Cisco WAN :: 800 / Bandwidth Priority By IP Address?
Feb 11, 2013
I just wonder if there is simply way on Cisco 800 to set bandwidth priority for internal IP address. Basically I have server and would like to make sure, whatever comes to it or goes out has the highest priority and users won’t kill bandwidth for the server connection.

I currently have the following network structure, which work fine:
The only bandwidth management configuration I did in the Cisco E1000 router is to set the QOS, giving high priority to the 5 SIP Phones mac addresses.
The problem: I purchased a Small Business Cisco router RV016 because the company keep expanding so they will add more SIP Phones and PCs. In the new router configurations, there is no way to do like I did on the E1000 I just want to be able to set high priority to the SIP Phones mac addresses.
What happens when I use the new router (RV016) is that, sometime you dial a number and the phone do a busy signal and indicate "Call failed" or sometime people call in and there is only 3 phones ringing.
I tried port forwarding.. disabling firewall.. SPI.. I tried access rule.. whatever I do doesn't fix the issue.
When I put the Cisco E1000 back everything goes well.
I'm using the latest firmware: RV0XX-v4.1.1.01-sp.bin

I have about 4 different devices accessing the same network, which lags my pc gaming severely. I was wondering if there is a way to set my IP to the main priority. I am using a Westell 7500 router.

We have some point-to-point sites linked with our HO with 10-30mbps speed. We have provided DID telephone lines to these sites as well.
We want to limit the bandwidth with 1mb bandwidth only and also make sure that the voice traffic (DID telephone lines) gets the priority over all other traffic even if they are utilitizing the 1mb link completely. We have some Cisco 1841 routers that we are planning to configure on the main uplink on each of these sites. how to give the priority to the voice traffic yet limiting the bandwidth to 1mb.

We have 3 sets of applications. The first does not require much bandwidth but is very critical, the other two is more bandwidth consuming but less critical. I would like to know if it's possible to reflect this priorities on the router configuration. Is it possible to set the ports 10000, 10001 and 10002 of the external IP have higher priority to be handled, for example? Also, is it possible to limit the bandwidth that goes through a set of ports?
I must prevent the 2 sets of less critical applications to strugle the critical ones. What router can provide this capabilities? Is the 1921 able to do this job?

I have a SG 300-20 small business switch and I would like to restrict bandwidth by gateway ip address but not by physical port or LAG. On the web interface, I can only do bw limiting per port or lag. I want to do bandwidth limiting by the IP addresses that I assign to vlans that my hosts use as a gateway ip.

Been looking around in my routers settings for something that even comes close to limiting bandwidth on a specific port, or mac address, but the only thing I can find is priority settings like "Low, Normal, High, and Highest" I did however see this:
I am not 100% sure if I can specifically set bandwidth limit per port or mac address, cause I don't see an option to do that, so I presume it just limits the whole network as one...

We will shortly be installing a Cisco 3825 router, to be connected to the BTNet service, over fibre. We will be binding many public IP addresses to the router.
Is there a way of defining a specific bandwidth limit per IP address, or range?

I am fairly new to Cisco, but am trying to configure a 1921 router to give higher priority to SIP/VoIP traffic (Port 5060) than everything else. The connection is only 4Mb and is getting hit hard by video streaming, I don't want to block this, just make a lower priority.Any ideas where I am going wrong? My current config is as below. The IP addresses have been changed for security reasons, but in reality are both in the same range, i.e. are both external IPs, so I am not sure if this is causing the problem. Do I need NAT for QoS to work?

When I ping my video streaming host's IP address (the IP that they gave me where I can view my IP web camera's video stream), I get anywhere from 0% to 8% packet loss at various times of the day. They're claiming that there's no problem, that this is because this is a router and it's dropping ping packets due to "ping priority giving preference to more important network traffic."

New to the forum and not much Cisco IOS experience let alone on the security side of things. I know how to navigate the IOS and can do basic switching and routing just fine. My company currently has a DMVPN setup w/ about 10 tunnels going back to the hub. We have 4 more sites they want me to setup and I keep getting stuck at the crypto maps. I have been reading about VPN's, DMVPN's , etc. for days now but can't find any examples of how we are configured. The priority of our crypto maps start at 65536 and go up. Default max is 65335 from what I have read, and I cannot assign a priority that high statically. [code]

I've got a LAN with private IPs for the computers, and public, static IPs for the VoIP phones. They are a Hosted VoIP provider, and I want to give priority to the public IPs with my ESW-520-48P switch. How do I implement that in this switch?
I have no roles assigned on the ports and no VLANs setup either. I had tried segregating the VLANs first, but eliminated that route. It's all VLAN 1 now in the switch again. For some reason when I implemented VLAN 100 for voice, voice stopped working on the phones, but data was still fine.

I have a known working configuration with many sites and one operative center that receives all communications. The connection OF THE OLD SITE is here detailed:Now I need to integrate another site. The difference between the old site and the new site is the following:
-old site communicates with the operative center by means of the FE0/1 or by means of an HWIC4T serial interface.
old site automatically switches between the tunnel on the ethernet interface (FE0/1) and the serial channel giving priority to the ethernet tunnel.
-new site will communicate with the operative center by means of the FE0/1 or by means of a transceiver device connected on the FE0/0.
-both new site and old site have a LAN on the FE0/0 where data is generated and sent to the router to be dispached to the best available channel.
The connection of THE NEW SITE is here detailed: the old site was configured this way: [code]
the first line means that everything starting from the client directed to 192.169.0.2 it will be sent on the tunnel1.the second line tries to route the same packets on serial0/0/0 with low priority. On the New site i did the same:
i created the tunnel form my cisco 2811 to the operative center using the FE0/1, then i added the following:ip route 192.169.0.2 255.255.255.255 Tunnel1
This works as expected routing the packets to the operative center on the FE0/1.Now I miss the second part: route packets on the FE0/0 to the ip address 192.168.1.31 WITH LOW PRIORITY like i did on the old site.
I did some tries but no one solves. Which is, in your opinion, the right command to add on the cisco2811 in order to get the equivalent of what i did on the old site ( ip route 192.169.0.2 255.255.255.255 Serial0/0/0 10 ) ?

Our company had been buying Cisco 1841 routers for years and they have served us well. The 1841 was discontinued and instead we have now purchased a Cisco 1921. It is brand new, running "Version 15.0(1r)M15" of IOS ("usbflash0:c1900-universalk9-mz.SPA.151-4.M4.bin" file).
On our older Cisco 1841 routers, we would always prioritize certain TCP and UDP packets using the priority-list command. However, I have suddenly discovered that priority-list is not available on this brand new router. (?) I am unsure why. I did some reading and according to the document [URL], and priority-group are unsupported in Cisco IOS 15.
Later version of a product isn't as fully-featured as the earlier version. I want to prioritize the following type of network traffic.
UDP ports 8000 through 8063, 2427, 2727, 9300, 9301
TCP port 35300, 60001 through 60010, 2065, 33333, 3065
giving them a higher priority than the rest of other packets. This is necessary for our vendor's VoIP implementation. These packets should be "high" priority; everything else can be "medium."

Is there any way I can tell if an network priority is setup on the router? The last week or so the internet has been unusually slow sometimes, and not slow at all other. I don't have a good relationship with my roommate (network administrator) and I feel she may have put a network priority on the router for her and or her boyfriends computer/s. Is there any way to tell? Is there a particular way in which the internet behaves when a priority is set? I just don't want to pay for the internet if it is not going to work most of the time.

In QoS, voice traffic is usually marked EF and placed in a priority queue. But interactive video traffic, like VTC, should also receive priority treatment. Can I put both classes in their own priority queues in the same policy map? I thought there could only be one LLQ, but I'm not sure about it. An example of the config I'm thinking of is below. Voice would be marked EF, VTC would be marked AF41.

We're testing the reference system shown in the figure below. System Description Four 2960 switches are used for transport;Equipment 1 and Equipment 2 exchange packets for synchronization; To reach synchronization Equipment 1 and 2 must exchange data with a very low jitter. 2960 Configuration details Four our test puprose, we're using 100Mbit/s ports (22 and 23) as trunk. In order to obtain minimum jitter We performed these configurations:We Enabled QoS;We Marked Synchronization packets with CoS 7 and DSCP 63;We marked other kind of traffic inserted in different ports) with CoS 0;We set "trust DSCP" on trunk ports; On the trunk ports we mapped traffic with CoS 7/DSCP 63 (and only this) on output queue 1;We enabled the expedite queue (priority-queue out). QuestionWith these settings we aim at forcing our synchronization packtes to precede other kind of traffic and go from Equipment 1 to Equipment 2 with minimum jitter.Unfortunately we experienced high jitter when both synchronization packets and other traffic are sent through the systems.

I have a new Router Cisco RV180W and dont know wich priority must I set in the High, Medium, Low option of the QOS in order to work fine with the Ip Voice device.
The default values are 61, 31 y 10 but in a net with 12 PCs.I think that configuring 61 for Voice Ip and only 31 to the rest of the net is a too low value. This is defining 2 virtual Lans. How can I fine the criteria to configure these values of priorities ????
In the previous Router (a Cisco WR210) the only thing that was configured was that the Voice Ip device was connected in the Lan Port number 2 with priority high.

We have three locations, Seattle, LA and NJ. All the users need to go through the proxy server in NJ if they need to access to internet. We use the port 3128 on the proxy server for accessing the internet. We implement the QoS on the WAN for those three locations. For the internet acces, we configure the port 3128 as the NBAR and classify it as the lower priority.
The issue is...we want to have the users access to the URL as high priority, and the other web sites are still set as the lower priority. Are there any ways to accomodate it?

I am about to buy a NMP (WD Live Hub) to put my local video/music/pic content on and drive many TVs in my house. These NMP also have services like Hulu, NetFlix, etc. I plan to sign-up for NetFlix and do the unlimited streaming thing via the WD Hub. I have a 5Mbps broadband pipe which is right at the suggested level for HD streams.....but I think the DIR-655 can prioritize streams/video ?
plan to put the Hub on Static (Reserved) IP address on my network....however, I've never messed with a Router and prioritization. I assume it is something to do with the port(s) used, etc. I have no idea the ports that will be used by the Hub for NetFlix, how/where in the DIR-655 I can accomplish this how to ID the ports used would be great....eg. some variant of Netstat command, etc ?
