Backup Internet Access Through Secondary Router?

Jan 30, 2013

I have two routers on my local network:

1. ADSL Wi-Fi router provided by my ISP. This is the primary router for my network which is connected to the internet. Router IP: 192.168.1.1 (DHCP enabled)

2. TP-Link wireless router which is connected to the primary router through its LAN port (not WAN) with its DHCP turned off. So I'm using this router ONLY to extend the network to another area. This is a 3G enabled router. Router IP: 192.168.1.2

There are two different wireless SSIDs but basically only ONE network (all the PCs connected through any of the two routers are on the same subnet and have same IP range i.e. 192.168.1.x). I want to use the 3G internet connection through the secondary router when the ADSL connection is down. Whenever the ADSL connection is down, I would just connect the 3G-USB to the secondary router, all the computers on the network should connect to the internet while skipping their route through the primary router WITHOUT CHANGING ANY SETTINGS. Is it possible? Do I need to modify the routing tables? Or is it possible by configuring the DHCP server to assign the primary DNS address as 192.168.1.1 and secondary DNS address as 192.168.1.2?

Cisco WAN :: 2821 / Using Secondary IP Address For NAT?

Mar 16, 2012

On a cisco 2821 running 15.1(3)T1 From this cisco DOC, common use of secondary IP addresses on an interface are

•There might not be enough host addresses for a particular network segment. For example, suppose your subnetting allows up to 254 hosts per logical subnet, but on one physical subnet you must have 300 host addresses. Using secondary IP addresses on the routers or access servers allows you to have two logical subnets using one physical subnet.

•Many older networks were built using Level 2 bridges, and were not subnetted. The judicious use of secondary addresses can aid in the transition to a subnetted, router-based network. Routers on an older, bridged segment can easily be made aware that many subnets are on that segment.

•Two subnets of a single network might otherwise be separated by another network. You can create a single network from subnets that are physically separated by another network by using a secondary address. In these instances, the first network is extended, or layered on top of the second network. Note that a subnet cannot appear on more than one active interface of the router at a time.

On the WAN interface I've added two Secondary Public IP's (from the same subnet) to use for NAT to internal hosts.  Is this a common scenario or is there a more typical way to acheive this. This assumes, I do not want to put a Public IP on an interface on the internal server.

interface GigabitEthernet0/1
description WAN$ETH-WAN$
ip address x.x.x.1 255.255.255.240
ip address x.x.x.2 255.255.255.240 secondary
ip address x.x.x.3 255.255.255.240 secondary

Cisco Firewall :: Secondary IP Address In ASA5510

Feb 7, 2013

Just want to know if there is a way to configure secondary IP address on the outside/public interface of ASA/PIX.One of our clients have used most of their IP on the subnet given by their ISP. They use those IP's for staticallymapping to Servers inside their local LAN. Thus, they requested another block/subnet from their ISP. They will also use this for static mapping/port forwarding to other servers in their network. The current UTM they are using is allowing this but they would like to use ASA/PIX as their main Firewall. Is this even possible or is there a workaround for this kind of scenario?

What would be the best method to accomplish this? Unsure of where to begin..

Cisco Routers :: RV082 V3 VPN Tunnel Backup Not Available On RV016

Jun 1, 2011

VPN tunnel backup is not available on the RV016 firmware version 4.0.2.08 (it IS on the RV082. The data sheet and the manual for the RV016 is wrong. I have purchased several RV016 hardware V3 and several RV082 hardware V3. Both have the same current firmware version. We have noted that the RV016 does not have the VPN tunnel failover option found in the RV082. It also does not have split DNS (noted in the manual. A I would have thought that the firmware would provide equal options on the RV042, RV082, and RV016.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: HSRP On Secondary IP Address - 2900

Feb 21, 2013

I have a few old 2600 routers (2621, different IOS's) which I'm now replacing for new one's from the 2900 series (2901, Version 15.1(4)M4).In my configuration I have two IP addresses in my LAN interface and I have HSRP configured within the secondary IP subnet range. It would be something like this:

interface GigabitEthernet0/1
ip address 172.x.x.x x.x.x.x secondary
ip address 10.z.z.z z.z.z.z

[Code].....

Now, in the new 2900 routers, my interface configuration hasn't changed however I can see that the hello packets are now sent with the source within the respective HSRP IP subnet so I had to edit my acl for that:

permit udp 172.x.x.x x.x.x.x host 224.0.0.2 eq 1985

Is there a way I can force the HSRP to work as it previously did in the old IOS's?

Broadcast is working within subnet    & also working from broadcast server to primary subnet. But not working from secondary subnet.. I have checked broadcast within secondary IP range & it's working fine...  Secondary not working broadcast with primary and also with broadcast server... broadcast address is different for these subnet but both should be communicate since configured on same interface... When I went through Cisco website found that command "ip directed broadcast" which will pass broadcast to different subnet... But I'm not sure whether any other impact if I enable that command on particular Ethernet interface...

I've searched google and various posts regarding that issue. It's seems like it's possible to do a dynamic-ip to dynamic-ip ipsec tunnel, but I found zero manuals and configuration.I've added the template that I'm using to configure the tunnel with ip addresses.
