Cisco :: Newly Joined Computer To Request IP Address From MAC?

Mar 13, 2012

RARP (Reverse Address Resolution Protocol) is a protocol by which a physical machine in a local area network can request to learn its IP address from a gateway server's Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) table or cache. A network administrator creates a table in a local area network's gateway router that maps the physical machine (or Media Access Control - MAC address) addresses to corresponding Internet Protocol addresses. When a new machine is set up, its RARP client program requests from the RARP server on the router to be sent its IP address. Assuming that an entry has been set up in the router table, the RARP server will return the IP address to the machine which can store it for future use.Among the passage of words i read, there was this sentence i were not sure, "A network administrator creates a table in a local area network's gateway router that maps the physical machine (or Media Access Control - MAC address) addresses to corresponding Internet Protocol addresses." Does it means each time a host computer joins in the ethernet LAN, the network administrator would manually add in it's MAC address in the router table, so it would allow the newly joined computer to request IP address from it's MAC address?

Cisco Wireless :: Bridge Joined By WAP 4410n For Access Point

Oct 21, 2012

I wonder if I can join via the WAP 4410n Bridge and also work as Access-point at a time. The idea is that you can connect to a router that provides Internet service that makes access-point bridge and connect to another WAP 4410n which would be another single access point for wireless bridge.

Servers :: Domain Name Only Shows Router Interface?

Jul 9, 2011

How to host my website from home? So I am half way through this process. I have created a domain name [URL] I have used zoneedit's free DNS server as I cant be bothered setting one up for what I want to do. Now I have my external ip "eg.eg.eg.eg" which i entered into the configuration on zoneedit. I then typed www.mydomainname.net.au into google chrome and I am prompted for my Thompson gateway (my modem/Router) username and password. This I enter and i find my self being able to configure the settings for my router over the internet from my domain name....this makes me go huh? I also tryed using the free dyndns.org with exactly the same results. I have no idea what I am supposed to do next anyway. Btw the website I am trying to host is a Joomla 1.6.3 so I would need to run a WAMP Server as well, but if I have troubles with that I can ask the Joomla Forums. So my main question is what on earth do I do now. Perhaps I need to do something with the ports or settings in my router, and where do I even put the files for the wesite and I do not mean to insult anyone I just don't want to be plainly stating my external ip on the web (i know it is visible on any website i go to) whilst it is linked to my router settings.

Redirecting a Domain to a IP:Port I host game servers for friends and strangers alike, but i'd like to make it easier for them all and give them dedicated IPs. Right now I include domain redirecting, but to connect to their server, they have to put in "example.com:xxxxx", x meaning their servers dedicated port. Is there any way that I can redirect a domain directly to "IP:Port"?

Servers :: Windows 2008 Domain Splintered Into 2 Networks

Aug 2, 2012

I have a network domain with 2 domain controllers running windows server 2008. At some point the DNS name for one of the servers got messed up and they stopped talking to each other even though they are on fixed IPs. The DNS problem has been fixed, but they haven't started communicating again. While the DNS was messed up the domain controllers kept running a different copy of the network. The DFS stopped replicating, the users lists fragmented and the network separated into two "shadow domains" with the same name. DC1 says it is healthy, but it claims DC2 is offline. DC2 claims it is healthy but DC1 is offline. I don't even know where to begin repairing this rift.

All I want to do is to share a couple of Folders, My Documents and Downloads, between two PC's on a Workgroup network.Networking is not my strongest point but up until now I have managed quite successfully. The setup is :-

1st PC is Mike-Laptoppc is on a Wireless connection to an ADSL+2 router/modem.

2nd PC is a Desktop Alexs-PC connected via cable to the same router/modem

I can share all the shared folders from the Desktop to the Laptop, but I can only share Media streaming on the Desktop from the Laptop, so I know there is a connection between the two computers. I have now turned off Media streaming to concentrate on just folder sharing.Whenever I try to access the Laptop from the Desktop I get an " Access Denied you do not have permission contact your administrator " box on the desktop.
