Cisco Switching/Routing :: Making Etherchannel On A 4ESW HWIC
Nov 4, 2012
Maybe this was listed in the release notes for the product and I missed it, but can this item support Etherchannel in a 2801 router? I installed the module into the router and the router recognizes the module. I can configure the ports as access or trunk ports, but I am unable to configure the channel-protocol or the channel-group for the Etherchannel. The IOS on the router is 15.1 M with the upgraded Bootloader version 12.3.
I have a 2811 ISR, a lab unit with almost nothing yet configured other than some IP networks on serial and FE interfaces to ping to other lab routers. And I have one HWIC-4ESW installed, and I amrunning IOS 15.2.I want to set the card as a single routable interface and just have the ports act like switch ports, which I imagine is the default design of these cardsI work a lot with Cisco 891 ISRs so figured it's the same here, assign an IP to interface Vlan1 and all is well. That was wrong, obviously more config is required. It seems there are a lot of differing answers out there, so far none what worked for me. The best looking one I could find said to assign an IP to the Vlan 1 interface, then go to each of the four FE interfaces on the switch module.
We have been facing a problem at my company ! We have a Cisco Router 1921 with one HWIC-4ESW in trunking with a RuggedCom switch RSG2100.When I use the GigabitEthernet port to make a trunk, I create 2 sub-interfaces (one for each Vlan) and configure the Port on Switch as Trunk, the inter-VLan routing works with no problem. But now I need to use this configuration using the HWIC-4ESW on Router, and I can't do this work. I try creat interface Vlan for each vlan, and try creating the VLans at Router Vlans database, but no way. At router I enter in interface and try to do the switchport trunk command to add a Vlan, but doesn't work.
We have two cards HWIC-4ESW on router 3845 but we need that the two cards 8 ports conected betwen, if a pc on port 1 can ping a pc conected on port 8 on second card. tis comunication can,t doing a pc on port 1 can,t conected a pc on port 8.
i have some issue with Hwic-4ESW, if i install one card(Hwich-4ESW) is working all port then i install one more card ( Hwic-4ESW) it not working.interface and vlan is up but from my PC to port Hwic-4esw not working. what is problem on this ?
I put a second HWIC-4ES in a 3825 router and it does not work, only work the first card that is inserted, I use the slot 0 for it, the 0/0 and 1/0 work with serial card only if I put the HWIC-4ESW in this slots the router does not work, only work in 0/2 and 0/3 but only one, I need to know if there is a command to active it because the data sheet in CISCO indicate that this model of router support 2 HWIC-4ESW. url...
I have 3945 router using the HWIC-4ESW module.I am not able to see the HSRP configuration commands under these interface.Does this module support HSRP ? If yes , do i need upgrade the IOS of router.
I have a module of HWIC-4ESW installed into Cisco 2811 router where 3 WAN link is terminited. Suddently WAN links stopped working from last night. I have performed shutdown and no shutdown in the interface but still the the WAN link was not working. After performing a reboot the WAN link started working. No error logs were generated while the WAN link was down.
How Can I connect two router with one HWIC-4ESW card , I have Problem with this because when I tried to do , I received the message I can´t configure IP address on L2. The idea is to connect two routers with /30.
I have 3845 Router with HWIC-4ESW & I am trying to apply MQC on SVI interface but I keep getting configuration Error!-RTR(config-if)#service-policy output XYZ_WAN_QOS Configuration failed I believe that HWIC-4ESW is Layer 2 port & you can not apply Module Qos on SVI interface. I am exploring other option.
I have following link for 1 OR 2 Port Fast Ethernet port but not sure whether this will support what I am looking for.[URL] Aslo I have HWIC-1GE-SFP card on Same router where MQC works fine .interface GigabitEthernet0/1 description METRO-E duplex auto speed auto media-type rj45 service-policy output Metro-E?
We are planning on moving towards MPLS. I want to test a MPLS capability with Cisco 1841 Router and a HWIC-4ESW. Is it possible to use the MPLS withe mentioned devices?
I am trying to configure a newly installed HWIC-4ESW on a 2811 router to bridge to the FE 0/0 interface. Currently, I have a cheap switch connected to FE 0/0 which in turn connects to all the phones, however now I just want to connect all the phones to the HWIC and have it internally bridge to FE0/0 for the connectivity to CME, etc.
I started to set up a 1721 router with WIC-4ESW. This is on an internal network, so only looking to just do routing from FA/0's interface to the networks attached to ports on the WIC. I first assigned just VLANs to 2 of the ports and this did not work. So I did some reading up and decided to use bridge groups. Except I still can not access the interfaces on the WIC. And by that I mean on the router itself I can not ping the ip assigned to the BVI.
I have another 1721 w/4 port that long ago I seem to remember simply assigning VLANs to the interfaces and I was able to communicate between the networks without issue (or maybe I just don't rememer that well). Thing is I should be able to at least ping the internal interfaces shouldn't I (assuming the status is up). I don't know why BVI2 and 3 are listed as down, nor do I seem to know how to bring these up.
This is what ip int br gives me: 1721#sh ip int br Interface IP-Address OK? Method Status Protocol BVI2 192.168.101.1 YES manual down down [Code]....
We are deploying a new office in the building next to our main office. The main office has a Cisco ASA 5510 behind that is a Cisco 3750 stack. In the new office we are deploying a new Cisco 3750, they will be connected via fiber cable. I have sliced off VLAN 800 as a transit link /30 with an address space of 10.249.249.1-4. The new 3750 only has two VLAN's 800 and 112 (10.112.0.0/24). VLAN 112 routes are advertised to the neighboring 3750 properly as seen in the routing tables of the 3750 stack:
D 10.112.0.0/24 [90/3072] via 10.249.249.2, 00:22:24, Vlan800
Traffic passes between all local VLANS with no issue. I found in order to get packets to pass between the ASA and the new 3750 I had to add a static route to the ASA:
S 10.112.0.0 255.255.255.0 [1/0] via 10.100.0.1, inside
My question is why is EIGRP not advertising the 10.112.0.0 network to the ASA. Here are EIGRP configs on the switches
I currently have Cisco 3750G which is currently live and active and fully populated and only have remote access.
I have an additional same switch which I would like to stack. My initial plans were to have 2 GIbit etherchannels, but I came across the option to Stacks both switch with each other.
When I do a show switch on the live switch its set as a Member: [code]
I would like to add the new switch to the stack without losing the config for the switch which is live. I understand that the highest priority of the switches becomes the Master but as the live switch is Priority 1, would chancing this affect the switches config, or would it lose connection at all?
Also when I plug in the new switch and it reboot how do I ensure it becomes the slave without rebooting the live switch? The cables on the switch do they have to go to port1 on the live switch and port 1 on the new switch or can they be port 1 and port 2?
When I try to add an IP address to a port-channel interface on a 3845 ISR I am getting an error that seems to imply that only L2 etherchanneling is possible. Am I missing something?Cisco IOS Software, 3800 Software (C3845-ADVIPSERVICESK9-M), Version 12.4(24)T8,
sfo-c3845-1#sho run int port-channel 1 Building configuration... Current configuration : 31 bytes ! interface Port-channel1 end
I am trying to implement an etherchannel on a cisco 2901 (IOS 15.1). i have already created the port-channel but i cannot assign the gig interface to the channel group.
I have a problem with an etherchannel between a cisco 2950 and a couple of catalyst 4506. The cisco 2950 is connect via an etherchannel to the catalyst 4506A. The channel consist of two port on both side and is in trunk mode, encapsulation dot1q.Now i have the necessity to connect the 2950 to the other catalyst, 4506B. So, i copy the same configuration on the 4506B, but when I unplug the two rj45 cables from the catalyst 4506A to plug them in the 4506B the etherchannel doesn't go up in any way.
I have two switches 6509 one switch is confire with VTP domain ABC Other switch is configure with ABZ, At present the switch is configure with the L3 interface and one fiber cable is connected between two switches.I want to remove L3 configuration wants to make L2 etherchannel and wants to ceraeate Loop back will assing same ip both side. The OSPF is configure both side , i will not do any changes in the OSPF as L3 ip is advertise in OSPF.
I am about to configure 4 Gig ports for EtherChannel. I've been reading about EtherChannel and it seems easy enough to configure. I have a host (server)which I am going to connect to these 4 - gig ports. This is new for me and would like some feedback for those that have used EtherChannel on their layer 2 switches. The gig ports will be an access port with VLAN XX.
Is it possible to have ether-channel across 2 switches? As an example, having a server with 2 ports connect, 1 port to Switch-A and the other to Switch-B and then use those two links on the sepatate switches but to the same server to form an Etherchannel.
We have two 6k5 configured as vss and it is working fine. For each floor we have a 3750 stack. In each 3750 stack we have 4 switches. From the first 3750 we have a fiber link to the first 6k5 and from the fourth switch we have another fiber link to the other 6k5 switch, for each floor/3750 stack, both configured as etherchannel. We installled each 3750 stack/floor in different maintenance windows; in all these installations we have problems configuring the etherchannel. After we configure the etherchannel on 3750 stack and in the vss, the etherchannel does not go up/up. We see the etherchannel up/down; after a lot off work, try and error, configuring shut/ no shut, adding and excluding links from the etherchannel; in any aleatory moment the etherchannel goes up/up and works fine. Is there any bug related with these IOS versions, or is there any right procedure to configure etherchannel from vss to 3750 stack?
I am trying to review the port-channel configuration on a 6500 series. I am issuing the "show etherchannel summary" command and the out put shows the Group, Port-Channel, and Ports. It does not show me the protocol that is in use such as PAgP or LACP. Does this have to do with the Etherchannel in the "On" mode rather than "active", or "Auto"?
We have a problem with the throughput over etherchannel in LACP with 2 or 4 ports. It is iSCSI traffic (vmware esxi 4.1 U3) is going from 2 separate NICs (ports) to the etherchannel (with 2 or 4 ports) that has a SAN connected (Nexenta).
The SAN is configured in passive LACP and the switch is in active LACP. Actually it does not matter if we do LACP or just MODE ON, still same result: ~1GBit/s throughtput in either direction. Like already mentioned, 2 or 4 ports in the etherchannel make no difference, or the configuration of the etherchannel.
I will post some config data below, but here is the question: Why can't we see traffic beyond 1GBit/s? Source and destination are capable of doing much more than that (vmware esxi RAID 5 of 1TB SATA; SAN 16 x 1TB NL-SAS). If we look with CNA, we can see that the traffic is balanced equally over the etherchannel ports. With or without QOS or flowcontrol, no difference. This whole traffic happenes on this switch.
When you aggregate multiple fiber GBICs together on the 3508G, do you configure it as an etherchannel, or as fibre-channel? I've looked around online for hours, but can't find it mentioned anywhere.
