About twice a day (that I notice) my wireless loses its internet connection. All the wired machines continue to be connected to the internet but any wireless ones lose internet, though they maintain a connection with the router.
View 7 RepliesI have a cisco 871w router that I'm trying to incorporate into an existing network. I have FastEthernet4 (WAN port) plugged into an ISP device, which I don't have access to. I have the address set to use dhcp, which is successfully recognized and I see that the interface gets a valid ip address that I can ping with other computers on the same network.
Problems: I am logged into the router via the serial port and I cannot ping websites on the internet. I am able to ping sites that are hosted inside the WAN, but when I try "google.com" for instance, I see it sending out packets, but none are received. It resolves the hostname from the local DNS server, but there are no packets received.
I type into the console to set up the router. I'm missing a lot of stuff. This is what I've been able to piece together using google and the software manuals:

I am new to Cisco and am studying for my CCENT certification. At the moment, I am attempting to correctly configure a Cisco 871W lab router. Since I have undertaken this task, I have run into nothing but problems. First off it was finding that the previous owner had left a password on it, having to purchase a new USB to DB9 adapter to pass the "break" sequence to the router, and then resetting the router in ROM Monitor mode.
Now, I cannot seem to configure the router correctly, and am quite stumped.
My ISP is Charter (cable internet), and the home network that I am using consists of a Motorola SBV5122 Digital Voice Modem, Motorola SB6120 Cable modem, and, ideally, should also include my Cisco 871W router.
When I connect my router to the SB6120 Cable modem, the router receives an IP address via DHCP and the WAN indicator light turns on.
I have a VLAN configured on the 4 switchports of the router, and it is setep to act as a DHCP server. However, when I connect my PC to rhe router via Cat5e Crossover cable, I cannot access the internet. The router gives the PC an IP address, yet all attempts to ping the PC from the router fail. Somehow, I can connect to the router via SSH though.
Furthermore, I can ping the 127.0.0.1 loopback address from my PC, but cannot do so from the router.
how to correctly configure this router to function as intended in my network situation, however, this is proving to be seemingly unsurmountable!

I've just started styding for CCNA. Bought a router 871W recently and spent two days straight trying to configure internet connection with no luck! I use console port to do the configs and SDM/CCP. How to do simple internet connection configs. I googled everything but it's still confusing. I can't assing any IP to FA ports 0 - 3. I used VLAN instead. But all tutorials use FA0 and when I try to assign an IP to FA0 it gives me some L2 can't be assigned or something... :/ And I'm also confused what IP address should I use for WAN. I plugged the cable from Modem to PC's LAN port and wrote down some IP addresses which I think I'll have to use to configure the router for internet connection. And here they are:

I have a Cisco 871w that has been a very great product for many years. I recently switched to Windows 7 x64 on my main machine and now i am having all sorts of issues with it.. I have done a bit of research and found that it appears that it might be the firewall on the SDM that is causing the slowness issues. what does happen is that downloads from known good sites will run really slow. If i hook up my Macbook Pro or my Windows XP laptop i have no issues at all. i have tried Disabling IPv6 as well as SMB2.0 and this has not resulted in a fix at this point.

This has only happened with my friends connection before my wireless worked just fine. Is there a way to fix it from crashing?
View 15 Replies View RelatedMy wireless internet will randomly shut off, roughly every other day. It will shut up and say that my wireless router needs to be reset, but all other wireless devices continue to work throughout the house. I could run any amount of diagnostic but it will not fix. The only time it fixes it when it says "repair as administrator" as one of the options in diagnostic test which does not always appear. I went to school yesterday, and my laptop would not connect to the wireless network there at all, but everyone else around me connected fine.

My new router has started to disconnect for a second or so from the internet then reconnect. I have been unable to see the issue and changing the frequency was unsuccessful. This has also been happening when connecting both wired and wirelessly

i am a total n00b when it comes to wireless routers etc,.. i bought this router [E3200] about six mths ago, it has been working just fine untill a couple days ago, wher i woud be on the internet and all of a sudden, the internet connection drops, i am using a cable modem [ARRIS TM722G] ,i did a reset on the e3200 and put restore the settings that did last over night
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have an E2500 with the latest firmware upgrade (1.0.03). My configuration is simple, I have a fixed IP from my ISP with fixed DNS servers. I have one computer connected via cable and one connected via wireless and a laptop that gets connected on occasion wirelessly as well. I also have an android phone that I sometimes have the networking turned on and sometimes not. That doesn't seem to be affecting the router either as I've lost connections under both circumstances. The only thing I have different is I clone the MAC address as the ISP has my IP linked to my old Linksys MAC.
The problem is I randomly lose connection to the internet, the home network is still up it's just the internet goes down. I could be on the computer or not, sometimes while browsing sometimes after I browse for a while sometimes before I get started. Fortunately its not happened during one of my online games but it has happened just after I log off the game. It usually happens a couple of times a day.
my E2500 drops the internet connection randomly. I have no issues with wired or wireless access to the home network (sharing files, sharing printers etc...). To fix the problem I log into the router and do a soft reboot from the status page.
I posted this earlier and the only response I received was a cut and paste answer to make some changes to my wireless settings. Seriously doubting the relevance of the post I made the changes anyway and as expected nothing changed, the router still loses access to the internet without any warning. When I replied that I hadn't thought that that was the problem but that I HAD made the changes mentioned and as I expected it DIDN'T work I get no response.
I have a problem with myself a few other clients randomly disconnecting from my 871W. It appears that I am still associated but Windows 7 shows "Limited Access". I appear to be assosciated to the AP and I still have my ip address but I can't ping the 192.168.1.1 gateway (871W). I have also set my power plan to allow for Maximum Performance which I thought disabled PSP but the log is still showing errors.As a final note, after I reconnected by ip address (192.168.1.107) doesn't show up in "sh ip dhcp bindings" but I'm working.To correct the situation, I have to disconnect and the reconnect to the AP and then I am good for another day or close to it. My wireless internet has been acting a bit weird lately. I use a linksys Dual band wireless-N USB adaptor (WUSB600N) to connect to my router, a 2wire 1000sw. I am on windows 7. Recently, the internet has been dropping and reconnecting the connection weirdly; it is apparent in Portal 2 Co-op mode; it says the connection has been lost to the server, and then within 4 seconds, re-joins the server. During that time, the little network icon (the 4 bars in the task bar) says "Identifying."
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a brand new E4200 constantly losing internet connection (both wireless and wired). I have a ADSL connection to the internet, last router I had did not have the same issue. I also have a Cisco ASA 5505 for work connected to the ADSL modem and is not experiencing any disconnect issues. All computers connected to the router is losing internet connection, local lan keeps working. The internet connection gets back again after a 10-15 minutes or when resetting / turning off the router.
I have tried the following;
Changed ethernet cables
Disconnected the ASA 5505
Turned off wireless
Upgraded the firmware
Reseted to factory settings
I've been trying to get my wireless configured for the past few days with no luck. I can ping every device on my local network and I can ping outside my network and surf the web. My wireless devices can see my wireless network but cannot connect to it.

I have a 1242 Access Point as root and a 871W Router as a non-root bridge (Diagram attached). I have a laptop connected to Fa 0 of the 871W router.
* I am able to ping from the AP to the Router and vice versa
* I am also able to ping from the router to the laptop and vice versa
* But I am not able to ping from the laptop to the AP
All bridging commands seem to be fine. Even tried adding route commands, but none seem to work.Please find the configuration below:

I have an 871 set up at home with 2 VLANs, both of these vlans present a strange behavior where an user is unable to ping/contact another user on the same subnet, however if users are on different subnet it seems to work [code]
According to the troubleshooting that I have done, the issue seems to be with the broadcast traffic, ARP request/reply do not reach another host on the same subnet (wireless to wireless or wired to wireless) however if the wireless device iniciates the connection to wired, it works fine.
I have tried to enable proxy arp on the different VLANs and BVI and different combinations but no sucess in order to get traffic across 2 wireless devices on the same subnet or a connection that is iniciated for a wired client to a wireless one.
I tried enabling and disabling dot11 arp-cache but no luck.
I'm trying to setup a cisco 871w router in a very simple configuration using only 1 vlan. I have the FastEthernet interfaces setup such that when you plug in a client computer into one, everything works as expected. I'm now trying to set up the wireless portion. From what I've read on the internet, I managed to bring up the Dot11Radio0 interface and the BVI interface. It's a little confusing to me, but it looks like I need the BVI to bridge the wireless interface to the vlan? I'm not sure how it works...
Anyway the problem is that I can connect to my wireless network, but after authenticating, there is no ip address being assigned to the client. I don't think I'm bridging the interface correctly or something. Windows 7 gives me a yellow exclamation icon on the wireless tray icon saying "no internet access".

Very often my internet just goes down. I always get a problem about the DNS lookup failing. I decided to change my ISP but sadly I still get the same errors and slow down.

It usually happens when i'm running my minecraft server and something else that uses constant internet at the same time, such as pandora or playing on the server. it takes down our whole houses internet, and is really starting to piss me off because i run a full minecraft server so i cant really just stop it, and i cant afford renting one. it does this for both the wifi and lan.

So basically, this is what's happening; I'm randomly browsing some pages just fine, then I try to go to another page, and I can't load the page. I try to open a new page after that, it won't load. My internet still says it's at full bar internet access. I can somehow still use pages that are open (Such as a chat program, I can still chat in there, but I can't load any pages) for as long as a few hours after the internet supposedly shuts off. Everybody else in my household doesn't, and hasn't ever had this problem before, so I seriously doubt it's the modem. I've tried moving my laptop into those places to see if it's a problem with reception in the area I'm at, though it doesn't. The only thing that will turn the internet back on again, is a computer restart. After a fresh restart, the internet will last anywhere between 4 hours to a couple of days before doing that.?

I am running Windows XP on a desktop computer with the most current service pack installed and I have a linksys wireless router installed in the computer. I know the router isn't linksys, I think it may be netgear. I have no way of connecting wired to the router. My bf's laptop running windows 7 is used wirelessly in the same room as my desktop and rarely has any problems connecting. I should mention that this problem also occurred on this computer while living in other locations and using different routers, but it was never this sporadic. It was best when used in conjunction with the linksys WRT54G router.
I realized today looking at the status of the wireless network connection that the network name and signal strength will disappear and reappear randomly, all while still saying I am connected and that I have sent and received packets, and sometimes randomly changing connection speed as well. Sometimes an alert bubble will pop up saying that my internet connection is connected and that I have excellent signal strength, with varying speeds, but the internet still doesn't work. Or sometimes it does work. How to access it.
While searching the web, watching movies, or doing something randomly on my laptop which runs Windows Vista, I seem to randomly disconnect from my internet and it will soon reconnect a minute later. I currently have Comcast High Speed internet as my ISP and my router is a D-Link DIR-628. It mostly happens when i'm watching a video or something to that extent. I'm assuming it has to do with bandwidth? I am not completely sure though.
