Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750 / IOS Upgrades In CiscoWorks Failing?

Feb 29, 2012

We have just under 500 switches in production (various models but for this discussion we'll stick with 3750's). All are currently running tar IOS (web based). We want to upgrade the IOS from c3750-ipbasek9-tar.122-55.SE1.tar to.122-55.SE5 but some of our switches do not have enough flash to upgrade successfully.  We use CiscoWorks to distribute our software upgrades. I know you can lower the flash requirements on the IOS in CiscoWorks, which I have done (changed from 16Mb down to 12Mb) and the upgrade still fails.

1) How far can I lower the flash installation requirements in Ciscoworks and what are the ramifications?

2) If we decide to change from the tar IOS version to the bin IOS version because we don't even use the web based features anyway, is there an easy way to do this?  (CiscoWorks will not upgrade an image from tar to bin)

Cisco Switching/Routing :: ASA 5505 - There Are No Upgrades Available / System Is Up To Date

I have seen this on 4 ASA devices:At devices running older versions than 8.4(5) it is possible to update to 9.1.1 but after updating to 8.4(5) the devices tells me that "There are no upgrades available, your system is up to date" when I "Check for ASA/ASDM updates". I downgraded one device to 8.4.4 and tried to upgrade to 9.1.1 but the update was unsuccesfull (could not boot).

Cisco WAN :: 3750 / Licensing Upgrades For Stacked Switches?

I have a 4 member stack of 3750's. We would like to take advantage of wccp and we understand that we will need to upgrade our switch licensing from IPBase to IPServices. My question is do we need to pay for a license for each member in the stack or does one IPServices license upgrade cover the whole stack?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: C2900 Inward NAT Failing

Nov 11, 2011

Previously posted as C2900 - inward NAT partial success...

Running C2900-UNIVERSALK8-M, Version 15.0(1)M3 RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc2)

I have several sets of inward NAT defined (51001-51007, 52001-52007. 53001-53007),all to various internal addresses. When I attempted to add another set, the new onesdo not work and get a "timeout" error.

When I tried port 51008, it gets a timeout.  When I changed 51008 to 51010, the 51010 now gets a timeout, and 51008 now gets "connection refused" (which I expect). The original sets all work, the new ones (added at the end of the lists) do not. When I am on any of the internal machines, the target (192.168.1.21) works fine. When I am "in the router", I can connect via the ssh command, so I know that therouter can talk to 192.168.1.21 on port 22 as expected.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: PXE Failing With DHCP On 4506?

Jun 11, 2012

We are attempting to PXE boot from clients obtaining their DHCP lease information from DHCP pools configured on our 4506.  The PXE server, and the client are configured in separate VLANs.  We have configured option 66 to point to the PXE server IP address, and the bootfile option to point to the PXE boot configuration filename.  On the client side SVI, we also have configured the ip helper-address command to point to the PXE server (which also acts as another DHCP server for redundancy).

The PXE boot continuously fails stating it is unable to find the configuration file.  If we remove the DHCP pool from the 4506, and allow the client to receive their DHCP lease info from the secondary server (Windows 2k8 - same server as PXE server), they PXE boot with no issues.

We have no problem obtaining DHCP info, just completion of the PXE process.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 4510 PoE Switches Keep Failing

Jun 11, 2013

We have an issue where switches are failing weekly in a switch closet.  In the past month we have gone through several 3750G switches and a couple 4510s.  The power supplies have eventually made a popping noise and had to be replaced.  on the 4510s we've tried two chassis and gone through several power supplies. The switches have been behind UPS systems so should be receiving conditioned power.Could load from the PoE devices really be causing this?  I wouldn't think it's power since they are behind a UPS.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: ASIC Chip Failing In Cat3750?

Jun 5, 2012

I've just noticed an error I've never seen before in our switch logs.  We have a stack of 6 Cat3750G-48TS-E switches.  The first two in the stack have been up for just over a year and I've only just noticed this error.  Thus far, I haven't noticed any symptoms - I just stumbled upon this error while checking for something else.

As far as I can tell, this has only popped up once and it was 2 days ago.  Unfortunately, due to an incorrect firewall rule, our syslogs were not getting to our syslog server so I don't have any historical logs to check against, but it hasn't happened since.

The error I've seen is as follows:-

Jun  5 17:04:03.288: * ManagementInterfaceInitialized exception in port-asic 0 (N16FujitsuSwitch.com.au-2)
Jun  5 17:04:03.288: ***********************************************************

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3560CG Failing To Open Ports?

Mar 30, 2013

I have a number of 3560CG-8PC-S switches. My intention for them is to act as kind of gateway L3 switches - one for each satellite site. My thinking was simply to have an L3 device at the gateway to each of those sites so that any inter-vlan traffic within each site can stay within the site rather than having to traverse the relatively slow radio links to get back to the 3750X stack in the core. They are also, however, going to be directly serving client devices

My issue is that for some reason, when connecting a new device (laptop etc) to one of the access ports on the 3560's, the port behaves as if it's being blocked. No DHCP addresses go through, the indicator remains orange, and the clients have no connectivity. However, if I wipe the config, I get a VLAN 1 IP address for my client no problems at all. And to make matters more confusing, only two out of my four 3560's are doing this. The other two have exactly the same config, but work perfectly. To that end, I'm loading the config below. I've followed that by the show running-config output, and show ip interface brief outputs.

configure terminal
hostname ASW34
!
enable secret *RuT1l3&
service password-encryption

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Replacing 3750 24 Port With 3750 48 Port?

May 21, 2012

We have a stack of switches that is at the max number of members allowed in the stack. Problem is we are running out of port density and need to add more ports. So instead of adding a whole new stack I would rather replace 2 of the 24-port swicthes with 48-port switches.

If the two 24-port swicthes we are removing are stack members and neither of them are the stack master, I should be able to replace the 24-port switches with the 48-port switches without bringing the master offline? If the new 48-port switches are running the same IOS version as the current 24-port swicthes, they should add themselves to the stack?Would I have to tell the new 48-port swicthes what switch numbers they are replacing in order for them to be added to the stack since we are at the max number of members? Also since the 48-port swicthes are replacing 24-port switches will the master give the 48-port switches the configuration for only the 24-ports?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Multiple VLAN Routing Tables For 3750 Catalyst

Oct 24, 2012

I have a network with a Catalyst 3750 as the main switch and then some Catalyst 2960 switches that are plugged in to that. I have a server running windows server 2008 with a couple of virtual machines running in Hyper-V. I created 4 VLANS listed below and gave the 3750 the following IP Address.I would like the 3750 to only be configurable from VLAN 40 but currently every VLAN can connect to it, I noticed in the standard web page settings there was a setting for "Management VLAN" but it was set to 1 and would not let me change it, I kinda assumed that was for the management port in the back.-Now the tricky part, I was trying to set up routing between the VLANs and so far I have only been able to get a sort of "all or nothing" routing to work. I can turn IP routing on and add two or more VLANs to the routing and it works fine. But what I was hoping to do is create a couple of "junction vlans" that would only route to one or two other vlans. For instance, I wanted to create a VLAN 100 that routed to VLAN 20 and 30 but nothing else. I also want to route VLAN 1 just to VLAN 30, and so on. I am able to do each one of the cases but only one, it seems like the switch only supports one "routing table" am I missing something or is this just a limitation of the switch?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Catalyst 3750 Multi-cast VLAN Routing

Oct 28, 2012

I have a network with several catalyst 2960 switches and one catalyst 3750. I have created two VLAN and set up the proper routing and everything is working fine there. I have a client/server application that used multicast in the initial start up for the client to determine available servers, the issue is one of my clients is on a different VLAN then the server. I am able to route the multicast using MVR as long as both the server and the client are plugged into the 3750 by creating a static route, making the server a source port and the client a receive port. Unfortunately I need the client and the server plugged in to different 2960s. My question is how do I establish multicast routing between the two and perferably do it dynamically (always route multicast traffic from one VLAN to another).

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Inter-VLan Routing On Catalyst 3750 Switch

Dec 17, 2011

I have been looking into this for a while and I can't seem to figure out why my 2nd vlan is not able to connect properly to the net.

My switch has 12 ports where my devices connects directly, they are all on Vlan 1 and they all work perfectly. on Port 12 I have a dlink router that is connected to a cable modem. the dlink router has an Ip address of 192.168.0.20

I created a second vlan (vlan2) and enabled dhcp relay on it. then I assigned port 9 on the switch to  (vlan2)my laptop which is connected to port 9 seems to get an ip address fine and able to ping only some devices on my network (vlan1) and is not able to go out to the internet.  I think it has to do with the routes. Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3825 / Replacing Routing Function With 3750 Switch?

Jul 27, 2012

I have the task of replicating the router config on a 3825 router on a 3750 switch. Reason is we are taking out the router and replacing it with the switch to make use of the router for other functions.

Below is main part of the router config:

!
ip source-route
ip cef
!
!
multilink bundle-name authenticated
!
license udi pid CISCO3825 sn FCZxxxxxxx
!
vlan internal allocation policy ascending

[code].....

The 3750 switch I have runs C3750E-UNIVERSALK9-M, Version 12.2(55)SE3 on a LAN BASE license.

The first thing I have done is to order for a license upgrade to IP BASE which would give the support for OSPF routing.I do not see much of an issue with the Interface configs, however, I am not too sure about replicating the routing config on the switch.

My question is can I run the commands as shown for the OSPF routing on the switch? If not, can I get suggestions on how best to set this up on the switch?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: InterVlan Routing With 3750 And 2960 Switches?

Nov 21, 2012

I am using a 3750 as a default gateway for multiple Vlans on a few 2960 switches. The trunk lines are configured and working and I have assigned ip addresses to each of the Vlan interfaces on the 3750. My issue is that I can only ping the ip address on the Vlan interface of the 3750 if I have a working computer plugged directly into the Vlan on the 3750. I only have 3 vlans on the 3750 that have hosts directly connected (vlans 2, 10 and 40) the other vlans ( 20 and 70) don't have any clients plugged into them on the 3750 but the hosts reside on 2 different 2960s that connect via trunk ports. How do I keep the vlan interface on the 3750 switch pingable when I don't have hosts directly connected in that vlan on the 3750? (yes, I have enabled ip routing on the 3750)

Created access list to identify traffic:

access-list 10 permit 10.2.3.59 (test workstation on vlan 3)

Created policy:

route-map TestASA permit 10
match ip address 10
set ip next-hop 10.2.0.3

Assigned policy to the user vlan3:

ip policy route-map TestASA

Results:It changed the default gateway to the above gateway but i could not access any resources on any other vlan, could not access resouces accross wan.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Cannot Reach Gateway Through Routing Switch (3750)

Mar 11, 2012

I'm running into what seems a basic ip routing config problem with a Catalyst 3750 (IP Base) switch. I have several VLANS configured on the switch with IP routing enabled, and the switch is connected to the inside interace of a new ASA 5520 as follows:

ASA5520 IP (Default gateway): 192.168.1.1Switchport Gi1/0/1 is configured as a routed port, IP address 192.168.1.3 255.255.255.0Example VLAN is VLAN 100, IP address 192.168.100.1 255.255.252.0 From the switch CLI, I can ping all VLAN addresses, as well as the ASA5520, and the client laptop I'm testing with from VLAN 100.

From the client laptop on VLAN 100, I can ping all switch interface and VLAN addresses (inter-VLAN routing is working), including 192.168.1.3, but I CANNOT ping the default gateway at 192.168.1.1.

Here is the relevant configuration information on the 3750:
