Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3845 / 3640 - GLBP - Weighting Based On Bandwidth For One PPP Of Many?
Dec 28, 2011
I have two routers at our core data center, a 3845 and a 3640. These are configured with GLBP. There are 4 remote sites:
Site #1: One T1 link to the 3825
Site #2: One T1 link to the 3825, and One T1 link to the 3640
Site #3: One T1 link to the 3825, and One T1 link to the 3640
Site #4: One fractional T1 link to the 3825, and One T1 link to the 3640.
My question regards site #4. If i understand correctly, GLBP works on the premise of "host" balancing, and not true "load" balancing. The reason I ask is that the large majority of our WAN traffic is from our Exchange server to our remote sites. In the case of site #4, our exchange server is sending traffic on the fractional T1. Is there any way with GLBP to either split this traffic from a particular host across two links in a round-robin fashion, but leave other hosts to travel wherever the router sends them, or, to force at least our exchange server to use the full T1, rather than the fractional?
I've read up on the weighting mechanism, and it appears that tracking an interface has nothing to do with bandwidth use. If I understand correctly, if I were to track the Site #4 PPP to the 3640, and give a weight of 10 to glbp on there, it would really only take affect if the interface is down. It will have nothing to do with host AVF election. For the record, exchange traffic is constant to this site, so there is no chance for the host connection to reset and potentially elect to use the larger pipe. I would like to "tweak" this to make better use of available bandwidth.
So I have 2 routers (cisco 3640) that each go to their own ISP and then back to the same switch. I have setup ospf and glbp, and now have pretty good redundancy. If either internet connection or routers go down everything is still golden.
So I was thinking that if an interface went down then the router would not be load balanced with glbp which got me thinking whats the best way to get interface redundancy (and I was going to add a 2nd switch with the second interface).
1) Setup BVI on the 2 interfaces. 2) Setup a 2nd interfaces (on each router), I would have to split the subnet, for instance: [code]then the machines could be on the subnet 192.168.0. 0/23 and setup glbp for 1 ip across all 4 interfaces (I'm not even sure if you can do this but think it would work). 3) Is there a way to utilize etherchannel or anything like this
A negative to option 2 would be that if 1 of the interfaces went down, all the sudden 2/3 (or so) of your traffic would be going through 1 router.
I have a cisco 2950 switch, connected with 4Mbps of internet and number of users will access the internet. There is no restraction on bandwidth limit for users, if any body use high download the remaining users are facing the slow browsing problems.
So, if i can put a bandwidth limitation for every users the problem will be solved. how to restract the bandwidth on user bases.
Which is the best way of creating GRE Tunnels on a GLBP enabled router? I actually have two 3845 with GLBP configured as our gateway routers, and need to create gre tunnels to branches. The plan is to use the GLBP virtual IP as the Tunnel Source address and the branch WAN interface as the tunnel Destination address, how do i handle the Tunnel IP address? Do i create the same Tunnel on both gateway routers and have a glbp virtual IP address for the Tunnel Interface as well?
I have 2*3825 routers configured with GLBP, but traffic is moving only with one router it only fallback on other router when the 1st router is isolated.
diagram: LAN=======>ASA(Routed mode with active-standby)======>one Cisco L2 switch========>2 *3825 Router
When trace route from LAN PC show that traffic is only taking via single router. LAN gateway is defined as ASA inside address and in ASA a default route pointed to GLBP address.

RTR2 config: ========== int g0/0 ip address 1.1.1.3 255.255.255.0 glbp 1 ip 1.1.1.1 glbp 1 preemt
- Second question is about EIGRP, when I configure EIGRP on the main switch that is AVG with the following commands, will I also have to run the same commands on the second 4948 E too?
I'm using 3640 router running on c3640-js-mz.124-25d.bin IOS. I'm using NM-1A-OC3SML= (ATM OC3, long reach single mode) interface card. Now my pc is connected an fast ethernet interface of the router. Need to know the ATM configuration on this cisco 3640 router in order to achieve the ATM over ethernet traffic get success. As of now i've confugred as below but it's not working it seems.
interface ATM2/0 bandwidth 120000 ip address 10.2.2.1 255.255.255.0 no atm ilmi-keepalive pvc 0/36 protocol ip 10.2.2.10 broadcast cbr 70000 encapsulation aal5mux ip
let me know the correct encapsulation type for the connectivity.
The Cisco 3600 series (3640) is hanged during booting proccess, the IOS is decompressed, but after some text it hanges and I even cannot go to user exec. ROMmon and bypassing the config setting, but the result is still the same.
I got this 3640, trying to apply a service-policy (output and input), but seems like I do it something wrong...because he only apply the output policy... here the config, I already try to config the service police inside the fa0/0, but is not showed at all, he only show the output, its like I never apply that
I got some unexpected System crash, and this happens to 2 different routers on the same network.. (We suffer a Crash and change the router, happens the same to the new router after some time, maybe 40 minutes!!)
Here is the last console report for the new router....
%Software-forced reload

We have a Cisco 3640 router running c3640-is-mz.123-3g.bin Switching ports are devided into several VLans. Each VLan has its own IP subnet. We can't ping IP address X in subnet A from subnet B unless we log into the router and ping it from there first. (and then the IP address will show up in "show ip arp" command. Then we can ping X in subnet A from subnet B, and browse web on device X from subnet B, etc. )
i am running c3640-is-mz.124-21.bin on a cisco router 3640. i am trying to create a monitor session in the CLI and everytime i type the command Router(config)#monitor session 1 interface ethernet2/1 % Invalid input detected at '^' marker. Router(config)#monitor session 1 interface ethernet2/1 ^% Invalid input detected at '^' marker. i get the error invalid input ?
How to configure my serial modules on my 2600 and 3640? Each router has the WIC-2T with two cables connecting them. I tried to ping one router from the other, but no luck. Serial IP address I just made up, this is my home lab, so if I messed those up some how,
Here is the running config for each rotuer:

I have a 3845 ISR that I have been managing for a couple years that has a traditional ACL based config. We just purchased a new 3845 for redundancy and it arrived with the zone based config from Cisco. Any opinions on whether I should take the existing router to a zone based config or should I configure the new router with traditional ACL config that I am more comforatable with?
I have a 3845 Router with three connected interfaces, one to my WAN, one to my LAN and another to my wifi zone. I want to limit the amount of WAN bandwidth the WIFI zone can take to say a max of one third and not restrict WAN bandwidth from the LAN at all.
We have a Cisco 3845 router and on the G0/0 interface we have our public switch with multiple public IP addresses (servers, routers, etc..) and on the S0/0 interface we have a DS3 Internet connection. I need to limit the bandwidth from the Internet (download) to one of the IP addresses on the G0/0 interface. I'm thinking of limiting to 256K and really need info with either a policy map or something equivalent.
So in our DMVPN network, we have this Cisco 3845 hub router that is connected via a DS3 to the Internet, and our spoke sites usually have a broadband connection that typically have a maximum of 1Mbps upload capacity. We are getting ready to add a few more sites to our network that are connected to the Internet with 10Mbps upload speeds (and 50Mbps download). Spoke site routers are usually 800 series ISRs. We have seen spikes of 8-10Mbps on the hub router so far. So the question is that a site with 10Mbps upload speed transmit to the full capacity over a DMVPN tunnel or is it limited by other factors? What are those factors?
I need very Urgent Time based Bandwidth limit on subinterface in Cisco 3845 Router. At Present 3Mb input/output rate-limit of our one of the client now they need between 9:00 to 20:59 3 Mb and between 21:00 to 8:59 they need 9 Mb bandwidth, please see current b/w limit config of our client in my router subinterface.
I have Cisco 2851 router & need to allocate bandwith based on IP's. eg. 192.168.1.1 should use 7 Mbps & 192.168.1.2 should use 2 Mbps & 192.168.1.3 should use 1 Mbps. Let me know the configuration on how to execute it on a router.
I have a 3845-Mb that has a username and password already on it. This needs to be wiped as its a sold unit. However i cannot break into teh IOS in Hyperterminal using Ctrl-Break either as it boots or after teh IOS image has loaded (after it shows Decompressed image {ok} etc). I have tried several break key combinations such as ctrl+F6+break and they dont work either. On boot the unit does show Password recovery Functionality is disabled. IOS image is 12.4(13r)T.
I would like to know about asa 5500-x. Does it supports application visibility and granular control for different applications. Moreover bandwidth control based on different users and different applications
I am facing an isssues with 7609 for LAN switching , based on LAN (VRRP/HSRP) feature.Actually we are having ES+ cards (on 7609) and we are using multiple groups(say 350 vrrp groups) running on the router . the routers are connected as router 1>>> mux(which is working as switches)>>> router2
my questing are
1. does their will be "multicast packets" (for VRRP/HSRP group) "from backup router to Master router", when in stable state( ie when Master and backup are already chosen) , or the packet from backup to master should be unicast.I know for sure, the packet from master to back is multicast packets denstination to Multicast IP packet and To MAC address.I am not sure but I think from backup to master it should be multicast
2. what is frequency of these packets( from backup to master)
3. As i have multiper group on a single interface ( we are using q-in-q), when the connectivity from router's is broken, then does all the groups will muticast their active roll in the lan sengment "at once" or it will be in a groups say 100 groups at once, and after few ms few 100's and sone ( as is on OSPF or RIP)
we are in between troubleshooting I hope we get the ans( Actul problem we are seeing in the router's that we have 2 ports on active routers and 2 ports on standby router , but we are not seeing muticast on 1 port on standby router where as all other 3 ports are seeing multicast packets) [code]
When I try to add an IP address to a port-channel interface on a 3845 ISR I am getting an error that seems to imply that only L2 etherchanneling is possible. Am I missing something?Cisco IOS Software, 3800 Software (C3845-ADVIPSERVICESK9-M), Version 12.4(24)T8,

We have a Cisco 3845 router configured as a voice gateway with multi SIP trunks. But when it reachs 200 calls traffic, the CPU increase to 60-70% and caused by CCSIP_SPI_CONTROL process.
CPU utilization for five seconds: 46%/30%; one minute: 54%; five minutes: 58% PID Runtime(ms) Invoked uSecs 5Sec 1Min 5Min TTY Process 377 400729448 171017979 2343 6.31% 10.71% 12.44% 0 CCSIP_SPI_CONTRO
Can the encryption module (DES/ 3DES/AES/SSL VPN Encrytion/compression) for Cisco Router 3845 able to support the external connection from other high end router, for example cisco 7200? What is the maximum bandwidth, load and concurrent connection it can support?
I found cpu load around 90 - 100% on cisco 3845, so I show tech-spec and show log on router and found process "Virtual Exec" use high load. I'm not sure this situation make high latency time on my network.
We have a number of 3845 routers, some running IOS 12.4(22)T2 and earlier and some running 12.4(24)T4. On the ones with 12.4(22)T2 and earlier, gigabit interface g0/1 shows interface down/line protocol down when there is no cable connected to the interface and the interface is not in shutdown state. On the ones with 12.4(24)T4, gigabit interface g0/1 shows interface up/line protocol down when there is no cable connected to the interface and the interface is not in shutdown state. Interestingly in both cases, the "show controller g0/1" command shows " network link is down (NO CARRIER)" when there is no cable attached. It makes sense to us that the interface status would be down/down when there is no cable attached. It does not makes sense to us that the interace would be up/down. Did Cisco at some point change their philosophy on whether an interface should show down/down or up/down when there is no cable attached, or is this a bug?
