Cisco Switching/Routing :: Input Discard On Nexus 4001?

Nov 17, 2011

I have 2 NX4001. Each one has an uplink to a 5K. There is no VPC between the 4K and the 5K. The 5K are  VPC enabled.There is a large number on input discards on the 4001 interfaces connected to the 5K and is incrementing.I have a server with smartfailover that is flapping and I think the input discard might be the culprit.what is the cause on input discard. Note: All NXOS  to the latest.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Err-Discard On X2-10-GB-LRM 3750 And 4507

Jan 19, 2012

we have a core switch 4507RE at the data center and 2 departments that connect to it via 10Gig fiber using X2-LRM modules. Each department  has a 3 switch stack and both locations are identical w.r.t type and setup scenario.the stack comprises of  1 x 3750E and 2 x 3750G . uplink is from X2 port tengig3/0/1 from the 3750E switch.

All of a sudden dept B started facing problem , where the ping would break and throughput comes around 6 - 7 mbps   from that dept to the server behind the core switch.   we also noted CRC error on both sides preodically.

we replaced the multimode fiber patch cords, re did the splicing , which  stopped the CRC errors to appear.now since morning the uplink port on the 3750E (3/0/1) would suddenly be in "down" state    with (err-disabled) as the status  when i run sh int ten 3/0/1

and i can also see CRC errors and input errors on the same interface..   if i do shut / no shut .. the port is up and active again..    but this has happned 3 times today.the core swith side is still OK and no CRC / input / output  errors are seen..

now on the 3750E i have  swapped the 10gig module from 3/0/1 to 3/0/2 .  the port is still up but i can see 400 CRC and 500 Input errrors.the module is also OK as i had replaced it with dept 1's module.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Giving Out Discard Error On 3750E

We're seeing "OutDiscard" error on a LAN switch connected to newly migrated Cisco IP phones. All the other error counters are clean except for the OutDiscard. (please see attached "show int count err" output.) [URL].

According to the link above, the common cause of such discards can be to free up buffer space.(Am I seeing a switch buffer issue?) How to identify/resolve the cause of the OutDiscard.The switch is 3750-E running c3750e-universalk9-mz.122-44.SE6.bin

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3560G And 2950 Switch Trunk Discard Errors

Apr 15, 2010

I have two 3560G 24 port switches. Each of them connects to some 3560G or 2950 switches. Trunks between 3560G are set as 1000/full. Trunks between 3560G and 2950 are set as 100/full. show int status also shows the interface negotiation is 100/full for trunks between 3560G and 2950. The issue is I keep getting outdiscard errors in trunks between 3560G and 2950. At 2950 switches, I see Recv-errors too. I checked all the trunks traffic. They are totally not high. Only serveal mbps. Most time even lower than 1mbps.

I googled this kind of issue online. I see it could be possibly caused by high volume traffic higher than the capacity. But it appears the traffic there is not high enough to cause this kind of issue. Is there any possiblity that could cause this problem?

The below is 3560G trunk configuration for 2950 switch

interface GigabitEthernet0/10 switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q switchport trunk allowed vlan 1-122,124-4094 switchport mode trunk speed 100 duplex full srr-queue bandwidth share 10 10 60 20 queue-set 2 priority-queue out mls qos trust cos auto qos voip trust

the trunk configuration at 2950 switch: interface FastEthernet0/24 switchport trunk allowed vlan 1-122,124-4094 speed 100 duplex full

Cisco Switching/Routing :: RP / Input Drops On 6500 Sup 720 10GE

What does RP drops entail? We are experiencing 0.23 % drops on an vlan int on one of our 6500. This interface is an L3 to a server-subnet. Doing a sh int vlan 238 switching shows 30935411 RP (Route Processing) drops.It was a bit unclear to me in the thread "Input queue drops on 6500 vlan interface" if RP drops was through the router, or to the router(mgmnt)?I can do a netdr to see what traffic goes to it. It should not generate CPU load, but I think I will wait until after hours before I try that command.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Cat 2960 - Map / Service-Policy Input Is Not Working

Nov 10, 2011

I have some trouble with that policy-map on my 2960 or 3560 switches with LAN base 12.2(53)SE2. I want to use that feature to catch video traffic from webcams in laptops  which can't send dscp values out of the box. This is my test config to check if the function is working: catch every traffic from my workstation for testing, access-list 101 permit ip any any, class-map match-all CL_TEST

1. I can't see any counters with the command "sh policy-map interface  FastEthernet 0/1". Cisco tells that this command is not possible. But how I can see if the policy is working correct?
2. When I did the configuration I can't see any packets with dscp af41 on the out going interface on the switch with "sh mls qos int gi0/1 statistic" as I expected. After reloading the switch I see the pakets with af41. Okay for that moment. But.After that I changed something in the policy-map. Only "set ip dscp ef" for a second test.

Generating some traffic I see only packets with af41 as before I changed the policy-map. No traffic with ef on the outgoing interface.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3560G Input And Crc Errors Only On Built In Ports?

Mar 11, 2013

I have an odd situation where I cannot get a device connected to a built in switchport with out input and crc errors.  When connecting to a GLC-T sfp it works fine.Here is my test layout

Outdoor wireless AP --- 10' of cat6 cable --- Gigabit POE injector --- 10' Cat6 cable --- 3560G port 48.  (input and crc errors)

When I do this there are input and crc errors on the switch port.  This has been confirmed on three different switches and three different outdoor AP's.  We though at first it was the injector, but when we run the same setup, but instead connect the device to port 49 with a GLC-T sfp there are no errors.

Outdoor wireless AP --- 10' of cat6 cable --- Gigabit POE injector --- 10' Cat6 cable --- 3560G port 49 (GLC-T).  (No errors)

I have upgraded the 3560G to the latest ios and still it has the same problem.  If I run the same setup to a 2960 there are no errors at all.

Outdoor wireless AP --- 10' of cat6 cable --- Gigabit POE injector --- 10' Cat6 cable --- 2960 port g0/1  (No errors)

I have also tried manually setting the speed on the 3560G with no success.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: SUP-7E - Input /output Rate Not Incrementing Under VLan

Mar 6, 2013

On my SUP-7E, when I issue a " show interface vlan X "  I cannot see the expected input/rate reflecting the real rate (which should be very high).

  5 minute input rate 0 bits/sec, 0 packets/sec
  5 minute output rate 4000 bits/sec, 2 packets/sec

(Under the physical interfaces it is ok)However on other SUP-IV I can see the real rate.

My questions are :

- Why the SUP-7E does not reflect the rate, whereas the SUP-IV does ?

- I have heard about the 'counter' command under the vlan interface to activate the rate counters. Is this command application has any side effect on the switch ?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3560 And 3750 - Any Way To Check For MLS QoS Input Queue Drops?

I feel that 3560 and 3750 perform differently with the following two commands:

srr-queue bandwidth shape 5 0 0 0
srr-queue bandwidth limit 50
 On 3750, the bandwidth for queue 1 is limited to 100mbps x 50% / 5 = 10mbps
On 3560, the bandwidth for queue 1 is limited to the smaller value of BW / shape weight and BW x limit%.

Does it sound about right?  is there a way to check for mls qos input queue drops? The show mls qos interface xxx stat only shows the output queue drops. Maybe for some reason the input queue never drops?
