Cisco Wireless :: 1230AG Not Able To Stay Joined To Controller

Feb 21, 2012

I have multiple 1230AG wireless access point in autonomous mode that I am migrating to lightweight mode so that a 4402 controller can manage them. I already migrated 4 of those APs with no problems using the Upgrade Tool version 3.4 and now I have one that just refused to upgrade version.

I ran the upgrade tool for this AP alone with the same parameters as others. It is now on lightweight version 12.3.7-JX9 The upgrade procedure went smoothly, the SSC was created on the AP and added to the authorised list on the controller. The AP boots up, gets an IP by DHCP, tries the controller via DNS, gets to it. It joins it then disconnects. Its FastEthernet interface keeps doing down/up every 90 seconds or so.

In my controller logs I see:
*SNMPTask: Feb 22 19:39:17.135: %LWAPP-3-INVALID_SLOT: spam_api.c:711 Invalid slot identifier (0) - ; AP 00:13:.........

Cisco Wireless :: LAP1041N Cannot Stay Connected To WLAN Controller

Feb 27, 2011

Just bought two new LAP1041N APs to add to a dead spot on our campus.  Well when trying to set them up the will not stay connected to the WLAN Controller (model 4402).  The new APs boot fine, and will even appear in the controller for brief moments, but after a few seconds they dissapear and start showing the discovery status light pattern (green, red, amber). Just wondering if I am doing something wrong with these APs, or what the issue could possible be.We have 10 other APs that as soon as we connected to network were detected by controller and we configured from there.  Most of those are 1010 or 1020s, we have a few 1131s and 1100s.

Cisco Wireless :: 1230AG Is There A Good Antenna Which Will Do Both Floors

Apr 10, 2012

I have a small building which has two levels. I have a 1230 on the top floor and about 10 people. Below that floor is another office with 10 people. They don't all use wireless, infact its only used for guests and smartphones, tablets of which there aren't many.I was wondering instead of sticking another unit in the downstairs office, Can I either use two anntenna's, one on each floor connected to the one controller or is there a good antenna which will do both floors? The floor is concrete, I have one antenna attached to the right hand connector of the 1230 and can get 2 or 3 bars in the lower office. Thou as its a flat antenna this doesn't cover the part of the office directly beneath it.

Cisco Wireless :: Bridge Joined By WAP 4410n For Access Point

Oct 21, 2012

I wonder if I can join via the WAP 4410n Bridge and also work as Access-point at a time. The idea is that you can connect to a router that provides Internet service that makes access-point bridge and connect to another WAP 4410n which would be another single access point for wireless bridge.

Cisco :: Newly Joined Computer To Request IP Address From MAC?

Mar 13, 2012

RARP (Reverse Address Resolution Protocol) is a protocol by which a physical machine in a local area network can request to learn its IP address from a gateway server's Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) table or cache. A network administrator creates a table in a local area network's gateway router that maps the physical machine (or Media Access Control - MAC address) addresses to corresponding Internet Protocol addresses. When a new machine is set up, its RARP client program requests from the RARP server on the router to be sent its IP address. Assuming that an entry has been set up in the router table, the RARP server will return the IP address to the machine which can store it for future use.Among the passage of words i read, there was this sentence i were not sure, "A network administrator creates a table in a local area network's gateway router that maps the physical machine (or Media Access Control - MAC address) addresses to corresponding Internet Protocol addresses." Does it means each time a host computer joins in the ethernet LAN, the network administrator would manually add in it's MAC address in the router table, so it would allow the newly joined computer to request IP address from it's MAC address?

Cisco AAA/Identity/Nac :: ACS 5.2 Joined AD / Authorizing User Through Internal OK?

Apr 23, 2011

My ACS5.2 joined Windows 2003 Active Directory successfully. I created Support group with user1 in the internal store, also created Support-AD group with userad1 in the AD store. Identity Store Sequency is set Internal first, then AD. I can map Support-AD group to the local Support group without any problem.

Internal user gets authenticated and authorized OK. However, if the user is an AD user, the rule for AD users is not picked. So it goes to default.

Cisco Wireless :: 4404 Guest Anchor Controller With 5508 Foreign Controller?

Aug 12, 2012

I know that the 3600 series APs are not supported on the 4404 WLC.  However, would the following scenario be supported? I would like to use the 4404 (software rel. 7.0) as a guest anchor with a 5508 (software release 7.2) as the foreign controller supporting series 3600 APs.  I ask because the APs do not need to join the guest anchor.

Cisco Wireless :: 5500 / Controller Versus Cloud-based (Controller)

Mar 31, 2013

We are trying to navigate the waters in choosing between a in-house, controller-based, wireless network solution or a cloud-based solution. We have been presented with the usual suspects in cloud-based (Aerohive, Meracki, etc) and with Cisco (5500) and Aruba on the other side. We are a multi-campus organization with approx. 200 APs.Any hard reasons why go with a controller-based vs. cloud-based solution? If we must keep the conversation limited to Cisco, why go Meracki over Cisco's WLC solutions or vise versa?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 2125 Wireless Controller Without Anchor Controller Just Using Existing Hardware

Dec 6, 2012

I am looking to configure a wired and wireless guest network. I have industrial barcode scanners that connect to one SSID and then there is the business network on the office SSID (no vlan seperation for these devices just different SSIDs). There is not really a need to seperate the business network from the scanners in any case. However, there are needs for a guest network and this needs to be seperated. At the bare minumum I would like to have the wireless guest network. Here is what I have: 2125 Wireless LAN controller managing 18 LAPs (1 indoor and 17 outdoors)Cisco Cat 2950 switches (2 x 24 port and soon to be replaced with 2 x 48 port 2960's with 802.1x capability) Sonicwall TZ210 firewallOne existing wired and trunked vlan for PLC infrastructure. One ESXi hosting Windows server guests (soon to be 2 with vMotion) The reason for the wired guest access network is tp prevent anyone from plugging into the wall jack in the office with thier home laptops or anyone else from being on the same subnet as our domain machines. Granted they would be unathenticaed but there would be no layer 2 seperation and that is what I think would be best.

How would I go about doing this on the wireless controller without an anchor controller just using my existing hardware? I would like to have the Guest SSID only availible in the front office. Is it possible to offer a guest network while still servicing the business network SSID on the same access point? Then might I be able to have the guest network be treated as it should at the controller? However this might present another issue altogether as the guest traffic will be over the same wire as the business SSID until it hits the controller for management.

Wireless Won't Stay Connected On Desktop

We just recently signed up with Time Warner Cable for internet access. The modem they gave us is also a wireless router. So we set up our wireless network like we should but for some reason my desktop computer won't stay connected to the new wireless network. We have a laptop downstairs that doesn't have any problem staying connected. I can connect to the neighbors wireless network and I have no problems staying connected. I can't figure out why my desktop won't stay connected to our network

Unfortunately the AP is the only PoE device I have at my disposal. The device will power on, the link will come up on the switch but after ~5 seconds the power light then the PoE light on the WAP4410N turns off and the device reboots and continues this cycle. The WAP4410N operates normally when plugged in with the included power adapter, but I need to use this as a PoE device.

Cisco Wireless :: WAP4410N Not Stay Connected To Blackberries

Jul 10, 2010

There is a discussion of this going back many months in the previous forum.  My initial post there has had over 600 views and I see that an IT administrator with 10 BB has the exact same problem.  I have replaced my BB 4 times and all of them behaved the same way with this CISCO WAP4410N:

THE PROBLEM:  The 4410 drops the WiFi connection to a Bold 9700 BB (using WAP2).  I got an old Motorola about 6 years old out and found it works fine with the BB as does most of the public hot spots. This is an issue with the 4410.  An IT Admin has found (an posted in the eariler forum) that for some reason the key change is not accomplished when issued by the 4410 but it works for others. The Admin discovered that if he set the timout on the key change to maximum he only has to restart the 4410s every 10 days.

So I have the 4410 for my 5 computers with which it works fine and beside it the old Motorola for the BB.

When I called support about this I was told that "we don't support connections to Blackberry."  I hate to have to sell this thing on Ebay and buy another brand becuase of this.  Seems that Cisco would fix it.

Cisco Wireless :: 5508 - Client Unable To Stay Connected

Jun 26, 2012

Background: Wireless credit card machines can't stay connected to the 5508 controller 7.0.116 / 1142 ap wireless system. MAC address of one of the wireless hosts is 00:12:0e:ec:ce:97. AP servicing them is d4:a0:2a:99:34:60. Hosts are able to connect to the network after a reboot and stay connected for random periods of time but then don't come back unless you manually reload them. I have 3 in total in the same room services by the same ap.

I have the output of debug client 00:12:0e:ec:ce:97. Output showed 802.1x 'timeoutEvt' Timer expired for station 00:12:0e:ec:ce:97 so I increased the value to 4000ms on the controller but am still having the issue.

Note that the output below is the state the client stays in after receiving the timeout (802.1x 'timeoutEvt') showing subsequent attampts. The only way to get them back on is a reload of the credit card machine.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Can't Stay Disconnected With E3200

Jul 27, 2012

New E3200 router (a few weeks old).

Using the manual settings under Status/Router and clicking the Disconnect button (by Login Status), the page reloads, and say I am disconnected.

Without any input from me, about 30 seconds later the page reloads and say I am connected.

Clicking disconnect, closing the tab and testing my connection proves that I'm not actually being disconnected at all. I cannot force this router to manually disconnect.

Is this a firmware bug or is there another setting else where that prevents me from manually shutting down my connection?

Cisco Wireless :: 5508 Getting Nest Thermostats To Stay Connected On Network

Dec 12, 2012

any luck getting Nest thermostats to stay connected on a cisco wireless network.  We are running 5508s (ver 7.2.110.0) and the thermostats are connecting to a 3502.  The WLAN is a locally switched FlexConnect SSID.

According to nest there are two potential issues - NAT timeout and wireless networks that do not play nicely with devices that sleep for long periods of time.  I've configured static NAT translations for the Nests, so that shouldn't be an issue.  Nest says "Nest uses Wi-Fi 'Power Save Mode' to allow it to sleep and charge its  battery while remaining connected to the internet. Not all Wi-Fi  routers support this feature or implement it correctly.  When they don't, Nest will have difficulty sleeping and will restart  in an attempt to reset its network connection. This may happen  repeatedly if your Wi-Fi router is incompatible with the 'Power Save  Mode' feature."  I've tried increasing the DTIM timers to no avail.

Toshiba Satellite Laptop Won't Stay Connected To Home Wireless?

Aug 1, 2011

I'm having trouble getting my laptop to stay connected to my wireless internet. This problem only occurs with my laptop (other laptops in the house are able to connect no problem) and with this particular wireless box (my laptop has no problems connecting and staying connected to other wireless networks, wi-fi, etc.).

I am able to connect to the wireless but it lasts only for a few minutes before connection is lost, so I basically have to connect to the internet through a ether cable (?) plugged into the wireless box.

I can't work out where the problem could be as the wireless works for other computers, and my computer works with other wireless networks!

I don't know if it matters but I am using a Toshiba satellite running on Windows 7.
