View 1 RepliesI have several E4200 routers deployed in our library district. In one branch, we have been having sporadic problems with computers not being able to maintain a connection. Typically the computer will connect and then the connection will drop and Windows will display the yellow error triangle on the wifi signal strength display.I have swapped the router with another brand new E4200 with the latest firmware but am still having this problem.

I've had problems with my current wireless PCI card in my desktop; it would drop the signal rather frequently and even make my router need a power recycle. . I don't know how that is even possible. Anyway I think it has to do with my PCI slot since I tested the card in another computer and it seems to work well.
That being the case I would like to get a PCI-express x1 wireless card. Or is it better to go usb? Wireless G is what I'm using currently. The desktop wireless space seems kind of lucrative. .
I bought an 871w second hand with 124-24T IOS on it. I would like to enable QoS. When I use Cisco Configuration Professional to manage the router I click on QoS and it says it is not available. I know that the router itself is QoS capable.
This is my first time dealing with a router such as this and I wonder what I need to do to enable QoS.
Connection goes out from time to time. Especially when downloading and uploading. Ive posted here before and the problem fixed it self for a few days and now its back again. Drivers are up to date. Router firmware is up to date

I've configured two different ssid's with individual authorisation types - ssid_1 with eap, ssid_2 with wpa. All three ap's works as it should be, but 871w authorises only eap connections, and all other types are rejected

And it's a tough one, couldn't do it just with google, hope this is the place where I can get it done right step by step if possible. Everything else works fine. I'm going to post my messy show run below. Everything I did on dot11Radio will need to be cleared I suppose.

My laptop is having trouble connecting to the internet. Some of the time it is fine, but at other times it will not connect to my home wireless network (or any other open ones I can find) despite the network being in full signal. The only advice offered by the troubleshooter is to reset the wireless router. This does work (but is very irritating to flatmates!) but doesn't prevent the problem recurring. Only my computer has an issue, and sometimes it will manage to connect to the internet by itself, seemingly spontaneously. The laptop is set to connect automatically, and when not working it also does sometimes attempt to connect, (i.e. it says 'connecting') but cuts out again before managing it. The problem can last for a few minutes or several hours.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with myself a few other clients randomly disconnecting from my 871W. It appears that I am still associated but Windows 7 shows "Limited Access". I appear to be assosciated to the AP and I still have my ip address but I can't ping the 192.168.1.1 gateway (871W). I have also set my power plan to allow for Maximum Performance which I thought disabled PSP but the log is still showing errors. As a final note, after I reconnected by ip address (192.168.1.107) doesn't show up in "sh ip dhcp bindings" but I'm working. To correct the situation, I have to disconnect and the reconnect to the AP and then I am good for another day or close to it. View 2 Replies View Relatedmy E1000 router locks up and I lose Internet connectivity until I unplug the router's power cord, wait for 10 seconds or so, then plug it back in and let it restart. This seems to be triggered (a.) when I land on a web page with intensive graphics, etc., that takes a while to load, or (b.) if I launch a web page really quickly while another one already is up. it doesn't just happen spontaneously when I'm working on the computer. This computer I'm working on is old and slow, which is why as per my earlier inquiry about having to reconfigure the router and network , I'm looking at changing to an up to date and faster model. I just updated to the latest firmware, probably a week or so ago, but the router was doing this before then and still is doing it now.

View 4 Replies View RelatedJust a few days ago, my router started acting up. We have several laptops and phones all connected fine, then I will suddenly lose internet access. The windows 7 networking icon is showing me connected but no internet access, however, I can't even connect to the router ip address over wifi. If I use a wired ethernet connection, then everything still works. If I power cycle the router, then everything will work for an hour or two before it drops the wifi connection again. When the wifi goes down, all computers can see the network, but none can connect to it. From windows 7, it just times out.
What could be causing this problem, and steps can I take to troubleshoot this kind of problem?
I have to reset my wireless router multiple times per day. Seems to just be our two laptops that fail to connect periodically, not other devices (iPods/cell phones/Wii). Both laptops have Windows 7. Router was replaced 2 years ago (went from Belkin to D-Link DIR-655) and the D-Link started acting like this a few months ago and is getting worse. I updated firmware on router last week in hopes it would fix it.

I purchased an E4200 from a retail store about ten days ago.It completely quits periodically. Even the managment interface is gone. It seems to just die. The only fix is to unplug it, count to ten and plug it back in.router also gets extremely hot. I have tried locating it in several places, no matter where I put it, it still gets very hot. Right now I have it straddling a trash can so that it has about two feet of air space under it. It is still uncomfortable to the touch.
When I contacted technical support all they would do is walk me through setting it up from scratch again. I've done that many times, and I do not want to do it agian. Setting the router up agian will not make it cool down.
1. Exchange this for another one, probably from the same batch, at the store?
2. Fight with Linksys tech support to get a waranty return? (Any input on how to get them to do this?)
3. Return this router altogether (paying the retailer's 15% restocking fee) and look for another brand?
I have an 871 set up at home with 2 VLANs, both of these vlans present a strange behavior where an user is unable to ping/contact another user on the same subnet, however if users are on different subnet it seems to work [code]
According to the troubleshooting that I have done, the issue seems to be with the broadcast traffic, ARP request/reply do not reach another host on the same subnet (wireless to wireless or wired to wireless) however if the wireless device iniciates the connection to wired, it works fine.
I have tried to enable proxy arp on the different VLANs and BVI and different combinations but no sucess in order to get traffic across 2 wireless devices on the same subnet or a connection that is iniciated for a wired client to a wireless one.
I tried enabling and disabling dot11 arp-cache but no luck.
I'm trying to setup a cisco 871w router in a very simple configuration using only 1 vlan. I have the FastEthernet interfaces setup such that when you plug in a client computer into one, everything works as expected. I'm now trying to set up the wireless portion. From what I've read on the internet, I managed to bring up the Dot11Radio0 interface and the BVI interface. It's a little confusing to me, but it looks like I need the BVI to bridge the wireless interface to the vlan? I'm not sure how it works...
Anyway the problem is that I can connect to my wireless network, but after authenticating, there is no ip address being assigned to the client. I don't think I'm bridging the interface correctly or something. Windows 7 gives me a yellow exclamation icon on the wireless tray icon saying "no internet access".
Here's my config:

I'm running Windows 7 64-bit with the very latest AE1000 driver (3.0.10.0). I have a Netgear WNDR3700 with dual band support. I replaced a D-Link DWA-556 PCIe 2.4 GHz card with this USB unit because I was seeing interference with my keyboard and mouse (Logitech Bluetooth). When the AE1000 works, I can consistently connect at 300 Mbps and the speed is great.Unfortunately, every so often, the connection to the internet drops and Windows 7 must do a wireless adapter reset in order to regain access to my network. During this time no other machines connected on the wireless network report any disruption and neither the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz WiFi profiles are connectable with the AE1000.I've tried switching from the built-in USB 2.0 ports on my motherboard to the USB 3.0 daughtercard to no avail. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver. However, I started seeing this issue literally the day I installed this thing. The problem happens sometimes a few instances in an hour but then won't happen again for another few hours. In Event Viewer, I'm pretty consistently seeing:The TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper service was successfully sent a stop control. The reason specified was: 0x40030011 [Operating System: Network Connectivity (Planned)]

Is it normal for the "CISCO" icon/light to "fast flashing" periodically - not to be confused with the "slow flashing" that the E4200V2 displays when being "power cycled"?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a cisco 871w router that I'm trying to incorporate into an existing network. I have FastEthernet4 (WAN port) plugged into an ISP device, which I don't have access to. I have the address set to use dhcp, which is successfully recognized and I see that the interface gets a valid ip address that I can ping with other computers on the same network.
Problems: I am logged into the router via the serial port and I cannot ping websites on the internet. I am able to ping sites that are hosted inside the WAN, but when I try "google.com" for instance, I see it sending out packets, but none are received. It resolves the hostname from the local DNS server, but there are no packets received.
I type into the console to set up the router. I'm missing a lot of stuff. This is what I've been able to piece together using google and the software manuals:
enable
config t
hostname [hostname]
interface FastEthernet 4

As soon as I add the interfaces of the router to security zones it significantly drops speed on WAN interface, below 1 Mbs. I noted this because I wasn't able to watch youtube. Moreover the bandwidth test from speedtest.net hangs and doesn't come to a result. Here below is the diagnostic example while doing that test. The question is what is going on? I have two iPhones and three computers in my network, that's it. My ISP bandwidth is 10 Mbs, so is this the router hardware limitations, or kind of malfunction or some misconfiguration down here? What could be done here ?
