Cisco Switching/Routing :: Multicast Over IRB Interfaces / It Fails On 2800 And 1941 G2
Sep 27, 2012
Looking for multicast over IRB interfaces. My full config below, works as expected on a Cisco 1760 router (IOS 12-4) but fails strangely on our Cisco 2800 (IOS 15-1) and Cisco 1941 G2 routers.
I use Windows 7 Enterprise and VLC 2.0.0 Two Flower as the multicast video receiver. On the 1760 router, I open VLC, request the video (rtp://@239.255.0.1:5004) and it plays flawlessly.
We have to upgrade the older outdated unsupported Cisco 1760 routers. We replace the Cisco 1760 router with a Cisco 1941 router. Configuration differs ONLY in the interface speeds; F0/0 to G0/0 and that is just bout it. Using the same Windows 7 Enterprise PC, I open VLC again and request the video -same as before; No video and no voice. We swap the 1941 out and put in the 1760 again, multicast works flawlessly. If we put the 1941 router back in, multicast fails again. We put the Cisco 2800 series router in and it also fails the same as the 1941 router.
Troubleshooting, I open VLC and request the same multicast video. On the same PC, I open Wireshark and start capturing packets, - and instantly the VLC video starts playing. I close Wireshark and the video stops. I open Wireshark and start capturing packets again and the VLC video starts playing again.
Wireshark shows the video packets are being received from the source when VLC is requesting the video. If I close VLC while Wireshark is capturing packets, Wireshark shows the video stream stops.

I remember I did that one time on 2800 router with Gi0/0 and Gi0/1 to connect another port channel in 3560G switch. I have no way to try it in ISR G2 router like 2900 or 3900 now. I know the the ethernet switch module must support it. I wonder if the integrated interfaces support it or not.
I am trying to add WCCP to be configured for websense. My first option seems to be either purchase an IPServices license for the stack of 3750E switches, but i am thinking this will require us to license all three switches in the stack. The second option i am looking at is to do the WCCP configuration on the 2800 router we have on the edge. The problem is both Gig ports are in use, one going to the firewall and the second going to the ISP. My first question would be, which option is better in terms of manging as well as cost of implementing it.The second question is, if WCCP on the router is a better option, what is the add on module i should be looking to get to add the additional ports to hook up the Websense cache.
I have two VLANs - 10 and 20. 2 DHCP pools are configured on 2 1841's interfaces - 192.168.1.0 /25 and 192.168.1.128/26 with default router sitting on 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.129 respectively. No issues with obtaining IP address from any of those pools.Laptop connects to L3 3550 switch (switchport access vlan 10), which, in turn, connects to 1841 router through trunk (with VLANs 10 and 20 allowed).3550 is connected to 2960 through trunk with VLANs 10 and 20 allowed.Wireless router is connected to 2960.I can successfully ping my wireless router and outside world from 1841 from fa0/1 interface, but not from fa0/1.10 or fa0/1.20 sub-interfaces - all packets got dropped. My laptop can obtain IP from both pools (depending on port I connect it to), but can't ping my wireless router and anything beyond it.
I'm trying to get two Cisco 1941 routers with HWIC-1T and HWIC-3G-HSPA interfaces to use the 3G interfaces if the frame is down (as it is right now).In the lab, I was not able to get these to use the 3G interfaces as a backup (i.e. backup interface cell 0/1/0) and I've not been able to workout the correct incantation for static routing either.

I am encountering an issue with IPv6 trace route both from within LAN as well as on the Cisco router is unable to function beyond the WAN interface of my Cisco 1941 router with IOS v15.x.
Below is the IPv6 Access List: [code] sequence 410 remark Allow Specific Inbound ICMP Types permit icmp any 2001:D98:XXXX::/64 1 3 permit icmp any 2001:D98:XXXX::/64 packet-too-big
I am trying to create a Script to reload my cisco 1941 router when a ping test has failed.I am using IP SLA to ping and tracking snmp oid. What I want to do is to stop the router from reloading after 4 times if the ping test is still failing . But when the ping are successful again to restart the applet. I have the reload configured but cannot figure out how to do the rest. [code]
I try to pass multicast traffic between two vrf on the same 3750 switch. I have IP services IOS and sdm template routing.
here is my config:
ip routing ! ip vrf vpn2 rd 1:1 mdt default 232.1.1.1 route-target export 1:1 route-target import 1:1
[code]....
Now I'm stuck - I don't know what to do to pass multicast traffic. Do I have any chance to run this config on 3750 chassis?Perhaps "Configuring Multicast VPN Extranet Support" document will be useful, but it concerns Catalyst 6500? [URL]
The layer 2 switches are connected to layer 3 Switch via trunks, and routing between layer 2 switch ports with configured SVI's on 3550. All working fine. Now I'm trying to configure routing between 2800 and 3550, I tried connecting both Straight Throught and Crossover cables to the 2800 Fa0/0 and Fa0/1 ports as well as the switchports on 3550
No switchport commands are configured however, the lights do not go on for both straight through or crossover cables. I tried connecting 1750 routers but same result. My goal is to have all the VLANS routed to the internet with configuring NAT translation the router.
I start configuring Cisco 2821 router for multicast . First short description and attached sheme explanation. Let we say I have small network with 100 users. One router and Cisco switch 3560. Two VLAN’s, one for data another for multicast. Data from internet works fine but now I want to connect multicast servers (or source of more multicast streams) from another subnet. Router have three interfaces.I expect there should be no problems with multicast configuration, but unfortunately it is not like I expect. What I did ?
First step: enable multicast routing
Second step: on both interfaces (Fe 0/1 and Fe 0/2) - ip pim sparse-mode
Third step: configure switch that users are connected to access port in VLAN 222 (temporary to see if multicast work)
When I start VLC on computer nothing happend. If I try to connect computer on same subnet where is source of multicast streams it works fine. What I am doing wrong ? Is there anything about routing ? All subnets are directly connected. RP is not needed if I have one router or ?
I have a problem on my catalyst 6509 on which I would like to do the following things :
I have some Vlans in which multicast is enabled. In tose Vlan theres is a router which is default router for equipements.
I had enabled multicast routing because some Vlan needs to exchange multicast informations, but I wolud like to make difference between Multicast traffic. For example I have 5 vlans:
Vlan 1 and 2 need to exchange Multicast informations but the don't need multicast information from Vlan 3 and 4 Vlan 3 and 5 need to exchange Multicast informations but the don't need multicast information from Vlan 1 and 2 Vlan 5 is independant Vlan but doesn't need to have multicast information from all others vlan.
Last problem, equipement on differents vlan can use the same Mulkticast group address. In this case, Multicast routing is not working between Vlan 1 to Vlan 2 and Vlan 3 to Vlan 4.
I am configuring multicast in a environment where I have a 4506 at each site (4 total) and a 6506 as the core. Each 4506 is connected via layer 3 to the 6506. I have a mix of 3560s, 3548s, and 2960s connected to the 4506s and the 6506 via layer 2 trunk
I have multiple multicast sources and hosts communicating at a time (multiple cameras sending video / multiple computers receiving video). So this is not a scenario where there is 1 sender and many receivers. This would be many senders (~50) and some receivers (~10)
I configured ip multicast-routing on each of the 4506s and on the 6506. IGMP snooping is on by default on the 3560 and 2960 switches. CGMP is on by default on the 3548 switches.
I set up PIM sparse-dense mode and IGMP version 3 on each of the layer 3 interfaces for the 4506s and 6506 where they connect and on each VLAN that is sending or receiving multicast. Multicast is working throughout the network, however I am looking to verify the configuration as I scale this out to more clients on the network.
#1 - Is it correct to us sparse-dense mode in this configuration?
#2 - Do I need to configure a rendezvous points using AUTO-RP? (ip pim send-rp-announce INTERFACE scope TTL). Not sure here if I need to designate this and what to choose. Right now I do not have this and it is working, but documentation seems to infer that I need to designate this.
#3 - Is there any other configuration settings I should be considering? I hard to find real world configurations of multicast as examples or people that know multicast routing well.
I would like test multicast routing with cisco1801.i create 2 Vlan. Vlan 200 (192.168.200.x) affect Fastethernet 1, Vlan 130 (192.168.130.x) Fastethernet 5.
Version IOS is : adipservice-k9 124-9.t1
ip multicast-routing
#int Vlan 130 ip address 192.168.130.254 255.255.255.0 Ip pim dense-mode #int Vlan 200 Ip address 192.168.200.254 255.255.255.0 Ip pim dense-mode
I used VLC for my test. When i connect source (224.10.10.10) and recever ( Udp://@224.10.10.10:1234), that's ok!But, source is on the Vlan 200 and reicever on the Vlan 130, is not good!I test with "sparse-mode", i have same problem.
I’ve been trying a few days now to implement multicast routing on my home network in order to make airplay work between subnets. Specifically between an iphone and a hifi separated by different vlans. Failed, as I have no experience in multicast routing. we have a clean configuration and simple network which consists of two SVIs
I've problem with IP SLA probes between two different routers.2900 (c2900-universalk9_npe-mz.SPA.151-4.M4.bin) here is set "ip sla responder" only and 2800 (c2800nm-advipservicesk9-mz.124-24.T2.bin) here is set two type of tests "udp-jitter" and "icmp-jitter" - temporary, used to check for availability of 2900 router. As a result, I've what udp-jitter doesn't work at the same time icmp-jitter test is OK.Here are the settings of IP SLA tests

Is there any official Cisco reference to describe what is considered to be the highest acceptable production CPU load on 2800 routers? I found the document "Integrated Services Routers G2 - Performance Overview" that states at page 5,Most service providers set their CPU alarms to 60 or 65 percent. Many enterprise customers are comfortable running production networks with CPU around 70 or 75 percent.
I have a router with two interfaces what i need to filter the HTTP traffic from one interface and the rest of the traffic through the other on my cisco router 2800.
I have a problem to create a VLAN with a Cisco 2801.,I need to have base ports FastEthernet 0 / 0 and FastEthernet 0 / 1, in the same VLAN. Basically I'm trying to switch access redundacion, now I have redundant switches in which I have the servers, but if one of these switches fails, and, coincidentally is where I have connected the router, the server runs out of internet connection.,I idea is to connect the FastEthernet 0 / 0 to a switch, and FastEthernet 0 / 1, to the other switch, but I managed to have these two ports in the same vlan, in order to have a unique IP for both FastEthernet ports,As I can do this?. do is a lot of documents using the switchport command, but this command is not available in my router, I tried different IOS, and nothing.,currently I have the following IOS: c2801-adventerprisek9-mz.124-24.T6.bin
I have a 2800 router and tried so many ways to block the unwanted sites on my office network.Like access list ip based, null0 routing and policy map. Faced issues with below config
1. Creating Access-list. very difficulty to block the sites with https those sites will be opend, and we cant block all the IPs
2. Creating null0 routing. it also a bit deficult the block maximum sites because we can't fiend all IPs for those sites
3. Policy map.. with policy map we can only 1site we can block, but not more than one..
I heard that port based routing or port based access-list are the best ways to stop the websites in my local network..for this one i need to map the site to unsued ports then i need to null rouging or need to create the access-list.
I have a cisco 2800 router.. (flash:/c2800nm-advsecurityk9-mz.151-4.M4.bin, Version 12.4(13r)T11) configured DHCP, DNS, NATING and Bandwidth restriction...And to stop some social network [URL] i configured ip route 66.220.144.0 255.255.240.0 Null0 (rang of facebook address) But still i am able to open facebook.com in my network...

I'm trying to turn off SSH version 1 & 2 to pass PCI compliance. Problem is, I cannot touch the VPN link between the two offices. I'm afraid the PKI certificate used for the VPN will be deleted if i zeroize the RSA key which seems to be the only way to stop the router responding on port 22.
Here is the stuff from the running config related to the crypto map: crypto isakmp policy 1 encr 3des authentication pre-share group 2 [ code].....
I'm only CCNA so I'm not even sure if the certificate or RSA key is being used for the VPN link, but I can't tell from the running config that zeroizing it would be a good idea and not break the VPN. I'm open to other ways of disabling SSH, as we are able to just connect using a console cable. But it looks like denying port 22 with an access-list doesn't even stop the router from responding to the port.
I have an 861 that we are using for a test network and need to add static igmp addresses for multicast. We are using the router as a router on a stick with subinterfaces on the WAN link. I've looked everywhere to see how to add the static igmp addresses.

I have a subnet with a GPS clock on it that connects into a Cisco 3750. The 3750 has another subnet hanging off of it that connects into a firewall then to a server. I need the server to get time from the GPS clock. Any way to pass the NTP through the 3750? The 3750 has the 3750-IPBase code running on it so the multicast support is limited. I am under regulatory restrictions that only allow traffic to flow from the higher security level (were the time server is) to lower security level (were the server is). This prevents me from having the server go to the clock for updates.
I have this Cisco 1941 router with two Ethernet ports g0/0 and g0/1. The g0/0 is connected to office LAN with internet access. As my office LAN is DHCP, it will assigned a IP address for g0/0 since this g0/0 is configured as "ip address dhcp". Now my question is that i have a group of 5 pcs, namely PC1, PC2, PC3, PC4 and PC5 that is connected to the switch and one of the ports of this switch is connected to g0/1 of Cisco 1941. Is it possible that let say PC2 and PC3 (both DHCP enabled) could access the internet access from g0/0 and at the same time, the office LAN assigned IP address for PC2 and PC3 automatically?
Office Lan with internet access (DHCP) (Default gateway 10.0.0.1) | | g0/0 (DHCP enable) (DHCP assigned IP address 10.0.0.138) Cisco router 1941 g0/1 | | HP Switch | PC1 PC2 PC3 PC4 PC5
Is this operation possible? if possible, how to configure inside the router 1941 to achieve this objective?
I have just set up my Cisco 1941 router to my cable internet connection. I have access to everything, but I cant login successfully into Cisco CP.
I set up a new user with level 15 privileges and a secret password. I go to login via webbrowser and I put in my credentials, but I get rejected. I have tested the username and password via the CLI, and it works fine, I just cant seam to login to Cisco CP.
