Jul 30, 2012We have two sites: 192.168.100.x and 192.168.101.x currently connected via IPsec VPN. On each end we have a Cisco ASA 5505. However, each site also has an MPLS VPN with intentions to move all traffic to this link. Will this work on the ASA? We need to make sure traffic can hit the ASA @ site A on the inside interface and trafiic will forward to the MPLS VPN router which then handles the traffic. Too, will it cause any problems in bi-directional flow between the two sites?

Nov 21, 2012I'm working on setting up a template configuration for the Cisco ASA 5505 device that we'll use to configure more routers for various client needs. One of the requirements requested of me is the following: Internal hosts assigned a DHCP address are blocked from the internet Internal hosts with a static IP are permitted access to internet All internal hosts can communicate regardless of state
Now, I'm fairly new to this and I'm certain my terminology isn't correct so googling the problem has been fruitless. I have followed basic configuration guides and have configured the device to hand out DHCP addresses to hosts plugged in ports 1-7. If I'm plugged in and specify my address manually in the OS I am blocked from any access so I can only assume there is an access policy or some rule preventing me from authenticating against the router despite having set up VLAN1 to be the entire class C subnet. What sort of steps would I need to do to configure this? New access lists. For the record, the dhcp addresses are in the range of 10.100.31.64-10.100.31.95. VPN users are assigned an address from 10.100.31.220-10.100.31.240 and there seems to be no issues with that configuraiton. I don't wish to constrain what addresses a user can use should they specify a static IP (10.100.31.5 should be just as valid as 10.100.31.100).

Dec 27, 2012I have a stack of 2 x 3750X switches these are running 12.2(55)SE5. I needed to add some static IP routes and found that the ‘ip routing’ command is not supported. I came across a document that stated “On switches running the LAN base feature, static routing on VLANs is supported only with Cisco IOS Release 12.2(58)SE and later.” So I have upgraded to 12.2(58)SE2, but ‘ip routing’ is still not a valid command.
The release notes state:“On the Cisco Catalyst 3560-X and 3750-X Series, it adds support for 16 static IPv4 routes in the LAN Base image.”
I have read other posts that talk about running the ‘sdm prefer routing’ command which I have done, but I am still unable to add any routes or run the ‘ip routing’ command.

May 28, 2013Two Cisco C2960G Switches connected with each other using an EtherChannel Trunk Ports.IOS Image has been upgraded to c2960-lanbasek9-mz. 122- 58.SE2.bin.The global command "sdm prefer lanbase-routing" has been executed to set the default template to "lanbase-routing".The global command "ip routing" has been executed to enable the ip routing.An IP route has been configured in each switch to point to each other for the static routing purpose (Please see the 2 attached configuration files) The hosts in VLAN 111 and VLAN 110 are not able to see each other even the ip static routes have been configured.May be I have misconfigured some settings but not sure what's the actual problem.

Feb 15, 2013We have two Cisco 5505 firewalls connecting to two ISP's . The two internal LAN's on the firewalls are 192.168.184.0/24 & 192.168.186.0/24. We also have a Cisco C3560x layer3 switch with vlan interfaces 184.3 & 186.3. We have two DGS-3100 Dlink layer 2 switches connecting our users to the Layer 3. Ip routing is enabled for intervlan communication & I can reach the Switch interfaces & firewall gateways from machines on both on the vlans.We have pbr enabled on the 3560 & users only on the .186 network can get to the internet. The switch is running the ipservices license & the sdm template is "desktop routing" .
Users on the .184 cannot access the internet but we can ping the layer3 interface & the firewall gateway. [code]

1) PPPOE dialer to my service provider over ADSL
2) Nat overload on the dialer interface.
3) 2 V LAN s one for home network (wired) and one for wireless both v LAN's are connected through interface v LAN s respectively.
My problem is when I configure static NAT to map RDP or any other protocol to inside hosts this does n`t work.

When I open wire shark and sniff the traffic on home computer which is the one I`m trying to reach I can't see any traffic. And While performing Nat debugging I am also not able to see traffic going to that port (for example 3389).

Jan 5, 2013I guess i am just getting old and forgot how this works, or i have an IOS load with an undocumented feature in it.A customer of ours wishes to have their exchange server appear to the outside world on a seperate IP address as their public pool address is.in the past this has not been an issue, however in the current configuration we are unable to get the source address to appear per the NAT statement it always sources on the overloaded IP. below is the relevant NAT config, am i missing something, or have i hit a IOS feature? Mar 11, 2012I am trying to configure a Cisco 871 router.I have 3 servers on my network that need static public IPs but also still need to communicate on the local network.
I have given my WAN interface the first IP in the block and set up PAT for the rest of the computers on the network which is working fine. Next I set up static NAT rules for the servers translating 3 of the remaining public IPs to the internal addresses of the servers.
I can access those servers internally using the public IPs but not from outside the network. A tracroute from outside the network gets dropped when it gets to my ISP.
I've never configured more than one static ip for a network before and i know i've just missed a step here. Do I also need to set up static routes? Will that update the next hop's routing table?

Feb 12, 2013I have a Cisco 2911 router and a Cisco 2960 switch at a remote location.I have a user who will work out of this office a few days out of the week and will need to obtain the same IP address everytime the user visits this office. This office has no file server, no dhcp server. I have the user's MAC address and for now, the user is getting an IP address that is leased for 30 days. I'm trying to find the best way to configure either the router or switch or both so that each time this user connects to this office, that user device will always pull the same IP address and of course no other device will use that IP.
I've did some research in creating a small vlan possibly, and assigning it specifically to the port# that the user's desk is at, but not sure if that's the best way or exactly sure how it'll work. I'm currently studying for my CCNA so this is all new to me and I'm trying to do research and test without obviously causing production issues especially given this is a remote site and I access these devices via putty. I can however drive to the site if needed for testing, but I'd like to have a good grasp on what method I'll be using that will work before I actually make the trip.

Dec 18, 2011We have one machine running an application accessible remotely. We have cisco877 router, and static ip to access the application remotely. We recently done an update of out application software which has changed the access port/link to application.
since we update the software We can access the application internally through local ip but is not accessible through WAN with static ip, as the port no has changed.
I not having much knowledge of networking don't know what changes should be made in router so it direct the traffic of static ip to the machine running the web application, as before.
I tried looking for clue in router through its SDM Express interface, but no joy.

Feb 2, 2013I used to use a CentOS self-made server for intranet for my little office, but I bouth few days ago a Cisco 861 router to replace the linux box.
1. I have 2 public IP classes from my ISP. 1 class is limitted to 80mbit upload, the other to 30mbit upload. So I need some sort of DNAT to be able to know exactly which intranet computer uses big internet and which one limitted internet.
2. I need DHCP server and with static IP addresses (one computer must always have the same IP address, etc).. i have my needs for this.
3. Also I need external access to some servers inside (web, ftp, etc) [code]
So far so good, all looks simple and I can achieve this in 2 hours on a centos linux box (correct routes, ip forwarding enabled and few iptables rules for NAT/SNAT/DNAT).
But on this brand new Centos router well, i'm not even successful in pinging the outside world, nor the inside world I'm tired of reading the forums, the documentation..i want (at first) a simple scenario: vlan+dhcp, fa4 with 1 public ip address and ACCESS to the real world. I wasn't able to achieve not even that much. [code]

I'm at a FOX affiliate TV station, and in order to connect our EAS Device to the internet & Fox Splicer, I need to setup a Statio NAT, so we picked up an 1841 on eBay.
I've done a little configuration in HyperTerminal.
I've done these ip addresses:
FE0/0 10.1.10.13 this is the subnet our EAS device is on
FE0/1 10.110.81.174 this is the subnet of the Fox Splicer.
I need to have NAT translate 10.1.10.11 to 10.110.81.170 and I also need to set a route for 10.110.81.0/24 pointing to 10.110.81.161

They frequently send traffic to each other, which gets sent over a slow SAT link. I introduced a router to the network and would like to set all my hosts default gateway to the local routers sub-interface then have a static route that send all traffic that is not on one of my 5 networks back to that VLANs respective SAT modem to get routed out over the Internet.

I am introducing a new network in our SF office which is not directly connected so in SF we have a static route "ip route 172.16.20.0 255.255.255.0 192.168.100.1. I want our other offices to learn this route route via OSPF so that they know how to get to the new network. My problem is that of course remote sites do not see our static routes and i have tried to add this via ospf but the switch will not propagate this route because it is not directly connected to the switch in SF.

Feb 19, 2013I have an issue with my setup of a 6500 switch (12.2(33)SXI9).We have a 6500 switch with several VRF's. For a certain VRF I would like to redistribute a static route in EIGRP. After doing so I don't see the static route on my eigrp neighbor.
This is a overview of my config. I'm basically redistributing only my static route for this vrf in eigrp.
I found a similar case in which the solution was adding a metric to the static route. (eg. redistribute static route-map static-eigrp-pp metric 10000 100 255 1 1500). But the strange thing is that we don't have this issue on a similar machine (same IOS, same config setup). [code]

May 23, 2012I have seen other discussions regarding Static MAC address entries on IPv4, but what of IPv6?We have MS NLB solutions and they are working fine. We have Cisco 6509/6504, Version 12.2(33)SXI5
But then we have a new one for a new ActiveDirectory solution, and on those networks we have implemented IPv6.
How is Static MAC address entries and MS NLB solved in IPv6 (i.e arp ip.ip.ip.ip mac.mac.mac ARPA gi1/1). I can't seem to find much examples or documentation on this? Is it replaced with another function?The reason I ask is twofold.

Apr 29, 2012I have run into a problem testing static route failovers using ECMP. I have an edge device (SUT) that has 2 NIC interfaces to an internal Loopback. Each NIC is a unique Gi port on an 7609 VLAN tagged with unique IP subnets. The 7600 is configured to route the loopback via the 2 NIC. I am using CEF in the network for other traffic performance testing. Using an external sniffer we can verify that when a ping is initiated externall to the SUT loopback a specific path is selected by the router.

Now, when the selected path is taken out of server (pulling cable for example), the 7609 is not clearing the routing table to indicate that particular path is down and failing over to the secondary path. Other things I have noticed is the show ip cef still shows both peers as well as the arp table but the interface shows down (show interface gi1/21 for example). I am running 15.1. My understanding is that since the ports are directly connected to the router, the ports should be detected as down and any association of the IP for the down port should removed. This should trigger the static route to update the static route for the end destination to use the second path and traffic should continue.

May 31, 2012 i am not sure if this is something with my DHCP setup or not, but it certainly seems to be the culprit. I am running a 3560G and using it as DHCP and to do V LAN routing (Geiger protocol). I have 10 pools configured with a few static addresses per pool. Now to get down to the problem. I have a computer (and this problem seems to be a gremlin as it changes what computer is affected quite often) that will connect, get its IP, immediately disconnect, then send out a DHCP req again. The computer has a static assignment in the pool, and for the brief second that it connects, it gets the right address. If i move the computer to another v lan, all works right. If i delete the static entry it will get an address in the right v lan no problem. The command i have been using to add static entries is:
address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx client-id 01xx.xxxx.xxxx.xx
That seems to have been working on all my static routes except for a bank of computers in vlan3. I have went as far as to delete the pool and recreate it, heck i even recreated the v lan and i am still having issues. Below are some snippets of the running config for review.
The DHCP Pool for the affected LAN:
