Just spoke to the TAC and didn't get the information needed. When configuring ip dhcp snooping database I am adding this to my configuration:ip dhcp snooping database scp://dhcpsec@192.168.1.50/home/dhcpsec/switch1.dhcp.database.txt..I assumed that to do this I would either specify the password on the command line, similar to the way its done when using ftp/http, or that I would need to create a public/private key.I have enabled scp and can manually copy a file from the switch to the linux server. So I believe I have all the aaa commands correct. Cisco WS-C3560G-24PS System image file is "flash:/c3560-ipservicesk9-mz.122-55.SE.bin".

I have three new 2960 switches as listed in the title. I configured them as follows:
192.168.1.215 host: whse-c
192.168.1.216 host: whse-b
192.168.1.217 host: whse-a
Switches B and C flow into A before continuing on into the server room switch (distance issues). All three switches are configured for ports 21-24 at 1000 and set as cisco switches. all other ports are undefined as they have a myriad of desktops, printers and non cisco access points flowing into them. side question - should i configure them as access points where applicable even if they are non cisco? I am replacing three netgear switches that currently are in place and have no known issues other than they are old and the fans may fail soon.hooked up .217. was able to get to it from the network. Hooked up 215 and then 216. All the sudden I lost the ability to tap into the switches, any of them. (I think I had done 215 at that point too, before adding 216. I found out later it took the network to its knees as internet was lost, and the MPLS stopped functioning.
I undid the changes and put the netgears back in service and all was right with the world again. At first I thought it was a bad host name as I had used whse-a on switch C in error. I changed that after this issue.Later that day I put 215 in place. checked it from the network and could get to it just fine. Then I put 216 in service. I lost connection to 215. I could no longer get to the internet from my pc and the MPLS went down again. This time I just unhooked 216. 215 is still in place and working on the network at the moment and not causing issues. (btw these switches are not even in my path from my pc to the internet, just on the same network) tomorrow I am going to try 217 again while 215 is still on the network and see if there are any issues adding that swtich. if I can do so, and there are no problems, is this an indication of a faulty switch? what further testing can I do, have I missed something in setup? If this brings the network down again, why cant i add two of these switches to each other/on the same network path (B and C were not even connected to each other yesterday evening when it went down again).

I am not on site and I have not seen a WS-C3750V2-24PS-S. Customer has a stack of 6 x WS-C3750V2-24PS-S and one unit has failed. We do not have a WS-C3750V2-24PS-S spare. Can we replace it with a standard WS-C3750-24PS-S (not V2) switch and be part ofthe stack.
1. Are there any traps gotchas?
2. What about IOS versions - aren't they different for V2 switches
3. Are the stack ports and stack cables same for both WS-C3750V2-24PS-S and WS-C3750-24PS-S
4. What is the main reason for bringing out the V2 switches. What features do they have extra?

I have a very simple setup containing 3 C2960S switches:switch 1: central switch, acting as router between VLAN 1 en VLAN 2switch 2+3: edge switches, connected via 1 link to central switch, both on VLAN 2,Clients connect to switch 2 and 3 using dhcp, switch 1 uses dhcp relay to forward requests from VLAN 2 to the dhcp server on VLAN 1. So far so good. Now I want switch 1 to add option 82 to the dhcp requests so the dhcp server can see whether the request came through switch 2 or switch 3. I tried turning on dhcp option 82 support on switch 1 by doing.

Firmware 1.3 introduced a DHCP server.
It seems that I can add a pool for any subnet except the 192.168.1.1/24. I have successfully added a pool for 192.168.0.1/24, 172.16.16.1/24, etc. But when I use the same commands to add a 192.168.1.1/24 pool, I get:
sw(config)#ip dhcp pool network Device sw(config-dhcp)#address low 192.168.1.20 high 192.168.1.250 255.255.255.0 Illegal IP addresses range or subnet configuration Trying to configure a network pool on default IP interface
VLAN 1 IP was changed from default 192.168.1.254 to a static of 192.168.0.1.

I am having an issue with VoiP phones giving me an insufficient bandwidth message. I have three remote locations connected to our main building using 2 Mb point to point ethernet solutions through TWC. Each remote location has a Cisco WS-C3560-24PS running IOS C3560-IPBASE-M, version 12.2(25) and have the cable modems plugged into port 1 on them. The remote buildings are labeled 192.168.101.xxx, 192.168.102.xxx, and 192.168.103.xxx. There are 14-16 VoiP phones in each remote building. The main building being in the subnet of 192.168.100.xxx. I have the 3560s connecting to a single port on a 2801 in the main building, all using the subnet of 192.168.253.xxx The phone server sits in our network at 192.168.100.203. I have created the ACLs, class maps, and policy maps on all of the equipment.
For the remote buildings I have the following:
ACL
===========
Extended IP access list VOIP
permit tcp any host 192.168.100.203 dscp ef
permit tcp any host 192.168.100.203 eq 5566
[Code]....
I have put a hub in to capture traffic via Wireshark to see if DSCP flags are being appropriately marked and I do see that all VoiP packets are getting marked with as EF. However, I have been receiving phone calls from people in the remote buildings stating that their phones will cut out, flash Insufficient Bandwidth on the LCD displays and then the call will cut back in. I am wondering if the 2801 is not applying QoS with the rate-limits in mind since it is set to 100 Mb, or is it an issue with trying to take 3 remote locations and bring them down into 1 port on the 2801?

I have a WS-C3560G-24PS service as a distribution switch with six (6) WS-C2950T-24 connected to it. In looking at the utilization on the inter connect links no one is running close to a gig speed and this includes the link between this switch and the core. The CPU load (6%) and memory utilization (30%) on the switch do not seem bad so what else does one watch to see if it needs an upgrade?
We are starting tohave discussions about any needed upgrades on the network. I have an ocassional user that complaines about low performance but looking through the network I can find nothing glaring on a consistent basis that says an upgrade is warranted. I am however looking at things such as the above. Utilization on links, CPU, memory, etc.

I used to use a CentOS self-made server for intranet for my little office, but I bouth few days ago a Cisco 861 router to replace the linux box.
1. I have 2 public IP classes from my ISP. 1 class is limitted to 80mbit upload, the other to 30mbit upload. So I need some sort of DNAT to be able to know exactly which intranet computer uses big internet and which one limitted internet.
2. I need DHCP server and with static IP addresses (one computer must always have the same IP address, etc).. i have my needs for this.
3. Also I need external access to some servers inside (web, ftp, etc) [code]
So far so good, all looks simple and I can achieve this in 2 hours on a centos linux box (correct routes, ip forwarding enabled and few iptables rules for NAT/SNAT/DNAT).
But on this brand new Centos router well, i'm not even successful in pinging the outside world, nor the inside world I'm tired of reading the forums, the documentation..i want (at first) a simple scenario: vlan+dhcp, fa4 with 1 public ip address and ACCESS to the real world. I wasn't able to achieve not even that much. [code]

I have trouble with a Cisco 892 Router from my Internet service provider.
Last week we switched from a virtual Router to a hardware Router. But after plugging it in our LAN Switch, the Windows DHCP Server stopped leasing IP's. I got many BAD_ADDRESS with MAC like e1:80:10:ac, e2:80:10:ac, e3:80:10:ac, e4:80:10:ac, e5:80:10:ac, ea:80:10:ac, eb:80:10:ac, ec:80:10:ac and so on.
I do not have access to the Router config, so I can not dump the config to you. We have a flat LAN, single SUB-Net(172.16.0.0/16) and no VLAN, no Spanning Tree. A Keep it Simple, Stupid(KISS) System.
A tech guy from service provider, is telling us, the error is not there fault and my switch is not correctly configured. But this is ********. For years we had a another Cisco Router from the precursor ISP and for 2 years the virtual Router from our current ISP. No trouble with my DHCP. But after plugging the new Router in, my DHCP stopped working. On the 892 is no running DHCP, but something interferences with my Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 DHCP Server.

I've been experimenting with the 'vlan dot1q tag native' command on a switch and it seems as though tagging the native vlan breaks vty access to my access point. With the 'vlan dot1q tag native' commnand applied, I lose management connectivity to the AP with 'no vlan dot1q tag native' applied, connectivity is restored. Why is this? Is it safe to say that one can access the AP via vty lines using ONLY untagged packets?

I am running into a DHCP problem on a Cisco 891 running 15.0(1)M2. I am running DHCP on the router and want to reserve an address for a printer. I have done this hundreds of times on hundreds of routers. Per Cisco recommendation, I let the printer lease an address to see whether it uses it's "hardware-address" or "client-id". This printer uses the "hardware-address" format. The printer has leased 10.0.0.102 right off the bat. I want it at 10.0.0.50.
I have a DHCP pool, like this:
ip dhcp pool CLIENT
network 10.0.0.0 255.255.255.0
domain-name chsinc.ds
default-router 10.0.0.1
dns-server 10.0.0.1
lease 2
I create a "reservation" like so:
ip dhcp pool HP_LaserJet_Printer
host 10.0.0.50 255.255.255.0
hardware abcd.ef12.3456
Now I do a "show running-config" to see what I've put in and it looks just like above. Now we reset the network settings or change any network setting on the printer to force it to renew it's lease. What should happen and what usually happens is that the printer should request an IP, be offered 10.0.0.50, accept that IP and come up on that IP address. What is happening with this particular printer is that the printer requests a specific IP (the same IP that it had initially = 10.0.0.102), the router says OK and does not enforce the reservation. Then the router actually deletes the hardware-address config line right out of the running config. A "show running-config" shows that the reservation config now looks like this:
ip dhcp pool HP_LaserJet_Printer
host 10.0.0.50 255.255.255.0
See the logs below. Notice the ones in bold.
000226: Dec 12 17:34:01.382: DHCPD: Seeing if there is an internally specified pool class:
000227: Dec 12 17:34:01.382: DHCPD: htype 1 chaddr 101f.74b0.575c
000228: Dec 12 17:34:01.382: DHCPD: remote id 020a00000ae1e10100000001
000229: Dec 12 17:34:01.382: DHCPD: circuit id 00000000
[code]....
Is there a way to make the router enforce the reservation and not let clients just bring their own IP and actually make changes to the running-config of the router?

I had a separate DHCP/DNS server running Windows Server 2008 handling the DHCP request and DNS queries.

I have a DHCP server for a subnet that has only lightweight WAP's in it. The DHCP server is running on the gateway for this subnet which is a 3750X 2 switch stack running 12.2(53r)se2.I have the following configured:
ip dhcp excluded-address 10.1.10.161 10.1.10.162
ip dhcp pool DHCP-VL20
network 10.1.10.160 255.255.255.224
domain-name mydomain.net
dns-server 10.11.11.30 10.11.11.40
default-router 10.1.10.161
ease 3
The server hands out up to 18 IP addresses and no more, with 20 devices on the subnet. Scanning the subnet with a 3rd party network management system I see the following IP's never get handed out or used:
10.1.10.161 - 162 (manually excluded)
10.1.10.167 - 168
10.1.10.171 - 176
10.1.10.178
and of course 2 IP's I have manually excluded, 11 IP's in all that wont get handed out. It should only be 2 that don't get handed out. I've double and triple checked the exclusion and thats the only one. so I run a 'sh ip dhcp pool' and see this:
Pool DHCP-VL20 :
Utilization mark (high/low) : 100 / 0
Subnet size (first/next) : 0 / 0
Total addresses : 30
[code]....
[edit]I should also mention that "sh ip dhcp bind" does not show these randomly excluded IP's in use. They also do not show up in any arp table I can find.I have looked all over the config and I cant find where these extra 9 addresses are being excluded. how to free up these 9 seemingly random exclusions? Haven't issued a reload and I haven't deleted and rebuilt the DHCP server yet, production network.
