I'm using a WAG54GS 1.0 router with up to date firmware, and signal around the house has always been fine, yet today it has suddently dropped to a VERY limited range - I'm sat right next to it now on a laptop and the signal is 2/5 bars - "fair".I've reset factory settings yet to no avail, I can't even get signal in the next room!
View 1 Repliesi'm setting up a wireless network for a local B&B they currently have a Linksys WAG54GS ADSL router in one of the rooms but need the wireless signal to reach each guest room the house has thick brick walls and an upstairs.i was thinking of using 2 x repeaters, the WRE54G's, and to put one on the ground floor within range of the current ADSL router and to put another on the 1st floor within range of the repeater on the ground floor to receive the bounced signal.I don't know much about these repeaters and how they work exactly and so unsure if this would be a viable solution in my case.
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy router refuses to link to the internet. Status indicates Interface: Down. I thought this was probably a firmware upgrade issue but can only find v1.01.03 which is already installed. Linksys website has no firmware listed for download.
I have downloaded and re-installed the v1.01.03 .img file with no effect. Is this the latest firmware for this model?
The subject syas it all really, I've spent all evening trying to get this to work, firmware is now on 1.01.05 and still no luck. Maybe it just doesn't support it?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an old router linksys WAG54GS and now with my new internet connection gave me a HUAWEI 530.I'm still using linksys.So i wanted to connect the HUAWEI on the Linksys cause it has an external button for wireles, which Linksys doesnt.I followed the wizard you wrote.The DHCP off on the HUAWEI Different IP.So the Wired LAN worked fine, having an IP from the Linksys, but the wireless doesnt get one..I tried a lot of things on the huawei, nat off etc but nothing On the linksys i give on DHCP IPs from 192.168.1.105 - 7.I tried connect the netbook but only wired worked, not even my cellphone.

View 2 Replies View RelatedUp until recently (4 months ago) my network was fine. However, all of a sudden the network began to drop randomly. Now, the network drops about every 30 mins. Its quite an inconvenience, especially as there are two laptops, a desktop and 2 games consoles running off of the network (not all at once though). I have a Belkin Wireless G Plus MIMO router.

I´m monitoring the total number of concurrent sessions of my ACE 20 (using Cacti), and from time to time, with no discernable pattern, I see an instant drop of sessions to half...I don´t detect any disturbance with our traffic and service, I have no complaints, but it's a very accentuated drop.
I´m able to get 1 or 2 days withouth any suddent drop of connections, and then for no reason I pass from 500.000 to 200.000 sessions in a minute. Then they gradually go up again.
I´ve seen in ACE´s session table that she keeps a great number of half-open, or closed sessions, and those are counted as part of concurrent sessions. Is there any flush on ACE´s table when she reaches a certain number of closed TCP sessions or something like that?
I have several E4200 routers deployed in our library district. In one branch, we have been having sporadic problems with computers not being able to maintain a connection. Typically the computer will connect and then the connection will drop and Windows will display the yellow error triangle on the wifi signal strength display.I have swapped the router with another brand new E4200 with the latest firmware but am still having this problem.

However, now it is denying me connection to the outside world about once a day. It is getting an ip, even if I am renewing the IP address.I am using it on my Fullrate broadband 20/2 connection, and I can at most get 1mbit UL, but with the old router, I could get 2.1mbit. I bought this one because the other one sucked (the standard from my ISP).I have set the router up as the old one was, however, it is still slow, and now it also needs reset every day.

I'm pretty new to networking. Purchased a E4200 for my home line. When i connect directly through the modem i see speeds of about 600mbps but when i connect through the router via an ethernet cable on an empty port on the back of my e4200 my speeds drop to about 180mbps. I expected a speed loss going through wireless but why i am experiencing a speed loss by using the ethernet as a passthrough? I thought the ethernet ports on the e4200 were gigabit and support up to 1000mbps?

I've had problems with my current wireless PCI card in my desktop; it would drop the signal rather frequently and even make my router need a power recycle. . I don't know how that is even possible. Anyway I think it has to do with my PCI slot since I tested the card in another computer and it seems to work well.
That being the case I would like to get a PCI-express x1 wireless card. Or is it better to go usb? Wireless G is what I'm using currently. The desktop wireless space seems kind of lucrative. .
I had a surfboard 4200 (motorola) and it worked fine for quite a few years but the speed would drop down for some reason every now and then (majory, from 250 KB/s to 50 KB/s). I bought a CM100 linksys but when I plug it all in it never finds the signal, the motorola still connects fine. I had the ISP delete my modem profile but it still wont connect, it wont even find the signal.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've bought X3000 modem recently & the only issue is pops up for me is wifi signal is too low. I've got 2 routers with me. My old linksys router WAG200G has got no issues with wifi signal. I kept both routers at the same place & compared with same standard channel yet what astonishing me that WAG200G has got more stability than X3000 regardless inspite changing to wireless -N. Is there a way to solve it. Btw, I tried all the standard channels yet it doesn't make any difference.

I'm facing a strange problem here with my WAG54G2 gateway. I've got a very bad connection when the signal strength is 2 out of 5 or less. I tested the DL and UL speed via url...and gives me hardly 1 Mb/s even though I have 10Mb ADSL connection. With wired and wireless connection with 3 out of 5 or more I got 8.7 Mb DL from the mentioned website.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a linksys router WAG 120n and when using wireless if I move into the next room the signal strength goes down to 40% there is only one single wall in between the room and the router. I have upgraded the firmware to the latest version turned off other electrical devices changed the wireless channels but none of this has worked. Any more settings I can try to get the signal stronger, I really don't want to return the router unless completely necessary.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI live in a block of flats I decided to buy a proper router on 5GHz. I can see at least 12 wireless networks and all of them on 2.4GHz(mostly BT HomeHubs or other UK ISP wireless boxes). I study CCNA and our teachers recommend cisco routers(linksys) as the best ones. I bought a WAG320N as the best one I could find in the UK market for a fair price. The problem is, that I have less signal on 5GHz than on 2.4GHz. I have maximum 50% of signal on 5GHz and speed is usually below 802.11g, means below 64Mbps! I can't believe it. When I change it to 2.4GHz the signal has up to 80% like my old router TP-Link. The speed is mostly up to 65Mbps, means terrible. I have seen lots of topics about this particular router but I couldn't believe that Cisco sell such awful and unreliable products like this router. I have tried to change the channels on 5 and 2.4GHz but it's always the same, poor speed and low signal. My wireless card is Intel WifiLink 6200 Advanced -N and operating systems Windows 7 and Sabayon linux. I have a laptop and it is cca 6 metres from the router and there are 2 walls. The router is still under warranty so I won't hesitate to return it back to PCWorld.

When I set up the router to work on the internet when I first bought it (several years ago), something must have gone wrong in the installation because it works only when connected to the computer by the lead, and NOT wirelessly.
While this is fine for general internet browsing etc on the main computer, my problem now is that I cannot connect anything else to it (such as my Playstation 3) because the router does not work wirelessly and I do not have the WPA key that the PS3 asks for. Is there any way can fix this without doing a complete reset on the router?

I've noticed something interesting, after having been disconnected from the WLAN in less than 1 minute in my first experience with this Linksys' Modem Router: The signal strength was poor when browsing the Wireless LAN. I was at home, in a room just beside the one where the router was placed at.So, I took a look at connection status, and saw the signal strength was Medium - Weak: something around 30% and 55% You could think it was due to mirrors, the kind of walls between the rooms, and everything else, but I instantly remembered when browsing WLAN from the same place but not with the same router, the signal was strong (100%)...but I let it alone In the other day, while browsing WLAN, I've noticed another thing, this time visible: "TX power" I've got in connection status was 39mW, while I was almost sure it should be 100mW, based on my past WLAN connections Then, today I decided to take a look more deeply in that, and unboxed my Linksys' WRT54G to test. The test was carried on consisting in both Wireless routers placed in the same room, and a solid wall was between me and the routers.I could connect to the two WLANs, but the status of connections were different.

As you can see, when connecting to WRT54G , signal reached 100% at some point, whereas in WAG120N , such a mark wasn't possible.Of course, the signal strength was unstable in both routers, but the average level in WRT54G WLAN was greater, being most of time over 90%, and never below 80%.In WAG120N WLAN, average was 82%, and lowest level was 55%.When I went to the room where the routers were at, and right in front of them, no need to say both reached 100%, but as you can see, in WAG120n's case, TX power was still 39mw: I believe it's a firmware fault, once all other routers I've connected to always showed TX power as being 100mW.It shoundn't be related to the general hardware, as Cisco products are high-quality ones.
I have a Linksys WRT120N plugged directly into my cable modem upstairs, an 8 port switch plugged into it, an ethernet cable from it run downstairs in my house to another 8 port switch and a Linksys E4200 plugged into it. I want both routers to allow me to connect to the internet wirelessly if possible. I cannot even access the E4200 from a browser, because the IP adress 192.168.1.1 goes directly to the WRT120N.

Now we can only browse the internet via a cable from the pc lan port to the router ethernet port. Things done :- Secure easy setup button held down for 10 seconds. Router went to an unsecured one now back to secure.
