Cisco WAN :: 7204VXR NPE-G1 - 100% CPU With OC3 Module?
Aug 23, 2012i bought new RF Cisco 7204VXR NPE-G1. As soon i enable OC3 module ( PA-POS-OC3SMI) CPU of the router shoot to 100%, and if i reboot the router, it wont comeback not even on Console. I had to remove the POS card and then boot router and then hot insert the module.
so i put the command
int pos 4/0
loopback internal
as soon igave this command, CPU dropped down to normal. Whats the deal here? now i need to activate the circuit on this POS interface, but as soon i remove loopback internal command , CPU shoots to 100% Although CPU sorted dont show any process causing it.

Cisco WAN :: 7204VXR NPE-G2 Hanging When Adding Vlan?
Oct 26, 2011I'm running (C7200P-ADVENTERPRISEK9-M), Version 12.4(24)T4, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc2) on a Cisco 7204VXR (NPE-G2). Currently, the router has about 200 VLANs configured on dot1q subinterfaces.
Now, the router hangs everytime we try to add a new Vlan.
Is there a well-known bug with the IOS version?

Jul 29, 2012Why my OC3 interface is showing increasing output drops its starts happening as soon traffic exceed 60Mbps ( FYI my traffic never exceeded 75Mbps MAX, and circuit is 150Mbps from carrier , full OC3)

Dec 12, 2011what I have are 2 x 7204VXR (Gateways), 1 x 4507R-E (Coreswitch), and our ISP have 7609.Got some issues with redundancy with our ISP.

Both outside interfaces of 7204 gateways are connecting to 7609 with different public ip block.I used VRRP for my internal nework and failover have been tested working.Even tried to remove link of 7204-A and 7609, the failover works perfect.But somehow we're facing a problem:
- If I shutdown/ remove the link between my 4507R-E and 7204-A (primary gw_higher vrrp priority), vrrp redundancy/failover still works but internal network's internet connection goes down.
I asked our ISP and the route commands they put in their 7609 are as of follows:
ip route 3.8.8.0 255.255.255.0 3.4.4.4 name TO CUSTOMER LINK 1
ip route 3.8.8.0 255.255.255.0 3.3.3.3 2 name TO CUSTOMER LINK 2
And if they're trying to use Reliable Static Routing Backup Using Object Tracking, the internal network's internet connections is intermittent....alternate 4 ping reply and 4 timeout.

Feb 10, 2012When the router boots up, the boot loader keeps telling me it does not recognize the card and wait until it fully boots to see the revision on the card, but I can not see the revision on the card because it is unrecognized.
What boot loader I need to get the 7204 to recognize the card?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Ignored And Overrun Packets On 7204VXR?
Feb 21, 2012I am seeing packets being ignored on GigabitEthernet0/0, but can't find any reason what the reason can be for that. So far calculated that about 3% of the traffic is being ignored. If it was caused by shortage of input buffers, I would expect to see increasing counters somewhere at no_buffer, but that is not the case. The average txload and rxload on the router is low all times.

Nov 8, 2011I want to get the result of the following command with snmp. Is This possible?
The command is "show extended channel 2/0 csna oper". I need to know, if the status is "closed" or "setupcomplete". Can I catch these values with snmp?
I did a snmpwalk but can´t find any lines with these values. Is there a specific IOS version necessary?The hardware is a Cisco 7204VXR with IOS 12.1(5)T10 and microcode xcpa28-1

Oct 13, 2011Today I've received reports of slow internet access/activity and have noticed myself that it seems a bit slow today. On the dashboard of our asa 5510 the "outside interface" traffic usage is running constantly high. It's at the top of the graph. How can I tell what is causing the spike in utilization. It usually runs at about 1500-2000 Kbps, and now it's up over 10,000.

Nov 26, 2012We installed a solution with 2 Cisco 2801, BGP multihomed failover.
1) The router which is currently getting all the traffic gets to 55% to 60% of CPU usage when handling 40 SIP/RTP streams . This equals 10Mbit up/10Mbit down and it showed around 5800 packets TX and around 5800 packets RX, with a majority of them CEF switched. As those figures are way less than the performance figures published by Cisco, we wonder if we made any mistake in setting up our router, or if we can do something to improve the router setup.
2) Does it have an impact on router performance if we increase/decrease RTP packet size, thus increasing or decreasing the pps relative to the consumed bandwidth?
3) If it is not possible to improve router configuration, we also wonder about possible replacement units for those routers. Would a 2901 do a good job? By how much would it rise the capacity? What other models would you recommend if we plan to rise the number of concurrent calls by a factor of 4 or even 8 times of what we have now (so up to 48000 pps and 80Mbit).
Here is what we tried:
- ip route-cache same-interface does not seem to improve anything
- ip flow ingress on or off makes no difference
- disabling the inbound ACL on fa0/0 seems to reduce load by 10%, although I don't understand why - a very high percentage is CPU interrupts, and ACLs are process switched, or not?
- we tried following the Cisco guide for high CPU due to high interrupts, with no success
Here are some usage statistics:
The graphs that we plot via SNMP show a propotional growth/increase of CPU and bandwidth (and thus pps) At the highest loads, we had a bit more than 55% CPU utilization with more than 50% interrupt CPU.

Nov 3, 2012I recently moved from an old apartment in Downtown Montreal, to a suburb area, but still close to where I was before (10 km). I am using the same ISP provider, Videotron. The same speed. I was playing this game, Chivalry Medieval warfare, perfectly fine before, but now something is really wrong. Whenever I join a server, my ping skyrockets up to close to 200, sometimes drifting to 130 but never going below... and often rising back up again.Keep in mind that I filter servers by their pings. I only join servers that display a low ping (although often I won't see any, when I refresh.. there they are). I'll see a server with 30 ping, join it, and be at 200.It's entirely unplayable. Not only is it impossible to properly time parries anymore, but I also get a lot of rubberbanding. I've tested the internet here, and the speeds are accurate. 10 mbps down, 1 mbps up. I am connected to a Linksys E1200 router. I've tried everything I can possibly think of.I went into the router setup, disabled the firewall, added myself to a DMZ, tried to forward every port... rebooted the modem, my computer, the router, tried a different Ethernet cable.. nothing is working. It's very depressing. Nothing has changed on my own computer in the move. I also notice there is a delay of a second or so before I start to load a webpage when I click a link.

Jan 19, 2010I have a Router 2821 with c2800nm-advipservicesk9-mz.124-24.T1.bin and with a Cisco Integrated Service Engine(s) Cisco Unity Express 7.1.1 in slot 1 , this router shows a high cpu utilization.I think is a bug with the IOS , because there is no voicemail configured on the CUE, there is no traffic to the CUE , just traffic from:
- voice calls
- ospf
The ospf is not the cause of the high cpu , because the high cpu utilization appears before I put the ospf proccess on the router.

I have vlans like voice vlan and others, I have one 20 Mb Wan Link and I redirect all traffic from my lan to this link and when i browse in internet or i do downloads the router goes to 98%, when i don't make it the router processes goes down.
I thought be problem with hardware, but i exchange to another router and the same problem happened.Before this situation, I had one link with 12 Mb and nothing happened, when i exchange this to the 20 mb link the problems starting.

On average it's 40% during the day, but once traffic picks up to around 6000 packets per second, the router is gone...I have a 50/50 Mbps connection, but I can use only 6 for VoIP ?

I have not found any particular process causing this high CPU utilization as it is caused due to interrupts. I have already enabled fast switching by "ip cef" command. Please suggest how to normalize the utilization as it is impacting the network and causing slowness. Jul 29, 2012We have a 7206 router which acts as a MPLS Hub router for around 100+ remote locations. Bandwidh at mpls hub(terminated on this router) is 50 Mbps.
We have noticed that Memory utilization in this router gradually increases and when it reaches 100% this router hangs. It happence in frequesncy of 10 days and we have to restart the router when memory is 100%.
CPU utilization is normal i.e below 20%, WAN bandwidth will never cross 30mbps.
We are running OSPF on this router

Router has 1 eBGP session with ISP from where it downloads whole IPv4 internet routing table and two IBGP session with other two rotuer. When I look at BGP summary table I see many updates received from ISP and sent out to IBGP neighbors. Also did debug BGP updates to confirm it.
We are seeing this issue since ISP has upgraded their router 20 days ago. Router also seen following error.

Apr 5, 2011I have a 3640a, 3550 and airopoint 350 I use for my home internet connection. I know it's old equipment, but it's all I could afford at the time. Directly plugged into my modem I get about 10 mb/s, plugged into a switch port no greater than 6, and about 5-6 when connected to wireless which is understandable because it's only wireless B. I'm going to downgrade my connection for the time being as I'm paying for excess bandwidth that I'm unable to use, but any more recent, affordable cisco routers that can handle a high speed cable connection? What kind of throughput does the 3550 get? Cisco states a throughput of approximately 45-60mb/s for the 3640a.

Sep 24, 2012I have a 2811 Router that is experiencing high CPU utilization. I have already issued the "show cpu proc" command, and everything seems to be fine (it's not a process issue) . According to our traffic graphs, we've seen that CPU is related to high link utilization, since we have 2 Fast Ethernet interfaces (Internet 4 MB and MPLS 6 MB), and when those interfaces have to deal with a lot of traffic at some hours, the CPU Load increases in the Router.
I found an article where they say that 2811 ISR Routers can deal with up to 61,44 Mbps (120.000 pps), but our router is far away from reaching that limit.It usually manages up to 16 MBPS. This router manages some services such as NAT traslation, ACLs, voice traslation profiles, policy routing (QoS), firewall and DHCP.
What can be happening to the router?.. Is it normal that when it has to process a lot of traffic, its cpu must increase up to 95%, even if it is handling just 16 MB compared to the theorical 61 MB? Is there any command or tool that I could use to troubleshoot this issue? Is there any limit in terms of WAN traffic that it could handle? How much influence do those services have over CPU Utilization?
Given these incidents, which router series could suit better in my network to avoid high CPU issues?
High Ping At Nights With Belkin Router
Jun 3, 2012I have a Belkin N Wireless Router Model: F5D8236-4 v3 with the latest firmware my problem at nights i have high pings around 200 ms especially when playing online games. This is only at nights.I tried connecting my computer directly to the modem and it doesn't cause any trouble so im assuming the router is the problem.I have 3 computers wired connected to the router. I was the only one using the network when i was doing the tests so i don't think the others computers are causing the problem. My computer is running Windows 7 SP1 and the router wireless and my antivirus firewall are off.

Jan 25, 2013I have been having a high ping issue both via a cable and wireless. When i connect via wireless, it is generally 2 ms, sometimes goes up to 4 and 5 and rarely i get packet losses. Via a cable, i get usually 1 ms, and sometimes 2 ms. It generates a problem while online gaming and btw i tried changing channels and it didnt work. I even get same pings when i am 3 meters away from the router compared to less than 1 ms pings.

Dec 31, 2012I've came across a very odd topology to deal with where everything is connected to everything, without proper utilization of VLANs.
- I've an L3 SW and a 3745 RTR at core
- Both are carrying same subnet to an L2 distribution switch that connects server farm within the same subnet (i.e. 1.1.3.x subnet)
- The L2 switch works as a passive switch, hence another network say, 1.1.2.x has been plugged into it as well.
- This L2 switch extends to other switches without configuration of any VLANs or STP and distributes 1.1.3.x network.
Periodically and unexpectedly, the router starts hanging and utilization goes beyond 80%, and there's nothing at all that is observed in "sh proc cpu" to be eating router resources. Its quite difficult to observe the pattern, as its random.
