Cisco Switching/Routing :: Setting Up Etherchannel Between 3750 And SG200

Jul 6, 2012

I was configuring link aggregation between a Cisco3750 and Cisco SG200 and the switched network went down just a few minutes after the port channel came on.I rebooted the SG200 and all hosts came back up for a minute before I lost them again. The etherchannel was between two trunking ports. I never set link aggregation on the SG200, could that be the reason? All machines are connected to the SG200. The 3750 is only being used as a layer 3 device for inter vlan traffic.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Etherchannel Does Not Go Up / Up From 3750 Stack To 6k5 Vss

May 19, 2012

We have two 6k5 configured as vss and it is working fine. For each floor we have a 3750 stack. In each 3750 stack we have 4 switches. From the first 3750 we have a fiber link to the first 6k5 and from the fourth switch we have another fiber link to the other 6k5 switch, for each floor/3750 stack, both configured as etherchannel. We installled each 3750 stack/floor in different maintenance windows; in all these installations we have problems configuring the etherchannel. After we configure the etherchannel on 3750 stack and in the vss, the etherchannel does not go up/up. We see the etherchannel up/down; after a lot off work, try and error, configuring shut/ no shut, adding and excluding links from the etherchannel; in any aleatory moment the etherchannel goes up/up and works fine. Is there any bug related with these IOS versions, or is there any right procedure to configure etherchannel from vss to 3750 stack?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750 - Losing Connection With Etherchannel

Jun 20, 2012

We have a new building where we added 3 network closets with 3750x stacks.We have 2 fiber gig ports connected to 2 microwave units and etherchanneled the to ports

We have the same setup at the corporate office except the connection is 2 fiber gig ports on a 6509. The 6509 is doing the routing

Now the problem is that we lost the connection to the management interface on only one of the three closets after a few days running. But some workstations at the corp office could reach it... others could not. The workstation were on the same VLAN. We solved the problem for a few days by shutting on of the fiber ports on the etherchannel. But is started happening again... now with PCs being installed at the new location.

The PC that was not working on the 3750x side could ping across to the 6509 but no further then that. It seems like an arp issue not routing because some devices are reachable and fully operational throughout the network.

Here is the configuration:

3750x:Cisco IOS Software, Version 12.2(55)SE1
Current configuration : 118 bytes!interface Port-channel1switchport trunk encapsulation dot1qswitchport mode trunkno snmp trap link-statusend

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Cross Stack EtherChannel From 3750 To 2960

Mar 25, 2013

We have a pair of WS-C3750X-24T-S in a stack and four WS-C2960S-48TS-L in a stack of their own. There is not really anything too fancy configured (no special VLAN configuration/trunks or etc.) but the 3750 do have two ports configured as L3 for routing. We are not trying to use those ports for EtherChannel. These devices are running IOS 12.2(55)SE3 Essentially we are attempting to make an EtherChannel group using port 48 on all four of the 2960's in their stack (four ports). On the 3750 we will configure an EtherChannel group using port 23 and 24 on both switches (four ports). We then connect them up to form a four member EtherChannel.The ports on both ends are configured as mode ON and they are all 1Gb ports. I elected mode on because I understand at least one of the EtherChannel protocols will not work cross stack. What I would like to ask is whether the above configuration is possible or are we hitting some sort of limitation of EtherChannel cross stack, etc..? I cannot find anything to suggest this configration is invalid, but thought I would ask to see if I missed something in the EtherChannel articles.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Etherchannel - Redundant 6500 To 3750 Datacenter Switch?

Mar 27, 2012

I have 2 6504's running HSRP as my core.  They are each etherchannel'd to my Datacenter switch (3750 Stack) -- see image below.The problem i a having is with the etherchannel status:

Core1 PO11 status w (waiting)
Core2 PO11 status P(bundled)

DC11 PO48 status P -- but only to Core2 - the interfaces to Core1 are suspended. (See attached configuration documents)  None of the devices have any information in the logs.  I run this same configuration in my central location, but we are running Nexus 7000's.  With the 6500's, do I need to split the port channels on the 3750 to allow them to negotiate the etherchannel? If I split the portchannels, are there any concerns? Should I expect to see the etherchannel status as P (Bundled) or H (Hot-Standby)?

It also doesn't specify any particular IOS feature set. I've tried Cisco Software Advisor but it doesn't list this feature on either the 3750E or 3750-X. Cisco Switching/Routing :: Setting MTU On A 3750 Switch?

Dec 12, 2010

The question is: Will a 3750 switch route Jumbo frame sizes (e.g. 9000 MTU)?

We know that we can change the System MTU to 9000, and someone on a previous thread said that we can change the Routing MTU to 9000 as well, although I couldn't figure out how to do that.  However, regardless of how we configure the System MTU and Routing MTU, I don't think we're able to adjust the MTU on L3 VLAN interfaces, so if we want to actually "route" between VLANs on the switch, we're limited to 1500 MTU.

Our situation is that we have a customer connecting to our 3750 switch, and this customer wants to use Jumbo frames.  The customer connects to our 3750 switch via their own VLAN, with their own L3 VLAN interface configured on the switch.  The customer will point their traffic towards the L3 VLAN interface, then we want to route them onto another VLAN, via a different L3 VLAN interface, before forwarding their traffic.  Because of the limitations noted above, specificially regarding the routing between these VLANs via L3 interfaces, I do not think we'll be able to support 9000 MTU frames on this 3750 switch.  I think the L3 VLAN interfaces will limit us to 1500 MTU, regardless of what we configured via the global System MTU and Routing MTU settings.

Cisco :: SG200-08 Setting Up Multiple Subnets

Aug 26, 2011

I am setting up my home lab to practice and play around.I have VMWARE ESXi environment with two workstations as my servers.I would like to setup two domains with two domain controllers  but i want each domain to have its own subnet.So this is my setup. I have Cable modem from cablevision , thay connects to my router which is Apple Airport which acts as the DHCP server. DNS server and default gateway. The network on the router is 10.0.1.xThen i have two switches . One is a 5 port unmanaged switch that connects to the three physical desktops .Then i have a Cisco small business switch SG200-08 that connects to my ESX servers and NAS. Now currently all is good and working but like i said all my machines physical or virtual get an IP that is 10.0.1.x and they get all this from the router. And i think i can setup two domains with two domain controllers without an issue and they will all get an IP address of 10.0.1.x. This is all good but i want to have one domain on one subnet and other on another so for example one domain will have 10.0.1.x and other 10.0.2.x. I am just not sure what i need to to  get this setup like this. I know my SG200-08 supports vlans and i am pretty sure on the apple router you can only have one subnet i think. So can i do this with my current setup by setting up a DHCP server with two scopes ?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Throughput Of Etherchannel On 3560G

Nov 27, 2012

We have a problem with the throughput over etherchannel in LACP with 2 or 4 ports. It is iSCSI traffic (vmware esxi 4.1 U3) is going from 2 separate NICs (ports) to the etherchannel (with 2 or 4 ports) that has a SAN connected (Nexenta).

The SAN is configured in passive LACP and the switch is in active LACP.  Actually it does not matter if we do LACP or just MODE ON, still same result: ~1GBit/s throughtput in either direction.  Like already mentioned, 2 or 4 ports in the etherchannel make no difference, or the configuration of the etherchannel.

I will post some config data below, but here is the question: Why can't we see traffic beyond 1GBit/s?  Source and destination are capable of doing much more than that (vmware esxi RAID 5 of 1TB SATA; SAN 16 x 1TB NL-SAS). If we look with CNA, we can see that the traffic is balanced equally over the etherchannel ports. With or without QOS or flowcontrol, no difference. This whole traffic happenes on this switch.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: SG200-50P And PoE Configuration

Jul 17, 2012

I currently work in the IT field part-time as a end-user support technician while I am finishing my Bachelor's Degree in Network Administration.  I'm not completely new to networking at this point, but I am by no means a master of it either.  The basics of small networks (less than 10 PCs) and the lower-end of small business grade Cisco equipment are not unfamiliar to me.  Up until this point however, I have had very little experience with any higher-end Cisco networking equipment.

Now on to the questions, which may seem like the answers should be obvious, but let's face it, I do not have the resources to own much equipment myself at this time for experimentation purposes, nor does the school I am attending have a lot of financial resources to provide us with recent hardware to learn on.  What I want to know are a few things about PoE as implemented on Cisco devices, specifically the SG200-50P small business series switch.  According to the technical documentation, the switch supports PoE on 24 of its 48 ports, specifically 1 - 12 and 24 - 36; simple enough.  The switch is currently installed in an office that has less than 24 connected devices, but that is currently expanding.  None of the PoE ports are utilized as of yet, but going forward, there will be more than 24 connected devices.  Will another switch need to be installed if the additional connected devices (PCs and printers) are not using PoE, or is the PoE an auto-sensing feature that will simply remain disabled if a device that does not require power over the network cable is connected?  Is there some setting that needs to be changed through the management interface to keep devices that should not be drawing power from doing so?

There will likely be some additional questions generated by my inquiry, and I fully understand if these are completely novice questions, but I admittedly do not know the answer.  When I Googled it, I was greeted by a few hundred thousand results, the first dozen or so pages of results all being for places to purchase this particular type of switch, so I thought I would try my luck on the forums of the place that made it.
