Is it possible to configure the switchports on a 6500 linecard before it has been inserted?
So for example, I have a 6509 with slot 9 free. I'm going to install a 48 port line card. Is it possible to configure those 48 ports before the card is inserted?
When quoting a WS-X6724-SFP line card for a Catalyst 6500:
1. If no Distributed Forwarding Card 3 (DFC3) is selected, can it be purchased at a later time as a spare part or the client needs to buy the line card with the DFC3 included from start?
2. Does each line card require a DFC3 in order to be able to perform localized forwarding decisions?
3. Does the DFC3 card is embedded in the line card physically?
I previously put this is the 'Video over IP' discussions group, which is not getting any response.I have a 6509 and need to configure QoS on gig line cards that have 1P3Q8T queue structure. I've already got the mls qos configured, and have the correct class maps built for Voice, Video, and Signalling.(I'm not doing autoqos). I have only four classes; voice, video, signalling, and default (best effort).I need to configure the commands on the individual gig ports for the appropriate bandwidths as shown below:
1. 300 VoIP G711 calls x 100kbs/call = 30mbs of priority queue DSCP = EF (46) CoS = 5
2. 150 Video conference calls x 1.5mbs/call = 225mbs DSCP = CS4 (32) CoS = 4
3. 450 Signalling x 13kps/call = 5.8mbs (round to 6mbs) DSCP = CS3 (24) CoS = 3
4. Default class is not marked DSCP & CoS = 0
I know there are some line cards on the 6500 that do not play well with each other when trying to setup an etherchannel using two different line cards on the same chassis. I always thought it was line cards of different type, i.e. 6400 with a 6700 but these two line cards are exactly the same model with the same code level.
1) Are the error messages below from this incompatibility between line cards and etherchannel creation?
2) How to fix if the answer to #1 is yes?
3) What line cards work with which for etherchannel creation?
I have a Cisco 4500 Sup 6 engine and I have two 48 port fiber line cards installed. When I do a show interfaces I do not see any of the Fiber cards. This is a new out of the box 4500 and I installed the Sup 6 Line card in Slot #1, And the two 48 port Fiber cards in Slots 2 and 3. Am I missing something, is there a command or set up procidure for the line cards. I just assumed they were plug and play
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have two data centres connected via a L2 DWDM, my manager wants to look into using OTV to get rid of the layer 2 broadcasting issues.
Problem is the DWDM is 1000BaseSX, which is only supported on the N7K-F132XP-15. (and the N7K-M148GS-11 but that doesn't support FCOE, so many bloody caveats). From what I can gather OTV is not supported on the N7K-F132XP-15.
Is it possible to terminate the DWDM on the F1 card & loop another port from the F1 to a port on the N7K-M148GT-11 & run OTV on the M1????
Either using VDCs or just an isolated VLAN on the F1. Is there any better way to do this? Hardware has not yet been purchased.
We need to move some line cards around on our 4510. The top slots have a 24Gbps backplane while the lower slots are limited to 6Gbps. Poor planning on our part has left us with installing a 10Gb line card in one of the bottom slots. I'd like to move a couple of the cards up top, to the bottom.
My question is simply will the switch magically preserve the configuration for those cards and change the slot number for me or will I need to reconfigure the interfaces for those cards I move?
I have a requirement to upgrade some line cards in our 4510R-E chassis to ease some oversubscription due to the 6Gbps limit.
At the moment my plan is to upgrade three cards from WS-X4548-GB-RJ45 to X4648 to get the 24Gbps per card.
Supervisors are 6-E
1. Is this a viable plan?
2. If so can the cards be hot-swapped?
3. Would the new cards retain the existing interface settings of the previous cards?
4. Any gotchas to look out for?
I would like to know whether WOL is supported on a N7K with 6.x code and F2 line cards. I also would like a how to for this. If it is not supported will an ip helper address to the broadcast address of the destination vlan SVI will suffice to get it workinng. If so I can restricht the forwarded broadcast to only the wol traffic.

I also find the IOS release note indicate the 6704-10G with CFC is supported by Sup-2T, but it require 512M memory.

The bug details is not disclosed. So I further search what the default memory size of the WS-F6700-CFC is, then I found here says it is only supported by Sup720 and no memory upgrade option, which means must upgrade to DFC4, in another words, it is not compatible with Sup-2T

View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently changed the entire configuration on two 6509 switches, and the fibre modules on slot 7 and 8 have gone down on BOTH switches. It would be easy to say that its a hardware fault but I cannot understand how module 7 and 8 can go down on both switches. Initially I thought it maybe due to IOS bug 22-33.SXI2a.bin" so I upgraded it to s72033-advipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-18.SXF12a.bin but it still down.These are the actions I have carrried out to try resolve the issue:
- Reverted back to orginal configs but no luck
- Tried to use "power enable" command but the status light on both modules seems to turn red and then go off again.
- I have also tried to put one of the fibre modules into a different slot but no joy
- Upgraded the IOS from 22-33.SXI2a. to 122-18.SXF12a
I am sure that hardware fault cannot occur on BOTH modules 7 & 8 on BOTH switches after config change.The error in the log shows that modules "failed to bring online because of registration timer event". I understand this means that it is unable to download the image within the allocated time. [code]
I wonder are 4500-E series line cards (i.e. WS-X4648-GB-RJ45, WS-X4748-UPOE+E and WS-X4606-X2-E) supported on 4507R chassis? Datasheet says "Classic line cards may be deployed in both classic and E-Series chassis with either classic Cisco Catalyst 4500 Series supervisor engines or with the Cisco Catalyst 4500E Series Supervisor Engine." But it says nothing about E-Series line-cards being (or not) supported on classic chassis (like 4507R).

View 2 Replies View RelatedI currently have a VSS setup on 2 6509-E using 2x VS-S720-10G.Today I tried to install 2x X6708-10G-3CXL, one into each chassis. The first log message I got was that fan tray was going into high-speed mode, is this correct?I then installed the second card in the 2nd chassis and it killed my VSS and proceed to reload the switches. it now also appears to have killed one of my WS-X6724-SFP cards, as it no-longer boots and I get the following errors:

The SuperVisor engine in slot 1 of a Catalyst 6513 needed to be replaced because a hardware defect. The SuperVisor engine in slot 2 is active and running CatOS 8.5. The new SuperVisor engine for slot 1 came with CatOS 6.3 and was not syncronized auromatically after insertion. When the customer enter the command "Show boot" he get the output:

I have a Cisco 6500 router at my POP site and I have a Cisco 2811 at the tail site. I have to bond 3 city to city T1s to make a 4.5Mg pipe between the 2 ends. How do I configure the routers to make this happen? This is a configuration example for a single T1:
POP end on 6500:

We have Nexus 7k running as my core with a 6500 manageing my server farm and IP services servers (call manager, IPTV ...)My edge switch are 4500s. We currently have RIP2 running between and the switchs and each 4500 is managing its own VLANs.The IPTV uses IGMP snooping and multicasting to broadcast the video feed. The problem that came up is that the we cannot configure a gatewar for the setup boxs for the IPTV system. They will only work on a single VLAN and they are spread all over the network.Can we configure only this VLAN to be propagated over our RIP network???

I would like to configure the 6500 to respond to NTP messages as the NTP Master. However will the 6500's source remain as the internet based NTP Servers?? I have a switch layer 6500 series connected to a firewall, the port configuration between them is layer 2, in another words I do not configure an IP address in the Cisco switch port to conected it in the firewall, but when a apply a policy on firewall it lose communication with others vlans, just the vlan that is connected between the switch and firewall works, attachment the design. I think that is necessary to configure the connection between the firewall and switch as layer 3 ( a port with IP address in the switch), but I would like to know why? The switch is configured with about 10 vlan and it is a inter vlan routing, a default route is configured in the switch where the gateway is the firewall.

From the avaya wires are run to the 66 block and from there to the outlets. So i think i can connect a cable from the avaya to the 66 block and it automaticaly give an extension number, but how do i add a phone line number to that connection?

I tried to connected a server to the int g5/2 and assigned the poper parameters(VLAN, speed, ...etc) but I am the int is showing down. Is there some type of limitations in using the second port of each line card?

If the supervisor supports a feature does that mean it is globally supported on a switch? Or do I need to check the compatibility of these line cards as to if they support these features?
