Cisco Switching/Routing :: WS-C3560-48PS SFPs Compatible With 2960-S Switches
Jan 3, 2013
I need to replace an older 3560 with a new 2960-S and am wondering if the SX SFPs I already have will be compatible with the 2960-S. [code] I cannot find any way to get the part numbers of the SFPs.

We have a Cisco switch in each office and every now and then the port that has the D-Link Wireless AP (DAP-1522) connected to it goes to err-disable state. Actually sometimes even a regular port that has a cisco phone connected may also go to err-disable state (less often). So I have to telnet into the switch and issue shut and no shut command on that interface to get it back to life, then it works for a few days or weeks until it happens again. Any suitable configuraiton for that interface, that would prevent that from happening or a workaround ?
Here's the info:
Model: cisco WS-C3560-24PS and cisco WS-C3560-48PS
Image:c3560-ipbase-mz.122-35.SE5.bin
This is the log from one switch:
31w5d: %PM-4-ERR_DISABLE: psecure-violation error detected on Fa0/2, putting Fa0/2 in err-disable state
31w5d: %PORT_SECURITY-2-PSECURE_VIOLATION: Security violation occurred, caused by MAC address 74e2.f592.f7f2 on port FastEthernet0/2.
31w5d: %LINEPROTO-5-UPDOWN: Line protocol on Interface FastEthernet0/2, changed state to down
And from another, which is almost the same:
5d10h: %PM-4-ERR_DISABLE: psecure-violation error detected on Fa0/3, putting Fa0/3 in err-disable state
5d10h: %PORT_SECURITY-2-PSECURE_VIOLATION: Security violation occurred, caused by MAC address d8a2.5e31.2cf6 on port FastEthernet0/3.
5d10h: %LINEPROTO-5-UPDOWN: Line protocol on Interface FastEthernet0/3, changed state to down
5d10h: %LINK-3-UPDOWN: Interface FastEthernet0/3, changed state to down
Here's the configuration of fe interfaces (they are all alike):
interface FastEthernet0/2
description Voice & Data Combo Port
switchport access vlan 11
switchport mode access
switchport voice vlan 15

I have a c3560 that on Port 1 I can not get any device to talk to the DHCP server.Previously there was a client connected to this port however over the weekend he stated he lost connectivity.
In my troubleshooting I have connected that client to another port and now he is good to go...I connected my laptop and tried to connect to the network however I could not.I checked the logs and did not see anything that lead me to think it was having problems.
Is there another way to shut this down and hopefully start it back up without having to restart the entire switch?

I've been asked whether we can use HP-branded 10G SFP+s (P/N 455885-001) in Nexus 2Ks to provide 10G connections to HP C-Class enclosures. We've used HP-branded twinax, and Cisco-branded SFP+s and twinax, but we have a raft of HP 10G SFP+s sat in a store room gathering dust and now we want to save some money by not having to buy the Cisco parts to match.

I had a strange issue yesterday when onsite installing a new access switch.Port capacity full on a two switch stack of 3750 x48 PS switches (WS-C3750- 48PS-E)- New 2960 x48 PS - WS-C2960S-48FPS-L racked, with the plan of using it just as an edge switch via SFP Stacking cable.Setup the two connecting ports with simple initial config: - switchport mode trunk- no encapsulation option on the 2960, default dot1q- dot1q set on 3750 port- no shut on both sides.Connected the SFP Stacking cable but it didnt work:- %PHY-4-SFP_NOT_SUPPORTED: The SFP in Gi1/0/1 is not supported
This is ok as I had a backup:- Next step tried using 2 x Short Haul SFP SX GBIC's with LC - LC OFNP 50/125 fibre patch lead - no joy- Extra backup of 2 x Long Haul SFP LX GBIC's with the same fibre patch - no joy- Checked the fibre and it was not a cross over so transmit and receive going down the same side, switchedand still would not come up.- Used Fibre as a straight through and still the same.In all cases there was no indication of any life in the connection. It is pointing to a faulty fibre patch lead but I know it has worked in the past. Could it be something to do with the config or device incompatibility? Or any setting I need to activate?

I have production stack in the following config:
Switch Ports Model SW Version SW Image
------ ----- ----- ---------- ----------
* 1 52 WS-C3750-48P 12.2(25)SEE4 C3750-IPSERVICESK9-M
2 52 WS-C3750-48P 12.2(25)SEE4 C3750-IPSERVICESK9-M
I want to add 3-rd switch to it:
Switch: WS-C3750G-48PS 12.2(25)SEE3 C3750-IPSERVICESK9-M
Will this configuration work? My main concern is IOS difference?

In my office we bought 7 cisco 3750X - 48PS switches. We configured Data Stacking between those switches. We also want to configure Power Stacking between those 7 devices.
I found in the Data Sheet that we can only configure 4 devices in power stacking at a time. If it is like that how to configure the rest of 3 devices. Need configuring power stacking between those devices in a better way..
power stack cable part no we have is

At a college I'm trying to setup a Cisco 2960 to be used on a VLAN 248 tagged on the uplink port that uses Spanning Tree/. Here is the following from the Cisco:
show interfaces trunk
Port Mode Encapsulation Status Native v lan
Gi0/1 on 802.1q trunking 1
Port V lans allowed on trunk
Gi0/1 248
[code]...
On the Alcatel OS6850-48L the following is setup: bridge 1x1 248 priority 3287 Vlan 248 802.1q 5/8 "cisco"
I cannot make a change on the Alcatel, I can only administer the Cisco. I was able to get things working fine (as a test) using a Net gear or HP switch instead of the Cisco. However we have a Cisco switches and would not like to have to buy HPs. Is there a compatible spanning tree protocol to use on the Cisco with the way things are configured on the Alcatel. I need to stick to standard RSTP (802.1w) ieee standards and not something Cisco proprietary.

I am in the process of upgrading our stack of 4 switches consist of WS-C3750G-48PS. Upon reading release notes found that there are two versions of release notes 1 day apart, the one 02 Sep 2012 saying that WS-C3750-48PS is not supported in this version. Then in release next day 03 Sep 2012 that note has been removed. Which one is correct. Is it supported with my model of switch or not.also unable to update boot path in the stack switches, "switch all" is not supported in the current IOS. Master switch has new boot path but unable to change in slaves.

My inherited network has a Cisco Catalyst 4506 with a WS-X4124FX–MT fiber card that connects to twelve Cisco 2950 switches over 62.5 micron multimode fiber at 100 Mbps. I do not know my run lengths (or even where the conduits run), but the furthest switches are well over a thousand feet from the server room. Any appropriate test equipment to provide this information soon.
We are looking at upgrading the main switch to a Catalyst WS-C4507+E with two WS-X4712-SFP+E cards and the closets to Cisco 2960S-48TD-L switches. Assuming this is a reasonable move, my question is about choosing the appropriate SFP’s for our current and future needs.
I am aware that 62.5 micron multimode fiber is the least favorable for extended lengths, but I will not be in a position to replace it for at least a year. If I purchase 10 Gbps modules, like the SFP-10G-SR or SFP-10G-LRM, can they “throttle down”, either automatically or by setting a parameter, to communicate at slower speeds over distances that exceed their 10 Gbps maximum link lengths on multimode fiber?

We have bought four Cisco 3750X-24 Switches with IP Base license for 2 offices (2 switches at each office). The offices are connected with 1 fiber pair and 2 CWDM units. We have 6 CWDM SFP (2x 1470nm, 2x 1490nm and 2x 1510nm). All the switches are up and running with 1 problem: the SFP's in the SFP+ position didn't work.
Only the gigabit port 1/1/1 and 1/1/3 are connected. Gigabit 1/1/2 stay disconnected. I already did some test with other SFP's and labels. Do I need to disable the ten gig ports in the configuration?

I am using a 3750 as a default gateway for multiple Vlans on a few 2960 switches. The trunk lines are configured and working and I have assigned ip addresses to each of the Vlan interfaces on the 3750. My issue is that I can only ping the ip address on the Vlan interface of the 3750 if I have a working computer plugged directly into the Vlan on the 3750. I only have 3 vlans on the 3750 that have hosts directly connected (vlans 2, 10 and 40) the other vlans ( 20 and 70) don't have any clients plugged into them on the 3750 but the hosts reside on 2 different 2960s that connect via trunk ports. How do I keep the vlan interface on the 3750 switch pingable when I don't have hosts directly connected in that vlan on the 3750? (yes, I have enabled ip routing on the 3750)

We have 3 layer LAN architecture, layer 1 of 6500(IP routing), layer 2 of 4500(L2 switch only), layer 3 of 2960(L2 Switch)In a Single (2960 and 4500) Switch Port Avaya IP phone and PC are connected. Now, the requirement is that, Qos need to be configured for Voice traffic and Data traffic should be in default class of service. We plan to use COS value in Switch 4500 and 2960. We made a sample configuration as below
### For 4500 Switch
class-map match-all VOIP-Access-2MB
match cos 3 5
class-map match-all VOIP-Uplink-20MB
match cos 3 5
[code].....
check these configurations are correct as per standard and if there is any other method of configuration? What need to be configured in L3 Switch(6500)??In 2960, it doesn't support ingress QoS, what impact it will make when compare to 4500? do users experiance any difference?

To do that I would like to be able to sniff the traffic traversing our 7k. However, as the 7k doesn't support remote span we have to span locally. This means that I have to connect a pc to the Nexus and sent the span output to that port. However, our 7K is only equipped with N7K-M108X2-12L modules, which contains X2 10G ports. I found the CVR-X2-SFP10G X2 to SFP+ convertor module, but I wonder whether this supports a 1G copper SFP. If it doesn't it would be wasteful to buy one. On the page concerning the module I only found 10G fiber sfp's which are supported.

Company I work for just moved into a new location. We have two data closets which are patched as independent entities, with no Ethernet tie connection. These closets are roughly 100 feet apart.
There is a fiber connection that runs between both closets, that the previous tenant used to connect the switches. I have placed a Cisco 2960 switch in each location, and added one mini SFP gbic's to each switch. After attaching both sides, neither light up. I do a sh inter gig1/0/49 on each and shows 'down down' (not admin down).
What is the trick on getting these to communciate, do I need to configure these ports, and are they supposed to light up?
What I am trying to accomplish is to get the one closet that is completely cut off, communicating by logically stacking, or 'daisy chaining' via fiber.
I turned off the lights and popped the fiber out, and I do see a faint red light (I did not look straight into it), so I think the fiber is active.

these switches support the Cisco pre-standard PoE required by the 7940 and 7960 IP phones.

I need to connect 4 Floor Building with 4 Cisco 2960 - 48 ports switch each other and it needs to be through a fiber. So all PCs connected to each switch would reach the LAN/WAN from the other switch. (attached is the image here with)
I see that the 2960 has 2 SFP ports each port of each switch should connect each other or how?
My simple question is:
1. What cable / patch code I have to use = Single-mode or Multimode? ( distance for each switch will not more then 25 mts)
2. Do I have to use SFP or SFP+ module?
3. What kind of SFP/SFP+ module I have to use = Single-mode or Multimode?
4. What kind of connector should patch code have = LC / SC or ?
5. How to connect each switch with redundancy like ...each switch should be interconnected with each other or I have to choose Cisco 3750G which has more then 2 SFP ports (option#1 & opetion#2 = attached here with) =
Best practice for connecting cisco switches over fiber.

We are planning to make a single switch as a NTP servers and others are clients to synchronise the correct time even after a reboot of the access switches.

interface FastEthernet0/1
channel-group 1 mode on
!
interface FastEthernet0/2
channel-group 1 mode on
I thought the port-channel 1 would get automatically created but it didn't, should it? And under the port-channel interface should I set this as a trunk or do I do this on the 2 fa interfaces on each switch?
