Cisco Switching / Routing :: C3560 - 48PS Port / Get Any Device To Talk To DHCP Server?
Sep 11, 2011
I have a c3560 that on Port 1 I can not get any device to talk to the DHCP server.Previously there was a client connected to this port however over the weekend he stated he lost connectivity.
In my troubleshooting I have connected that client to another port and now he is good to go...I connected my laptop and tried to connect to the network however I could not.I checked the logs and did not see anything that lead me to think it was having problems.
Is there another way to shut this down and hopefully start it back up without having to restart the entire switch?
We have a Cisco switch in each office and every now and then the port that has the D-Link Wireless AP (DAP-1522) connected to it goes to err-disable state. Actually sometimes even a regular port that has a cisco phone connected may also go to err-disable state (less often). So I have to telnet into the switch and issue shut and no shut command on that interface to get it back to life, then it works for a few days or weeks until it happens again. Any suitable configuraiton for that interface, that would prevent that from happening or a workaround ?
Here's the info:
Model: cisco WS-C3560-24PS and cisco WS-C3560-48PS Image:c3560-ipbase-mz.122-35.SE5.bin
This is the log from one switch:
31w5d: %PM-4-ERR_DISABLE: psecure-violation error detected on Fa0/2, putting Fa0/2 in err-disable state 31w5d: %PORT_SECURITY-2-PSECURE_VIOLATION: Security violation occurred, caused by MAC address 74e2.f592.f7f2 on port FastEthernet0/2. 31w5d: %LINEPROTO-5-UPDOWN: Line protocol on Interface FastEthernet0/2, changed state to down
And from another, which is almost the same:
5d10h: %PM-4-ERR_DISABLE: psecure-violation error detected on Fa0/3, putting Fa0/3 in err-disable state 5d10h: %PORT_SECURITY-2-PSECURE_VIOLATION: Security violation occurred, caused by MAC address d8a2.5e31.2cf6 on port FastEthernet0/3. 5d10h: %LINEPROTO-5-UPDOWN: Line protocol on Interface FastEthernet0/3, changed state to down 5d10h: %LINK-3-UPDOWN: Interface FastEthernet0/3, changed state to down
Here's the configuration of fe interfaces (they are all alike):
interface FastEthernet0/2 description Voice & Data Combo Port switchport access vlan 11 switchport mode access switchport voice vlan 15
I need to replace an older 3560 with a new 2960-S and am wondering if the SX SFPs I already have will be compatible with the 2960-S. [code] I cannot find any way to get the part numbers of the SFPs.
We have two switches of the same model (WS-C3560-48PS-S) that are not providing PoE. I'm trying to remotely determine what the cause of the issue is.
Here is some output.

I have configured DHCP snooping on a WS-3560G-48PS running IOS 12.2(58)SE2 ipservicesk9 variant. When I enable DHCP snooping clients don't get IP addresses, when DHCP snooping is disabled, everything works fine.I have set up a SPAN port and run a capture (attached) on the traffic. Wireshark notes the Seconds elapsed field appeared to be encoded in little-endian but only on some packets. Apart from that, I can see nothing wrong with the DHCP Offer responses from my DHCP server.Attachment config.txt contains the interesting parts of the configuration. Please note g0/32 has been set to ARP inspection trust as without working DHCP snooping it would require a static bind.Is there any way of figuring out which option can't be parsed? Is there a way to force forwarding of unparsable DHCP packets while still running DHCP snooping?
On a 4500 switch port , defined as access vlan 10, if the user connects his own dhcp server ( instead of the normal pc that should be connected ), will it cause issues with my existing network. the existing network is all static ip. In above case, will the dhcp server start looking out and assign dhcp ip's , if a user unknowingly removes his static ip and changes to obtain ip via dhcp option on the lan properties.

I need to configure a Cisco 2960 switch as a DHCP server. The current IP address will be on a different seed than the DHCP addresses. i.e.
Switch IP = 10.1.2.3, GW = 10.1.2.1, Subnet = 255.255.255.0 DHCP addresses would be 192.168.1.1 - 200, GW=???? (10.1.2.3?) and subnet would be 255.255.255.0
3750 can not support multiple subnets in it's DHCP server pool config.
Is this an issue that can be fixed with a different iOS or is there a different Cisco switch that I can replace the 3750 with that will handle multiple subnets within an individual pool?
I have purchased these two switches from ebay as a test lab, I plan to connect them up via a gigastack modulecable and enable ip routing on the c3550 and vlans to talk to each other.
I'm very much a procurve person and really need to get into the cisco switching.I will want to trunklacp between the switches - whats the process is setting that up on cisco switches?
I am in the process of upgrading our stack of 4 switches consist of WS-C3750G-48PS. Upon reading release notes found that there are two versions of release notes 1 day apart, the one 02 Sep 2012 saying that WS-C3750-48PS is not supported in this version. Then in release next day 03 Sep 2012 that note has been removed. Which one is correct. Is it supported with my model of switch or not. Also unable to update boot path in the stack switches, "switch all" is not supported in the current IOS. Any other way to update it. Master switch has new boot path but unable to change in slaves.
We recently connected a RPS 2300 to our switch WS-C3750G-48PS-E with IOS c3750-ipservicesk9-mz.122-53.SE2.bin.However i do not see any RPS details in the"show env" output.I believe i should get the RPS Name and its Serial and the port number in the output, but i am not finding it in the output. I did reload the switch but still couldnot get this udpated.
I'm looking to configure a syslog server for all of my cisco device logging. I've had a look at CNA and can't find any options to define a syslog server for my switches.
What's the best way to define a syslog server and the severity of the notifications? Also, i'm looking to clear all previous Syste mmessages fon my devices?
I've a Cisco 1941W router which is DHCP server for data-VLANs and uses ip-helper for voice-VLANs. [code] I don't know why I can't have IP from wireless voice VLAN whereas it is OK and wired voice VLAN and conf is the same!
I have customer who has as Core Switch one Cisco Catalyst 3750 with the IOS c3750-ipbase-mz.122-35.SE5.I know that this image support DHCP Server configuration, but I like to implementate new vlans (approx 15) and I want to know if this switch support 15 DHCP Servers.
I used to use a CentOS self-made server for intranet for my little office, but I bouth few days ago a Cisco 861 router to replace the linux box.
1. I have 2 public IP classes from my ISP. 1 class is limitted to 80mbit upload, the other to 30mbit upload. So I need some sort of DNAT to be able to know exactly which intranet computer uses big internet and which one limitted internet. 2. I need DHCP server and with static IP addresses (one computer must always have the same IP address, etc).. i have my needs for this. 3. Also I need external access to some servers inside (web, ftp, etc) [code]
So far so good, all looks simple and I can achieve this in 2 hours on a centos linux box (correct routes, ip forwarding enabled and few iptables rules for NAT/SNAT/DNAT).
But on this brand new Centos router well, i'm not even successful in pinging the outside world, nor the inside world I'm tired of reading the forums, the documentation..i want (at first) a simple scenario: vlan+dhcp, fa4 with 1 public ip address and ACCESS to the real world. I wasn't able to achieve not even that much. [code]
i'm interested if it's possible to set the NTP server via DHCP on an 2901 Router with 15.2(2) image.
i configured the interface gigabit 0/0 as dhcp client. The DHCP Server sends to me DNS, Default GW and NTP. All is working fine, but the NTP will not be configured. i tried to add an DHCP option request, but there is no NTP (42) value. [code]
is there any way to add the value NTP (42) for the DHCP request or isnt it possible?
I have trouble with a Cisco 892 Router from my Internet service provider.
Last week we switched from a virtual Router to a hardware Router. But after plugging it in our LAN Switch, the Windows DHCP Server stopped leasing IP's. I got many BAD_ADDRESS with MAC like e1:80:10:ac, e2:80:10:ac, e3:80:10:ac, e4:80:10:ac, e5:80:10:ac, ea:80:10:ac, eb:80:10:ac, ec:80:10:ac and so on.
I do not have access to the Router config, so I can not dump the config to you. We have a flat LAN, single SUB-Net(172.16.0.0/16) and no VLAN, no Spanning Tree. A Keep it Simple, Stupid(KISS) System.
A tech guy from service provider, is telling us, the error is not there fault and my switch is not correctly configured. But this is ********. For years we had a another Cisco Router from the precursor ISP and for 2 years the virtual Router from our current ISP. No trouble with my DHCP. But after plugging the new Router in, my DHCP stopped working. On the 892 is no running DHCP, but something interferences with my Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 DHCP Server.
I was assigned a task to configure an SG300-28P to have 3 different vlans. Now on VLAN1 their will be only one device configured with static IP 192.168.0.230,On the other 2 VLANS there will be a separate router connected on each one of them and will also act as a DHCP server.
I want to upgrade the IOS version of 3750 48PS switches. these stacks are located on different building some of the them having 2 members and some have 3 members in a stack.step by step to upgrade the IOS of these switches.
I recently removed a catalyst 2950 switch code version: c2950-i6q4l2-mz.121-13.EA1 ?I had an ASA 5505 connected as a switchport access to the 2950 on port 44. We will call the VLAN that the ASA sits on: VLAN 404. The 2950 had a trunk to our catalyst 6509 distribution switch carrying that VLAN 404. We also have a another VLAN for computers that sits on: VLAN 129, this is a standard DHCP vlan and it accounted for the rest of the switchports. The 2950 also has this trunked to our 6509 distribution switch.
Everything was working fine with that setup. After replacing the 2950 with a 3560 we started running into problems. The 3560 was configured the same exact way as the 2950. What was happening is that computers that sat on VLAN 129 started experiencing packet loss and were unable to work. It's as though the ASA was taking over the switch.
Is there a protocol that is enabled by defult on the 3560 that would do this?
Whenever I add devices in CiscoWorks and do not manually specify the device type. CiscoWorks find itself wrong device types for it, For example I have found that mostly it classify WS-C3750-48PS-S as below device types; [code]
Also found that WS-C3560-24PS-S discovered as 7600 series routers.
I want to implement port-based and MAC-based in these two switches: 2960 & 3560 (both of them have this IOS version: 12.2(55)SE1). And I haven't found a way to implement both of them at the same time. This is what I got:
ip dhcp use subscriber-id client-id ip dhcp subscriber-id interface-name ip dhcp excluded-address 192.168.0.0 192.168.0.2 ip dhcp excluded-address 192.168.0.251 192.168.0.255
[code]....
With this configuration I can use port-based, but not MAC based. If I remove the first two lines and change the last line for this one:
address 192.168.0.7 client-id 0112.ae1d.af58.60
Then, the computer with that MAC address got the correct IP, but then the port-based doesn't work. Also, I got this line in the interface what I want to use MAC-based:
I am upgrading from 3750-E IOS 12.2 to 3750-X IOS 15.0
I have a dhcp pool set up to give out an ip address based on the Physical port of the switch. I also have it configured to give out "reserved only" addresses.
The configuration works when i plug a dhcp device in the 3750E. (IOS12.2) The configuration does not work when i use the same config on 3750X (IOS15)
When i debug dhcp, i see the DHCP discover message come in, but no offers or anykind of response from the 3750X.
If i remove the "reserved only" line the switch gives out IPs, but of ocurse not the ones i want. I did that to prove both the client and the switch can give out an IP.
So i have a feeling the subscriber-id client-id interface name mapping is not right, or not created.
Here is a snippet of config.
! no ip dhcp use vrf connected ip dhcp use subscriber-id client-id ip dhcp subscriber-id interface-name
