Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750G Setup - Multicast Traffic Across Link

Jan 12, 2012

I am having trouble getting some multicast traffic across a link.  I have a 3750G setup, with IP routing and IP multicast routing, between two laptops.  This will eventually sit between two networks that cannot be physically connected to each other for security reasons.  I have static joins on the ports but cannot see the multicast traffic on the receiver.  I am attaching the latest config.  The sender(10.10.4.2) sits on gi1/0/24 and the receiver(10.10.3.2) sits on gi1/0/1.  I am using VLC to test this and it will connect if I point the receiver to the address of the sender, but will not receive any multicast.  The multicast traffic is not making it to the 10.10.3 side, I used wire shark to verify that it was not making it across.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Ghost Multicast Versus 3750G

Feb 13, 2013

I manage a network with a ghost server, a 3750G, several outside access, and some vlans.This is a very simplify view of this network:

The ghost server is on all vlans connected to a trunk port on the 3750G which is used as a central switch and for basic routing.All equipements connected to vlans 1, 2 or 3 are on 2950 switchs themselves connected to the 3750G on dedicated access ports, each in there respective vlans.

All equipements connected to vlans 1, 2 or 3 have as gateway a vlan interface on the 3750. (10.0.x.3)All the vlan interfaces have route-maps applied on them to redirect traffic to their dedicated outside access.The route-maps match only traffic destinated to the outside.

Everthing is working well but the multicast.When I create a ghost session on the server, I can see computer connecting on it, but the multicast never start.If I use directed broadcast it works with good perfs, but the CPU processes of the 3750 go high because of the IP Input (Till 99%).If I remove the route map from the vlan interface which is on the ghosted network, the multicast works but with poor perfs.If I shutdown the vlan interface the multicast works well with good perfs.

It seems my problems are tied with the Vlan interfaces but I don't know why.

This is a sample of the config:

switch 1 provision ws-c3750g-24ts-1u
system mtu routing 1500
vtp domain SM
vtp mode transparent
ip routing

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750G / Switches Flooding Multicast Streams But IGMP Enabled?

Nov 3, 2011

I have a 2x Cisco 3750G switches (Stacked) that are part of an IP Video Surveillance System .All network is set to 1 VLAN (VLAN 1 default).The Cisco SWs ( Core )  are configured with IGMP Querier + Snooping .Connected to the Cisco SWs are 4 Fiber Rings(Loops)  for redundancy . RSTP and IGMP Snooping are enabled on all the network SWs .Network Architecture Figure :

When all Fiber Rings (Loops ) are connected , the Cisco and Ring SWs spanning-tree tables show the blocked and forwarding ports properly .I am able to connect all my IP Cams + Encoders to the Ring SWs and connect my Servers + WorkStations to the Cisco SWs to record and view the multicast ip streams .All streams from Rings 1 ,3 and 4 are getting normally to the Servers + WorkStations through multicast ( IGMP Snooping are filled correctly on the Cisco and non-Cisco SWs ) . All multicast streams are joined normally except for Ring 2 .The Multicast streams passing through Ring 2 will operate normally for around 2 hours then after that the Fiber SWs begin to flood their multicast traffic causing the cams on the same switch to drop off the network .

I checked the Configuration of all the SWs on Ring 2 but all are are the same .

What is weird is that I have to set all the streams to unicast to stop the flooding just on Ring 2 (All other rings are not affected ) then after some time if I enabled a video multicast stream on one of the SWs of the Ring it will be streamed properly to the Servers + WorkStations ( All IGMP tables along the way will be filled properly ) then again after 2 hours or so , the flooding will start again suddenly and all IGMP  table entries for the SW on Ring2 will be empty . No problem occurs on the other Rings which have more multicast streams .

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3560X Multicast Traffic Should Not Appear

Feb 18, 2013

I have a 3560X switch with interfaces 36-48 on the same LAN. All interfaces are switchports. Hosts on 38, 39 and 40 are multicast senders: all sending to the same single multicast address. Hosts on 36 and 37 are receivers, having joined that multicast group. I created an SVI for the LAN and put it in ip pim passive. (That is the only PIM mode allowed for an SVI with my IOS.) Show ip igmp snooping groups shows that 36 and 37 are the only interfaces in this group. I attach a laptop to interface 42 and Wireshark, and the laptop is receiving the multicast traffic. The laptop does not join the group. I expect it would not see the traffic.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3560x Stacking And Multicast Traffic

Dec 20, 2012

I am trying to resolve a situation where we need to send multiple (2 atleast) multicast feeds from a source to our multilayer switch (3560x).

The problem with the source is that it can only send a feed to a single switch at a given time. It can not send 2 (identical) feeds to two 3560x devices (on 2 different subnets/vlans). I was wondering if i could make the two 3560x devices appear as  1 device (using virtual  chassis system or a similar feature). I am running ip services IOS feature set (c3560e-universalk9-mz.122-58.SE2.bin).

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 2960 - Test Multicast Traffic

Dec 6, 2012

Attached setup i am planning for testing multicast output from different vendors using  VLC and STB.  This Setup made to test the picture quality between the vendors at the same time on the multi viewer screen.

1) Only a 2960 Gig port switch with only one L2 v lan with IGMP snooping enabled.
In this scenario where Source and receivers are in the same L2 v lan ( no L3 interface is involved) hope i would able to test all the multicast sources with out any additional configuration on the Cisco switch.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Multicast Setup On WS-3750-X

May 12, 2013

I've been handed a requirement to try and get a multicast server working on my setup. Trouble is, I don't know if I can with the feature set I have on my switches. What is desired is that a multicast server (stand alone, but network connected, obviously) be accessible by everyone on the local network (multiple V LAN's, multiple SVI's) in the building.

All users will be connected to the one switch stack, although some will want to be wireless (which is one of the separate V LAN's) - I don't care if the wireless requirement goes by the wayside - they can sod off. :-) The main purpose will be multicast, high quality video.

I have a single switch stack consisting of two (soon to be 3) WS-C3750X-48P switches running the IP BASE feature set.

Question - can I do this on IP BASE, or do I need to upgrade to IP SERVICES?

If I can do it on IP BASE, does anyone have any links/pointers to setup this properly? Currently installed IOS is 12.2(58)SE2.

Multicasting.  The configuration is I have a 6506 as my core switch receiving multicasts from an interface assigned to VLAN10.  I have a monitor port setup with a PC running Observer which says multicasts are being received on the core switch.  On a different interface on the core switch I have a 2960G switch connected to it and this interface is on VLAN 10.  The 2960G switch has a workstation connected to it that needs to receive the multicasts.  How do I configure the 6506 and/or the 2960G to process the multicast traffic?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Setup VLan To Allow Video Traffic Between 2960 And 3750?

We have four cameras feeeding one port each on a 2960, that 2960 in turn feeds one port on the main 2960 which is the video vlan for that site.  From the site it goes back to a Cisco 3750 to be sent over to a Sonicwall firewall. If we connect to the 2960 that the camera are connected to we can see the video, but not on the main site 2960.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: How To Setup Traffic Shaping On 4500X Outbound Port To WAN Routers

Mar 26, 2013

We have some ASR WAN routers which have a dedicated 400M interface to a remote site.

Servers on our Local network source the data through some firewalls via 10G interfaces, which connects to 4500X WAN switches then to the Routers on 1G links.

The sources are rate limiting the traffic but the routers are periodically dropping packets which I think is mostly due to burstiness in the traffic between as it traverses through from 10G links to 1G then to 400M.

How to setup traffic shaping on the 4500X outbound port to our WAN routers.I'd like to see if we could buffer and smoothe out the traffic as it exits the 4500X WAN switch 1G port to the WAN Routers.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3560 - HSRP Setup / S2 Active And Route Traffic From Internet To Client?

Jan 14, 2012

i have a strange issue with an HSRP Setup. I  have two (S1+S2) 3560 as Core/Distribution Layer. Inter-vlan routing are  enabled on both Switches. S1 and S2 are connected with an ether channel  over four fibre ports. S3 -S5 are the (L2) access layer.

Gi0/1 on S1 and S2 are L3 ports, connect to a Linux Firewall.

HSRP is enabled, S1 is the active router and the STP root bridge.

But, my monitoring via cacti show me, that the Gi0/1 on S2 is active, too! But it should not be active? Only if S1 fails, should S2 the active switch.A client from the access ports on S3 - 5 gets traffic from the Internet via Gi0/1 from S2. Gi0/1 on S1 is active too, but will send mostly traffic to the Internet. Why is S2 active and why route it traffic from the Internet to the client?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750G - Stack Switching Priorities Not Correct

I got Two Distribution Switches of Cisco 3750G. Each Distribution have two 3750G switches stacked. I also have one Cisco 3750V2 Access Switch connected to both Distribution. When I am checking for redundancy, I can only get redundancy test pass for one link not atall for other. If I have a link up with Distribution 1 only then its fine; but disappointment with Distribution 2 link. I can see that the switch priorities of Dist 2 is not correct ie. Master's priority is 10 and Member's is 15.

My question is that due to misconfigured priorities on Distribution 2 stack switches I am failing with redundancy if ONLY Dist 2 is up and Dist 1 is down.

Both hosts are vpc orphan ports as their NIC is configured in active/standby mode.I have configured span session on both vPC peers with span source as VLAN 10 in rx mode.Span destination is connected to secondary vPC peer. The issue here is that I am not able to capture the traffic originating from HOST A destined to HOST B which is traversing vPC peer-link.Same issue occurs for the traffic in reverse way and span destination on primary vPC peer. In a nutshell, any traffic which crosses vPC peer-link is not getting captured.

What could be the issue and is there any solution for it. Below mentioned is the span config and relevant interfaces. [code]

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Inter-VRF Routing / MP-BGP On 3750G

Jun 7, 2012

I've got a requirement to do Inter-VRF routing (need MP-BGP) using a private AS Number on a stack of 7 x 3750G's, my question ultimately is the performance overhead of doing such a change.

The stack will have no more than 300-400 routes even with the duplicates invoked from doing VRF leaking so I can't see much of an issue myself, we already have 2 VRF's and OSPF running in each VRF just don't have MP-BGP to do the VRF leaking.

Ultimately there will be about 4-5 VRF's (I know there's a Software limit of 26 VRF's on a 3750G).

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750G Stuck In Bootloader

Jan 23, 2013

I have just received a new Cisco 3750G Switch from my parent company. When attempting to install the switch, I discovered that it will not boot to CLI, only to the bootloader. After using the command boot, the switch attempts to boot the most current IOS version, but fails, stating "error loading XXXXXXXXXX.bin".

Obviously, I just need to get a functional version of the IOS onto the switch to boot, but the problem is exactly how can I do that? All (or most) the commands with which I am familiar are unavailable in the bootloader, so all methods known to me fail. Is there a simple way (maybe using the copy command?) to put the .tar or .bin file onto the flash?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750G ACLs Not Working

Sep 17, 2012

I am trying to create an ACL that walls off a VLAN and only allows it to the internet. This is on a 3750G, currently the 3750G I am attempting this on is in a stack. I have another 3750G that is a standalone.

The first way I attempted this was to create two access-lists: access-list 101 permit tcp 10.249.1.0 0.0.0.255 any eq 80 access-list 102 permit tcp any 10.249.1.0 0.0.0.255 established

Let's call the 10.249.1.0 VLAN 2. I applied this to the VLAN2 interface, 101 out, 102 in. It didn't work. If I place a deny statement with nothing else, that works.

The second attempt was this: access-list 101 deny ip 10.249.1.0 0.0.0.255 any access-list 101 permit ip any any

I applied this to a VLAN I wanted to block VLAN2's traffic from reaching, let's call that one VLAN 3.

This lets all traffic from any VLAN (including the one I'm trying to block). If I remove the "permit ip any any", then all VLANs are denied. Which I understand is correct due to the implied deny all. What I don't understand is why it isn't applying the ACL to the specific VLAN.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750G Won't Factory Default?

Jun 2, 2013

I have a 3750G that used to be a Stack Master of a stack comprised of 2 identical switches. Since then, we have removed the stack from production, and I factory defaulted the stack MEMBER and that went fine. I just held the "Mode" button on the front until the lights all lit up and then issued the reload command and the switch came back with no configuration OTHER than the vlan database I issued the "del vlan.dat" command to no avail. I just manually removed all the vlans.

The stack MASTER on the other hand will NOT go back to factory defaults, and will also NOT erase the vlan database. Everything I try will NOT work. I've tried the following

1) Hold mode button & issue a reload after the lights start flashing

2) issue "Write Erase" then issue "reload"

3) issue "Write Erase", then issue "Write", then issue "reload"

4) issue "erase start" then issue "reload" (just in case the "write erase" command is being depriciated or something weird)

5) issue "erase start" then issue "copy run start" then issue "reload"

Is there a special way to reset a StackMaster back to factory defaults?
