Can The Wireless Range Of An ADSL Router Be Extended?
Apr 7, 2011I have a BT broadband connection with one of their BT Home Hub 2 routers. Within the house the wireless signal is fine, however I have an outside office in the garden which is just beyond the normal range of the wireless signal. I tested this by connecting using my DELL XPS Win7 laptop and walking from the house to the office and it lost the signal about 10 feet short!
Is there any way to extend the range of the wireless signal? I cannot use homeplugs as the office is on a different fuse box from the house.
The BT Home Hub 2 is an ADSL router using n technology.
I do have a spare Netgear N150 ADSL2+ wireless router, is there any way of using it to boost the range of the signal?

But then we have a new one for a new ActiveDirectory solution, and on those networks we have implemented IPv6.
How is Static MAC address entries and MS NLB solved in IPv6 (i.e arp ip.ip.ip.ip mac.mac.mac ARPA gi1/1). I can't seem to find much examples or documentation on this? Is it replaced with another function?The reason I ask is twofold.

2. The NLB cluster seem to drop IPv6 traffic at even intervals, witch seems to correspond with NLB transition.

My own WiFi network is fine, but while I am connected to any public hotspot I get the 'no internet access' message on the wifi symbol.While connected to my own network, ipconfig/all shows that I have an Autoconfiguration IPv4 address in the (correct) 192 range - but when connected to a hotspot, the address is in the 169 range, or occasionally (as in the instance below) in the 10 range. Aug 3, 2012I have Internet connection in Ethernet Medium connected to a L2 Switch (Cisco 2960). I have 2 Routers (Cisco 2900). I have a webserver to be accessed from Internet. The physical IP address of the server is Private range.
I have configured Stateful NAT as below
157.220.100.61 is Static NAT to 10.1.1.3 using redundancy
Though HSRP is working good, when RTR-1 is down, I am not able to reach Webserver (10.1.1.3) using RTR-2
We found in the that ISP Switch, that even when RTR-1 is down, the MAC address for 157.220.100.61 is still present one pointing to RTR-1 and other pointing to RTR-2. There are 2 MAC address entries for 157.220.100.61

Mar 17, 2011Got an ASA5520 running V8.2(3) and we want to upgrade our internet bandwidth. Our ISP says OK but we need to install different physical circuit, upgrade CPE router, etc.
Then they say, btw your globally allocated IPs will change - this is a problem as we have Site-to-Site VPN Tunnels, IPSEC RA, etc.
ISP are proposing to give us a 3 month period whereby old & new IP blocks will be routed to our ASA (by means of secondary IP address on their Cisco CPE).
Multiple IPs on the same physical i/f on the ASA require sub-interfaces/IP Addresses/VLAN ids on my "outside" i/f.
Is this going to horiibly break Site-to-Site VPN Tunnesl, IPSEC remote access ?
Will VLANs work at all with IPSEC on the "oustide" i/f at all ?

Apr 29, 2012we have a 3560 switch configured with EIGRP with dhcp. We have a user that we cannot ping, however the interface show up / up and no errors on interface. the ip address is 10.2.0.199 - however we have dhcp configured to exclude the range from dhcp ip dhcp excluded-address 10.22.0.1 10.22.0.200 how can this work station get a dhcp address if we have that ip range excluded from the dhcp pool?
The user is off a different switch that is a uplink to this distribution switch. Traceroutes shows that the problem is with the distribution switch.
Unknown IP Address Range On Router DHCP Client List
Nov 19, 2011I keep getting some additional IP addresses logging onto my home network that have an address outside what should be allowed by the router. The server is running at 192.168.2.1 and is set to only allow clients from 192.168.2.2 - 192.168.2.10 so a total of 9 clients should be allowed on.The problem is that something keeps logging in with an address of 192.168.169.2 or 3 etc. Sometimes more than one device at a time.I have assumed that it is some automated or virtual client as I'm pretty certain my network has not been breached. I have a 9 character password with a relatively random alphanumeric combination, although I haven't tried changing the password (I live in a share house with with a bunch of devices using wireless, so I haven't yet bothered). What I don't understand is how it has connected with the xx.xx.169.xx range at all. I have a Belkin 'Share' Wireless N Modem Router and at some stage there was a 'guest' network but that has since been disabled and I still am seeing the extra address. I have attached a screen shot of the DHCP client list on the router.The following is a list of devices that may be on the network at times, I'm thinking one of these may be responsible for the problem:

Epson wireless printer
Android HTC Desire Mobile Phone
Laptops running various Windows versions (XP, Vista and 7)
A few thoughts I had:
- the android phone is capable of running a wireless hotspot, may have to look into it to see if if has been operating as an access point into the Belkin router, but assumed this wouldn't bring up clients connected to the phone on the home router.
- The desktop has PS3 Media server installed to stream video to the PS3 over the network (not that I have ever managed to get it to work), however this is not ever open on the desktop.

Aug 11, 2012I have a sony bravia tv that has wifi and supports dlna. And I have a desktop in another room, running windows xp. Since they both connected to the same network, is it possible to use the tv as another screen for the pc?( duplicate the screen, whatever i do on the pc will be shown on the tv screen) I'm installing a software that might stream content from the pc to the tv, but then i'm not hoping too much on it because the tv seems to be very picky about fCPUile formats... so i figured somehow duplicating the screen would be best if all else fails i'll just hook up the CPU to the TV.

Mar 5, 2012I am trying to test the MTU between two 3750 switches I have in the lab. I've set the MTU with the command "system mtu 9000" on both switches and rebooted.
The only connections on the switches are the gig ports connecting the two switches. Each interface is a member of vlan 1.
I am doing an extended ping. I set the datagram size to 2000. When the df bit is set the ping doesn't go through. If the DF bit is not set the ping goes through.
The debug ip icmp shows, 4d00h: ICMP: dst (1.1.1.1): frag. needed and DF set.
Why is fragmentation needed when the MTU is set to 9000?

Cisco WAN :: 7200 VXR - Named Extended Access List
Oct 10, 2012I've got a 7200 vxr that I'm trying to create a named extended access-list in.
I got to configure it if I go into ip after that the only commands available for access-list are log-update, logging, and re sequence.
so if I go back to the main config menu access-list is an available command
but then from the main config menu, if I type: access-list extended eth0_in it says invalid input detected at the carrot marker which is under the first character of the work extended.
also, at the main config menu, if I type: ip access-list extended eth0_in it again give me the invalid input detected at the word extended.
I don't understand what I am missing to get this to work.
