Cisco Switching/Routing :: How To Configure L3 Etherchannel 3845 ISR
Jun 9, 2013
When I try to add an IP address to a port-channel interface on a 3845 ISR I am getting an error that seems to imply that only L2 etherchanneling is possible. Am I missing something?Cisco IOS Software, 3800 Software (C3845-ADVIPSERVICESK9-M), Version 12.4(24)T8,

I have a one 3750x switch and 10 nos of 2950 switch, i want to configuration etherchanel between 3750 to 2950, for that i need 10 nos of etherchanel interface(virtual), but the 2950 switch support maximum of 6 nos of etherchanel port?
I am trying to configure etherchannel on 2 2960S connected by a flexstack with 2 ports g1/0/52 and g2/0/52 on each 2960.
these switch are connected to a CAT4500, I know that I can only use LACP because of cross-stack but when I force the switch to use LACP witch channel-group 2 Mode active the switch do this :
%With PAgP enabled, all ports in the Channel should belong to the same switchCommand rejected (Port-channel2, Gi1/0/52): Invalid etherchnl mode % Range command terminated because it failed on GigabitEthernet1/0/52
I don't know how to bundle the 2 ports on the 2960 stack. each time I use : channel-group 2 mode on there is no error
but the switch do this :
*Mar 1 00:45:32.290: %EC-5-CANNOT_BUNDLE2: Gi2/0/52 is not compatible with Po2 and will be suspended (trunk mode of Gi2/0/52 is dynamic, Po2 is trunk) *Mar 1 00:45:32.531: %EC-5-CANNOT_BUNDLE2: Gi2/0/52 is not compatible with Po2
I am trying to configure two 3845 routers to act as dhcp server and dhcp relay. Clients are connected to the router that relays all dhcp requests to the vrf instance which is used to connect it to the router wich is running dhcp server.
Router1 ip vrf dhcp_dns rd 8:1 int gi0/0 ip vrf forwarding dhcp_dns ip address 192.168.200.5 255.255.255.248
[code]...
So far I can see dhcp requests coming from the R1 and dhcp server on R2 replies with the dhcp offer but PC is not getting any ip.
I am trying to implement an etherchannel on a cisco 2901 (IOS 15.1). i have already created the port-channel but i cannot assign the gig interface to the channel group.
I have a problem with an etherchannel between a cisco 2950 and a couple of catalyst 4506. The cisco 2950 is connect via an etherchannel to the catalyst 4506A. The channel consist of two port on both side and is in trunk mode, encapsulation dot1q.Now i have the necessity to connect the 2950 to the other catalyst, 4506B. So, i copy the same configuration on the 4506B, but when I unplug the two rj45 cables from the catalyst 4506A to plug them in the 4506B the etherchannel doesn't go up in any way.
I have two switches 6509 one switch is confire with VTP domain ABC Other switch is configure with ABZ, At present the switch is configure with the L3 interface and one fiber cable is connected between two switches.I want to remove L3 configuration wants to make L2 etherchannel and wants to ceraeate Loop back will assing same ip both side. The OSPF is configure both side , i will not do any changes in the OSPF as L3 ip is advertise in OSPF.
I am about to configure 4 Gig ports for EtherChannel. I've been reading about EtherChannel and it seems easy enough to configure. I have a host (server)which I am going to connect to these 4 - gig ports. This is new for me and would like some feedback for those that have used EtherChannel on their layer 2 switches. The gig ports will be an access port with VLAN XX.
Is it possible to have ether-channel across 2 switches? As an example, having a server with 2 ports connect, 1 port to Switch-A and the other to Switch-B and then use those two links on the sepatate switches but to the same server to form an Etherchannel.
We have two 6k5 configured as vss and it is working fine. For each floor we have a 3750 stack. In each 3750 stack we have 4 switches. From the first 3750 we have a fiber link to the first 6k5 and from the fourth switch we have another fiber link to the other 6k5 switch, for each floor/3750 stack, both configured as etherchannel. We installled each 3750 stack/floor in different maintenance windows; in all these installations we have problems configuring the etherchannel. After we configure the etherchannel on 3750 stack and in the vss, the etherchannel does not go up/up. We see the etherchannel up/down; after a lot off work, try and error, configuring shut/ no shut, adding and excluding links from the etherchannel; in any aleatory moment the etherchannel goes up/up and works fine. Is there any bug related with these IOS versions, or is there any right procedure to configure etherchannel from vss to 3750 stack?
I am trying to review the port-channel configuration on a 6500 series. I am issuing the "show etherchannel summary" command and the out put shows the Group, Port-Channel, and Ports. It does not show me the protocol that is in use such as PAgP or LACP. Does this have to do with the Etherchannel in the "On" mode rather than "active", or "Auto"?
We have a problem with the throughput over etherchannel in LACP with 2 or 4 ports. It is iSCSI traffic (vmware esxi 4.1 U3) is going from 2 separate NICs (ports) to the etherchannel (with 2 or 4 ports) that has a SAN connected (Nexenta).
The SAN is configured in passive LACP and the switch is in active LACP. Actually it does not matter if we do LACP or just MODE ON, still same result: ~1GBit/s throughtput in either direction. Like already mentioned, 2 or 4 ports in the etherchannel make no difference, or the configuration of the etherchannel.
I will post some config data below, but here is the question: Why can't we see traffic beyond 1GBit/s? Source and destination are capable of doing much more than that (vmware esxi RAID 5 of 1TB SATA; SAN 16 x 1TB NL-SAS). If we look with CNA, we can see that the traffic is balanced equally over the etherchannel ports. With or without QOS or flowcontrol, no difference. This whole traffic happenes on this switch.
When you aggregate multiple fiber GBICs together on the 3508G, do you configure it as an etherchannel, or as fibre-channel? I've looked around online for hours, but can't find it mentioned anywhere.
I have made an etherchannel between 6509 and 7606 with two giga interfaces on eatch one to have more bandwidth (2Go), but the Etherchannel does not exceed 1 GB (Below is a capture for Etherchannel taken from Solarwinds).the both 6506 and 7606 use ws sup 720 3bxl
Is it possible to to build a Layer 3 ether channel from two separate physical switches (layer3) that are trunked together?I know you can easily do this on a single switch and on stacked switches which I've done but in this case the customer have purchased two 3560X's which are not stackable yet want redundancy. The purpose of the etherchannel is to connect both switches to a private circuit provided by the hosted partner then route to the same setup in the DR location to different subnets.
I was configuring link aggregation between a Cisco3750 and Cisco SG200 and the switched network went down just a few minutes after the port channel came on.I rebooted the SG200 and all hosts came back up for a minute before I lost them again. The etherchannel was between two trunking ports. I never set link aggregation on the SG200, could that be the reason? All machines are connected to the SG200. The 3750 is only being used as a layer 3 device for inter vlan traffic.
Maybe this was listed in the release notes for the product and I missed it, but can this item support Etherchannel in a 2801 router? I installed the module into the router and the router recognizes the module. I can configure the ports as access or trunk ports, but I am unable to configure the channel-protocol or the channel-group for the Etherchannel. The IOS on the router is 15.1 M with the upgraded Bootloader version 12.3.
We have a new building where we added 3 network closets with 3750x stacks. We have 2 fiber gig ports connected to 2 microwave units and etherchanneled the to ports
We have the same setup at the corporate office except the connection is 2 fiber gig ports on a 6509. The 6509 is doing the routing
Now the problem is that we lost the connection to the management interface on only one of the three closets after a few days running. But some workstations at the corp office could reach it... others could not. The workstation were on the same VLAN. We solved the problem for a few days by shutting on of the fiber ports on the etherchannel. But is started happening again... now with PCs being installed at the new location.
The PC that was not working on the 3750x side could ping across to the 6509 but no further then that. It seems like an arp issue not routing because some devices are reachable and fully operational throughout the network.
Here is the configuration:

I been practicing with the configuration of layer 3 etherchannel configuration and i am facing a problem here. I have two 3560 switches and i want a layr 3 ether channel configuration setup between the first 2 ports of bothe the switches. I assign IPs to the Port-channel 1 of both the switches "10.1.1.1 /24 and 10.1.1.2 /24" but i am unable to get a successful ping. what am i doing wrong. below are the configs for bothe of my switches.

We have to cisco WS-C4900M with Cisco IOS Software, Catalyst 4500 L3 Switch Software (cat4500e-IPBASE-M), Version 12.2(53)SG5, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1).We have four gigabit link connected between those two switches. We have create a LACP port channel with those four ports on both switches. Ether-channel is up and running and defined with a load-balancing method of src-dst-ip.But when we test the load-balancing, it's not using the src-dst-ip rule with the XOR: [code]
We've installed cisco devices accross our site in the last year or so and slowing getting on top of it now. How ever our old unmanaged kit seems to be out performing it. It's most like down to my misconfiguration which has lead me to here. Below is the details of hardware and configuration between devices. 3750 Core consisting of the following stacked. [code] I've got MRTG monitoring traffic and the throughput seems to max out 24m/s,
We are configuring a new EMC VNX, and plan to use Ether channel with our 3750x stack. We would like to configure it for both additional bandwidth and for redundancy. What is the best configuration to use? Should we trunk the channel or use switch port mode access, and use channel-group on or protocol LACP (which state active or passive)?
For etherchannel of 2 links on a 3750 switch, if 1 link ever gets saturated, will the other link be used as well if the excess traffic is part of the same flow?Or that excess traffic will simply be dropped?
Two ports in C3560E are grouped together in "active" mode. These ports are connected to a EMC server. When I type as below, the channel is in SD mode. The Server admin told me that this is normal behavior since one port is active and the other is in standby mode of which are teamed together.
Switch#show etherchannel summ ... Number of channel-groups in use: 1Number of aggregators: 1 Group Port-channel Protocol Ports------+-------------+-----------+-----------------------------------------------1 Po5(SD) LACP Gi0/33(I) Gi0/34(I)
Any limitation on building an etherchannel on the abovementioned linecard, when bundling more than one port on the same card? The 4506 is using a 6L-E supervisor engine 12.2(54)SG1.
If it's done on a 6500 with a WS-X6148-GE-TX linecard it effectivley can only reach 1gb throughput.
I am wanting to etherchannel from a 3750 stack to core Layer 3 switches (also 3750) with a cable going to each core switch, I have put both core switches and the stack under a 28bit subnet mask, but I dont seem to be load balancing across both links.
Does the 2901 have etherchannel capabilities? If so, how to configure it? I mean, I can type "show etherchannel 1" in it, so I would assume if I can show it, I better be able to configure it, right? What about the 2911?
