Cisco WAN :: 40Gb Port-Channel Between 3750-x Switch Stacks?
Apr 9, 2012
I have a customer that would like a 40Gb port-channel between two 3750-x switch stacks. When I try to activate four 10Gb ports in the channel, they go into error-disable. However, I am able to create a 20Gb port-channel without issue. I have had my configurations verified to Cisco best practice.
Is there a limitation on the amount of throughput that the 3750-x can handle? According to the data sheet the 3750X-48T can handle 101.2mpps, based on two 10Gb uplinks so if my math is correct then a stack of two 3750X-48T should be able to handle 202.4mpps.

What is the load balance method of 3750 port channel ( by source ip , or by source mac ) to diver traffic to paths? I have tried to use 10.242.104.101 and 10.242.104.102 as source ip, it will travel to the same link (G0/1) within one port channel (G0/1+G0/2). Howerver, if I later use 10.242.104.109, then this time it will traffic to G0/2 link. What's the concept behind.

I have 3750 core/distribution switches with routing enabled in two offices connected with copper link and L3 port channel interfaces. NewOffice#2 has moved about 5 miles farther away from office#1 and I have to deploy new core/distribution switch connect it to old core#2 via F.O and move all access switches with it. Old core will stay in old #2 offices as a bridge between office#1 and new office#2 Office#1core<->copper (Ethernet) <->oldoffice#2core<->f.o. <->new office#2core How I should configure port channels ports on oldoffice#2 core to act as bridge between office#1 core/dist and newoffice#2 core/dist without changing anything else (ip, etc) on whole network

I set up a port-channel trunk between a acess switch 3750 ( int gi2/0/1 and gi2/0/2) and Core 6509( int gi7/11 and gi7/12).
On the both the 3750& 6509 I configured:
interface Port-channel15
switchport
switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
switchport trunk allowed vlan 100,103
switchport mode trunk
But the ports on the core g7/11 and g7/12 keep shutdown and when I do show interfaces port-channel 15, it show the interface is shutdown.

I am building a new network and intended on using the min-link feature on my port-channels between a 3750-X series switch and Nexus 4k.
However reading further into this it seems this feature is only supported on higher end models. I cannot find any reference to the min-links feature in the 3750-X configuration guide. Is this an available feature?
The 3750-X model is WS-C3750X-24T-L running IOS 12.2(55)SE3 IP Services
My thoughts is that the is only an LACP supported feature so I may not see the command until I have entered an LACP specific command on the port-channel but unfortunately I do not have a 3750X to verify this on at present.

We have a switch that, when configuring auto qos on and edge port facing video equipment, the upstream port channel drops. I was wondering if no auto qos would have to be configured on the member ports of the port channel prior to enabling auto qos on any other ports.

I have 2 3750 switch stacks which I would like to have redundant trunks between them. This will provide two physical connections traveling through different geographical locations for redundancy in the event that a cable is severed. I couldn't find anything in regards to setup/config. Does it matter if I go stack1/switch1 to stack2/switch1 and stack1/switch2 to stack2/switch2 or should they cross to opposite switches like a stack cable? I don't think that should be necessary, but couldn't find any documentation. Should there be an issue with loops?

how to configure this. I did it in the past but kind of forgot how I did it.I have a stacked 3750 (two physical switches) connecting to a 2960.
I am creating trunk ports with limited access to VLAN 300, 600, and 700.
There is two interfaces connected from the 3750's(one on each physical stack member) to the 2960.I have the physical interfaces configured exactly the same.
3750 Config:
interface Port-channel2
!
interface FastEthernet1/0/46
switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
switchport trunk allowed vlan 1, 300,600,700
switchport mode trunk
speed 100
[code]....
Should I keep the configuration on the physical ports and not configure the Port-Channel Interfaces? Do I need to configure port-channel load balancing? Is the channel-group mode sufficient? Goal is to basically create 2 links to the 2960 to double the bandwidth and provide redundancy.

I have a 3750 as core switch, adding 2 stacks of 2960S to connect. I want to establish etherchannel between the 3750 and each additonal 2960S stack, do the channel group numbers between the 3750 and the new 2960s have to match? 3750 has two channel-groups(1 and 2) already configured. Need to know, I would create 2 additional channel groups (number 3,4) for each of the etherchannels between the 3 2960S Stacks and 3750? OR channel-group # is local to the device.

Currently in our environment we have have two buildings with an ASA 5520 in each and a core stack of 3750's in each building. I am currently working on a network segmentation project and am thinking of adding another stack of 3750's in each building to add more redundancy to our network. This will allow our access layer switches to have a trunk to each stack and prevent an outage if one of the links or stacks were to go down.
My question is how I would set this up on the ASA end of things while using a common subnet and HSRP on the 3750's. I understand how to use HSRP and STP on the switches to achieve this on the 3750 end of things. I saw you can do etherchannel on the ASA with 8.4 but how does that work in a failover situation?

We are using 3750 switches as WAN router facing the WAN cloud. To configure QoS for its WAN port, should I use 'auto qos voip trust" or treat it like a router port and configure class-maps, policy-maps, and attact service-policy input or output?
Because switches have different queuing and dropping methods than routers, auto qos can generate QoS configs that are considered most appropriate for 3750 switches. However the switch functions as WAN router. Maybe it should be configured using router type of QoS with policy-maps and service-policy?

I'm trying to setup a port on a catalyst 3750 so it will pass traffic for 2 vlans. It connects to a (watchguard) firewall which I've configured with a primary IP (for vlan 27) and a secondary IP (for vlan 29).
However I can't seem to find the correct commands to enter on the cisco switch port (I've tried a variety).
FYI the current configuration is...
interface FastEthernet1/0/38
description ## Connection to WG vlan27 and vlan 29 ##
switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q

We have QoS configured throughout the company, but the standard config we have applied across the 3750 switches only includes the below: We have IP phones (not cisco) attached that are marking with EF, and the PC is an untrusted end device (so needs to be by default marked as zero). Is the above enough to trust VOIP DSCP EF without resetting it to DSCP 0, or do I also need to add a trust line (i.e.: mls qos trust dscp)?

Since Avaya phones do not run CDP, how does the phone know which DHCP pool to pull from to get its IP address if the PC is connected to the phone.
Let's say I have a interface config like this

cisco3750(config-if)#switchport mode trunk
cisco3750(config-if)#switchport access vlan 126

And two DHCP scopes configured on the switch. What keeps the phone from pulling from the wrong scope?

Any method of forcing a non connected switch port LED to blink for a certain number of times regardless if there is anything connected. The purpose of this is we have remote 3750 switch stacks and quite often have to tell non technical staff to patch to a certain port. It would be much easier if we could say "Connect it to the empty port which just started blinking orange" as the port numbers are difficult for them to see in these locations.A similar feature is available in the ethtool package for linux which makes it really easy for identifying ports on servers. It would be great if a similar feature is available on Cisco switches.

We have a stack of switches that is at the max number of members allowed in the stack. Problem is we are running out of port density and need to add more ports. So instead of adding a whole new stack I would rather replace 2 of the 24-port swicthes with 48-port switches.
If the two 24-port swicthes we are removing are stack members and neither of them are the stack master, I should be able to replace the 24-port switches with the 48-port switches without bringing the master offline? If the new 48-port switches are running the same IOS version as the current 24-port swicthes, they should add themselves to the stack?Would I have to tell the new 48-port swicthes what switch numbers they are replacing in order for them to be added to the stack since we are at the max number of members? Also since the 48-port swicthes are replacing 24-port switches will the master give the 48-port switches the configuration for only the 24-ports?
