Cisco WAN :: 1841 / Getting Performance Based Routing Setup

Cisco 1841 Software (C1841-ADVIPSERVICESK9-M), Version 15.1(2)T1, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)
Cisco Internal IP:192.168.X.254
Cisco External IP 64.X.X.5 (NAT)
Netopia DSL Router:
Internal IP: 192.168.X.253
Exernal: 76.X.45.3
Now the DSL was installed a while back for a different need and now that need is gone. What Id like to is have the Cisco router do performance routing and send out internet traffic to either its own external IP or send it over to the DSL if it can get a better response. Presently, Since the Cisco is my gateway, the DSL line is sitting idle.

Feb 17, 2012I continue to have significant performance and random reboots with DIR-825 router (hardware: Rev A1; Firmware: 1.13NA). My ISP has checked the lines to my cable modem. If I connect any of my laptops or PCs directly to the cable modem and work off the direct connect, all works fine with no problems for many days and even mutliple weeks. So, the router seems to be the bottleneck/issue.
I've tried multiple settings changes as listed in the forum here. My setup is fairly simple and detailed below.
Setup -> Internet:

-- I have disabled "Enable Advanced DNS Service"

Jun 14, 2012We've been using an 655 in an NGO office that has grown to 20+ computers in two buildings (next to each other). The 655 doesn't seem to be handling that many clients very well so I want to get another one (perhaps a more powerful unit). We will stay operating on 2.5Ghz, have one of the units act as an AP in the other building (too bad we can't bridge with these). Most of the router activity is LAN based (server, etc). Our Internet connection is only 256kbps satellite (and is proxied first through the server). But the LAN performance is not good when many clients are active and some services on the router will freeze and require reboot several times a week, assuming b/c it's overtaxed.
1. know if the 825 will perform better in in 2.5ghz only mode than the 655? Seems that it has more RAM. Newer processor too? The tests I saw online showed that the 655 outperformed the 825 in simultaneously connections, but I assume that was probably in dual mode. I want to know if the 825 will be better in 2.5ghz only mode. We won't need 5ghz mode.
2. Is there another newer DLink I should consider that would provide better capacity and throughput on 2.5ghz only? However, it is ciritical that we keep the same feature set for security (IP based access control rules to various IP ranges on the Internet).
3. It would be awesome if some DLink supported even more sources and/or destinations per access control rule. We use these extensively and the 655 B1 2.01 build has several bugs for access control rules. Is there any DLink that has more robust access control or is it about the same for all?

D-Link DIR-615 :: Performance Dropped After New Internet?
Jun 9, 2012Despite all the drama regarding the DIR-615, I've had the B2 revision since around late 2008 or early 2009 (can't remember exactly, most likely late 2008) and it had been working flawlessly. And I do mean that. I never once had a problem with this router and highly recommended it. Back then I was on a 24/1 connection, and had been up until recently.
Now I'm on a 100/10 line, and things haven't been looking too great. The internet is stable for the most part, and I am getting full speed, but the router has been starting to drop its connection a lot. I've had to release -> renew (or simply restart the router) quite often now and it seems to be happening at complete random.
weaking with settings, updating firmware, etc but no luck. All connections in question are of course wired, not wireless.

Jan 22, 2012I read the sticky related to firmware updates. I have a DIR-655, that has been been giving me good service for quite a few years. I subscribe to the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" philosophy as I have managed to keep my home network and computers running over the years, but I'm not knowledgable in these matters. I am still running firmware 1.10, and have not wanted to take a chance that if I upgraded I would find myself with numerous devices with no connectivity (running mix of Mac and PC desktops and laptops, XBox, Wii, Roku box, numerous iPhones and iPods, LG TV, and an iPad).
Recently I moved to the cable company phone, and they added a new modem. They have it set as a gateway (I think that is the terminology), and my network works basically as it did before. I have noticed though, that my Roku box, laptops, and skype on my Mac desktop seem to be having periods of slower download (Roku box), skype choppiness, and download that stop. I was thinking that perhaps if I upgraded the firmware, my performance might improve. After reading the sticky, it seems like firmware may not be the answer. This is a reliable but older piece of equipment, and now I'm thinking that I just need to upgrade to a newer and perhaps more advanced router.

Feb 5, 2012I replaced a Dir-655 at a coffee shop, with a new dir-655 a few weeks ago. They keep calling and saying that Windows clients are not working and that Mac clients do.My first thought is that they are overloading the router but I would think that all computers would have problems not just the Windows computers. could the router be so bogged down that it takes to long for DHCP request for windows computers assigning the IP twice?

May 16, 2013A few days ago I received my DIR-655 I ordered off Amazon and hooked it up. There were no problems the first day after initial setup. The next day I noticed that I was losing internet connection even though the wifi indicator on my laptop said otherwise. This happens for about 5 minutes at a time and on other devices such as my desktop and my iPad. And I hopped on Call of Duty last night and played a competition with some friends and gave everyone 4bar connection. Later that night, I was playing some more and people that connected to me received 1bar connection and I got that in return on their connection. I feel that the router isn't working with my devices right?

My DIR-825 has the latest firmware, 2.06xx and works flawlessly, even the shareport usb port works without a hitch with a Seagate Expansion 3TB drive connected into it. What I simply would like is the D-Link gadget.

The 1841 has three interfaces.
Fa0/0 - LAN
Fa0/1- Different private network
Fa0/1/0 - Connection to DSL modem
NAT overloading is configured on Fa0/1 and we have traffic that must be router there. We would like to have all internet access go through the DSL modem. Currently internet access is obtained through fa0/1 but is not ideal. I have floating static routes configured if the DSL link goes down. (Which is currently unplugged) I do not have physical access to the router at this moment. We would like to keep the config a simple as possible. It seems like route-maps may be one of our only options.

However, our implementation team said that Cisco 1841 doesn't support 10M link. It is not designed to cater to such high Bandwidth.

May 22, 2010Currently running a pair of 5520 as VPN routers. running 8.0.3, been using only Anyconnect SSL VPN for end users. These boxes do nothing else except serve VPN clients.However, recently we tried testing some IPSEC clients and are realizing that the Anyconnect SSL VPN clients is about 10x slower than the IPSEC client.From my house, downloading either CIFS or FTP, I can pull pretty close to 1.0mbps, while using Anyconnect, I pull 0.1mbps. What could be causing this slowdown? Should SSL VPN performance be on par with IPSEC? Clients all are windows 7, 64 bit. and the testing is being conducted on the same device.

A) Only "appliance" i.e. load balancing traffic, any other normal routed traffic is not included in the limit

B) Is it an overall throughput limit on the interfaces i.e. includes all traffic not only load balancing traffic but also normal routed traffic crossing the appliance
Looking at a scenario where the lic size I need for HTTP load balanacing would be one size if A) but would need to be much larger is B) to accomodate out of hours routed backup traffic crossing the ACE 4710

Day to day VPN usage is 30-50 users and the memory (512 MB) is typically at 50% while the CPU is mostly under 30%. I've suggested the RAM be upgrade to 1GB.The client would like to add a large block of VPN users which could see 250-300 concurrent users. What kind of a system resource hit should the expect with this level of load?

Dec 18, 2011I recently inherited a small network. There is an existing 1.5mbps Internet connection (fa0/0) (includes MPLS as well/same provider). We added a new ISP that allows for 50mb down/5mb up. I added the new ISP to fa0/1 and modified the NAT overload statements accordingly. I alo changed the default route to ONLY use the new, faster ISP connection. Using speedguide.net, I am only able to get 6 to 10mb down, most of the time. if I plug a laptop into the cable modem then I get 37 to 50mb down. Why the 2811 is so slow?
I have attached the config and various show outputs (nat, sh ver, memory, etc.). the file called "latest logs" contains a "sh ip traffic, sh int switching and a sh proc cpu sorted". [code]
