Cisco WAN :: Current Heat Dissipation Of High End Routers And Switches 7600 / 6500
Sep 12, 2006
Is there any commands to know the Current Heat Dissipation of high end routers and switches 7600,6500? Even though we can calculate thro. corresponding calculators, i eager to know is there any commands to do that?

how is calculated heat dissipation of ethernet modules for c6500? For example, heat dissipation of WS-X6908-10G-2T - 2083.32 BTU/hour.. This heat dissipation of the empty module, without transceivers? Or including all installed transceivers?

I am trying to figure out what is heat dissipation of a C6509-E configured as follows:
1 x WS-C6509-E-FAN
1 x VS-S720-10G-3C
1 x VS-F6K-PFC3C
8 x WS-X6748-GE-TX
8 x WS-F6700-DFC3C
2 x WS-CAC-6000W
I have tried two ways: 1) the power calculator and 2) manual calculation using the C6500 installation guide.
1) The power calculator says 13630 BTU/h
2) Manual calculation says: [code]
The there should be also the two PS in the picture, and the new total should be: [code] Well, 62711 BTU/h looks quite a bit too much and I think that the heat dissipation of the power supply should't be considered in the calculation.Isn't it an item that takes power from the grid and that generates heat according to its efficiency as the other modules?

I have an issue with 7600 router where CPU goes up to 60-70% and memory is also high. Both due to BGP Router process. [URL] According to our baseline it should not be more than 40% at any given time. We see high CPU uptp 70% consistently.

Router has 1 eBGP session with ISP from where it downloads whole IPv4 internet routing table and two IBGP session with other two rotuer. When I look at BGP summary table I see many updates received from ISP and sent out to IBGP neighbors. Also did debug BGP updates to confirm it.
We are seeing this issue since ISP has upgraded their router 20 days ago. Router also seen following error.

I am a little stuck trying to troubleshoot unusually high cpu on 7600 Platform. This has been going on for many hours and not been causing a problem, but this doesn't seem replicated in our network and I am concerned about the cause.I have attached some output below, and disabled netflow on interfaces to free some switching CPU. How to track the cause of this? We only have routing protocols and 5 static routes to Null 0, so I cant see how this can be a route loop, but willing to stand corrected. Routes are learned from BGP with OSPF/MPLS internally on the network. This switch also connects to access switches on RIP and EIGRP.
No change has been made to this device when this problem started to occur so I am suspecting something about the traffic has changed or there is a rougue user? [code]

What is used DDR memory on DFC on linecards for Cisco 7600 or Catalyst6500? I thought that DFC has copy of TCAMs from PFC. That PFC only has TCAMs, and it doesn't have DRAM on itself?
I've been said that if I have full BGP table in memory on supervisor on 6500 (that should be DRAM on RP on MSFC) that I also need 1GB additional memory on DFC on linecards? Is this true? But that should implied that DFC also has copy from MSFC not only from PFC, is this correct?

I'm attempting to create an erspan session between a Nexus 5000 and 6500 to get traffic from a FEX interface on the 5000 over to a sniffer off of the 6500. The Nexus and 6500 are directly connected with a 10G link, but I added a separate 1G link between the two for the erpsan traffic. I created a routed interface on the 6500, and and SVI on the Nexus. The Erspan session came up, and looked ok from both sides, but as soon as we got a burst of traffic this morning the CPU on the 6500 spiked to 99%. I used 'debug netdr capture rx' to determine the traffic was coming in from the erspan port and subsequently shut down the new interface on the 6500. why this caused a CPU spike? Here are the relevant configs from each device:
Nexus:
vrf context NetOps!
interface Vlan123
no shutdown

I am using a Catalyst 7600.
I set up a VLAN interface (VLAN 3) with an IP-address and I can connect to it using telnet and log in to the switch as admin.I call this my management interface.
How come I manage to log into the management interface when the native VLAN is default 1? I thought the native VLAN determines which VLAN I need to log into to access the switch?
Can I make management interfaces of all the 48 ports if I want?

Having just installed a new RV180W router for a customer last week, I am beginning to regret my decision to to go with this model. Issues are as follows:
1. Users connecting via VPN can not browse web or receive email until the disconnect from the VPN.
2. Internal users experiencing very slow web site access and page lockups (speed test shows a good 15MB connection rate)
3. No clear setup for an isolated 'guest' WiFi network.
All of this happened as soon as I replaced the old, stable RV042 with the new RV180W.

What consequences could i have if i install a WiSM-2 module into a pair of 6500 configured in VSS and another WiSM-2 module into other pair of 6500 configured in VSS for serving a 300 APs??...in this case, do i need to configure mobility groups for guarantee a high availability and also redundancy of controllers?Under the best practices, is much better having the two WiSM-2 modules into a single pair of 6500 configured in VSS??

Why do some versions have heatsinks and others don't? The HP branded cards EH352AA always seem to have the heatsink, but very few Intel branded cards have it. I'm talking about the single port NICs - all dual+ port cards have the heatsink.

I am seeing a strange situation on my 6500 switch?By having snmp walk on '1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.109.1.1.1.1.3' (== cpmCPUTotal5sec), I came to know that there are two processor and the cpu util for switching processor is gone to 88 % and some time creeps to 99 %.
snmpwalk -v2c -c "removes" sw6500 '1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.109.1.1.1.1.3'
SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.9.9.109.1.1.1.1.3.1 = Gauge32: 12 (--- this is for CPU of Router Processor )
SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.9.9.109.1.1.1.1.3.3 = Gauge32: 99 (--- this is for CPU of Switching Processor )
but when I do sh process cpu on the console, all looks normal as it shows cpu utilization of RP. why the value is so high on the switching processor ?
