transmit hash policies are supported by the SLM2008? I can't find this information in any of the documentation for this switch, all that is stated is that it supports Link Aggregation using IEEE 802.3ad LACP. I'm connecting to a Netgear ReadyNAS Pro that supports Layer 2 and Layer 3+4 transmit hash policies and I'm not sure which to choose (or whether it matters).

I have the E3000 wired/wireless router and want to be able to manage my two SLM2008 switches with 192.168.1.253 and .254. Following the guides with adding vlan 2 and tagging the ports in which the two switches are wired together disables my ability to manage them seperately. I have added the gateway on 192.168.1.1 to both switches and told them that management vlan is 2 but no luck accessing them still.

I'm looking at creating WLANs using standalone APs for the first time. I know this can all be done with trivially a controller, but this project can't stretch to that...Can I use MAC filtering on standalone APs to restrict which clients associate?I think these will be 1240AG devices but I assume the answer is the same for all models? Can I mix MAC filtering with WEP/WPA? And use MAC filtering without encryption?

My company uses a pair of 5510 ASAs as the gateway to Internet. I once configured policy-map to filter certain webpages (facebook, twitter, ...etc) and they work fine. However nowdays those websites all support HTTPS. In the https the URL seems encrypted so can't do regex match... Is there anyway that I can still block those webpages?
Another two ways I can think of are
1. Block IPs (don't really want do this unless absolutely necessary)
2. Block DNS for the URL (however they can work around by setting static DNS entries)

We have a mix of 1231 and 1242 access points in an LWAPP environment. They are connected to WiSM controllers in our 6509's and are managed by a central WLC. Everything is running version 7.0.230. My question is can I apply MAC address filtering on a select group of AP's to restrict access to a specific SSID broadcast on these AP's without affecting other AP's also connected to the same WiSM?

I have two sets of local users who access internal networks vai the Anyconnect application on a Cisco ASA 5505.One user needs to access 1 ip address while about 7 users access abotu 4 addresses.
I have a group called xyz1 which currently has the one user in the connection profile. I guess to reaffirm my thought, If I create another connection entry called xyz2, can I assign the other 7 or 8 users to it?
If I can do this, how can I ensure that each connection entry only has access to specific IP addresses on the internal network?

We are a small business that just bought a Cisco 1921 ISR. I am trying to set it up right now but I cannot get CCP to discover it. I am new to Cisco products and IOS.The router is currently set up in a test environment with a USB connection to a Win7 PC for console management. I also have the PC connected to gigabit ethernet port 0/1. I am using putty to access the console which I did with no problem for the initial configuration. After that I thought I would be okay to discover the router with CCP using the IP address I specified but then it prompted me for a username/password which I didn't see in the initial configuration. After this I did some research and found out I needed to set up a few more things so I ran the following commands: [code]
After this the video I was watching said to go in to CCP and specify the IP address or hostname of the router and use the login info that was just created admin/pw. When I ran the discovery I got the failure message: Connection to the device could not be established. Either the device is not eachable or the HTTP service is not enabled. When I run 'show ip interface' I notice 'Router Discovery disabled" is this why it is not working? How can I enable this or what else am I missing here? Am I not connecting to the router correctly? Oh and just for reference our plan is to have this router set up as a VPN gateway and firewall with 2 WANs for redundancy and connecting to our switch via an HWIC SFP for fiber.

i have 2504 controller with 7.0.116.0 software and some 3502 APs. I also using 5 APs now and few days ago I bought some additional 3502 APs and I can't get them connected to the controller. My company admins decided to using DNS controller discovery instead of using DHCP option 43. I'm connecting APs to access ports of Linksys switches and APs not in the same subnet as ap-manager interface of controller. AP succesfully get IP and DNS from DHCP and could ping cisco-capwap-controller. However, I have such messages.

I have Windows 7 64 Bit Pro PC connected directly to the router via Ethernet. This is I will call Ethernet Connection 1.I also have a Windows XP Pro SP3 computer connected to the same router but via a wireless connection.I have both PC's connected together via an Ethernet cable. This I will call Ethernet Connection 2.It all works fine, but I only want my PC's to communicate via Ethernet connection 2.Currently, if I disconnect the Ethernet cable between the computers I can still access the files on the Windows 7 computer via the wireless connection on the Windows XP computer.I've tried to see if this is discoverable by other people using the router by installing Ubuntu on the Windows XP machine and looking at the available networks. Lo and behold, my Windows 7 machine is discoverable and accessible - albeit by a password. This is with the Ethernet cable between the computers unplugged.I have both networks on the Windows 7 machine set to public and all sharing options switched to off. Both computers have the same workgroup name. Worryingly I can still connect to the Windows 7 machine via Ubuntu wirelessly without even using the same workgroup name! All I want to do is connect the two computers via Ethernet Connection 2. I don't want any sharing information going to the router too and hence other poeple being able to see it. Ethernet Connection 1 on the Windows 7 machine is for the internet only (same as for the wireless connection on the XP machine).

Using a command prompt, how do I discover the internal IP of an unused router, which I set to a custom value and forgot? The router is not currently in use for internet access. I would like to access the control panel of the router without resetting it.I attached my netbook to the router with an RJ45 cable and disabled the netbook's wireless adapter to avoid conflicts with my current network. Using an elevated command prompt, I did an "ipconfig /release", rebooted and ran "ipconfig /all", but the gateway entry is blank. An "arp -a" returns 169.254.190.120 as the only interface. A "netstat -a" returns 169.254.190.120:xx...'s, 127.0.0.1:xx...'s, and 0.0.0.0:xx...'s, but no router internal IP address. Is there a way discover the attached device without resetting?

I am unable to discover 2 Nexus 5548 with the SAN client of DCNM 5.2(2e)
These Nexus are used like LAN and SAN switch. Each Nexus is a SAN fabric. I would want to use DCNM in order to configurate the zone/zoneset via GUI. These Nexus 5548 run 5.1(3)N2(1b) release.
The Nexus ARE NOT managed via the Mgmt interface (OOB) but they are managed via an interface vlan (InB)
I could not configure rightly
- the snmp-server user (SNMP user V1/v2 or V3 + group ? ) CLI on Nx
- to configure the discovery in order that DCNM discover each fabric either from web GU interface or java SAN client

I have a 2620 Cisco Router plugged into a 2924 Cisco switch by a trunk. The vlan configuration works, I subdivide my router interface with dot1q and have virtual machines on different vlans and everything works perfectly. The problem comes with a DHCP request.Let's say that I have my local lan on the native VLAN 1. I create a VLAN 25 in the switch and create a fa0/0.25 in the router. In the switch, I plug the cable modem from my ISP in a port on vlan 25In the router, I go to fa0/0.25 and issue "ip address dhcp".The DHCP request goes out, but never comes back. The problem seems to be in the switch because if I try the same thing with a virtual machine I have on a trunked VMWare ESXi server, I get the exact same results. I just don't get the IP address from the ISP.The next step would be to monitor the port on which the cable modem is connected and sniff the packets to see if the DHCP request actually gets back through.

I have an SG300-10 and an SG200-26. I also have an OpenWRT flashed router that can tag VLANs.My problem right now is that my default VLAN is 1, my router is doing DHCP in VLAN 1, and I want all my network equipment to be on VLAN 1, but my SG200, when LAGed to the SG300, will not get an IP.My SG300 is pulling an IP just fine from my router DHCP pool. When I connect the SG200 directly using either 1UP port settings or 1TP port settings, I get an IP just fine. When I LAG my connection (ports 1-3 on both) I get no DHCP information sent through the LAG to either the SG200, nor to any client devices that are set for DHCP.

I am having issues getting clients to DHCP off of a teamed adapter through the Cisco Switch. If I run a one to one cable from the server to the switch it works fine, but when I switch over to the Intel QuadNic in Team Mode then the PXE clients do not get a DHCP address from that server anymore.
I have configured the Team mode on the Windows Server 2008 R2 and given the and configured the LAG with the 4 plugs on the Cisco SG200-26 switch in the LAG Management. It says the link is up and if I give the client a static IP I can ping the server and the server can ping the switch.
