Cisco WAN :: Network Slow Down With DmVPN Tunnel On 2811 Router?
May 15, 2013
We are facing network heavy and slow performance at one of our remote site, we are using Cisco2800 series router with same IOS on either of the sites. Our WAN network is running on BGP with EIGRP configured and tunnels were configured on either of the sites. As part of the testing I have removed the tunnel to see the performance was ok from Head office to remote branch and the WAN network is getting heavy and slow down when we put the tunnel back in hub and spoke.

I´m trying to config a wccp web-proxy in a ISR 2811 at branch network. I have an Iron Port at Head-Quarter.
The idea is that the users at branch network, transparently forward http traffic to Iron Port at Central-Office and from them go to Internet.
The communication between sites is over DMVPN. I have two GRE tunnels running OSPF.
The Iron Port is configured as wccp v2 transparent redirection with forwarding method L2 or GRE an retunr method as L2 or GRE.
I receive packets on the branch router "Here I Am" but it get a message on debug:

setting up IPsec for a DMVPN between a 2811 and 2951s in a test lab. I have enabled IPsec on the hub (2811) but I am unable to do so on either of the 2951s. After researching, it seems that I may have the incorrect IOS for this, but I am at a loss which IOS I should be using. Currently the 2951s are on "c2951-universalk9-mz.SPA.151-2.T2.bin" and the only crypto options are(config)#crypto ?
ca Certification authority
key Long term key operations
pki Public Key components
while on the 2811 I get:
WIN-T(config)#crypto ?
ca Certification authority
call Configure Crypto Call Admission Control
ctcp Configure cTCP encapsulation
dynamic-map Specify a dynamic crypto map template
engine Enter a crypto engine configurable menu
gdoi Configure GDOI policy

These are all hand me downs?

We have about 200 spokes (2811 routers), each one connected to two hubs(7206VXR with NPE-G2) via a separate DMVPN. DMVPN is over MPLS cloud provided by the local operator. On the hubs we get very frequently these type of messages
.Feb 9 16:00:10.402: %DUAL-5-NBRCHANGE: IP-EIGRP(0) 200: Neighbor 10.X.X.X (Tunnel3) is down: Interface Goodbye received.Feb 9 16:00:11.658: %DUAL-5-NBRCHANGE: IP-EIGRP(0) 200: Neighbor 10.X.X.X (Tunnel3) is up: new adjacency
On the spoke

I think the default eigrp hello and holding timers (5,15) are not suitable since these are wan links.

i have a general Question regarding buildings SA´s between two peers. Can I establish more than one SA between two Peers with the same IP Address?Actually I have 3 DMVPN´s running in parallel in different VRF´s using the same SA.They have all the same IPSEC encryption AES256.Now I need to reduce the encryption to 3DES in one of the three DMVPN´s.Is that possible or do I need a differnet IP Address so that the SA Pair is unique?Thats how I stared, with a Phase 2 failure that it is not acceptable.

We have a 6 spoke DMVPN setup. Five of the six spokes work fine. On the 6th spoke, a 2911, we have created a Tunnel0. Other spokes and the hubs can ping it's ip, but it can't ping itself. When we do a show interface it shows the Tunnel 0 is up, but the protocol is down. What does that mean?

So in our DMVPN network, we have this Cisco 3845 hub router that is connected via a DS3 to the Internet, and our spoke sites usually have a broadband connection that typically have a maximum of 1Mbps upload capacity. We are getting ready to add a few more sites to our network that are connected to the Internet with 10Mbps upload speeds (and 50Mbps download). Spoke site routers are usually 800 series ISRs. We have seen spikes of 8-10Mbps on the hub router so far. So the question is that a site with 10Mbps upload speed transmit to the full capacity over a DMVPN tunnel or is it limited by other factors? What are those factors?

I am having a hard time trying to configure DMVPN with the tunnel being sourced via a loopback interface. All routers are Cisco 886 routers which don't have L3 ports. That is why I used SVI interfaces, and have configured the L2 ports (Fa0, Fa1, etc.) with the command switchport access vlan. The problem is that I am receiving Invalid SPI error's only on the Hub router and I have no clue what could be the problem, because they use exactly the same parameters for IPsec. One of the customers has deployed Cisco 7609S in their infrastructure for Branch/RO connectivity. When we tried to configure per-tunnel QoS with DMVPN for MPLS connected sites, we came to know that Cat 6500 and Cisco 7600 series routers don't support this feature.
Now, we are looking for suitable replacement of Cisco 7609S. I found a document for configuring above feature on Cisco ASR 1000 series routers, but it has many restrictions always.
We are now looking for
(a) suitable platform in the league of Cisco 7609S which support above feature.
(b) suitable technology replacement of DMVPN with minimum restrictions.

I am trying to spec out some routers for a small DMVPN network.I was thinking 2801's for my hub routers.will these run DMVPN out of the box or do they need additional hardware modules?according to the below linkyou need a "AIM-VPN/SSL-2" module in order for it to work, but then according to"The Cisco 2800 Series supports IPSec Digital Encryption Standard (DES), Triple DES (3DES), Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) 128, AES 192, and AES 256 cryptology without consuming an AIM slot."

I'm seeing on an IOS VPN Tunnel interface which keeps going down and then back up...
We have a Cisco 2811 acting as a VPN Hub router on the backbone, which connects to various client sites over VPN. Of the 7 VPNs configured so 6 work well and are generally trouble free. The VPN interface on the other VPN keeps going down ,multiple times throughout the day, just recently the client has been noticing loss of connectivity. The remote router is managed over the VPN so there is always some kind of traffic over it.

ISP on each circuit cannot provide more than 3MB, so soon will get three circuit each of 3MB. ISP recommends to terminate all the links on Layer2 switch and have a trunk to the Router. I need all experts opinion on this proposed setup. We currently got 2811 with two GigaEthernet ports. We plan to have three GRE over IPSEC Tunnels (One tunnel for each circuit) to load balance/load Share/redundancy.

Amoung 2 ethernet interface ,one is using for LAN and one is for WAN. In WAN part , we have configured mGRE (Tunnel1 and Tunnel 2)by creating sub-interface of the router. From the interface ,we terminating the link to MPLS cloud from there its pointing towards our core router. From End router we are advertising the path through EIGRP and from the cloud BGP advertisied to the core router.[code]

I recently inherited a small network. There is an existing 1.5mbps Internet connection (fa0/0) (includes MPLS as well/same provider). We added a new ISP that allows for 50mb down/5mb up. I added the new ISP to fa0/1 and modified the NAT overload statements accordingly. I alo changed the default route to ONLY use the new, faster ISP connection. Using speedguide.net, I am only able to get 6 to 10mb down, most of the time. if I plug a laptop into the cable modem then I get 37 to 50mb down. Why the 2811 is so slow?
I have attached the config and various show outputs (nat, sh ver, memory, etc.). the file called "latest logs" contains a "sh ip traffic, sh int switching and a sh proc cpu sorted". [code]

I have my router connected to my ISP, but for some reason I am getting really slow internet connection compared to a home Linksys router. I can only think it may be to the fact my port is set to auto speed and auto duplex.
Sometime the websites are fast, other times slow. Cannot seem to pinpoint the reason since my code is so basic.

I´ve added the new tunnel in the same way as the other tunnels, that is thorugh ASDM vpn wizzard.

I am experiencing slow throughput on a L2L IPsec tunnel that we have between one of our offices on the west coast (WC) US and another on the east coast (EC) US. The tunnel endpoint on the WC resides on a 5510 and a 5545x on the EC. The DIA circuit speed on the WC is 45 Mbps and 200 Mbps on the EC. The throughput of this IPsec tunnel is maxing out at approx. 4 – 5 Mbps. The utilization of the DIA circuits at both offices is under 5% when running various FTP test transfers. Both devices have low memory and CPU utilization.
We have a 2nd office on the EC (45 Mbps DIA) which I built a tunnel on a 5510 with the WC office and it is experiencing the same slow throughput. In covering all my bases we have a colocation facility on the WC and in building a tunnel between the 2 WC offices I WAS seeing close to full line rate speeds over the tunnel. Additionally, I built a tunnel between the 2 EC offices and I saw full line rate speeds. With the physical distance between the WC & EC offices I would expect some loss in throughput speeds but I would not expect it to drop as low as 4 – 5 Mbps. In thinking something may be up with the 5510 in our WC office we shipped a 5505 to the WC office and we built the same IPsec tunnels on it and it is experiencing the same.
In working with our support vendor to try and solve the WC <-> EC throughput issue they had me change the MTU, TCP mss, DF-bit, types of encryption/hash on the IPsec tunnel but nothing has resolved it. We are not showing fragmentation or PMTU issues on the tunnel. In contacting the ISP of our WC office they mentioned that they do not have any type or rate limiting in place. Our WC ISP had a CCIE review our configurations but nothing was found.

There use to be Cisco 851 routers, but lately these routers are replaced with Cisco 861-K9 routers, and these 861 routers doesn't support DMVPN, instead 851 use to be.
Is there any license file we can upload in 861 router for DMVPN capability, if yes may i know the SKU # for that. We have some customers having 6-7 locations and they are planning to have 2 more locations, we implement already DMVPN in there network, if we go with the 87X or 88X router there price is almost double the price of 861.

- NAT Traversal
- IP Compresion
- Dead Pear Detection
How can I troubleshot this slow performance?

We have ASA 5540. We setup Site-to-Site VPN and Remote Access VPN (Cisco VPN client). If are running full tunnel on the Cisco VPN client, the internet access is slow. For example, when we are running full-tunnel, the internet speed is 16 Mbps based on Speedtest.net. When we go to Speedtest.net, some of the graphics do not load. If we are running Split-tunnel, the internet access speed is 78 Mbps based on Speedtest.net and the Speedtest.net web site loads all the graphics.

What router would you choose to setup 1500 dmvpn tunnels (mGRE/ipsec)? so this router will be my hub and the hub will have 1500 tunnels.this router with this many tunnels will have to be able to provide excellent service to all spokes/tunnels.the spokes will mainly use the tunnels for business, transfering small files and some email I would say they may transfer 500megabyte of data per day but that's the absolute maximum.

Trying to setup a DMVPN on out existing equipment that is currently running all point to point vpn connections. basicly its not working. my best guess is something with the config is interfering but i'm not sure the remote router (881) is always comming back with MM_NO_STATE and the main router(2901) is either MM_NO_STATE or MM_SETUP.
I added the config for the 881, 2901 and a debug crypto isakmp and debug crypto ipsec from both routers. I have verified the Keys are correct and it is not blocking port 500. if i issue a sh crypto isakmp policy they are the same on both routers. if you need me to post anything else i will, one note i removed the configs that were part of the point to point tunnls on the 2901 router.
