I wanted to know that in nexus 7009, can i use mix of F2/M1/M2 series line cards ? will they work with each other ? Lets say i have F2 line card and M2 line card, will servers attached to them will communicate with each other ?
View 4 RepliesI have two data centres connected via a L2 DWDM, my manager wants to look into using OTV to get rid of the layer 2 broadcasting issues.
Problem is the DWDM is 1000BaseSX, which is only supported on the N7K-F132XP-15. (and the N7K-M148GS-11 but that doesn't support FCOE, so many bloody caveats). From what I can gather OTV is not supported on the N7K-F132XP-15.
Is it possible to terminate the DWDM on the F1 card & loop another port from the F1 to a port on the N7K-M148GT-11 & run OTV on the M1????
Either using VDCs or just an isolated VLAN on the F1. Is there any better way to do this? Hardware has not yet been purchased.
I need to upgrade my core switches at one of our locations (two 7009s with dual sups) from 6.0.1 to 6.1.2. After looking through the release notes it appears that this will be a disruptive upgrade?how long should I expect for the disruption? Are we talking a 7009 boot cycle (10 - 15 minutes) or something longer?How many disruptions can I expect? I suspect 1 per chassis during the failover to the standby but I'd like to validate.Is there any compelling reason to upgrade the EPDL? From what I can see, again from the release notes, this is only necessary with F2 cards if I were to upgrade to Sup2s . I'm in a healthcare environment and this upgrade will be affecting one of our major campuses so the more info I can get to the managers the more accepting they will be for the disruptions.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWe are migrating from Catalyst 6509 IOS platforms to Nexus 7009. There's the normal differences in commands which is well doucumented. We do have some quite large files containing ACLs varying from 10's of lines to several 1000's of lines. Our normal upload would be done using tftp and then issuing the command 'conf net' on the the 6509. This is no longer the way to do this on NX-OS. I've tried copy ftp: running-config which works fine for small files but for big ones it takes a long time, in some cases I've see it takes 20-30 minutes. The initilal tftp uplaod to the 7009 seems OK but the copy into the running-config is the bit that takes time and initially I thought I'd killed the 7009!! It did finally come back to the prompt. Are the 7009's simply not designed for large ACLs? I did try the configure session (Session Manager) but I couldn't see a way of uploading a file. I tried creating a new session and then exiting it, copying in a file of the same format and then commiting it but it didn't seem to acknowledge the file (checksum?).

We are looking to deploy two Nexus 7009 cores at our two datacenters. They are approximately 2 miles apart. We are hoping to have 10G Dark Fiber between the buildings and therefore dedicate a pair for FCOE between the cores using 10G Long Range SFP's. I read that the Nexus 5000 series had a limit of ~3 km for FCOE. Does the same hold true for the 7000 series? I thought I read somehwere that the buffers were larger on the 7000 series and therefore would be able to do ~30 km.

My client will be replacing their aging 6509 chassis with 7009 devices, but the physicals dont tally with the install guidelines for the 7009 series chassis. The current install of the 6509s does not tally with the recommended install guidelines for those either, but they have not expereienced any heat issues...
The 7009 will be fitted with 2xSUP2E, 3x48portSFP-F2E cards and 2x10GSFP-M2 cards with 2x6K PSUs. I am genuinely concerned they may cook these devices, but space restrictions look like vetoing the upgrade to 800 wide racks. Likewise moving to 7010 chassis may prove tricky due to existing other installs within the racks limiting vertical space.
We've gotten two Nexus 7009's in and I'm starting to configure them when I found I couldn't add VDCs. I found there was no license installed but the only licenses I found that came with them are "Cisco DCNM for LAN Enterprise Lic for one Nexus 7000 Chassis". So my question is this - do I need to configure a DCNM server to get the license pushed to these two 7009s or should there be another PAK for each chassis that I can register and get my enterprise services?
View 1 Replies View Relatedwe've been using IOS for a long time, but are relatively new to NX-OS. We've got a central syslog server that all our devices log to. No matter what we do, we can't get our Nexus switches to log there. Here's my current attempt:

The default VRF is working. I see log entries in the logfile, but nothing arrives at the syslog server. It's not a config issue on the server, because tcpdump shows that no packets arrive from the IP for loopback 0.

I've 4500 Core Switch with 4507R chassis, Sup V-10GE(WS-X4516-10GE) along with 2 WS-X4306-GB line Cards, but now I require a line card for 14 more fiber up links and I cannot go with 3 of 4306 as there are only 2 slots left. I've checked and found that E series line cards does not work with Sup V Engine.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a Cisco 4500 Sup 6 engine and I have two 48 port fiber line cards installed. When I do a show interfaces I do not see any of the Fiber cards. This is a new out of the box 4500 and I installed the Sup 6 Line card in Slot #1, And the two 48 port Fiber cards in Slots 2 and 3. Am I missing something, is there a command or set up procidure for the line cards. I just assumed they were plug and play

The reason is because a consultant was hired on to "design" the network layout and has decided to purchase Cisco SFP+ Copper Twinax Cables which have a 10M limit. A small handful of the Data Center racks are 10-15M away... just out of reach of the Twinax. I would prefer NOT to move the LAN row so that it is more centered in the room. Can I use the SFP-10G-SR to connect the 2 switches (5596 & 2248) together? This SFP has a 26M reach on standard 10gig fiber, the small cost increase per connection is of no concern.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWe need to move some line cards around on our 4510. The top slots have a 24Gbps backplane while the lower slots are limited to 6Gbps. Poor planning on our part has left us with installing a 10Gb line card in one of the bottom slots. I'd like to move a couple of the cards up top, to the bottom.
My question is simply will the switch magically preserve the configuration for those cards and change the slot number for me or will I need to reconfigure the interfaces for those cards I move?
I have a requirement to upgrade some line cards in our 4510R-E chassis to ease some oversubscription due to the 6Gbps limit.
At the moment my plan is to upgrade three cards from WS-X4548-GB-RJ45 to X4648 to get the 24Gbps per card.
Supervisors are 6-E
1. Is this a viable plan?
2. If so can the cards be hot-swapped?
3. Would the new cards retain the existing interface settings of the previous cards?
4. Any gotchas to look out for?
I would like to know whether WOL is supported on a N7K with 6.x code and F2 line cards. I also would like a how to for this. If it is not supported will an ip helper address to the broadcast address of the destination vlan SVI will suffice to get it workinng. If so I can restricht the forwarded broadcast to only the wol traffic.

The bug details is not disclosed. So I further search what the default memory size of the WS-F6700-CFC is, then I found here says it is only supported by Sup720 and no memory upgrade option, which means must upgrade to DFC4, in another words, it is not compatible with Sup-2T

View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently changed the entire configuration on two 6509 switches, and the fibre modules on slot 7 and 8 have gone down on BOTH switches. It would be easy to say that its a hardware fault but I cannot understand how module 7 and 8 can go down on both switches. Initially I thought it maybe due to IOS bug 22-33.SXI2a.bin" so I upgraded it to s72033-advipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-18.SXF12a.bin but it still down.These are the actions I have carrried out to try resolve the issue:
- Reverted back to orginal configs but no luck
- Tried to use "power enable" command but the status light on both modules seems to turn red and then go off again.
- I have also tried to put one of the fibre modules into a different slot but no joy
- Upgraded the IOS from 22-33.SXI2a. to 122-18.SXF12a
I am sure that hardware fault cannot occur on BOTH modules 7 & 8 on BOTH switches after config change.The error in the log shows that modules "failed to bring online because of registration timer event". I understand this means that it is unable to download the image within the allocated time. [code]
I wonder are 4500-E series line cards (i.e. WS-X4648-GB-RJ45, WS-X4748-UPOE+E and WS-X4606-X2-E) supported on 4507R chassis? Datasheet says "Classic line cards may be deployed in both classic and E-Series chassis with either classic Cisco Catalyst 4500 Series supervisor engines or with the Cisco Catalyst 4500E Series Supervisor Engine." But it says nothing about E-Series line-cards being (or not) supported on classic chassis (like 4507R).

I've already got the mls qos configured, and have the correct class maps built for Voice, Video, and Signalling.(I'm not doing autoqos). I have only four classes; voice, video, signalling, and default (best effort).I need to configure the commands on the individual gig ports for the appropriate bandwidths as shown below:
1. 300 VoIP G711 calls x 100kbs/call = 30mbs of priority queue DSCP = EF (46) CoS = 5
2. 150 Video conference calls x 1.5mbs/call = 225mbs DSCP = CS4 (32) CoS = 4
3. 450 Signalling x 13kps/call = 5.8mbs (round to 6mbs) DSCP = CS3 (24) CoS = 3
4. Default class is not marked DSCP & CoS = 0

I have a number of existing 4506 chassis type switches (the older non -E version) that I would like to roll out IP phones to. Instead of replacing the entire chassis, I would like to just replace the line cards in the switches with WS-X4548-GB-RJ45V. We are able to do the authentication and authorization via ACS.However clients wants to further integrate the ACS with RSA so that authentication should happen via RSA and authorization should happen ACS. Is that possible ? if yes, how can i configure the ACS ?
